Hello Shipyarders, today we are announcing the No Paint Kit Bash rally. In the holiday spirit of giving, this is not a contest, just friends having fun. The prize is the awesome figures you will be creating for your collection. We are going to have a time frame of the rest of December to the first two weeks of January (around the 11th). Open to any member of the Shipyards, make as many figures as you want. Also open to any toy line, this does not have to be a Star Wars figure, it can be anything from any line. The idea is to get us thinking about what parts look good together without painting anything. You are allowed to add greblies, bits, strapping or other "do-dads" as you wish.
Submit work in progress pics at any time during the event in this thread. When you ready to post your final entry please label it that way and we will try to get a voting thread set up to let folks here chose their favorite kit-bash custom just for fun. I encourage you to explain what you have done and list all parts used and mention what mods you made if any. So boil and pop away, build up your figures gear and have fun!
Message from Tamer: Please if you are quoting another member's pics when repsonding to their wip or final entry pics, please limit it to no more than one or two so I can peruse this thread to set up the voting thread when this is done. This would also be a great contest to get your little ones and significant others involved so we highly encourage everyone to get the entire family chopping and glueing for this one!

Great idea, Tamer!
I've been doing no-paint kitbashes recently, they are good fun to do.
Here are some NO ENTRY pics just to get the ball rolling. More in my custom figures thread.

Tamer, thanks for kicking this off!
Commander, great to see you giving us a taste of what you have been up to and a bit of inspiration.
I have a few ideas and I think we will also see some entries from my padawan, Jaxon Starkiller.
-
No problem L.E.
Looking good Volker!
-
Here I sit, thinking about the FIVE CARDS of SW and Marvel figs I put on layaway that I'll pay out on the 20th... This is gonna be awesome!! (or was it eight cards...)

That would be awesome Justin. I might even have to get my dremel back out for this one too.

This lad is part of the concepting process for my Secret Santa gift (which is running late, of course). Once I have the SSGift done, I'll go through a parts breakdown.

Looks great already...Jax Pavan maybe (from the Coruscant Nights series)?
vvv
-
That was one of the inspirations, yes... 8) The gift version will have paint-apps, so I posted up this lad for the NPKB. I think I'm going to make one for myself once I finish the SSGift version and make some alterations to it...
-
This will be my first! This aught to be interesting..............
-
Ouch... that purple text hurts.
(BTW! KeKe is my daughter, so I guess she'll be using my workspace to customize while I'm away from home during the weeks...)
Can't wait to see what you come up with, girl!
-
Doc, I am a bit confused. Are you saying there is another Rally Thread?
-
KeKe had somehow managed to start a second thread. Someone has gotten them merged now, tho.
-
I know we said this was a rally, but I am gonna personally donate a few prizes for this like fan favorite based on our vote, honorable mentions, etc.
I always like prizes! 0/

Tamer for Grand Admiral! Yey!

Been tinkering and came up with this.......all parts,no paint.
Deceased endor troopers........plus a couple of random kit bash figs.
-
Good entries Ben! I really like the weapons KP.
-
Oh yeah Evo Stromies with great weapons and that gal with the saber and bowcaster is tough looking too. Keep em coming Shipyarders.
-
So I was going to use my brother's pieces....... I just moved into his room a few, (maybe several..), weeks ago and moved all his stuff. I made SURE that I put his boxes of action figure pieces in a place where I could find them easily when ever I wanted. NOW I CAN'T FIND THEM!!!! That is SO aggravating!
-
...he picked them up and took them, he says...
-
This is my entry.
Since Starkiller figures are hard to come by in Germany (read: next to impossible) and if you manage to find one, it's prohibitively expensive, I decided to kitbash a Galen Marek figure.
I didn't want just some figure, but I wanted my Starkiller to come with a bunch of accessories.
He's probably not game accurate, but he's in an outfit conceiveable for the character.
The base figure is an Anakin figure. The lower arms and gloves came from an Imperial Storm Commando. I found that the heads on those Starkiller figures I have in my collection don't look much like Sam Witwer, so I chose a GI JOE ROC Duke head which I think looks more like Starkiller.
The blue lightsabers came from my parts box. The cape came with the Anakin figure (I think), the hood is from a TVC Darth Sidious. The softgoods cloak is from the TVC Darth Maul.
I added an "action harness" which came off a ROC Red Ninja and to which I added a kama or inner robetype garment made of a piece of nylon webbing.
The photos show that you can dress Starkiller in different ways so he has a lot of play value.

-
Wow, that looks GREAT!
-
Damn it looks good!
-
Oh yeah, nailed it.........great job. Nice idea with the change of accessories. ;D
One head I tend to use for star killer customs is the Mcquarrie concept rebel trooper.......used it for a correlian flight suit version.

Nothing too fancy here:

I was never fond of the exposed cleavage on the second Juno Eclipse figure as it was unfitting for an officer of the Empire and for the fact that while accurate to the game, the way the open jacket front was sculpted does not correspond to the actual way the front of the uniform is constructed so these 2 bodies became custom fodder.
The main bodies are unmodified, but I did add holsters from some 2009 Trek movie figures, pistols from v1 Destros and some assorted little bitz for the lapel commbadges as well as using 2 new heads. No paint was applied save for trimming off some of the silver overspray from the production Hasbro pieces.
-
Volker, you hit upon one of the main reasons to kit-bash. I shared your update on our facebook page hoping to get more involved.
Spectre, good use of parts here to make a better figure too.
-
No prob, Shawn.
Spectre, you used one of my fav female heads. Gotta love that Elsa Schneider.
Especially among base figures wearing a uniform or armor, a head-swap is the best way to create a variation. Well done!
-
Yeah, but you are biased, sir! She's German... you're German... see? Inherent cultural bias! ;D
And yes, headswaps make for great easy variations. Too bad Hasbro won't give us consistent head-nubs!!
-
At least among the Star Wars figures, the nubs should be a standard size.
Would even be cooler if GI Joe and Star Wars had the same size nubs.
-
Indeed!! And Hasbro has *always* danced around - ok, IGNORED - that question. But that's ok, we are customizers...we will overcome.
-
Here's some of my kit bashed Jedi. Mon calamari,Gran,Vuvrian Jedi general Nystammal, various human figures mostly based on obi wan and qui-gon bodies.
Nystammal the Vuvrian was a combo of Wioslea and sora bulq
-
Great looking figures Benjani!
Doc and Kurgan, you may have missed my C^ wrap up but I discussed the neck nub sizes with the Hasbro team. They all looked at each other, nodded their heads and said we too want to get closer to standardized neck nubs in the future. They realize it will make things easier on customizers and themselves.
-
I did miss that. That's welcome news!
-
My Kitbash entry.
Battle damaged samurai warlord.
Star wars Ulic (something) base figure. The figure is untouched, the ragged look of the torso and the torn kama, fit perfectlly with the battle damage look. The torso also has an oriental feel to it. Weapons and helmet are from a 1:18 scale samurai figure wich is very crappy but has the awesome accesories.
Head is a Gi joe 2012 retaliation red ninja figure, the cape is from the mandalore comic pack.
I think the color combos of browns and reds worked well.
Hope you enjoy.

That's not a cheap figure to custom ;)..........ulic qel droma, very hard to find comic pack figure. The samurai,I got one in a bundle once........nasty joints,I think it's by papo or ELC.
Everything comes together spot on,a damn fine piece you have there.
-
Nothing too fancy here, this figure is just another entry for the "No Paint Kit-Bash Rally".

Base figure is one of the Ep.II Jedi younglings (the little girl Shaak Ti one), the head is from the "Spy Kids" line, the collar is from my greebles bag and the hands are from some female Star Wars figure. No paint was applied.
-
Wow, look at these entries!
The Samurai looks killer and the Jedi youngling is pure innocence and sweetness.
Cool as can be!
-
I agree Volker, awesome new entries. It is gonna be fun setting up a voting thread for this. Time to update the front page with one of these two.
-
Shawn, this is one really cool contest.
With all those parts available we can create an almost unlimited range of fully playable figures.
No fear of messing up an awesome artistic paintjob involved.
-
I couldn't agree more Volker.
I am so envisioning a book, well mainly photos, but with recipes of how to create awesome kit bashes from existing action figures. I know it is rather niche, but I would sure buy it.
-
I like both of these as well. That samurai warlord is killer!
-
Thanks guy's, i'm happy you liked it.
I did'nt know the figure is HTF (Ulic Qel Droma)... now i am glad it is still intact. LOL.

^^^Thanks Ben.^^^
-
Too much fun in this thread to bad No-Paint is my Kyptonite :D
-
Ulic qel droma and exar kun are rare comic pack figures..........£40 each figure.......£100 I've seen complete packs go for and then some.
Indeed luckily he's intact........all thanks to this being a 'kitbash only' thread ;D

FINAL ENTRY. These are just a few Ewok NPKB custom figures I used to decorate our Christmas tree. I usually do an advent calendar event here at home where I put a new Star Wars figure on the tree every day until we get to Xmas. Usually it is mostly Hasbro figures, but I put up a few customs this year as well. From what I could tell, these were Elias' favorites:

not sure if this counts or not but I am not a customizer, but I did "improve" the new Hoth Luke by adding SL Hoth Hans goggles and cutting the scarf that comes with the figure and merging it into the head band sculpt.....
-
It is *definitely* an improvement!
-
looks seriously better ! so guess what! your ARE a customizer ...youve taken your first steps in a larger world......
-
Wow, like the Ewoks and the better Hoth Luke. Off to the front page with an update.
-
Great looking Ewoks Brian! great idea cuttin off Sassie Tinn's horns!
That is an awesome Luke! Yes, it counts for sure, I need to mod mine, I really like yours!
I have a few done but photobucket has not worked for me for 3 days now. Anyone else having trouble? I hope to add mine whenever it decides to start working again.
-
Very cool updates, love the improved Hoth Luke for sure and the Ewoks look great! Hey DD what is the chest plate from on the first Ewok?

I am gonna leave this open till Sunday and then arrange a favorite voting thread. Wow, its gonna be hard to pick between Jaxxon and his Dad alone, let alone the rest of these. Just a great job Shipyarders. I am off to the front page with the Sprywalker Update.
-
I figured I would step in and let everyone know what we did for Jaxon's custom. He picked out all the parts and it started with the Anakin chest, Embo cowl, and skirt, Vizla head and helmet, Nikto Guard head cover on the helmet. So I then boiled and popped the parts togather as he found some Cad bane arms, Senate Trooper legs and hands. a problem came up when the torso articulation had to be removed so I cut that off and added a screw in the top of the waist so the figure could retain articulation. So everything went together and Jaxon found the Dark Blade and a Nikto blaster to finish everything off.
I really like Jaxon's figure and thought the parts choices were very good. I had no say in any of these parts and think it all blends for a seamless new figure. Way to go son!

I got a little something not much but I am happy with it. I must say it has been a long time since I made a custom this simple but what fun! This is my Shadow Alley Viper Officer. Only $16 to make this figure too which bargain basement for a kit bash!

Hi everyone! While i've been a member here for a small while this will be the first time you guys will see my work, Tamer has been gracious enough to post the pictures for me so as soon as i finish this i will email them to him.
The back story, Qui Gon Jin has always been rebelious, so lets imagine him off off the jedi path, he's a smuggler who has managed to do a few odd jobs for the mob, picking up a bounty every now and then.
Ok the recipe: the figure is a power of the jedi, qui gon in jedi training gear, the back pack is from a joe diver, the kama from a aec , ammo pouches from a sandy, and a few bits from cad bane, the only parts i had to glue were the back pack, ammo pouches, and the extra lightsaber.
This was a fun build i think i will leave it as it is. It was a challenge trying to make the colors match up.

There's been some awesome stuff shown off so far!
All of my custom fodder has been on lockdown for over a month now - I think I'm on 34 or so days since I got to touch it... ever since we had to clear out things for a flloor installation. But this weekend, I plan on getting it back out. This is killing me not having my fodder out to toy through - but I will hopefully be able to assemble something for this over the weekend. I'm sure my wife will be thrilled to see the "old me" back in action! :P

Here's a GI Joe I made using Frostbite (v12) torso and arms, White Out (v2) legs and gloves, and the alternate head and goggles from POC Zartan. The scarf is just a ring cut from a paper towel , and wrapped around the neck-post. Sorry for the fuzzy picture.

The ruthless reptilian sentient known as Rolundo Tebbiss is a vicious gunslinger in the employ of the Black Sun criminal syndicate and stationed on the harsh desert world of Tattooine. Tebbiss was assigned to the local Black Sun Vigo, Jabba The Hutt. Tebbiss was often sent to collect on outstanding loans or to terrorize the local moisture farmers into paying Jabba The Hutt for "protection" from the scum and villany brought in by the local spaceport cities. In the years following Jabba The Hutt's death, Tebbiss has continued doing Black Sun's bidding, under the new local Vigo Wallik The Hutt.

Thank you.

Anthony Daniels for the win.
I agree with you on that, such a simple idea, but makes for a very effective behind the scenes C3P0 figure.
Would look awesome next to a Kenny Baker in the R2D2 shell, with the dome off and his head poping out the top.

Scroll back up to see Bobby Brazil's pics as I just got em loaded.

Kind of a last minute entry but I just kitbashed this figure and liked how it came out. I just received a Dark Woman figure in the mail and was dissapointed with the articulation, so I boil and popped a Vintage Collection Barris Offee lower torso and the Dark Woman upper torso. She doesn't look bow-legged and now has some added articulation. Cheers everyone.

FINAL ENTRY. Elias and I are planning on banging out a few of NPKB this weekend, but I did take a few minutes today to create this quick no paint kitbash. I really love him on so many levels. I think he's my new favorite Endor Rebel. Nothing fancy, just classic kitbashing. To create the figure I used the hands, feet, and head of a POTF Momaw Nadon and made sure that when I added them to the body of a Vintage Orimaarko that I kept the articulation of the Vintage figure. I made the head ball jointed, kept the swivel wrists, and added a swivel where both feet met the legs by utilizing a clear styrene rod to connect them. The Ithorian only took a few minutes to make. The longest part of the entire process was waiting for the krazy glue to dry. If you like the figure as much as me, I recommend making one of your own. It's too easy not to.

Now that is a cool one Brian. I so think we need more Alien Rebel Soldiers. This one would look cool beside Major Panno. Heck, I would easily see something like this is a Mon-Calamari too using the Ackbar figure.
I will get this one on for the final front page update on this today.

FINAL ENTRY. So today is the last day of Imperial Shipyards No Paint Kitbash Rally. After I saw the Ithorian Endor Rebel Soldier that day made for the rally on Friday, I knew I wanted in on the action before the event came to a close. I ended up making four NPKB action figures before the weekend was over and Dad made two more for the event as well, although Dad says the Ithorian is still his favorite.
The first custom action figure I made was a Clawdite Jedi. My dad's friend Brad, sent a text to my Dad on Thursday of a photo that had a plastic bin full of Star Wars figures with a label that read "Star Wars Figures - $2 each". Dad called him right away and picked up some really cheap fodder. The body for my Clawdite came from a Clone Wars Ki Adi Mundi that was in that plastic bin. The forearms that I used came from the "new" Clone Wars Obi-wan Kenobi that I had under the tree ay Christmas. We had removed Obi-wan's arms from the figure and replaced them with the arms of the previous release of the character to give the new sculpt articulated wrists. It would be cool if this Clawdite had the articulated wrists, but I like the way he came out overall. I grabbed an alternate Zam Wessel head to finish the figure off.

My astromech was just a simple head swap.
To create the Naboo Peasant action figure, I asked Dad to hollow out the Padme Amidala hood. Dad carefully cut out Padme's face in case we ever wanted to use it later, and then used a Dremmel to hollow out the hood so it could be slipped over a Zam Wessel head. Once that was done, my design was complete.

Dad used the Zam Wessel torso upper arms and upper legs and paired them with the head, lower arms and legs of a Clone Wars Chewbacca. He made some adjustments to Zam Wessel's helmet, cutting it into three separate pieces that still fit snugly on the ball jointed head of the figure because of the way the optical unit held it all together. I love the way Dad designed the helmet, because it came out looking like the helmet transforms when in different positions. I can even shake the figure upside down and it all stays intact no matter what position it's in. Dad said he may paint this figure sometime in the future, but right now he's more concerned about creating some Ewoks for Mr. Black's Customs.

The last figure Dad made was a Devaronian Movie Star that he created using a Marvel Absorbing Man action figure and cut off the ends of the ponytail from two G.I. Joe Scarlet heads that we had in our fodder to create the Devaronian's horns. To accessorize the figure, Dad used the shirt of a POTF Momaw Nadon, armour from a Clone Wars Thi-sen action figure, as well as the shawl of a AOTC Lott Dodd action figure. Dad's having a hard time sticking to a fashion choice for this figure, because he likes all three looks. He also would like to paint this figure too one day.
