Star Alien 70 is back with new Cantina Customs...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, September 30 2017
"Hi. Thanks for all the comments. Here’s some more Cantina Patrons.

Custom Saurins - Sia'torr Kal Fas and Hrchek Kal Fas (is that the right way round?): These don't actually use any parts from TLC version; I only managed to get one of those, and as there wasn't much that was screen accurate with it, I decided to do my own.

Custom Garouf Lafoe

Custom bald local

Custom ugly local"

I will share the other three below, but be sure to click through to see the full recipes.

Ron Hembling rocking his Indy build...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, September 30 2017
"Hi All,

More work done to the boulder chase dio.

I added spakfilla to the walls/ceiling and the I sprayed the walls/ceiling with Tamiya's German Grey and the boulder was sprayed with Tamiya's Medium Grey.

I still need to weather everything and then start on the floor and then the vines/roots and moss.

Ron"

I know he is at a modeling competition with a certain AT-AT today. I can't wait to see if he wins! Great Boulder Update anyhow!

Panther wows me with his water work...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, September 30 2017
"After 8 hours, a few washes of different tones of blues were administered to lower level. A rippled River water sheet was mounted on top, turning it into a stream. I’ve place the Tiger Shark on top, impressed with how it looks. The next part will be removing the excess dirt and administrating a coat of glue over the rest, adding more foliage to the top mound."

Before I even read his comments I thought about how real the water looked! Make sure you click through to see the full update as it is all great.

Uh wow, and speaking of his Falcon work take a look at this:

Izzy Mel 45 introduces himself!
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, September 28 2017
"Here is my replica of the 1980's unproduced Rebel Blockade Runner.

Haven't printed it yet but here is another Speeder from Tatooine. Hopefully it will be done soon."

This was the fellow that Stan introduces us too earlier in the week. I can sure see why Stan likes his work so much. Looking at that blockade runner all I can think of is how cool it would be to see this on store shelves!

Art deWhill gives us new artwork...

And don't worry if this modern painting style not your cup of tea, one cannot like all sorts of art ;-) Let me know what style you would enjoy more instead."

Speaking for myself I think its great. I like to see all kinds of styles of anything sci fi!

Ron Hembling making progress on his Boulder Chase Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, September 27 2017
"Hi All,

More work done on the 1:6 Boulder Chase Dio.

I have attached the boulder to the inside of the dio and then I glued aluminum foil to simulate the cave wall/ceiling. Once the glue was dry for the aluminum foil I then used plaster cloth and covered the foil.

The stalagmites/stalactites were done using the left over plaster cloth.

Next up I will be using spakfilla to cover the plaster cloth to cover holes etc

Ron"

He has since posted images of how that is coming along too. Nicely is the word that comes to my mind!

Panther advances his Tiger Force Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, September 27 2017
"I'm not going to be working on this for the next couple of days but I wanted to share with you these pictures of the Outpost and wall after the paint and resin has cured and can be put together."

Talk about coming together nicely!

-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, September 26 2017

The Trek dio is now complete and here are my usual out door pics. I have repainted the figures heads, hands, equipment and boots. Once dry I used a gloss varnish on the eyes, lips and boots.

Ron"

Ron just knows good work period.

Stan introduces us to a new customizer...

Now that is some awesome stuff!

Talonreap back with a Gregor...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, September 26 2017
"Hey again, here's the last of my clone customs. I tried to save the best for last! This is Clone Captain Gregor, a Commando who fought at the Battle of Sarrish and was featured in Season 5 of the Clone Wars show.

The figure is Boss, and I gave him a base coat of Skull White, then dry brushed layers of Codex Gray and Mechanicus Standard Gray to give him the weathered look. The yellow markings are Yriel Yellow, and the black is Chaos Black. I hope to one day get a Clone Wars-style backpack for him, as I don't prefer the utility pack the Boss figure came with.

Thanks again for all the feedback on my customs, and I hope you enjoyed some of the Clone Wars content!"

I know I sure did. I miss the Clones!

Mr. Black is back with new work!
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, September 26 2017
"Once again, a long hiatus is behind me and I'm back at it. Actually, my return to this great world and community was motivated by fellow Yarder and customizer bornvirgo93 who contacted me about a new commissioned figure Aayla Secura, as seen in the Republic comics. Currently sculpting like crazy on an amazing HACKS female body he supplied:"

It is great to see Remco back kicking the tires!

Ron Hembling back with a new Kirk Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 25 2017
"Hi All,

The base is now done and I just need to repaint the figures and equipment.

The ground work was given two light dry brushed of Vallejo Beige Brown and the two light dry brushes of Vallejo Beige Brown and Army Painter Flat White.

The bushes are from Woodland Scenics and the small tufts of grass are from Army Painter and the creeping vines are from MiniNatur.

Ron"

Looks pretty awesome to me!

Finley002 back with an eye decal update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 25 2017
"Hey everybody, Just thought that I would do a follow-up post regarding the laser printed decal option for face customization... As mentioned before, it's a delicate process (decal paper can be easily torn while re-positioning). But now that I've gotten the hang of it, it will definitely be my primary method of customizing faces."

It is nice to always have options!

Dan "The Spectre" Kosa gives his take on the Rathtar...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 25 2017
"Rathtar W/Bala-Tik Review:

The Rathtar W/Bala-Tik falls into the
new $19.99 MSRP "Beast" assortment. If you take the pack-in figure to be a $7-$8 value, this places the Rathtar at a $12-$13 price range which is fair for what you get."

That is the just the start of his very thorough review.

Panther starts a new dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 25 2017
"After sanding down the base of the outpost, I stuck on four posts for roof with an adjoining beam between them. Then taking a piece of foam board and slicing it in half to reduce the thickness, I stuck in some corrugated card on top.

I decided to leave this until tomorrow to paint and work on the landscape.
Taking some insulation board and cutting some lengths to build up the height, using filler along the edges.

The bottom layer is going to be a river and I've ordered the stuff to make it but if it doesn't arrive on time then I'll turn this into a road. The brick wall will go on the middle level and the outpost will be placed on top level.

Filler was used around the edges of the base to cover up the layers of foam board. While the filler is drying, first coats of paint have been applied to the brick wall and Outpost."

He is off and running on this new one already!

Hopefully by the time I get home from work this evening I will be able to fix the swords to rack, take final photos over the weekend and call this project finished."

"Hi All,

Here are the usual outdoor pics for the AT-AT head dio and also one with the lights down and the flames on.

I know I am way biased when it comes to the subject matter on this one, but this might just be his best project ever and you know that is saying something. It is just over the top awesome! Here are some of his FB Galleries to finish it off:

Ron Hembling starts new Indy Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, September 21 2017
"Hi All,

Start of a new commission for a mate in Canada who runs and owns the Ravenwood Museum and here is an interview with Les the owner. Start the video at 10.57 and that is the start of the interview.

This will be a 1:6 scale boulder chase dio something similar to the 1:35 scale one I did a few years.

So far the frame work is high density foam and I will be starting on the boulder and cave structure tomorrow.

Ron"

This is gonna be another great one as I can already see!

Ron Hembling is making my week!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, September 20 2017
"Hi All,

I have added the snow by watering down spakfilla until it is like a pancake consistency and then applied it to the base.

The snow on the AT-AT was done using a small brush and then using a almost dried out baby wipe and dabbing into the spakfilla and then dabbing it over the AT-AT head.

Ron"

To say I am loving this is probably the understatement of the week. He has also shared some great work on the 6" AT-AT Driver too. Once again I am including his awesome FB Galleries:

Panther is showing us some great molding!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, September 20 2017
"Last night was all about casting katana's and tiger claw swords. I now have 4 of each, which I'll paint up and fix the katana's into the sword rack and the tiger swords to a piece of wood each, which will then be mounted to the back wall, either side of the Shinto shrine.

You can see that Slice and Dice both approve of the tiger claws swords!"

He is really getting good at that!

Legion078 gets into the Battle Droid, literally!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, September 20 2017
"FialaFernbrugg and I talked about our next plans for future customs the other day. He told me it would be nice to see a well painted Battle Droid next! Commander Vaks was actually next on my list! Luckily I got enough time to work on both over the last couple days! This is going to be a bigger post so I will try to arrange everything as clear as possible."

Folks, aside from just a great custom project, L78 has created one of the best resources on this character and its offerings I have ever seen. It is definitely worth a read. Thanks for putting all this together and sharing it Legion078!

Talonreap has more custom Clones!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, September 20 2017
"Today I have a CW trooper again. He's an AT TE Gunner from the Season 3 arc 'Padawan Lost', and he's a gunner with the 104th at the Battle of Felucia. The base figure is an AT TE Gunner I got loose of Ebay a few years ago, the one without the green triangle variant on the helmet. I used Mechanicus Standard Grey, Mephiston Red, and Chaos White. I included a reference picture for him as well due to the character's obscurity. The eyes on the helmet were tough, but I'm satisfied enough for the moment."

I can't imagine painting that fine of a detail.

Foxtrot Delta shows us some Action Man Cardbacks...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, September 20 2017

"Last night the second coat of paint was applied to walls.

Using Blu Stuff I made molds of 2 weapons to be used as wall hangings, the swords will be used in the rack. Making up the mixture, poured it into the molds and waited for them to start to cure."

Looks good to me and his molded weapons fit the bill!

Ron Hembling adds flame effects to his latest dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 18 2017
"Hi All,

Have sprayed the AT-AT head and will weather it tonight. I have also done the smoke using Tamiya's matt black and medium grey spary cans until I was happy with the result.

The flames I have started and I used cheap battery powered flickering lights. I then used Woodland Scenics Water Effects to make the fisrt lot of flames and gave them a wash of red/orange and yellow.

I still need to add smoke around the base of the flames and also use the Water Effects to bulk up the flames.

Ron"

I am telling you Ron is really, really, really doing fantastic work with this one. I am including his FB Gallery of images:

Panther is almost there with his Arishikage Dio...

It is looking pretty rad to me!

Rezikai is back with new fan fiction...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 18 2017
"Riptide's crash site

It had been a few hours since the raid on his ship and Captain Barrax sat in his chair in the command center placed the mountain cave above his ship the Riptide going over the post battle report “Well people. We we're lucky at best.” the older calamari captain said I his throaty rough voice.

Around the small holotable in the middle of the command center sat the officers of the Riptide. Three Mon Calamari men and a Mon Calamari woman and a human male. Commander Shellis and Commander Vorm were two of the Mon Calamari men around the holographic image of the Riptide and mountain range with the frozen scene of the Tie fighters and Y-Wings dueling for air supremacy. Commander Shellis used the Captain's lead in statement to start the details of the report."

That is just the first couple of paragraphs to give you a taste of what you are in for.

Talonreap shows us more Custom Clones...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 18 2017
"For tonight's post I'll take a break from the CW customs. These are some ROTS clones, in particular the generic Clone Commander (red), 5th Fleet Security, and Shock Trooper.

The Clone Commander I repainted to be a Phase II version of Commander Gree without his camo, so I just copied his Phase I paint scheme onto this figure, by and large. I used Chaos White and Caliban Green."

There are two more after that to peruse too.

Ron Hembling starts the effects...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, September 17 2017
"Hi All,

The sanding is now complete and I didn't make it to the shops today so I'll pick up the paints I need tomorrow.

But until then I started on the smoke using a wire coat hanger and then gluing the cotton wool balls to it. I still need to add spary paint them to simulate smoke.

The smoke will also need plastic card added to it to simulate the hull being blown outwards.

For the fire as you can on the non stick paper it is still drying and once it does it will be completely clear. I used Woodland Scenics Water Effects and once it does become clear I will paint the inside of it to give a fire look and then add the flickering lights.

Once the smoke and fire is done it will allow my mate to add it to the dio whenever he wants.

Ron"

Oh yeah, this is gonna be epic! More from his Facebook Gallery:

Talonreap is back with some Clone Wars Customs...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, September 16 2017
"Hey folks! It's been a little while since I last posted, I've had a busy few weeks getting back to school and such. Here are some of my customs, as promised! They're my first ever Star Wars customs, I've done models and Games Workshop stuff in the past but this is my first time with 3.75 figures, and I hope you enjoy them. I have yet to figure out Imgur, so please bear with me as I'll just attach the photos to my posts. I have a few I did at the end of the summer and I'll post them over the next few days.

First up is Corporal Comet of the 104th Battalion, aka the Wolfpack. I used a standard Phase II clone trooper from the CW that I picked up courtesy of our friend tunghori, and I painted him using Citadel Mechanicus Standard Gray. I sealed the paint-job with Testor's Dull Coat. I haven't yet painted the Wolfpack emblem on his shoulder, I wasn't feeling bold enough, haha. The last picture has him next to Sinker for comparison. I appreciate any tips and feedback you guys have for me! Thanks and enjoy."

He also has one other one to peruse so scroll around. I like that bucket work!

Folks there are quite a few to peruse. I really like he head molding technique he showed on some of these.

Panther shows us his completed Cobra Stun...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, September 14 2017
"Exciting news!

I came home from work tonight to find the last missing piece of my Stun had arrived! The package was ripped open and yes the swivel canon had arrived. Now all the pieces have dried and been added to the Stun.

I hope you enjoy the final photos of the completely restored 1986 Cobra Stun, where I have casted two wheel trims and adapted two original broken flags with picture wire to restore this vehicle to its former glory.

I hope I have done it justice!"

It looks spot on perfect to me. His castings really turned out great. Make sure you scroll around too as he has updated us on his dojo since the last report too.

Legion078 does some very fine detail painting...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, September 13 2017
"Alright, here is just a small update of my Nikto Gunner before I move on to my next project...so today I got 5 minutes to also paint the buckles as FialaFernbrugg recommended. And here's the result:

I just used Citadel's Base "Leadbelcher" and applied it with a needle. I always use a needle to apply paint to very thin surfaces.

Hasbro gave us so many great updates of Jabba's scoundrels over the last decade and I can't wait to see more in TVC next year!"

Wow, just some small paint application in the right way makes a huge difference sometimes. I like it.

Using balsa wood for the wood trim around the room after spray painting the inside white and outside black. Normally I would have left this until further along but I couldn't progress with adding the wood until a coat of paint was added."

Ron Hembling is back with an ARC Trooper...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 11 2017
"Hi All,

Arc Trooper Fives was a commission piece for a client in the US.

Recipe

Fives - is a clone trooper Bandai figure which was built straight out of the box. I added the extra shin guards by using plastic card and puttyto build it up.

The Karma was made using pleather and then painting it and then adding the details. The holsters are from the Bandai Stormtrooper which were cut down and glued on with a little strap that is attached to them.

The pistols are from the Stormtrooper kit and were converted to the desired look. The straps across the back and front are pieces of thin strapping that were painted and cut to size and glued on. The ammo magazines at the front are from the Bandai Death trooper and teh black pouches at the back are from a Marvel Punisher figure.

The back pack was made using a part from the Bandai Sandtrooper back pack and pieces of plastic. The shoulder pads are made using strong thin cardboard and cut to shape and glued on.

Ron"

Just another great project from Ron!

The Boo is back with a Tydirium Update...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, September 11 2017
"Finally got some more paint in, so it's been a busy weekend. Waiting for the paint was holding up pretty much everything.

First up was doing a dry-fit to make sure the top and bottom halves still fit together after all the modifications.

After that, it was making sure that the Arduino and all the wiring would actually fit.

So after that was done, it was time to do the final wiring and make sure once everything was buttoned up that it would work ok. It went fine, had to rewire a couple of things, and the wires to feed the wing lights are exposed in Landing Mode, but there's no safe way to route them otherwise...

So, that leaves weathering on more of it, plus attaching the wing guns, and building the adjustable mount."

Sure is one awesome looking shuttle.

My Kind of Scum back after a hiatus...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, September 7 2017
"Wow. It has been a *really* long time since I posted new customs. Unfortunately, that is primarily because I haven't been working on customs much (due primarily to disappointment in the current Hasbro line and a lack of time in my personal life), but I have recently finished up several customs so I thought that it was time to share again... (I am trying out imgur, so I hope that everything works out alright...) I also have to credit the no-paint kitbash challenge here for kicking my butt back into customizing.

First up, a duo of droids from Hole in the Ground productions (Thanks, Raylen!) painted in (somewhat) film accurate colors"

And folks that is just the tip of the iceberg for quite a few other customs too. Check out the highlights:

So I did a little bit to the far left, as you look at it. Same procedure as the other walls. Spackle, sand repeat. Woodland scenics water colors, concrete, and a little brown. So Im going to do more details on the Han in carbonite display part. Its a bit too narrow, but WTH, its a display. You know?"

We know and it looks great to us!

But, I mean, What is it, 7 bucks? Big deal. Yeah, they are really nice, and I didn't even need the instructions. HOWEVER, it will be a bear to paint the solar panels, I can see it now. Other than that, they are pretty cool."
