Nice job on the dio, Ron!
You know, it’s the 1/35th military stuff that sparked my passion for modeling and dioramas in the first place. I still have magizines from the 70s full of articles depicting those old masters developing weathering and diorama techniques using what materials and technology’s that were available in the day.

I haven’t tried figures from either of those manufacturers yet. There is so much 1/35th stuff out there now.

Thanks heaps Clint, yeah I remember when I first started out which was nearly 38yrs ago we had to scratch build 90% of our own stuff. But as you mentioned the stuff out there now is amazing especially the buildings and scenery items for dios.

Hi All,

New Thunderbirds dio 1:144 scale.

Recipe

Recovery Vehicles - are the old IMAI kits and this one had the wheels underneath with the magnets could be shot out of the barrels. I didn't add all the springs etc and covered up the holes with plastic card and also alot of sanding was done to them as the moulds don't like up correctly.

I also added the antenna's, doors on the side and the bar at the front using plastic card and the connecting bracket between the magnets barrels I used a thinker piece of plastic strip.

The kits didn't come with decals so I used decals I had in my spare decals box and the RECOVERY VEHICLE signs on the side I did by printing them on the printer and then applying them to the vehicles. The vehicles were painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and pastel chalks.

Base - is a piece of high density foam cut to the desired shape and then a 50/50 mix of spakfilla/sand was applied to the base and once dry is was painted and weathered with Vallejo Paints and pastel chalks.

Hi All,

Here's another small 1:35 scale WW2 German vignette/dio that I completed last night.

The figures and raft are from Dragon Models and were built straight out of the box and painted and weathered using Vallejo Paints and Pastel chalks.

The base is a piece of foam cure and a removed some foam so that the raft would sit more naturally in the water. The embankment is foam board built up and and glued and then I used Tamiya's Soil Effects Brown to cover it.

Once dry I then gave the ground work a few washes of Vallejo Light Brown, the small tufts of grass are from Army Painter and the bushes are from Woodland Scenics and the clumps of darker foliage are from MiniNatur.

The water was done by using watered down spakfilla and covering the water area and then once dry painting it Vallejo's Dark Green and once that is dry a mix of Vallejo's Medium Green and Woodland Scenics Realistic Water mixed together and applied that to the base.
