You need to buy this book!
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, January 30 2016
I just got my copy of this last night and lost a few hours as I was just mesmerized by the content. Don't let its title fool you, there is a lot of just Star Wars Concepts in general, not just The Force Awakens, that is shared in this book. The customizing potential here folks is just off the charts!

"Step inside the Lucasfilm art departments for the creation of fantastical worlds, unforgettable characters, and unimaginable creatures. The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens will take you there, from the earliest gathering of artists and production designers at Lucasfilm headquarters in San Francisco to the fever pitch of production at Pinewood Studios to the conclusion of post-production at Industrial Light & Magic—all with unprecedented access. Exclusive interviews with the entire creative team impart fascinating insights in bringing director J. J. Abrams’s vision to life; unused “blue sky” concept art offers glimpses into roads not traveled.

Bursting with hundreds of stunning works of art, including production paintings, concept sketches, storyboards, blueprints, and matte paintings, this visual feast will delight Star Wars fans and cineastes for decades to come. The Art of Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the definitive expression of how the latest chapter in the Star Wars saga was dreamed into being."

The great thing is that this is now in stock and you won't have to wait a few weeks like I did. It is also much cheaper at amazon right now and you can get it in two days with Amazon Prime (I definitely don't regret the decision to go Prime). Trust me you will thank me for forcing you to buy this!

Art deWhill is back with some great new artwork!
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, January 30 2016
"Hello my friends, it has been a long time since my last posting (but always connected to the Yards via Facebook), and a long time since my last fan art. Much has happend in my art and focus has changed. I was looking for something new and remembered some sort of graphic art style, like a expressive woodcut print or so which I had developed in the past. No one loved it except me those days but anyway I had to follow my ideas and so after a second step and try in 2015 and of course powered by the new movie I now made step no. 3 - and started fan art again.

But to make a long story short: here is my brandnew poster artwork of REY, please feel free to download the 4183*5798 px file at

http://orig05.deviantart.net/9fd2/f/2016/028/b/e/rey_by_art_dewhill-d9p5u5f.jpg"

First off is great to see Art back and talk about one great piece of artwork on Rey! Just beautiful!

Ron Hembling adds the troopers to his Battlefront Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, January 30 2016
"Hi All,

I have got all the plants on and just need to do a little weathering to the ground work and tehn paint and weather the figures and paint the sides of the dio.

The plants all part the ferns are from JoeFix Studios and they are plastic and the ferns I picked up from the local craft shop, I just gave them a light wash using Vallejo's Gunship green and the moss is Light Green Grass Fibers which are from JoeFix Studios.

Ron"

Folks, talk about hitting the ball out of the park. I find I am getting up early in the mornings just to see if there is a new update. So far, there always has been! Talk about gorgeous.

JDeck is back with dio progress update 4...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, January 30 2016
"Im about done with the groundwork. I added a mixture of sand and dry plaster to the base and added water a little at a time. The natural color of the sand was all I needed. Then I added woodland scenics watercolors and a few junk parts. I also added a few little bushes, made of woodland scenics green fibers. And added some woodland scenics fine ballast. The pics aren't that great plus its still wet. I think its looking pretty good, I usually don't do desert dios, but I've been wanting to make one for a long while. I'm more or less recreating the concept art, not movie accurate. Still much to do."

I am really liking the looks of this. It is spot on with the concept art book I got for The Force Awakens!

Ron Hembling adds some dirt!
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, January 29 2016
"Hi All,

The base layer of dirt dried perfectly and I used dirt and mulch for the final layer, I used a branch from the bush area and just snapped it and placed it on the base using PVA/Woodglue.

The small leafs around the pod are plastic plants which I cut up and then gave them a wash of Vallejo's Gunship Green, I then placed them around the pod to simulate the plants that survived the impact got covered by dirt.

I am in the process of giving the other plants a wash and will show pics of them on the dio soon.

Ron"

Folks, this is really looking awesome. I mean super awesome!

It it sure looking like what I remember from The Force Awakens!

Looking to secure a new hyperspace route to Lothal, the rebels head to the Mandalorian-controlled Concord Dawn to negotiate safe passage for their fleet. The warrior Protectors of the system prove to be less than welcoming, however, and it’s up to Kanan and Sabine to turn this group into friends…or enemies."

I watched it this morning and thought it was great. I always love a little more background on Mandalorians. And to see a first version Clone Wars Cross-Over is A OK in my book.

Jon K shares his second custom...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, January 28 2016
"Here's another KOTOR build I've finally finished. I wanted to try my hand at T3-M4 because I haven't seen many of them.

Mostly made of a hacked up R4-P17 and some scratchbuilding from an old model kit, with a little bit of a pit droid and a couple missiles from the new R2 figure. Cut down the dome and filled in the holes with green stuff, and used the pit droid ball joint for the head articulation. Most of what I did is pretty self-explanatory from the photos, I think. Finished product here."

JDeck shows more progress with the house that Rey built...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, January 28 2016
"I finally started on the actual diorama today. I used blue foam then I cut holes for the buried parts. Then set the parts in plaster. Then I created high spots using spackel. All I need is to create some junk props and give it a top layer of sand. I think the thinned down Spackle will work the best, for the sand surface. Last picture is the same concept drawing that's in the TFA concept book. I'm basically using that as a reference, but I'll have to change a few things."

It sure seems like its coming together nicely to me. I will sure be glad when amazon ships me my Concept Art Book!

Good ole Tunghori still delivering great prices...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, January 27 2016
I was reminded by Mandalore25 this past week that Asian Power Seller Tunghori, the guy who started it all with the Asian eBay Power Sellers, was still delivering great prices,

"Found the parts at a great bargain, so I just had to make him. Wish I'd bought another, but this Clone Wars Boss isn't too pricey: http://www.ebay.com/itm/STAR-WARS-the-clone-wars-Republic-Commando-BOSS-cw11-/371498109034?hash=item567f03486a:g:x-YAAOSwgyxWXIyG
if anyone is looking to make one."

Looks like 93 of them have sold so far. Think it would be a good idea to re-release this guy Hasbro? Duh uh! Matter of fact, Tunghori has a ton of great Vintage, TFA, and Black Series items up for grabs at great prices. Click here to go see over 5 pages worth of great priced items. It makes me miss the vintage line so much!

JDeck showing progress on his Rey's House Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, January 27 2016
"I didn't do much today, just weathered some props and the hull. I just use oil based washes. For the speckled rust look I just shaved some rust colored chalk over the model while the wash was still wet. After everything dried I sealed it with flat clear spray. For the movie the AT-AT. was painted metallic grey so it'll show up against the background, but I did not want to do that. The quad jumper I weathered too, I figure if she does have one it would be in pretty rough shape, made of cobbled together parts. Of course the micro machine speeder needed to be repainted and weathered. Its a slightly larger scale, 1/86. No BFD."

All the fine detail work really is gonna pay off in the end!

EA announces Battlefront Expansion!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, January 27 2016
"In the two months since we launched Star Wars™ Battlefront™, millions of you have been enjoying the authentic, immersive, and visually stunning Star Wars experience our team at DICE set out to deliver with Star Wars Battlefront.

As we said back in November, the release of Star Wars Battlefront was just the beginning. Our team has been listening to your feedback and building a calendar of new content and tuning changes we will be making to the game throughout 2016. All fans will get free* content that includes new maps for both multiplayer and Missions modes, the introduction of Private Matches, new Hero outfits, and more. Fans looking to get even more out of their Star Wars Battlefront experience can look forward to the Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass*, which will introduce a wealth of fresh content set across exciting new locations including Bespin, the Death Star, and more.

We began our post-launch journey together last month with the Battle of Jakku DLC, adding two new maps and the new mode Turning Point. Tomorrow, we are adding more free content to the game for all Star Wars Battlefront players, including:

The Tatooine Survival map will now support the Blast, Droid Run, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs Villains multiplayer modes, and is called Raider Camp.

New Hoth-themed outfits for Luke Skywalker and Han Solo, both of which will be available to all fans when they play as these two iconic characters on Hoth – these were unlocked by our players for completing our Heroes’ Holiday community mission last month.

We are giving players the ability to create Private Matches, which makes playing with friends even easier.
The introduction of Daily Challenges and Community Events. These are designed to rally the Community around certain goals and objectives, giving players the chance to earn credits and unlocks even faster. We'll have more news regarding Community Events and Daily Challenges in the days ahead.

And of course, we are also including some overall balancing tweaks to both weapons and multiplayer modes.
In February, we will continue to add more free content for all players, including a new Survival mission on Hoth, and a brand-new Hoth multiplayer map that will support our larger game modes including Walker Assault, Supremacy, Fighter Squadron and Turning Point. Speaking of Turning Point, we are also excited to make this popular mode available on all maps that currently support Walker Assault and Supremacy in the February update.

In March, we will be adding another exciting new multiplayer map on Endor that will support Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point, and an additional Tatooine Survival map.

In addition to the free content we will be delivering through March, we will continue to listen to our community throughout the year and provide updates designed to make Star Wars Battlefront even more fun for everyone."

Wow, talk about awesome. That is just the start folks, click here for the full article!

MAXX Replicas makes me go wow!

"After 9 months of work and drilling over 1600 holes for the fiber optic illumination, here's finally the result. The length of the model is about 73 cm / 29 inch. It is an Anigrand Resin kit. The base was inspired by the Falcon chase in the asteroid field from EP V. Please note, that the Falcon model is only 0.5 inches small."

1,600 holes! Folks, I can begin to describe how awesome and inspiring this work is. I am just floored!

This Acme Artwork I think is really cool...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, January 25 2016
I have really been jonesing the Star Wars Artwork lately. Here is another batch of great pieces of art you can pick up on EE by Acme Archives:

Star Wars AT-ST Walker I Got an Idea Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Detach Cable AT-AT Walker Battle of Hoth Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Planet Hoth I Found Them Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars I Have You Now Darth Vader TIE Fighter Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Millennium Falcon Kessel Run Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Jawa Sandcrawler A Real Bargain Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Cloud City Landing Permit Paper Giclee Print

"A minimalist design, these great giclees feature just the words and a vehicle and are a limited edition of 125 pieces hand-numbered and signed by artist Jason Christman. All of these great giclees include a certificate of authenticity and are a must-have for Star Wars fans!

Giclee (pronounced "zhee-clay") is an invented name for the process of making fine-art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word was coined to distinguish commonly known industrial "Iris proofs" from the fine-art prints artists were producing on the same printers. The name has since come to mean any high-quality, ink-jet print, and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such. In the past few years, the word (as a fine-art term) has come to be associated with prints using fade-resistant "archival" inks and the inkjet printers that use them. A wide variety of substrates are available, including various textures and finishes such as matte photo paper, watercolor paper, cotton canvas, or artist textured vinyl."

I think they would look fantastic on a wall. Some are coming in February, some are in-stock, and some are temporarily out of stock but coming back. It would be cool to have them all!

Ron Hembling continues work on his latest project...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, January 25 2016
"Hi All,

Started on one of two of the figures for the drop pod diorama and first up is the scoutrooper. I have started building him straight out of the box and I started covering the joints with cloth during the build instead of after.

I have decided to do articulation with this dio as I have had people ask me would I do one eventually with articulation so no place like the present as they say.

Ron"

That cloth he is using looks fantastic! This feels like fashion make-over day on the Yards.

JDeck creates Rey's Quad Jumper!
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, January 25 2016
"I built Rey's Quad Jumper, that's in the concept picture. I really don't remember seeing it in the movie, but it makes sense she has one, to learn to be a pilot. Its made of X-wing, droid, aircraft parts and styrene tubes. I just detailed the front half since you won't see the rear. I also painted the AT-AT hull. And added blast holes. It still needs major weathering. I need to start the terrain next. I still have a long way to go, but the hull is done."

This dio is gonna be over the top. That Quad Jumper looks great, just like in the DK Book I just bought!

Stan gives the new princess a makeover!

"While waiting on parts; did exchange of heads on the new Ceremony Leia, added a bracelet! The other head was too small! Also added make up!"

Yep, she looks better to me. I thought her head might be a tad small, but thought that was me being too critical. Seems like I was right!

Sjefke shows you a great material for a dress on your Custom AFs!
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, January 25 2016
"I've been using nitrile for a while now. Cloth is nice but there's just no way to get it to look natural at 1/18th scale. Nitrile seems to have the a much better thickness and flow. Here's another teaser from one of the figures I sent CC...

That was made from the pinky of a glove I got at my dentist's office. UNUSED! :-X. Since it's a finger, it was just the right size for a dress, seamless."

What a great look it has!

"Hi All,

The dio is completed and I will get my usual outdoor pics in the next day or two.

The X-wing as with all Bandai SW kits was a great build and when I started painting the cockpit I decided that I wouldn't use any decals on it but I painted a few little grey panels. Once the overall washes were done and the weathering was done I was very happy that I didn't use any decals on it.

Ron"

What can I say, Ron is on fire! I am loving all of his latest work. Loving it!

"First custom, KOTOR II Darth Sion made of 3 Anakins.

Recipe:
Torso, left arm & legs: Tartakovsky Clone Wars Anakin
Right arm: ROTS "slashing action" Anakin
Head: Battle Damage ROTS Anakin.

Boil & popped everything apart and cut the lower right arm out of the ball joint hoop. Drilled out the new arm to the size of a spare yoda cane I had laying around, and built a new bar to thread through the hoop.

Glued the new bar in place from the outside, scored up the body with dental tools, painted the large sections and reassembled. Rolled out thin sheets of green stuff and cut them into the loin cloth sections. Cut a chunk out of the belt in the back to allow room for the loin cloth sections to be glued underneath.

Did some shaky detail painting (I didn't like the way actually painting the cracks looked, so I did some black and red drybrushing to catch on the scoring and went for a little more of an impressionistic look than literal), and here we are!

Not 100% pleased with my small-scale painting, but hopefully that will eventually improve. Thoughts?"

Well first off congratulations on joining the much larger world of customizing. Two, I think your Darth Sion looks great. The attention to the smallest detail is fantastic.

Courtesy of Entertainment Earth, I was glancing through their print catalog yesterday when these caught my eye:

Star Wars Join the Fight Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Unify with the Last Jedi Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Comply Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Vader Speed Shop Paper Giclee Print

Star Wars Victory Is Imminent Paper Giclee Print

"From artist Mike Kungl comes these stunning pieces of Star Wars art, these awesome art prints are a limited edition of 125 to 200 hand-numbered pieces, measures 25-inches tall x 12-inches wide and come complete with certificate of authenticity.

I think they are fantastic! I love the artwork.

Ron Hembling starts another Star Wars Project?
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, January 23 2016
I guess one project going on now just wasn't enough!

"Hi All,

I was playing SW Battlefront and there is a game called Dropzone which basically drops a pod and your team have to secure it and defend it. While I was playing on the Endor level I thought to myself how cool it would be to make a dio so besides the x-wing dio I decided I would make two dios at once so here is the start of it.

For a lot of you, you might remember the Pod was built a while back using plumbers pipes, 1/72, 1/35 and plasti card and other greeblies. The base is high density foam and the cut corner section will be a small ridge.

Ron"

Folks hands down Ron unhinges my jaw on many occasions. Truly another epic creation. His diorama shelves I would pay admission to view. Truly amazing!

"Hi All,

Finally have how I want the dio the to look. I have used 1/72 and 1/35 parts for the fuel lines that will be added once painted.

The power unit and flood light and barricade are made using 1/72, 1/35 and plastic card the small cargo vehicle was made using plasti card and the steering sticks andcrates are 1/72.

Ron"

It really is looking great. I like he has captured the busy look of what I always envision of a Rebel Hangarbay.

JDeck gets started on a new project...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, January 23 2016
"I started Rey's home by assembling the MPC kit turret and body. I cut a large portion out of the bottom to make the hollowed out hull. I added quite a few Photoetched brass details on the underbelly. I added parts on the inside of the hull to add dimension. You won't see most of it but I'm adding blast/rust holes, so the light will bounce around, it'll make it look cool. On the turret I cut out the view port so it'll look empty. All this is necessary to achieve the decrepit look, otherwise it'll just be a MPC kit lying on its side. I'll probably add more details, but you get the idea."

It sure is gonna be great. I had hoped someone would take on this dio as soon as I saw Rey living here in the film!

Whats your latest Star Wars Score?

Gold Leader One checks back in with his latest Star Wars additions to his collection:

"Stopped in Target today and got the Titanium First Order TIE Fighter. Still no sign of the Rebel Snowspeeder, A-wing, B-wing, TIEx1. Starting to get a bit frustrating.

Also picked up the Disney Store Titanium Millennium Falcon, Imperial Star Destroyer and Resistance X-wing. A fellow member at Rebelscum posted the Falcon and ISD were back on the Disney Store website. I went right on and bought them, as the Falcon and ISD go for quite a bit on eBay. I was able to get them at retail price."

The other figures are air crew and pilots from from bits box and the scaffolding was built using plasti card.

JDeck reviews a Marvel SW Comic...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, January 21 2016
"I picked out this Marvel Darth Vader comic book vol.1 on Amazon. I never got into the Expanded Universe, but I figured I'd pick this one up to see how the new stuff is. I believe this volume is a compilation of 6 comics in order. The story takes place between episodes IV&V A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. In my opinion the story is pretty cool. It explains Vader's motivation in Empire Strikes Back, why he was so determined to find Skywalker and the Falcon. It Has Jabba The Hutt, Emperor, Boba Fett and more. It also shows some of Vader's awesome powers you don't see in the movies. It gets a little weird at times, but that's why I didn't like EU to start with. For 12 bucks it was a good read. It was entertaining and gave me something to think about. I'd like to get the Lando, Leia and Star Wars comics soon."

His review was enough to push me over the edge. Click here to go find it on Amazon and get a copy yourself! Great review JDeck!

"Hey Yarders

Clone Crazy has posted another chapter of his KOTOR opera chapter seven, The Mandolorian Wars.
http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=9990.0

He's revealed a new character named Queen Nysa, which I've been keeping under wraps for months until he posted her in the PN. Turnaround is fair play. I think I kept him waiting for about two years for his commissions.

She was inspired by a sketch on Deviant Art, referred to as Visas Marr and by Raven of the Teen Titans.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/323485185712855025/
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/323485185712854969/

The base figure is GI Joe Rise of Cobra, Paris Pursuit Baroness. I've made a few modifications and used one of those Depa Billaba head casts. The cloak and hood are made of purple nitrile gloves. She's one of four commissions I made for CC. I'll reveal the others, after he does."

She looks fantastic. I am kind of reminded of an Assassins Creed meets Star Wars custom cross-over.

Starchaser is back with a two-pack...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, January 20 2016
"A couple of customs:

Darth Malignus, a Sith whose focus is on Sith lore and exploring the mystical side of the Force.

Justice Hunter - a Jedi knight who has taken this name as a pseudonym. After his master and family were killed by dark siders, he began a campaign to seek and "deal with" dark Force users. He walks very close to the dark-side but keeps focused on justice rather than vengeance. Justice functions virtually independent of the Jedi order, though he never formally left it. While his activities are not officially condoned, some members of the order support and aid Justice in his mission "off the books."

Justice Hunter vs. Darth Malignus"

Mandalore 25 is back with a Republic Commando!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, January 20 2016
"Here's my Republic Commando Gregor, form the Clone Wars episode "Missing in Action." I love commandos, personally I'm not one for first person shooters, but "Republic Commando" is an amazing game. Though now that The Clone Wars is still canon throws a monkey wrench in things for the commandos show up in clone wars making them cannon, but not their stories, it's just weird. He's made from the clone wars Commando Boss, but he comes with some odd cable pack, does anyone like those? Even as a kid I didn't like them, or most missile firing accessories, would rather it be more character accurate, so I took one from a realistic styled commando, seems to work fine."

I did like that game too, might have to find it again. I rank it as one of the best first person shooters of all time. I am playing Destiny right now (well I guess thats what you would call what I am doing) and love it, but it still pales in comparison to RC. I really enjoy the realistic style when it comes to custom figures too.

There are many fans of the show that wished that this character was made in The Clone Wars style, but it just never happened. There is a good chance if it were created, this would have been what it looked like."

I do agree this is a great rendition of Palps, TCW Style. I think it is awesome customizers like Brian keep the show alive for us all through their great customs.

I must point out I thought it was cool some fans immediately pointed out the scientific faults that pervade this.

The Spectre gets em all together...

"Here is a group pic of all of the NuClassic Daleks I have completed so far:

I still have 2 more that need final touch ups and then this project will be done until I can score some more 3.75" modern Daleks to do the rest of the Classic Series liveries on Modern Series bodies."

That looks awesome! He has quite the Dalek Collection doesn't he!

JDeck is one step closer...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, January 18 2016
"I added the sand last night, its still drying. I ended up mixing the grout with spackel. The spackel I use is from dollar tree so its a fraction of the price. It doesn't have the usual fluffy texture, it has the consistency of yogurt. It works great as a base for snow, mud or sand. It'll probably take another day to completely dry. I'll call it finished, just need to seal it with a clearcoat. Its a little discolored and shiny now due to being wet, but you get the idea."

I sure think this project turned out great!

Thank the maker!

Ron Hembling is busting his Bunker Project all over!
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 17 2016
"The bunker is complete all I need to now is the sandtroopers, the trooper in the pics is to show you the scale.

The stone was completed by giving it a wash of Vallejo's Light Brown and then once it dried I watered down Vallejo's Saddle Brown. Once the Saddle brown was dry I then used a 50/50 mix of Vallejo's White and Dark Sand to very lightly washed it over all the stone.

The sand is a mix of 45% plaster, 45% sand, 10% PVA glue and then add water till the mix is like a pancake mix just with sand lol. This was then added to the areas of the base that I wanted it to go and once dry used a wash of Vallejo's Beige Brown and then a 50/50 mix of Vallejo's Dark Sand and White and watered it down and washed the sand with it. Once all the washes dried I then weathered the stone and bunker using pastel chalks

The small cable box near the door was made using plasti card and the cables are from and old battery charger I had in the parts box."

Talk about a ten out of ten!

"Wave 4 of The Black Series is coming. The Snowtrooper is a great figure, but the neck is painted white. I repainted the necks of all mine black, then applied a layer of dullcote to seal it in."

It sure does make em look better thats for sure. Of course I would just love to see that wave show up in my stores!

Starchaser adds to his custom figures thread...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 17 2016
"I got an Major Panno figure from a "supplier" earlier this week to build a figure inspired by Bigpadawan - an Advozse rebel. But I was also familiar with a Dresselian Jedi (a contemporary of Obi-Wan's) from "Legends" named Reeft. With Panno, I was able to accomplish both."

I like the look of both of his new customs.

JDeck continues his Falcon Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 17 2016
"I started on the Jakku Junkyard dio base last night. I used bluefoam with WS concrete watercolor basecoat, I really like that stuff, it looks like stone/concrete. I made a power generator out of 1/35 and 1/72 tires. I'm still working on that, so it looks less like glued together tires. I also made a contraption that is supposed to resemble a moisture vaporator, but its not necessarily a moisture vaporator. I began experimenting with the tarps, using tissue paper soaked in glue/water. Once its dry it's easily mailable. Soon I'll add the sand, and that should do it. Meybe tomorrow it'll be done."

I love the tissue paper tarps idea! It really is great to see how creative the customizers here are sometimes. Just good stuff folks.

Glorbes makes progress on the Twilight!

Ajunta Pall is back with more great custom figures...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 17 2016
"Here's a few more I've been holding on to

1) obi wan kenobi in clone wars armor
2) not really a custom but I've upgraded my Tvc Luke with a cloak like he wore in ROTJ
3)CloneWars Mace Windu
4)upgraded my Hoth Han with an alternate head unhooded."

They all look great to me folks. The Obi in Armor looks flawless!

Sjefke is tweaking!
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 17 2016
"Hey Yarders!

I need to stop tweaking Groot's head. The magnifiers have gotten me pretty far, but it got to the point that I was sculpting using my iPad on max magnification. The white Aves was making me crazy, so I painted on eyes and gave him a thin wash to see the details.

Work on the body isn't quite as slow. I'm using pics of the 1/6 scale Groot as a guide for the wood patterns on his body.

I've finally manned up and splurged on some good mold making stuff. Molding heads tomorrow."

It is always great to see an update from Sjefke. Its even better to hear he is casting some of those awesome Groot heads. It is looking great!

The Spectre is back with new Daleks!
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 17 2016
"More Nuclassic Daleks!

These Blue/Silver and Red/Black Daleks are inspired by the non-canon Peter Cushing "Dr. Who" movies."

I so need to take a bit of time if the snow flies and get into some Dr. Who. I am a relative noob when it comes to this awesome Sci-Fi Series.

I-am-Boba-Fett shows us some security...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 17 2016
"Here is a custom Star Wars RESISTANCE SECURITY figure put together by me. A member of the Shozer alien species that is seen very briefly in Star Wars The Force Awakens. Lots of articulation on this figure.

This custom figure is FOR SALE here."

Works for me. Once again this is a background character I feel is sorely needed to balance out the hero and villain type figures we see on the pegs.

Talk about one cool Exclusive Set from Amazon!
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 17 2016
Now I know I have been way critical (and then some) of the 5 POA The Force Awakens Figures. Well, after Darth Daddy's latest custom posting of how he spruced up his Wal-Mart Stormies with these accessories I ordered this set myself.

Folks, it is a packaging dream! So beautiful seeing each figure packaged up in a box that opens up to display each trooper. I don't know who designed it, but its worth a purchase for the packaging and the great accessories you get with these figure!

I am also happy to report that this Amazon Exclusive Star Wars The Force Awakens 3.75-Inch Figure Troop Builder 7-Pack is now back in stock and ready to ship with Amazon Prime!

Ron Hembling gives us a Bunker Update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, January 15 2016
"A little more work on the bunker last night.

The bunker was given a wash of Vallejo's Medium Grey and then I lightly dry brushed it with Vallejo's Sky Grey and then I gave it a wash of Vallejo's Black.

The stone was given a going over of watered down Vallejo's Beige Brown and then a mix of 60%Beige and 40% white.

Next up is colouring the stone and then adding a little more weathering to bunker."

This is really looking great.

JDeck updates us on his Falcon Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, January 15 2016
"I took a few more pics of the weathered Falcon. Now I can start the diorama. I was thinking since its such a small scale I may experiment using tile grout. Its already the right color, no need to paint. It has a superfine texture. I dunno, we'll see. If all else fails I'll use the Spackle.

I did a test run on the tile grout diorama sand. I think it'll work pretty well. I bought the mosaic grout on amazon. Its Ivory white, but its a little yellowish, so I added thinned white acrylic paint. It spreads nicely, and drying time is slow, and you can increase dry time by adding water. It dries a little more crumbly than I expected, but its cool. I can add a little glue to the mixture, to add strength."

It is pretty cool to follow his process.

Ron Hembling is back with a Bunker Update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, January 14 2016
"Did a little work yesterday on the bunker by covering the foam with a mix of plaster of paris and fine sand and I also mixed in a small amount of Vallejo beige brown to help make the painting easier.

The exterior and interior of the bunker was painted with Vallejo's German Grey and then I painted it again with Vallejo's German Grey and a small amount of Vallejo's White."

I always appreciate seeing Ron share every intricate detail and step by step instructions with images. He really doesn't give us any excuse to not try some of these techniques and projects ourselves!

1) Cho'na Bene

I am loving that Cho'na Bene! You gotta love the double arms. I sense an Avatar Base Figure for this I think.

Darth Daddy puts those amazon parts to good use...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, January 13 2016
"This is more for informational purposes than a custom post. Yesterday we received our "First Order Legion" set that was exclusive to Amazon.com. We were thrilled when we saw that the accessories from these figures are removable and could just as easily be used on the Wal-mart exclusive Black Series "First Order Stormtrooper" action figures. We immediately added the accessories and made super-articulated versions of our two favorite characters from the set."

It makes perfect sense to me. I kinda wonder if Hasbro will eventually re-release these accessories with the articulated Wal-Mart Versions on the basic card. Of course sometimes making sense gets you in trouble. Whatever the case, Darth Daddy doesn't have to wait to get great new figures from TFA!

FYI, that First Order Legion Set is now available so you might want to order as it has been going in and out of stock periodically.

JDeck shares some great news on Star Wars Models...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, January 13 2016
"Well I have exciting news for Star Wars modelers! Dragon Hobbies is now making Star Wars kits. Starting with the 1/35 AT-AT! YES, I said 1/35. That's huge. At least 2 feet tall 3 feet long, I'm guessing. They're also making 1/144 AT-AT, which is more practical. Also snowspeeder and Falcon in 1/144. Seems small, but the important thing is they're all the same scale No time table, but I expect it should be soon, within the year. I've built some Dragon WW2 kits, and they are completely awesome. Very detailed and accurate.

More great EU Work from Ajunta Pall...

What can I say? He makes me wish the EU were still alive and well. Disney, I don't want to argue with you, but the direction you took the EU I just don't like at the expense of all the years of the other established canon. I know I am not the only one, but Ajunta Pall sure shows the diverse and rich character base with just a small snapshot of his latest custom figures update.

The radar dish is from the new Micro Machines Falcon playset that transforms into Jakku. I got some pliers and easily pulled out the old dish. The new dish was a perfect fit. No modifications to Chewie, but I painted Han's hair gray and painted over the yellow stripes on his pants black."

Man, I miss Action Fleet! I do like his TFA Version of the Falcon. Such a great idea folks.

He had me at AT-ATs! That pic of those AT-ATs in action sure looked great to me.

A new season of REBELS airs with Princess Leai on Jan. 20th!
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, January 12 2016
"--Young Princess Leia to make her first appearance on the series--

Princess Leia, the unstoppable Rebel hero featured in both the original Star Wars trilogy as well as the recent Star Wars: The Force Awakens, makes her “Star Wars Rebels” debut when an all-new episode of "Star Wars Rebels" airs WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20 (9:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney XD.

Taking place three years before the events of A New Hope, Leia is introduced as a young leader on her way to becoming the strong, more resolute character portrayed in the original trilogy.

“One of the complex challenges of depicting Leia in 'Star Wars Rebels' is that we have to remind the audience that she is part of the Empire at this point,” says Executive Producer / Supervising Director Dave Filoni. “She doesn’t believe in the Empire, but she is acting the part, almost as a double agent. The Empire sees her as a privileged princess who runs mercy missions to wayward worlds, but in truth she is much stronger and more dangerous than they imagine.”

Appearing in her only episode of the season, the young Princess Leia is voiced by Julie Dolan, who also lent her vocal talents to the Rebel leader featured in Disney’s Star Tours attraction. Her character’s appearance in "Star Wars Rebels" portrays the beginnings of the seasoned general we meet again in The Force Awakens, her royal heritage all but eclipsed by her hard-won military stature.

“There really is no other character quite like her,” says Filoni. “And to quote The Force Awakens’ Lor San Tekka, ‘She’ll always be royalty to me.’”

Episode logline: An aide to Bail Organa (Princess Leia Organa) is sent to Lothal with ships for the rebel fleet, but an Imperial lockdown forces the rebels to create a new plan to steal the vehicles."

I have been so waiting for more OT Characters on REBELS. It will be great to see Leia. Is Luke, Han, and Chewbacca set to make an appearance too? Click here to find out more about the new episode!

JDeck shows us an update on his Falcon...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, January 11 2016
"I put the decals on the top half of the Falcon. Since I'm building a dio of it in the landed position, I may not put too many decals on the bottom. I brushed "micro set" on the surface of the model, since some of the decals must be set over details.

I added the blaster holes to the model. For some reason it wasn't a part of the kit, even in decal form. First I took a drill bit holding it with a pair of pliers. I heated it real hot with a bic lighter (don't use the el cheepo lighters, they act weird when they're on for a long time). Then while the bit is still hot I make my holes. Once the melted plastic has cooled, I take off all the excess melted debris."

That is a pretty cool tip for the blaster holes! Be safe when you use flame Yarders!

"I've got so many customs to update I don't know where to start. So here's some of my favorite EU characters.

1) Blind Jedi Master Zao
2) Master Vodo Siosk-Baas
3) Wolffe Sazen and Shado Vao
4) Tott Doneeta"

Wow, I am liking these a lot too. I really, really miss the EU, what we now know as Legendary Canon.

The Spectre is back with some Daleks!
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 10 2016
"First Customs of 2016!

Awhile back, I launched a project to paint several modern series Daleks in the liveries of the classic series Daleks.

These are the first 2 to be completed.

The white/gold "Imperial" Dalek is inspired by the 7th Doctor serial "Remembrance Of The Daleks" while the black/gold Dalek is inspired by the 3rd Doctor serial "Planet Of The Daleks" (although I omitted the gold neck rings and dome as that particular Dalek was a "Supreme"[leader] and the modern series Supremes have several structural differences from basic Daleks).

I have 8 more in various stages of completion (gold/black "Day Of The Daleks" and dark gray/black "Genesis Of The Daleks" models will most likely be the next finished) that should be done in the next week or so."

The paint work on these is incredible folks.

Peakob1 is back with a bang!

"Hey folks sorry I have been away for a little while and wanted to show a few things I have been working on over the year."

It was great to hear Chad's thoughts on The Force Awakens (be sure to watch the latest two podcasts folks) and I was so hoping he was gonna show up what he has gotten into with his favorite series The Clone Wars. Wow is one word I would use to describe it. His sculpting and paint work is just off the charts!

Stan finishes his Lak Sirvak...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 10 2016
"Well he is done, it took me awhile figure how in the world I was going to pull of the legs and soft good! Overall I pretty happy, he now can take a seat with his other cantina patrons!"

I was so hoping to see this one in the Cantina in the new movie. I do like Stan's version a good bit.

Darth Daddy is back with an update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 10 2016
"The Talz species was first introduced in A New Hope in the iconic Cantina bar scene with the character of bar patron Muftak. We loved that this species was brought back for an educational episode about the perils of advocating ethnocentrism. So much so, that we wanted to pay tribute to the episode by immortalizing one of the Talz characters in plastic."

-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, January 8 2016
Chad (Lucasclones) Hitchcock and I will were back again live on January 8th to finish our talk on The Force Awakens. We were joined by podcast veterans L.E. Spry (Luke Sprywalker) and Dayton Allen (Sithfire30) and Chad Peak (Peakob1) as we get this entire movie reviewed!

Don't forget to subscribe to our channel and watch the Part I if you haven't yet seen it.

I want to give a big ole shout out to my pal and co-host Chad for making it feel like old times. Daggone it was nice to have him back in the saddle. I also want to thank Spry, Peakob1, and Dayton for giving us two more hours of their time and really sharing some great thoughts from the film.

We are already gearing up for our next episode where we will discuss how we feel Hasbro has done with The Force Awakens Line and Star Wars Collecting in general. It will be a no holds barred match so don't expect us to go lightly with that one.

And, as always, thank you for watching us pontificate on our favorite subject.

JDeck finishes his Bandai Falcon Review...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, January 8 2016
"I'm going to pretty much wrap up this review, and continue posting my progress in my models/miscellaneous feed. Since the rest of the build will be custom paint, and diorama.

I built the Falcon with the optional open hatch/boarding door. It looks absolutely awesome! If you put a light inside or something it would look sweet. I put on some of my pre-assembled parts to show how it looks complete."

Camo Deafie is back with new designs!
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, January 8 2016
"Some more designs! :)

A new ARC type fighter is first up; The engines have been moved closer inboard, and the foils are a different shape than the previous iterations.

Next up; an ETA-2 Actis based airspeeder, it uses the central cockpit pod of the old Eta-2 Jedi Interceptor (ROTS era), and new machinery and equipment to make it the equal of the T47 airspeeder line with a roomier cockpit.

Finally, a Y-wing done up in a hybrid of McQuarrie styling and Naboo styling..."

JDeck builds a Bandai Falcon!
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, January 7 2016
"I've gotten 90% of the build done, in just a few hours. I gotta say this is an awesome kit! Tons of detail, accurate dimensions, everything you could want in a TFA Falcon. As I was building it, I couldn't put it down. Just a real fun kit.

I added the feet/landing gear, so I can make a Jakku junkyard diorama. It has these tiny little pipes just like the Y-wing, be VERY CAREFUL cutting them. I always use an exacto knife, but ideally you need a set of good sprue cutters. I know they're expensive, but it beats ruining an awesome kit. The instructions have a variation, evidently you can buy an LED lighting kit, separately. Everything is in Japanese, but if you use common sense its easy to figure out. It ain't rocket surgery."

Ron Hembling shows us his first new project for 2016!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, January 6 2016
"Hi All,

Well here are some WIP pics of my first dio for 2016, I have been playing a lot of SW Battlefront while on leave and have gotten some great idea's for diorama's and displays.

This dio will depict a couple of Sandtroopers coming out of a bunker to take down those rebel scum.

The dio so far has been made foam core and cardboard for the main bunker and the I have added plumbers gadgets on top for a vent/generator. The stone is marine foam which I just pulled apart and I will be covering it over with plaster and sand.

Ron"

This is gonna be great!

"Here is my first figure of 2016!

So It has been a few weeks since The Force Awakens has been released in theaters, and here at home we are already looking ahead. Already we are missing Star Wars Rebels and can't wait until its return this January. After a very successful first half of their second season, we can't wait to see what is in store for us in the last half."

That is definitely one way to get ready for the next season. I too am wanting more Star Wars already!

Sjefke continues his GOTG Projects...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, January 5 2016
"Hey Yarders

I hope everybody had a great holiday

Christmas is over, and the basement is painted. I finally had an afternoon to myself. I have been working on Groot, but making a Groot without Rocket is like making a Newman without Redford, a Laurel without Hardy or a C-3PO without R2.

I've done a little sculpting, but the scale is daunting. Every time I think I have it right, I'll take some pics, and it's clear that I'm way off. I hate high def close ups. They are unforgiving.

Anyway, I started on a Megablock Call of Duty figure with the ball jointed arms. I slapped some Aves of the Megablock head. I carved away what didn't look right until it looked better and then slapped on some more Aves againo until it looked a little better. Then repeat. My sculpting style reminds me of that story about how long would it take a hundred chimps typing random letters on typewriters to eventually come up with the complete works of Williams Shakespeare.

Anyway, I'm finally satisfied enough to mold this and make a few copies."

Wow, doesn't that look fantastic! I am hoping he makes ton of copies of this!

Glorbes is back with a new Star Wars Project!
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, January 5 2016
"A new year, a new Star Wars project!

My son has really gotten into Rebels and Clone Wars, which has also sucked me in as well. The one thing that seems like a rather conspicuously absent vehicle from the Clone Wars line is the Twilight. I figured I'd give it a go.

Progress so far:

It's way smaller than the ship's scale on the show (which would make it about the size of the Faclon), and it's more vintage Kenner in terms of proportions, but I'm happy with how the basic shape is coming together, and ESPECIALLY please with the articulated wing on the bottom of the ship.

More to come."

It makes me scratch my noggin that Hasbro hasn't yet given us a version of this. I sure do like the early looks of Glorbes' version. His scratchbuilds are legendary!

Mandalore25 gets back to business...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, January 5 2016
"Now that the holidays are winding down, it's back to work on my orders, made these two Zeltron for a customer."

I am telling you I am beginning to think I was a bit too hard on that Mara Jade "big hair" head sculpt as folks, like M25, are using it to great effect.

I-am-Boba-Fett shows us a Mechanic...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, January 5 2016
"Here's a custom GOTAL RESISTANCE MECHANIC Star Wars The Force Awakens figure that I made awhile back. This 3.75" tall custom figure features a modified resin cast head, resin cast lower forearms, and resin cast hands. I sculpted additional hair all around onto the lower portion of this custom resin cast head and sculpted new sleeves to match up to the resin cast forearms that I made for this custom one of a kind Gotal. Five points of articulation with poseable head, arms, and legs. Custom paintwork too.

This one of a kind custom figure is FOR SALE here."

I really like this kind of background character. We sorely need them on the pegs.

That is definitely the Ratfink I know. Bid with confidence folks.

Spuda Fett shows us the Asteroid Chase Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, January 4 2016
"A little diorama I put together today for my desk at work.

Started with a revel pocket kit falcon and some micro machines....

add some LEDS

damage a tie fighter...

add a flickering candle LED

build a base and get some brass rods and asteroids (lave rocks!)...

add a pursuer

test fit:

Weather that falcon:

repaint those rocks so they look more like asteroids instead of red lava rocks....

put it all together and voila."

Now those are some awesome steps to an awesome diorama. Very nice Devin!

Come see why Camo Deafie is one of my favorite Star Wars Artists!
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 3 2016
"These are all TIE fighter series.

First up, a version of a friend's design called TIE- MOTH; it has different wing panels than the usual one, and the verticals do fold down.

Secondly; a TIE Gunship with old style Advanced/Bomber wing panels, It has three turrets on it, one on each end of the pylons, and one on its chin.

Next up, a visualization of a TIE Crawler MK 2, something I think should have been used instead of sticking tank treads to the ends of the pylons.
It has similar turrets on the pylon ends, and two laser dish cannons over its "shoulders"

Finally; a TIE repulsorlift/hover-vehicle. It is built using scavenged parts, an old TIE fighter ball and cockpit, and some repulsorlift vehicle parts on it. It also have scramjet engines on the back for high speed chases and uses normal TIE laser cannons

Few more updates next post!"

I am loving that new version of the TIE Crawler. I keep hoping we will see something like this in the new films sometime. Trust me clicking into to his thread is so enjoyable. Make sure you scroll up and down and hit the other pages!

Spuda Fett improves the Riot Control First Order Stormtrooper...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 3 2016
"Modified Riot Control Trooper's baton.

I bought the target exclusive Poe and Riot trooper pack (not sure why those two were the ones put into this pack together and not Finn with the lightsaber... hasbro is so stupid sometimes...) but I noticed even before opening it that the riot trooper's baton is in the de-active mode. I loved how the two "blades" spring forward to become energized so I decided to modify it.

I cut the front end apart and rebuilt the center with styrene, then reatached the blades. I then used hot glue to create the "electrical" effects with clear blue acrylic paint on that."

Wow, isn't that so much better! I love it! I too agree it would have been a better pack in with Finn?

Holy Beboos creates an articulated Guavian Enforcer...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 3 2016
"Here's my new custom, I did an articulated Guavian enforcer based of a concept for a Guavian, I made him out of a GI Joe fig, and his head is some GI Joe cobra dude, his backpack is made from a plastic vest that belonged to another GI Joe very proud of how he turned out."

I like the looks of him too. It is always better with articulation if you ask me!

Ron Hembling finishes his Stormtrooper Skeleton...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, January 3 2016
"Hi All,

Firstly I hope everyone has a great NEW YEAR and I'll see you all in 2016.

Ok I have completed the Trooper Skeleton and as always here is the recipe.

Figure - The armour and back pack are from Bandai and the skeleton parts are from Figma's Skeleton figure. I just made the armour and then inserted the skeleton in to the connection section of the armour. For the chest area I just used the armour and not the inner section of the Bandai kit and just put the armour over the skeleton.

I used black cloth to simulate what was left of the body suit and just cut out pieces of cloth and glued them into place.

Base - is a piece of marine foam cut out and I then marked out where I wanted the figure and removed the foam so that there was a shallow hole. I then mixed plaster of paris, sand and PVA/woodglue and fixed it all together and then filled the shallow hole and let it dry for about 5 minutes then pushed the figure into the plaster.

Once the plaster dried I then made stones from marine foam by pulling apart the foam until I got the look I wanted. I then glued the stones into place and let it dry and once it was I then mixed the same mixer of sand plaster and glue and started laying it over the base and figure but not covering the figure.

To get the weathered and beat up effect of the armour I Vallejo paints and drybrushed the armour and then used a baby wipe and dapped it over the armour which removed some paint and mixes the drybrushed paint together to give it a worn effect.

The skeleton was painted using Vallejo paints and I did drybushes and washes to give it a worn weathered look.

Ron"

Happy New Year to you too Ron. I think your first share for 2016 is awesome!

Born on Farstine, a planet with a methane atmosphere, Vrees was in an accident as a child that caused serious lung damage. As a result Vrees is very seldom seen without an "encounter suit." Vrees doubles as the team pilot."
