Ron Hembling shows progress on his latest diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, November 30 2017
"Hi All,

More progress has been done on the Mech Suit dio, I have added the canopy using Woodland Scenics fine leaf Olive Green Foliage and the vines are from JOEFIX Studios.

The attack drone above the canopy was made using the Grimoire's helmet and I added two muzzle's from Bandai's DLT-19's a small 28mm shield underneath and the radar section from Bandai's R2-D2 kit.

The mech suit has been painted and glued to the base, I was going to do a camo pattern on the suit but once the khaki was painted on I really liked the plain subtle colour of it. I gave the suit a few washes of matt black and then used a model knife to add all the scratches and chips, the decals are from a an old Ma.k kit so I decided to use what was left on the suit.

The swamp section has had tape put around it so that I can use Woodland Scenics Realistic Water in layers to get a nice effect on it. I still have about 6-7 layers to go but doing it in thin layer helps it dry faster.

Ron"

Ron has sure made good use of various parts for this. It looks ultra realistic to me!

Ron Hembling shares progress on Mech Suit Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, November 28 2017
"Hi All,

Started on my 5" mech suit dio and

decided to have him in a swamp/jungle type environment
.

The base is high denisty foam cut to shape and then a knife was used to remove some of the base to have it have lower ground. The rocks are pieces of the foam I cut away and then ripped apart and glued on.

The tree so far has been made using foil and wrapping it up and then twisting it and the big branches and rootlswere done the same way then super glued on.

I then added tissue paper to the tree by using watered down PVA glue this helps the tissue to adhere to the foil and blend over the raised area's of the foil and once dry and painted it will look like bark.

Ron"

You can already tell this one is gonna be over the top good.

Jedi Minstrel is back!
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, November 27 2017
"My Friends and Fellow Customizers! It has been too long. Again, just trying to keep up with the kids and all. Anyway, here is a custom that was fun to do.

Wyl Sm'th was a Padawan around 3475 before the Battle of Yavin. He was apprenticed to Kae Vis, Jedi Master. Sm'th was a bit of a maverick but Vis was always on him about his antics. Fortunately, they were few enough and Vis did laugh...at most of them. As Sm'th grew older and more in tune with the force, Vis was very pleased with the young man. The true test was the resurgence of the Sith Empire. Lord Vrok, was about to land the killing blow to Vis when Sm'th saved him. Although, Vis lost his eye sight, he refused artificial eyes. He trusted in the Force. Sm'th continued on with his training and thanks to Vis, achieved Knighthood on his first attempt and with high accolades from the Council. Yet, he still could not pull any pranks on Kae Vis."

I definitely sense a theme here. It is good to see Minstrel back!

Ron Hembling finishes his BF2 Trooper...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, November 26 2017
"Hi All,

New figure from SW - BF2 Imperial Rocket Trooper 1:12 scale on Tatooine and fixed up old diorama.

Trooper - is from Bandai and built straight out of the box and I added plastic top the helmet for the crest and the jet pack also made using plastic card.

The breathing control/tubes are from the Hasbro Tie Fighter Pilot BS 6" figure. The MG-15 was made from parts of the Hasbro sandtrooper DLT-19 with the barrel shortened and reattached, the magazines are from the Bandai Sandtrooper backpack and the Scope is from the Bandai Stormtrooper pistol.

The rocket launcher was made from plastic card and tube except the handles which are from the Bandai DLT-19.

Base - was one I did a few years ago and got damaged in themove to the new house so I decided to fix it up and use it for this figure.

The walls are made from blue foam with spakfilla and sand mix added to the. The antenna's on the roof are from 3-3/4" SW figures and greeblies from the parts box, the white pole is a 1/1000 Star Trek Nacelle with a soft drink bottle lid for the base.

The pieces of scrap are old asthma bottles I get of the son once they are empty, the small crates are the lids that come with the asthma spray, the pipes are pieces of plastic tube and the grates are from plastic fly squatter, the dome looking scarp is from a deoderant can and the sand is a mix of spakfilla and sand

Ron"

I really like this one. So gotta get the new Battlefront II!

Panther shows new work on his Building...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, November 24 2017
"I've spent the past couple of days locked in a data centre so I have not had the chance to up date this feed so here is an update from a couple of days ago. So excuse the amount of pictures!

I found the time the other day to grab a paint brush and set to work on the pavement. Using a grey mix I went over the pavement slabs to even them out. Adding a touch of blue to grey paint and using a thin brush, I went around each slab and crack. While this was drying I did the same to cracks on the roof. A grey mixture was then used over the black and then around the side doors and window frame.

I mixed up burnt umber and red and applied that to the outer and interior walls, I was not fond of the brown brick effect it currently had.

Once it’s dry, I need to touch up the paint in places, work on the front entrance. I may add a couple of doors to it for effect but this is going to be a play set for my 7 year old nephew."

Can you imagine getting something like this under your tree at a 7 year old! I bet he gets the title of favorite uncle pretty quickly!

Ron Hembling starts an Imperial Rocket Trooper!
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, November 22 2017
"Hi All,

I took a few days off after the last dio build and have been playing Star Wars BF2 and have been really enjoying it. So saying that I decided I would start a 1:12 build of the Imperial Rocket Trooper from SW BF2.

I have used a Bandai Storm Trooper and covered the joints with black stockings and added the raised part in the middle of the helmet using plastic card and putty.

The rifle is a mix of Hasbro's BS Storm Trooper and Sandtrooper weapons eith parts also used from Bandai weapons and plastic card.

The rocket launcher so far is made using plastic tube and plastic strips and the trigger is is from a Bandai E-11 blaster and the tubes and chest controls are from the Hasbro BS Tie Pilot.

The base I'll be doing is a Tatooine one as that is the only time I play the Rocket Trooper as there is so many roof tops in the new game to hide on.

Ron"

Yepper, that new BF2 is rubbing off in a good way on Ron!

Ron Hembling starts a new project...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, November 22 2017
"Hi All,

Here is another little project I'm doing using a 1/144 Gundam Grimoire kit and making it into a mech suit. I have seen a few people do this and thought it was a great idea so thought I would give it a go.

The helmet is from a Figma racing driver which fits in perfectly with the mech suit, the whole figure is roughly 5" tall so it is about 1:16-1:15 scale and the weapon is from the Bandai Shore Trooper ans I removed the butt.

I haven't decided on a colour scheme yet but I will be having him hiding from a drone so the enemy don't catch up with him

Ron"

This is gonna rock!

Panther getting there on his Building Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, November 22 2017
"Over the weekend, I have applied a second coat of paint to the exterior and interior. This was quickly followed by a coat of dark burnt umber for the wood work, both floors and supports.

For the roof, I cut a piece of black foam board, removed the top layer of card and glued it to top of the roof. Texture of the black foam board, painted black works as both texture for the roof and another layer to child proof the set.
With the pavement I sprayed a coat of white, then while wet I sprayed a coat of black paint. Another coat of grey is needed to cover the blacker areas."

Now that is nice!

JDeck is back with a Stormtrooper Field Marshall...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, November 22 2017
"I made my "head canon" interpretation of a Stormtrooper Corps Field Marshall. Its just the officer from the KMART exclusive scan crew. With a GI JOE Flint head. I used the armor from the TVC ATAT commander. I painted the peices gloss black with a smoke clear coat. I wanted to make something reminiscent of the Waffen SS commanders black parade uniform."

I like it!

Science and Star Wars: Boba Fett's Amor Gets Torched...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, November 22 2017
"Hi Shawn,

Lucasfilm and Disney today released a new episode of Science and Star Wars on the science of Boba Fett. In this week’s video, the actor who plays Boba Fett, Daniel Logan, joins the show to test the bounty hunter’s armor against stabbing knives, a 2-watt blue laser diode and an arm-mounted flamethrower.

WATCH: Daniel Logan Uses Arm-Mounted Flamethrower To Test Strength of Boba Fett’s Armor

As the Star Wars universe’s most famous bounty hunter, Boba Fett has an armored chest plate, a back-mounted jet pack, wrist gauntlets housing a fiber cord whip, and a mounted blaster and a mini-flamethrower. Watch what happens when the actor who played young Boba Fett in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones tests a recreation of Boba Fett’s armor, a 5.5 Kevlar vest — whose tensile strength makes it 5x stronger than steel — against Star Wars-level weaponry."

Pretty cool show if you ask me!

Facebook, Fitbit, Industrial Light & Magic, Instagram, Twitter, Google and Lucasfilm Join Forces With littleBits to Inspire the Next Generation of Inventors at Droidathon...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, November 18 2017
"Kathleen Kennedy, Daisy Ridley, and Kelly Marie Tran Named As Judges For littleBits Inventor Competition Running November 15 - January 10

San Francisco, CA – November 15, 2017 – littleBits, the award-winning company that empowers kids to be inventors, joined Lucasfilm today to reveal never-before-seen Droids designed by technologists from top Bay Area innovators, all created in celebration of a global competition aimed to inspire the next generation of inventors and shed light on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).

Held at the Lucasfilm San Francisco campus, iconic Bay Area technology companies came together for the first-ever “Droidathon,” an event for kids from local organizations including the Black Girls CODE, Booker T. Washington School Community Center, The Boys & Girls Club, and the YMCA where inventors showcased their Droid creations and discussed their ideation and inspiration. Using the littleBits Droid Inventor Kit as a starting point, teams of engineers, programmers, and designers created innovative Droids using the core electronic building blocks together with 3D printing, craft material, soldering and programming. Initial photos from the event can be found here. More content will be available the morning of November 16.

The Droidathon kicked off the littleBits Competition: Droid Inventor Kit which invites kids, families, and Star Wars fans—residing in the US, UK, and Canada - to share their own unique Droid creations with the inventor community. The competition will run from November 15, 2017 to January 10, 2018. Fans and families will be able to submit their own Droid design creations, with qualifying submissions judged by Star Wars: The Last Jedi stars Daisy Ridley (the actress who portrays Rey in the current Star Wars trilogy) and Kelly Marie Tran (the actress who portrays Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi) alongside Ayah Bdeir (founder and CEO of littleBits) and Kathleen Kennedy (president of Lucasfilm).

“Star Wars has always expanded kids’ imaginations and inspired them to see what is possible,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “We’re excited to collaborate with all of these incredible companies and littleBits to showcase the power of STEAM in action and inspire the next generation of inventors.”

Both the Droidathon event and competition seek to inspire kids to explore technology and think of themselves as inventors: to accept challenges, make mistakes, persevere, and feel the triumph and pride of creating something with their own two hands. The littleBits Droid Inventor Kit is a gender-inclusive product that celebrates kids’ own self-expression and ingenuity, while showcasing the same characteristics of imagination, grit and invention that are embodied in the Star Wars franchise. For more information about how young inventors can get involved, visit www.littlebits.com/droidinventorkitcompetition.

“We believe the two best way to inspire kids about STEAM is through fun and role models. What
could be more fun and inspiring than seeing the world’s top innovators and role models creating the
weirdest Droids anyone has ever seen?” said Ayah Bdeir, founder and CEO with littleBits. “We’re thrilled to work together to inspire kids of all ages, backgrounds, genders and interests to become tomorrow's change-makers."

Ron Hembling back with a new Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, November 16 2017
"Hi All,

New Rogue One dio 1:144 scale.

U-wing - is from Bandai and is the 1/144 scale and built straight out of the box. I painted and weathered it using Vallejo paints.

Figures - the rebel troopers are from PEGASUS and are U.S Modern troops, they were in a desert cam and I just used Vallejo paints to repaint them.

The Stormtroopers are from the old AMT Hoth set and I did some sanding to remove the karma's and the back of the helmets and they were painted using Vallejo paints and then given a light wash of matt black.

Base - is from local hardware shop and the sande is a mix of spakfill/sand/Vallejo Iraqui Sand/PVA glue. The palm tree's I got from a bucket of pirates which had all these palm tree's so I removed the palms and the cut the trucks off the bases and then wrapped them in tissue paper and applied watered down PVA glue.

Once the tisse was dry I removed all the palms from the O-ring they were attached to and repainted them, I then painted the trunks and glued the palms back on to the truncks.

The grass tufts are from Army Painter and were perfect for this scale to simulate tall grass, the bushes are from Woodland Scenics and pulled apart and glued in place.

The patches of water left over by the high tide was done using Woodland Scenics and I added a little Vallejo Beige brown to the water once it was poured.

Ron"

Now that is one awesome diorama!

Panther gives us an update on his latest build...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, November 14 2017
"Last night first coat of paint applied. Black for the fire escape, light grey for the roof and a grey/burnt umber mix for the bricks.

I completed the outside and inside the ground floor it by the then it was late last night and I’d run out of the made up paint and was too tired to do the 1st floor. The outer steps I made up a medium grey and for the surrounding border.

This morning I had to quickly spray the fire escape because the paint I had used had been absorbed into the wood.
2nd coat needs applying then numerous washes to weather the exterior of the building. The floors need painting and a pavement still needs to be done."

I would say this is coming along nicely!

Ron Hembling creates a Falcon Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, November 14 2017
"Hi All,

New dio.

Recipe

Falcon - is from Bandai and is the mini Falcon. I built it straight out of the box and painted and weathered it using Vallejo paints.

Base - I got from the craft shop and the destroyed piece of hull was done using plastic card and plastic tube. I painted it with Vallejo's German Grey and then gave it a few washes of Vallejo's matt black and the dry brushed it using Vallejo's Medium grey.

The rust was done buy using a light brown and light red pastel chalks and making a powder with them and then mixing them together. Once they were mixed together I then used mixed it with a small amount of water and added it the hull section.

While it is drying I then use a almost dried baby wipe and dap away at the areas that I applied the rust mix until I was happy with the result.

Looks awesome to me!

JDeck is back with a REBELS Custom...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, November 13 2017
"This is my interpretation of Governor Pryce, from Star Wars Rebels. It is a common custom, but like every custom it is a little different. I used the Deena Shan body with Irina Spalko head. I made code cylinder and rank plaque using Miliput. I put a black wash on the face to highlight the cheekbones and facial features."

She looks spot on to me. Reminds me I have a lot of catching up to do on that particular show!

"Up next, my own imperial mad scientist... who yes, looks an awful lot like Admiral Screed. Specializing in cybernetics he experiments on imperial prisoners turning them into obedient cyborg super soldiers. Oh, and the other guy. In the latest Marvel Star Wars issue Ashes of Jedha part 1, we're introduced to Commander Kanchar, who is this crazy sinister mash of Captain Hook, Tee-hee and I'd say... Ernest Hemingway?"

Now there's a mix! I like the update!

Wow, that is one great speeder. Wouldn't you just love to see that in a vintage motiff box!

Halnarthax87 is back with more!
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, November 9 2017
"Whaddaya do with spare parts as a customizer? Why, make Saw Gerrera's Partisans of course. Mostly.

The Lasat is a combo of Beast and the Ralph Macquarie Chewbacca. In my head canon he's the one who executed all of Agent Kallus' squad.

And of course bald Saw. Redlettermedia once suggested Forest Whitaker would have been a better choice to play a Jedi than Samuel L. Jackson. Well, I can safely say that Samuel L Jackson probably would have made a better Saw Gerrera than Forest Whitaker.

And yes... in my head canon, Saw Gerrera slices off imperial prisoners' heads with a buzz saw called Gerrera's saw. Because, you know, he's a terrorist."

They all look great to me.

Stars Wars & Artificial Intelligence: How Close Is Real-Life Science to C-3PO?
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, November 9 2017
"Lucasfilm and Disney released a new episode Science and Star Wars on the science of Artificial Intelligence. In this week’s video, C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels joins researchers in the lab to explore how close real-world science has come to A.I. in the fields of medicine, education and technology.

Droids that run a fictional version of A.I. are some of the most memorable characters in Star Wars. From K-2SO to AP-5, A.I. is no longer science fiction fantasy, but something that collaborates with and augments human intelligence.

The episode tackles:
How a computer program can take all the dialogue from all 10 Star Wars films to decipher characteristics about C-3PO. The conclusion? C-3PO is “a friendly fellow, very tentative, but overall exquisitely agreeable.”

How A.I. helps doctors more accurately diagnose patients and teachers tailor lessons to ensure kids get the most out of their education.

How the visually impaired are aided with an app that targets location and beacons in the environment, helping them to move around in the real world."

Panther updates us on his latest diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, November 7 2017
"Last night I started working on the fire escape. Using bolsa wood for the base of the platform, then cutting strips of bamboo cans of 3.5” and placing them equal spacing along the platform. Once in place I cut two strips of bolsa wood to act as a railing, making sure the wholes where lined up and slotted the bamboo bars into the railings.

As you can see it slots into place perfectly. I now need to add a couple of braces under the platform to brace it against the wall, sand it down and glue all the pieces into place."

Looks like everything is shaping up nicely.

rag & bone X Star Wars...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, November 7 2017
"November 6, 2017: rag & bone is proud to unveil a new limited edition collaboration with Disney to coincide with the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

The capsule collection will offer a selection of iconic rag & bone styles twisted with timeless Star Wars references. Contrasting colorways and hidden details represent the balance between good and evil in the saga depicting the two sides of the Force - the light side and the dark side, the opposing factions of the Galactic Empire and Rebel Alliance, or the conflict between the Resistance and the First Order.

On the collection, Rag & Bone’s Chief Executive Marcus Wainwright said, “I have always been a huge fan of Star Wars and it has been awesome to create a collection which coincides not only with the launch of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but also with the 40th anniversary of the franchise. Our approach was really to re-imagine some of our favorite rag & bone pieces while taking influence from some of our most memorable moments of past and present Star Wars films.”

The special edition apparel and accessories styles range from $95-$1295; due to be released in batches in select rag & bone stores and www.rag-bone.com and select pieces will also be available on the newly relaunched ShopDisney.com site from December 1, 2017."

Ron Hembling is back with a Clonetrooper Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, November 6 2017
"Hi All,

Clone Trooper Fordo was a commission for a friend in the States.

He wanted a mix of the cartoon and newer show mixed together and he also didn't want a lot of battle damage done to him.

Recipe

Trooper - is from Bandai and is built straight out of the box, the range finder on the helmet was made using plastic rod and a thick piece of plastic.

The shoulder pads were made using cardboard and thin plastic card and the ammo pouch is from a Hasbro Sandtrooper. The back pack was made using pieces from a Bandai Sand trooper, 1/35 scale parts and plastic card.

The Karma was from the Bandai Shore Trooper kit and the straps are pieces of elastic and the holsters were made from teh Bandai Storm Trooper kit.

The pistols were made using the pistols and the DLT-19 rifle from the Bandai Storm Trooper kit and the rocket on the left arm was made from pieces of plastic.

Base - is the one I used for my batman photo's and was made using foam, plastic rod and the ground work is a mix of sand and spakfilla

Ron"

What can I say that I haven't said about Ron's work. Its just top notch for every project he works on.

A radical new and desperate design by Sienar Fleet Systems. The Echelon was incredibly fast and far more manouverable then even the TIE Interceptor. The weapons system was improved. The power consumption was very high and led to overheating.

Design made by unusualsuspex.

Next, I need to build the fire escape, front and side steps and then sidewalk. Not forgetting the glue and paint!"
