Panther gets his daughter in on his dio building!
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, July 31 2017
"With my eldest daughter visiting me for 3 weeks I thought I would take a little time off, or so I thought. My daughter asked if she could help me construct a diorama or two while she is here and this is what we did.

Taking black foam board and cutting it into three wall, we marked out the brick on three of the pieces and the carved into board. The other three pieces were used as a second layer to strengthen the boards. We then cut in between some of the bricks and then pulled then apart to destroy parts of the walls and use them as rubble for the floor. I used two pieces of balsa wood for the floor, scoring the wood gently to make it look like floor boards."

JDeck updates us on his Throne Room...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, July 31 2017
"I worked on the wall sections, making damaged stucco effects. I painted the main archway section with WS watercolors. I had to totally rebuild the far side wall section, because it had a huge gap, that I overlooked, that is still in the process. So, you know, it's coming along.
I'll take better pictures of the details, when I pull it all apart again, just wanted a test fit. Much to do I still have."

It is looking good to me!

Stan is back with a new update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, July 31 2017
"These are droid we're looking for Hasbro! Big thanks to Hole in the Ground Production and Echosix for making these possible."

Great Droids Stan. Hats off to Hole in the Ground Productions. Give em a look see, sure to bring a smile to your customizing face!

Ron Hembling gives us a video...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, July 31 2017
"Hi All,

The transporter room is now 96% done I just need to add the black/white emitters on the transporter back wall and front edges then add the roof.

I completed the control panel and also added two LED's in the roof of the transporter pad and also some sound using a recorder from a teddy bear shop.

I also did a little video so here is the link to that."

We decided giving you the full video was better than just a link. Awesome Ron!

I got my Thrawn!

Well I had to have this one and was overjoyed to see this show up in the mail yesterday. I was even able to get it for a not so high price!

Show us you latest acquisition here!

Ron Hembling almost done with his Transporter Room Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, July 30 2017
"Hi All,

Well the last lot of WIP pics were supposed to be the last lot for 2 weeks but I can't put this project down and I am now on the last legs so I thought I would complete it before moving on to the commission pieces. The transporter room is now 90% complete and I'm hoping to have it completed by Tuesday this week.

I have painted the transporter room walls and floor and painted and added a few transporter console controls and just need to make a few more.

The roof of the transporter pad was done by using clear plastic furniture proctectors (pic attached) and then painting them and the steps were done using foam board.

Ron"

Now that is looking just like I remember from the show!

Darth Daddy and Elias are back with new customs...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, July 29 2017
"We've been busy here at home. So busy we haven't had a chance to share any of our new creations, so we apologize for posting so many figures at once.

CLONE WARS
"AHSOKA TANO - ZYGERRIAN SLAVE"
created by Elias

"CLONE WARS" ARC TROOPER ECHO
created by Darth Daddy

The Clone Wars
"Shadow Warrior" Padmé Amidala
created by Darth Daddy

ROGUE ONE "JYN ERSO - IMPERIAL FLIGHT CREW HELMET MODIFICATION"

"2X-3KPR Security Patrol Droid"
created by Elias

Now that is a lot of great new figures!

Gold Leader One fixes up a Bandai TIE Stryker...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, July 29 2017
"I picked up a TIE Striker Bandai model kit today. These are 1:72 scale (same scale as Action Fleets). While there was no painting or any custom work done, I did give it a few changes.

I dremeled a hole underneath towards the front to get it on a stand. I didn't want to, but the hole towards the back wasn't working, as there was too much weight forward.

I lost the tips to the laser cannons under the cockpit (very small). I cut off some tips from some X-wing laser cannons and just replaced them. They gave you a choice with the canopy window - black but no plastic covering, or a clear window with no black paint. I chose the clear window and just painted in the black, as the stickers were terrible for the clear canopy.

These go great with Action Fleets, so I may look into getting others. I can't fully get into another line, so I will most likely buy model kits of vehicles that weren't produced in Action Fleet form."

They sure do look perfectly in scale to AFs to me!

Hasbro confirms special packing for Rex at HASCON...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, July 29 2017
"Star Wars: The Black Series 6-Inch Clone Captain REX Figure ($24.99 USD): Featuring customized armor decos with distinctive blue markings inspired by the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series, this collector grade figure includes 28 points of articulation, four blasters, premium packaging, and a removable helmet revealing this fan-favorite character’s incredibly sculpted face. This item will be an early release with exclusive packaging and accessories!"

Sounds awesome to me!

I am also hearing rumors perhaps the SDCC Exclusives will be available there too.

-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, July 29 2017
"“I’m having a happy holiday… Cassian told me I had to…”

Mandalore 25 gives us a new Sith...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, July 28 2017
"today I think I have a cool one with the 6in Jaina Solo coming out, a 6in Jacen Solo/Darth Caedus. Took the new 6in Death Squad Commander, put the winter soldier head on, the likeness is surprisingly close to the depictions of Jacen, made the chest armor the same way I did for the 3.75in version I make, designed the soft goods from fabric that doesn't fray, and put it together with a belt I made to go around the soft goods. Only thing I'm not stoked about is the lightsaber, for I just extended a 3.75in blade for him. I'm working on a better way to make 6in sabers, working on several 6in projects that I'm pretty excited for, out of clear plastic rods painted with clear paints, but have no idea how it will go.

If anyone is interested, he's listed here:"

He sure works for me!

More work from Ron Hembling on the Transporter Room...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, July 28 2017
"Hi All,

More work done on the transporter room. I have done the back wall of the transporter pads by firstly painting it medium grey and once dry I then gave it several washes of light green.

Once the green was dry I then gave it a few washes of matte white and while it was drying I made swirls with the white. When the wall was finally dry I then used a clear plastic that has glitter in fused in it and glued it the back wall to simulate the wall.

I have also started adding control panels to the transporter control section using plastic card.

Ron"

It sure looks great to me!

Gentle Giant shares Star Wars Jumbo 4-Pack Pre-Order...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, July 28 2017
"40 years ago a generation of kids saw a movie that changed their lives. When they left the theater and went to the store to find action figures from their favorite new movie they did not exist. When the holidays rolled around and the kids wanted to find their favorite heroes, villains and droids under the tree, none could be found. The toy makers solution to this problem was “The Star Wars Early Bird Kit.” Parents, desperate for anything Star Wars to wrap for their kids, were sold a large cardboard envelope that had a fold out stand, some stickers, trading cards and a promise that WHEN the figures were made, they would be the first kids to receive them.

Gentle Giant Ltd pays tribute to that classic Star Wars story 40 years later with the Star Wars JUMBO Early Bird 4-pack. This 4 pack of action figure is a great jumping on point to the Jumbo line for new collectors as well as bringing back some earlier, harder to find figures for current Jumbo connoisseurs.

The Early Bird Jumbo figure 4-pack will come in a retro box mimicking the original Early Bird envelope, inside will be the familiar white mailer tray with Luke Skywalker (with his double telescoping lightsaber. The first DT saber in the Jumbo line!), Princess Leia (with white vinyl cape and blue blaster) Chewbacca (with greenish Early Bird crossbow blaster) and R2-D2 (with clicking head). Also included in the set will be larger reproductions of the stickers and a large foldout, replica display stand that will hold the “original 12” figures along with the perforated cards attached to the front.
Gentle Giant Ltd’s Jumbo line. Just like you remember, ONLY BIGGER!

2017 PREMIER GUILD MEMBERS - If you pre-order the Jumbo Early Bird Set between now and August 11th and you can get this set for the special Early Bird price of only $230! Don't miss out on this amazing price on this classic set!

Gentle Giant shares Bossk Statue pre-order...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, July 28 2017
"The bounty hunter known as Bossk has been a fan favorite ever since his debut in 1980. His popularity could not be contained to his brief appearance on the deck of the Executor in the Empire Strikes Back (and in the background of Jabba’s sail barge in Return of the Jedi). Bossk soon started filling out his robust backstory in both the Star Wars: Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels animated series, taking on the role of mentor to the young, orphaned Boba Fett.

The artists a Gentle Giant take you on a journey to see the moments just following the events of the death of Jabba, we find Bossk standing over the shattered throne of Jabba. At his feet, a chain left by Jabba’s escaped prize. What will he do next? Pursue the rebels or look for his next bounty?

Bossk is the third statue in our new 1:8th Collector’s Gallery line, celebrating 40 years of the Star Wars universe. Each limited edition, hand-painted piece is cast in high quality polyresin with crisp details. This statue also comes individually numbered with a matching certificate of authenticity."

Ron Hembling works on his Trek Bridge...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, July 26 2017
"Hi All,

While I'm waiting for the plastic to arrive to make the bridge chairs I decided to do some more on the the transporter room. I added transporter pads by using rubber soles for tables and chairs.

I then cut out circles in the transporter floor and added the rubber soles and super glued them in place. I then used a piece of thin plastic and covered the lower front section of the transporter and then used spakfilla to fill in the gaps on the transporter, walls and transporter controls.

Ron"

That is gonna be fantastic when finished too!

Blizzard Force is back with a new carded project...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, July 26 2017
"Here's a new project I started a while ago... A friend kept nagging me to finally do some vintage-style Star Wars:Rebels cardbacks....and finally I had time to follow up on his request...

Vader: "Anakin Skywalker was weak. I destroyed him."
Ahsoka: "Then I will avenge his death."
Vader: "Revenge is not the Jedi way."
Ahsoka: "I am no Jedi."

...here are my first two finished Star Wars:Rebels characters on the new vintage-style Rebels cardbacks - I really loved their duel at the end of season two..."

There will never be a better card style than vintage. Ever!

Bronxstalker is back with a new Mando...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, July 25 2017
"Thanks guys.

Here goes my latest 6" Mando Merc. I'm really digging working in this scale. It also allows me more room to use an airbrush, which I did all reds and yellows that way, to get that smooth finish (I hate hand painting yellows). Enjoy."

Now I think he turned out great. Click here to go to eBay and add him to your collection!

Darth Sinister is back with an update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, July 25 2017
"Hi all! I've got a few progress pictures on Crimson Jack. I still need to do some touch-up paint. Removable coat is done. Jet pack is going to have to be re-worked. The mold came out wonky and it wont cast correctly. The jet pack is also unpainted as is the space helmet. The space helmet and Jack's head are original sculptures, molded and cast in Smooth-on Smooth Cast 325. Still working out some casting issues... (I hate casting), but all will be good with lots and lots of patients.

Last photo is a Mando head I'm working on. Not happy with this one. Might re-work it soon. All are 6" scale."

That Crimson Jack looks great!

Ron Hembling finishes up his Trek Helm...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, July 25 2017
"Hi All,

The Captain's chair and helm/navigation section is all done except the chairs which I'm waiting on materials to arrive.

The bit of the helm/navigation station I have to do was the targeting system which was made using plastic card. Once it was put together and let dried I used a mix of Woodland Scenics Water Effects and Green paint and filled in the viewing section to simulate the glow of the targeting screen.

Ron"

Ron is definitely putting his new customizing room to good use!

"Hi All,

I finally moved into the house Tuesday gone and completed doing my model room up. I have re-started on the bridge diorama by painting the captains chair and helm/navigation section and the floor that they sit on.

I have also completed the captains chair and used plastic card for the instrument panels, I have started the helm/navigation console by adding the astrogator and the forward scanner plotter by printing them off the net and cutting and gluing them in place.

Ron"

Looking great Ron!

Panther is shooting for a flawless victory...

The bridge I used a black and a white wash and applied a second coat to the pillars before going over them with a black wash."

Now this is really coming together.

"Imperial Royal Guard

#38
Released: 2017

Packaging Text:
Resplendent in crimson robes and armor, the Imperial Royal Guard protected the Emperor. Secrecy shrouded the Guard, with rumors abounding about the sentinels' backgrounds and combat capabilities.
[wookieepdia: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Emperor%27s_Royal_Guard]

Articulation:
ball-jointed neck (very limited by the helmet)
swivel-jointed lower neck (very limited by the helmet)
ball-jointed shoulders
ball-jointed elbows
ball-jointed wrists
ball-jointed waist
ball-jointed hips
swivel-jointed thighs
double-jointed knees
ball-jointed ankles

Accessories:
force pike
scout trooper blaster pistol

I guess the helmet and the robe are removable but it takes some force.
There is also a holster for the blaster pistol on the belt.
The helmet and the details underneath the robe are beautifully sculpted. The red colour tone looks accurate. A must-have for every imperial collection."

He has also included a full pictorial review too. Good stuff from Christoph!

Whills Scholar adds some paint to his how too...

"UPDATE: paint preview!

I've been painting the entire playset inside and out. Here is a quickly snapped sneak preview of the interior components fully painted and with the decals glued onto them.

After the painting is done, I'll put online a whole bunch of new photos of the completed ship. I'm also hoping to get a Bodhi figure for the shoot -- you can't break up the team!

At the same time, I'll also post a brief guide that will explain how to properly prep and paint cardboard/paperboard models."

This is a tutorial for the ages! His U-Wing is fantastic!

JDeck shares new model reviews...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, July 20 2017
"I got the 1/144 Snowspeeder and AT-ST. This is the set in what I call the concept line. The concept line is really difficult to get in the U.S at a reasonable price. Because they are so inexpensive it is unprofitable for anyone to ship them from Japan. In my world a 33% markup is standard for retailers, this set I paid over 100% markup. Crazy.

On to the review. First the Snowspeeder. It is very nicly done, great details. As far as I know, it is 1/144. It does come with stickers, not water slide decals, like I'd like, but the stickers are still good. The Snowspeeder comes with a standard black stand, with a ball joint.

The AT-ST is very nice as well. It has a ball joint head. The legs do not move at all, so sometimes it's difficult to get it to stand. It does have one sticker, depicting the TESB Hoth variation. Otherwise, it would work great in an Endor dio as well."

Might have to get these as well!

Blizzard Force is back with an update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, July 19 2017
"Oh my...it's been ages again since I last had the chance to update here - sorry for that. So - let's start with my most recent project - a new reverse side for my The Vintage Collection custom cardbacks... :)

The "definitive" vintage reverse side for me is Kenner's POTF cardback featuring all figures on a yellow background. So I always wanted to update that to a modern version - with modern figures. However, the necessary work hours to realize this had always kept me from trying this....until now, that is. ;)

So - based on Kenner's classic design, here are all 96 modern equivalents (including a few necessary customs) of the complete Kenner lineup for the original trilogy... More than 115 layers in Photoshop, my most ambitious reverse side yet...can't wait to get this printed... :D"

Wow, thats a lot of layers!

"Concept "I'm not going back to Jakku" Finn complete. I know he's not the most popular character to customize, but I dig the look a lot.

3 figure parts went into him, minor sculpting, and shoulder pad attached via elastic strap, so articulation is no hindered in any way."

Looks good to me. Click here to go add him to your custom collection.

JDeck finishes his Bandai AT-AT Model Review...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, July 16 2017
"Alright, so I finished the build. I estimated a 4 hour build time, but I got it done in about 3 hours, meybe less. The undercarriage is very nicly detailed, it has soft plastic hip joints, so the legs can be removed without damage. The body has 2 panels that are removable with mechanical details underneath. This is the most detailed AT-AT kit I've ever seen. It's the ultimate AT-AT. Yes, it's a little small, at 6.5 inches, but it packs a wallop. What more can I really say, it's a great kit.

I chose not to paint this one. It doesn't really need it. However a black wash would really bring out the detail, and add some realism. The cockpit could use some paint and detailing, as could the underside of the removable panels."

I have one just like this. I need to build it. Thanks for the review JDeck!

JDeck reviews the Bandai 1/144 AT-AT...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, July 15 2017
" I finally bought the Bandai 1/144 AT-AT. I've been waiting for this since that one video of the motorized version of this AT-AT. Back in 2014.

I'm not sure of the parts count, but I estimate it to be about 134, about the same as the 1/144 TFA Falcon. The parts are mostly cast in a light grey plastic. The little drivers are also in the light plastic. Not sure why they didn't cast it with the white parts. The kit also comes with a white snowy display base. There are also clear red parts for the view port and laser effects.

The instructions are in both English and Japanese. I noticed they are now being distributed in the U.S, by Bluefin. However they do not distribute the figure kits, only the vehicles. The kit only comes with a few small decals 2 for the Pilot's helmets, and 3 small silhouettes for the view port."

Stay tuned as he takes us along his build!

"Happy 300th figure to Darth Armoress Customs, with this 6" Cole MacGrath as he appeared in the inFAMOUS 2 video game. Made him from a DC Batman vs. Superman Lex Luthor, shaved down around the joints a bit, and sculpt the hair. His backpack, and Amp (his weapon) are made from scratch, just cut up rubber sheet, plastic rods, and Green Stuff (for some flex). The backpack even comes off by magnets, and holds his Amp with straps that connect by magnet. All the electricity was bought in a set.

For anyone interested you can see nearly all 300 of my figs here: https://www.facebook.com/DarthArmoressCustoms/

Well though I posted the product of my molding, but my internet has been going down randomly. Anyway, here is the first complete Vodo-Siosk Baas made with a casts of the parts I sculpt. As of right now there will be at least 3 more to come, and I started to cast them in red."

"It's been a busy couple of weeks with work, grabbing time to work on this project has been difficult recently but when I have, my problems with work have melted away.

As you can see, I have made three grooves into the Pits floor for the pillars to sit into. For the top of each tower, a wall which each side of the bridge will now slot comfortably into.

All that is needed before painting this is to finish off the pillars and a back wall with a skyline."

"Han Solo Ralph McQuarrie Concept Series Mini-Bust

Ralph McQuarrie’s early designs of Han Solo display a vast difference from that of the final version as seen in Star Wars: A New Hope. Designed initially as a Lightsaber wielding, bearded Jedi Knight, this mini bust explores a fascinating look into the conceptual development of one of science fiction’s most roguish smugglers.

Designed, modeled and prototyped using top of the line 3D technology. The 1:6th scale Han Solo (McQuarrie Concept) mini bust is hand cast, hand-painted and hand-numbered with a limited edition certificate of authenticity.

"Holographic Princess Leia Collector’s Gallery Statue

“Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi… you’re my only hope”
It’s the phrase that spurned a farm boy to be a hero, made an exiled Jedi come out of hiding and ignited our imaginations for the past four decades. To help celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, one of the most iconic moments in modern film history is captured here, in this Collector’s Gallery statue from Gentle Giant Ltd., when a holographic message from Princess Leia Organa, that was smuggled inside the memory banks of a feisty droid, is played first for a dumbfounded Luke Skywalker and then again for the message’s intended recipient, Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Sculpted by the master artisans at Gentle Giant Ltd. the holographic Princess Leia Collector’s Gallery statue features a light up function and button activated sound clip to help you even in your most desperate hour. This limited-edition statue comes hand numbered with a matching certificate of authenticity.

Limited edition of 770 pieces."

"The Pit is coming along nicely. Today was a succesful day, I stripped off the top layer of card from towers, bridge andf floor. Once removed, I've started adding in the detail. Removing the top layer, makes the foam board bow, to stop this, I have added a second layer of board to the bridge.

The next part is turning the foam into stone pillars, to do this I have added a layer of modroc over each piece of foam and the wooden scure place through the middle of each to keep them straight. Just need these parts to dry before adding details to the tops of the towers and a back wall."

Looks pretty awesome to me!

My Kind of Scum gets his kit bash on twice and thrice for the latest challenge...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, July 2 2017
"First up is a fairly basic one. I see her as a slicer/spy for the rebels. It uses the full body and head of a GI Joe "Shooter" figure with the vest from Jyn Erso black series, a wrist computer from the Toys R Us Thunderbirds toyline, and a gun from the Acid Rain line:

Next up is a member of Saw's partisans on Jedha. She uses the full Jyn Erso black series body, head and hood from Marauder inc, cloth goods from Leia black series, straps/gear from Chirrut Imwe, and a rebel fleet trooper blaster.

These were both great entries. And that my friends it what we call a wrap to our latest customizing challenge. It was one of our most successful and entered to date and I was pretty stoked to see all the great combinations that were put together with nothing but parts. Remember folks, customizing doesn't always have to be about hours and hours and highly detailed work. Sometimes it just takes the right combination of parts and a little creativity and you can really make something over the top! Also for the last time, the full gallery of all the entrants is here:

Sjefke is back with the Winter Wookie!
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, July 2 2017
"The Winter Wookiee WIPs

Hey Yarders

I want to show the build of a figure I made for Clone_Crazy's latest photonovel chapter. He had asked for "kick a$$ Wookiees. I talked him into my female Wookiee. I'm not sure he'll use her, but I've fabricated some freaking awesome accessories for her.

This one I eventually nicknamed the Winter Wookiee. I started out with an MU Drax, an MU Dreadlock head and all the body parts from a Terminator T-1000. I cut up the Terminator and lengthened the upper arm with a plastic gun butt and spliced on the left wrist of Dreadlock with a Megablock figure ball joint. I cut off the Drax leg at the thigh and glued on the Terminator leg, making sure that the knee joints were even. The cyborg ankle is the right upper arm flipped upside down. The foot is the T-1000's upper arm, so it has rocker ankles. I dremelled out most of Drax's chest and secured the Terminator chest and back pieces."

Looks pretty rad to me!

ball-jointed shoulders (limited by the shoulder armour)

The helmet, other armour pieces and the hoses going from the chest box into the back of the helmet are not removable.

I couldn't agree more. It is nice to see Fiala pick up some of my slack. How I never found time to review this particular offering myself is a travesty!
