Ron Hembling goes Old School Batman one more time...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, October 31 2017
"Hi All,

The Batboat was a commission for the same friend that I did the Batmobile for.

The Batboat is from Polar Lights and was built straight out of the box and was painted with Vallejo and Army Painter paints.

The base is high density foam and I covered it and made the waves using spakfilla, once dry I then painted it with Vallejo Dark Green and once dry I dry brushed the waves white.

When the dry brushing was dry I then used Woodland Scenics Realistic Water and covered the water with it. Once the Realistic Water was dry I then used Woodland Scenics Water Effects and dapped it over the waves to added more depth to the waves.

Ron"

Water Effects for the win!

Panther shows new work on his latest diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Monday, October 30 2017
"I found a little time this afternoon to work on the floors again. Starting with creating the first floor by sticking balsa wood onto a sheet of foam board. Four beams at 7.1 inch tall, to which where glued to the each corner of the ground floor and then nailed down. Afterwards ground floor was then glued and nailed onto the three foundation beams. The first floor was then glued and nailed into position. Next I will start the roof before any painting and gluing all pieces into place."

Camo Deafie is back!
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, October 29 2017
"Built this from the 1995 MPC rerelease of their TIE Interceptorr.. using a cut down pill bottle, some model kit pieces, a lot of Evergreen plastic product...

Hand Painted Model Master Gunship Gray on details and viewport frame, then added Tamita Flat Red acrylic for the Blood Stripes akin to the 181st Squadron with the First Order style flat black paint job.

What is this ship? A custom TIE Multirole fighter with hyperdrive, shield generator, torpedo launcher kit and a Special Forces paint job during the Imperial Remnant era before The First Order rose to power. As the Imperial Remnant no longer had the defense budget and shipyards producing TIEs by the million, they were forced to cannibalize pieces and bits, as well as make the TIE fighters more durable and powerful for defensive missions in the Unknown Region against pirates and other organizations."

Folks, wait till you see how detailed the build process this was for this custom TIE! I mean wow! It is always great to see new work from Camo Deafie.

Darth Sinister gunning for Dad of the Year Title...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, October 28 2017
"Update on the parts...

Added some foam armor to the store-bought jumpsuit. It's held on with Velcro and hand painted.

Foam gun belt. Double holsters with tie-downs and two custom painted dollar tree blasters. They flash a red light and make a sound that's sounds like a blaster shot.

3 dollar wal-mart laser sword was perfect for the DarkSaber after I tweeked it.

Foam strap-on Jetpack. Hand painted, sink drain and some plumbing fittings for the rocket booster. Outdoor clipping lashing straps from wal-mart secure the pack. This project cost me about 10 bucks.

Group pic 1 sword off. Group pic 2 sword on.

I've got a happy little girl! 1 weeks work. We'll do some dressed up pics too."

Folks hands down this is one of the coolest projects I have seen in a bit. Talk about turning some cheap dollar store stuff into some customized amazing items! Be sure to scroll around and see the smile on his daughter's face!

Ron Hembling makes it look real...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, October 28 2017
"Hi All,

I have completed all the ground work for the Endor dio I'm doing for a friend I just wanted to get the swamp area looking right before I started on the scout and speeder.

The swamp area was done using Woodland Scenics Realistic water and the algea was done using the loose pieces of Woodland Scenics Fine Leaf Foliage Olive Green.

While the Realistic Water was still wet I dropped the Fine Leaf Foliage into the Water and it absorbs the Water and sinks a little giving that algea look to it.

Next up will be the Scout and Speeder.

Ron"

His vegetation works looks right out of the forest!

Panther adds to his Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, October 28 2017
"Last night, I got on with developing the ground the floor, using a balsa wood block strips for the beams with flat sheets laid on top, then made it look like floor boards. Over the weekend I will be nailing the together, use a wire brush to add wood lines and remove any splinters then add 4 beams on each corner to which I will be putting the next floor on. To tidy up the back so my nephew doesn't get underneath floor I have cut a strip of foam board."

Looking good!

Ron Hembling shares a Batman Diorama...
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, October 27 2017
"Hi All,

Here are the usual pics and also recipe for the Batmobile.

Recipe

Batmobile - is from Polar Lights and was built straight out of the box with no problems at all a very crisp kit with a little flash here and there on the kit. The decals were the worse part but thank to my mate I was able to get some Mr Mark Softner solution to fix them up.

Base - is high density foam and I used a small sandstone a tapped it over the base to simulate a tarred road. The ground was done with a mix of sand and spakfilla and once dry was painted and then the trees/shrubs/dead branches are from Woodland Scenics-Fine leaf foliage.

The sign and fence are done using balsa wood and the writing was done using a plastic stencil, the small grass tufts are from Army Builder.

Ron"

I like it. Old school.

New dio work from Panther...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, October 26 2017
"Last night I completed marking out the internal brick work to match the external. Then I cut a single piece of foam board to be the foundation of the raised ground floor, which will be accomplished using balsa wood for the floor.

Because I’m an awesome uncle I even went out and purchased a Spider-Man Homecoming figure which will accompany this set."

Sure wish he was my uncle. Talk about one great Christmas Present!

A new update from Panther...
-- Posted by Tamer on Wednesday, October 25 2017
"Last night I cracked on with preparing the external brick work. Each one is half an inch in height and an inch in length, drawn onto surface before been scored. After all three external wall were marked, the window and doors were cut out.

Next I’ll be doing the same for the internal walls before adding in the floors and roof."

That is gonna be one happy kid for Christmas!

Darth Sinister works some Halloween Magic...
-- Posted by Tamer on Tuesday, October 24 2017
"My oldest girl (I have three) decided for Halloween she wanted to be Sabine Wren from Rebels. Of coarse she decided this at the last minute, so my wifey ordered the costume from amazon. She just got it last week and was underwhelmed. Especially with the mask. It's just a one sided plastic mask with a band to hold it on.

I couldn't have that, so I worked on it for a day this weekend and she's happy with the results. It's not perfect, but for one day I think we couldn't get any better. I used some craft and EVA foam and a dollar tree knight helmet... glue, duck and 3m tape and a paint job. What do y'all think?"

Magic, thats what I think!

Ron is on an Endor Kick...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, October 22 2017
"Hi All,

Here is some work on a Endor dio I've been doing for a mate which will have a speeder and scout on once finished..

The base is a cheap picture frame and I built the ground up using high density foam. The foam was then covered with a mix of spakfilla and sand and will it was still drying I attached the trees.

The moss is a mix of spakfilla/sand/paint and applied to the trees, The ground work was covered with a mix of dirt/sand/small sticks/lichen moss, ground leaves.

Once the ground work was dry it was then given severall washes of Vallejo chocolate brown. I then used plants from JOEFIX Studio and ferns from the local craft shop and I also used static grass.

I wanted a swampy area for this base so I cut some clear plastic and attached it with tape and plasticine to stop any leakage.

I then poured Woodland Scenics Realistic Water in the area, this will take a few days to completely dry and will shrink a little so I will need to top is up once dry.

Ron"

Just completed this one last night.

Recipe

Trooper - is from Bandai and is 1:6 scale, I built it straight out of the box and was weathered using Vallejo and Army Painter paints and Pastel Chalks.

The rifle was given a sling made using a strip og leather and o-rings and a buckle and clip from some 1:6 parts I had in my bits box.

The pauldron and ammo pouch are from a Sideshow Toys Sandtrooper and the right hand holding the E-11 is also from the Sideshow Sandtooper and I removed the armour plating and swapped it out for Bandai one that came with the kit.

JDeck builds the Bandai Grievous...
-- Posted by Tamer on Sunday, October 22 2017
"Alright. Its been a while since I've posted anything. However I have been lurking on a daily basis, and have been enjoying everyone's awesome work.

So I finally got around to building the Bandai 1/12 General Grevious. Its a very intricate kit. It has a lot of small parts that break easily. Actually in the instructions it literally says do not break, well I saw that after I broke it. But i fixed it good as new. This kit was kind of a pain in the neck to build, but its pretty freggin awesome though. His gits are cast in brown plastic, so i painted that using a combination flesh and red paint mixtures. Of course you cant even see it hardly, so kind of a waste of time really. Some of the parts fall off, so I will just glue them down. However first I will break it down a little so I can weather it.

There are a few different options. Mainly the arms. You have the option of either the two arm or four arm configuration. Also he comes with an articulated plastic cape, I personally do not like articulated capes.

So I'm going to break it down a little, wash it, and weather him soon."

It was great to see JDeck back and that Grievous is fantastic!

"Finished a revised giant mouse droid that should be a bit more accurate. It's got six POAs; four concealed wheels under the base and a telescoping neck with ball-jointed head. I went easy on the greeblies and left off a few doodads -- Actually struggled with adding the back wire, as exposed cables hanging everywhere seems like a shoddy design to me. WIP shots to follow."

And work in progress shots he has shown! Very nice and man was it great to see all of the pieces of this that came together and see him back!

Bronxstalker unhinges my jaw!
-- Posted by Tamer on Friday, October 20 2017
"Ok, I'm finally done with my other project, Lord Starkiller in his Sith stalker outfit.I took forever to complete him, because I started the sculpting on him, but kept putting him to the side as I completed other projects.

He's made from a Black Series Kylo Ren, and everything but the legs and hands were dremeled down to a skeletal frame, and re-sculpted over. The helmet was an Iron Man helmet, mostly dremeled down and re-sculpted. The light saber hilts were molded and casted so I can make more for other projects.

Oh, and the should pads are attached to straps, so his articulation isn't hinder too much.I hope you enjoy viewing as much as I enjoyed making."

Wow, that is one awesome custom action figure!

"Hi All,

The Realistic Water arrived so I have poured it into the area of the Endor Assault dio and will take pics tomorrow once it dries. So until then here is another commission Endor dio I'm doing.

So far the trunks I got from the local bushland and then cut to size, the base ground work so far is done using high density foam.

The scout/speeder are from Hasbro and I had to totally take him apart so I could get a good pose with him as he's legs and arms were all bent.

Have you seen Science and Star Wars?
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, October 19 2017
"Lucasfilm and Disney have released the fourth episode of Science and Star Wars, the popular digital series that answers how close real-world science has come to our favorite Star Wars technology. Today’s episode explores Hover Vehicle Technology.

The team is joined by Diana Williams of Lucasfilm Story Group -- one of the four people responsible for determining all Star Wars canon -- to help construct (and test drive) an actual human-sized land speeder made out of plywood, cardboard and leaf blowers.

WATCH: Science and Star Wars Recreates a ‘Land Speeder’ Using Cardboard & Two Leaf Blowers

With modern science, there are two major ways engineers can replicate ‘speeders’ from the Star Wars films and pop culture: 1) through the use of compressed air to “hover” hardware; and 2) the use of repellent magnetic forces to levitate objects for a faster, smoother ride. Both are discussed by experts in their respective fields, including USC professor of aeronautical engineering David Barnhart and magnetoelectronics expert Kevin Roche.

Over the course of the next six episodes, Science and Star Wars will continue to explore science fantasy, science fact, and the gray area in between, Tuesdays on the official Star Wars Facebook page."

"Hi All,

I while I'm waiting for glue and paint to dry on other pieces I am doing I decided to start making two small viginettes for a Batman and Superman I have had for a while.

This first one is of Batman and he is from the DC Icons series. When painting him I decided to give him a grey/black look as I love the gritty look to the colours.

I also removed the plastic cape and replaced it with a cloth one and added wiring to the sides of the cape.

Here is Superman and he also is from the DC icons series.

I removed the plastic cape and as like Batman replaced it with a cloth one and added wiring to the sides.

The base is still a WIP and so far it has a base from a Mezco Trek Sulu and I used high density foam for the debri and a mix of sand/spakfilla/paint for the dirt."

Ron Hembling updates us on his Endor Dio too...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, October 12 2017
"Hi All,

have also done some more work on the Endor dio.

The rocks were given their last wash of beige brown and once dry I used a mix of sand/spakfilla/paint to make the moss and then I used a brush to apply it to the trees and rocks.

The destroyed speeder is from Hasbro which I have had in the spare part bix for ages. I used a pair of snippers to cut it up and also to make the damaged sctions of the speeder.

Next up I will paint and weather the speeder and start adding vegetation.

Ron"

He is sure doing great on both projects!

I also added spider webs and thanks to Roger Bowen over on my FB page for suggesting the Halloween spider webs but the ones I found were really thick so I used cotton wool intsead.

Ron"

Fiala Fernbrugg reviews the Bandai TIE Striker...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, October 7 2017
"TIE Striker

The TIE/sk x1 experimental air superiority fighter, also known as the TIE/sk atmospheric fighter or simply the TIE striker, was a streamlined variant of the TIE line starfighters used by the Galactic Empire, most notably during the Battle of Scarif. Specialized for in-atmosphere missions, the atmospheric fighter was identifiable by its horizontal high-speed wings and large central pod. Largely because of its specialization for such missions, it is one of the few TIE lines to be used by the Imperial Army as well as the Imperial Navy.
[wookieepedia: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/TIE/sk_x1_experimental_air_superiority_fighter]

manufacturer: Bandai
scale: 1/72
release date: 2017
length: 240mm (9,45")
wing span: 165mm (6,5")
retail price: 30€

The kit is not available in europe. I bought the kit on amazon from an US retailer (free shipping!).

The kit comes in a shiny black box with a very nice artwork on it. The quality of the parts is phenomenal. A TIE pilot figure and standing silhouette figure (for size comparison) are included. The kit includes also a nice display stand. The wings are movable."

And that is just the start of his review. Look for it in our Imperial Review Section soon!

Ron Hembling works on his Endor Dio too...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, October 7 2017
"Hi All,

While the moss is drying on the boulder chase dio I started doing more work to the Endor Assualt dio.

I have added the edges by using balsa wood and then I used aluminium foil to make the rock area's by crumpling the foil then gluing in place.

Once I had completed adding the rocks I then used a mix of spakfilla/sand/PVA glue/sand and Vallejo Chocolate Brown for the first part of the ground work I then applied it to the base using a damp medium brush.

Once the mix was applied and was still wet I applied the top part of the ground work using a mix of sand/static grass/ diced dry leaves/diced lichen moss and small clumps of railway clump bushes. Once this mix was applied I then softly pressed the mix into the first applied mix.

Ron"

I am wondering if Ron got any sleep last night after seeing all the wonderful work on his latest three dios!

Ron Hembling is back with two new updates...
-- Posted by Tamer on Saturday, October 7 2017
"Hi All,

I have started adding the first layer of moss to the boulder chase dio.

I let the first layer dry for a few days and once dry I peeled them of the non stick baking paper and glued them on using PVA glue. I will leave these to dry for 12 hours before applying the last part of the moss.

Ron and

Hi All,

These mini diorama's will be of WW2 German's. Those that didn't know my first passion was building and making WW2 German dio's before I started into the SciFi world.

I have had these figures for about 5 yrs and thought it would be cool to get my WW2 military juices flowing again.

The figures are a combo of Ultimate Soldier figures and Forces of Valor figures. I mixed and matched them to how I wanted them to look and glued their joints and now I just need to fill the joints in paint them up and make mini dio's for them.

Ron"

"Last night the brick work was given a coat of grey. While this was drying I went to work highlighting the stone work, sarcophagus and tablet/door. Using a black wash over the sarcophagus and tablet/door and then a light grey wash to pick out the details. A dark grey for the cracks in the floor. I will be doing the same with the stone walls tonight."

And folks that is just one of about three new updates on this. It is so cool to see how he is pulling this all together!

It uses a Jawa head from TBS Jawa 2-pack. The face is a separate piece that pops off, then I drilled out the inside."

Ron Hembling updates us on his Indy Dio...
-- Posted by Tamer on Thursday, October 5 2017
"Hi All,

More progress on the Boulder Chase dio.

I have added the dirt/debri to the floor by mixing potty mix and dirt then applying it with PVA glue.

I have also made a few moss pieces by getting a piece of baking paper and then applying PVA glue then using fine railway model clumps and sprinkling it over the glue. Once dry I will be able to just peel the pieces of and then apply them to the dio.

Ron"

It is really running now! How did you like that pun?

Panther shares more work on his Crypt Dio...

"Last night was spent weathering the wall and adding more detail to them before applying the first coat of paint, a combination of a light grey with a touch of blue. Applied evenly over the floor tiles, sarcophagus, lid and tablet. This has been left to dry before a light coat of a light grey sprayed over these areas before diving out the door this morning."

He is finishing this one up in record time too.

I have started on another project while waiting for spakfilla and paint to dry on the boulder dio.

This dio will depict three Stormtroopers fighting on the moon of Endor, the trunks are a branch I found at my daughter's schoold. I cut it to length and then treated it Methylated Spirits and left in in the sun to dry out.

Ron"

He is already off to a great start.

Once all the glue has dried, the next job will be using hot glue and applying it to around the sides of the river sheet and trimming off the excess and then painting the base. Almost ready for my Tiger Force Joes to take their positions to defend their outpost."

The realism in this one is just amazing folks.
