Little stairway
« on: February 25, 2016, 07:57:56 PM »
Back at it again on a bit smaller scale. Facebook user John Connor had a nice little stairwell made for him that I liked so much, I was inspired to create one of my own. This will probably be the quickest dio for me in a long time. 2 nights and already slinging paint.....but still a bit of a ways off....lol

Scraps and a glue gun

Threw a heavily watered grey paint on it tonight to fill in all the cracks. This will be covered by either a very dark grey or maybe charcoal black, and then dry-brushed will all shades of colors. Going to have my hand at some graffiti as well, that should be interesting..lol. The fences got a grey wash too to kill the shiny metal.

Stay tuned!

Thanks guys! Sadly, dioramas are becoming few and far between these days.  :-\

I always said that turning 40 wouldn't change me. I wouldn't hit the "mid-life crisis" button, but I just have less and less time, and less and less motivation most nights to do more than flip through channels or watch a movie. Even then, I am normally knocked out half way through. I don't actively collect anymore, so my reasons to build dioramas are waning as I just basically build them so they can sit on a shelf as I don't do much photography with them any more either. I know I'm not old, but I find myself questioning, "when is it time to stop?"

Watching paint dry (always looks the ugliest at this point)

First coat (of many)

Love how the undercoat adds to the chipped concrete look!

This is look great already and the chipped and uneven areas make this look realistic.

Added a very dark grey wash and some greenery. Now it's onto the part that scares me most; graffiti..lol

Wow, looking good. Off to share. I almost hate to see you vandal up the walls, but I wondered if you were gonna do a bit of graffiti.

Yea, sadly, the graffiti is probably going to take the longest...lol. I am NOT good at it, so I might spend some time and practice first. It's also hard to "age" it, but I have some tricks ;)

On a side note, getting back to our discussion about not doing as many dioramas....I bought 48 bottles of new paint yesterday as Michael's Crafts has them on sale for .33 each! Guess I'm still in it.....lol.

Great looking Turtles diorama! What did you use for the fence? I am thinking you cut up a office file holder or trash can. Glad to hear you are still in it!
