Hey all. I've finally started on 2 non-SW customs. I've primered them, now onto painting.

I bought some jars of  Tamiya paints. I painted some black on one, and even after drying, the color is super shiny. I'd like to have my characters look like they've seen some battles. Is there a method or an additive I can use to get the shine out of this paint?

FYI the label says "BLACK X-1". Nothing about gloss or flat.

Try a clear matte varnish over your paint work that you don't want to be shiny. I do like 5 or 6 coats and it seems to protect from scratching as well. One coat however is enough to take the shine off.

Thank you DS, I will do that. I read somewhere about buffing, too, but I can't imagine it would be uniform at all. I will post about my progress. Thanks again.

Tamiya X-1 is gloss black. Tamiya XF-1 is flat (matte) black. Here's the colour chart, hope it helps:
