#Buildingtoysformyson Project: Outlaws ship "Kalidor Shadow"
« on: April 29, 2015, 03:24:49 AM »
Question:

For my #Buildingtoysformyson project I'm currently creating an own Star Wars story line. Every night, when I take my son to bed, I make up a new part of the story I'm creating.
The story is about a 5 headed outlaw gang which takes most of their jobs from an upper-class Chagrian. The gang consists of a Chiss leader and pilot, a Rodian gunner, a human girl engineer, a Devaronian brute and a Mirialan fighting specialist. (The figures are already done, but they do not have a name yet)
In the story I'm telling this gang moves around in a small space ship. It is bigger than a fighter, but smaller than a small freighter. I will post some pictures soon, I hope, but my question now is; What would be a good coloring theme for a outlaw gang space ship?
I already discovered that red is the color of the republic, and they are definitely not republic... unless if they pay enough...
Could anyone advise me on this one?

Yesterday I found some time to take some pictures of the unpainted and unfinished ship. There are still some parts to be added to this ship.
Could someone please think with me and suggest a theme color?
Also, I can't come up with a name for this ship... I would like to call it something legendary as "Millennium Falcon". Is there anyone on this forum who could help me out on that one?

And finally the crew of this ship! The Chiss gang leader and pilot of the ship, the Rodian gunner, the Human girl engineer, the Devaronian brute, the Mirialan fighting specialist and the upper-class Chagrian for whom this gang mostly do there shady chores...

These guys and girl also still need names... so please can someone help me out on naming this ship, and these figures?

Very nice. Off to share in the regular places!

I have always been partial to grey and blue or grey and red when it comes to ships of this nature. I always thought some sort of nose artwork roughed em up a bit too.

I will try to think more on a fitting name today.

What a great concept! I'm sure your son will have fun with this.  The Separatists seemed to use some blue. I agree with Tamer about gray, but what about some dark green and tan or brown accents?

Names are challenging. I'll think about it.

Very cool ship and the characters are great.
As far as paint suggestions, what I do is figure out the ship's role, like transport, patrol, ect. then Google image modern or ww2 era ships with the same role and look around. Personally I'd paint it a reddish brown or "hull red" with oil streaks and weathering. Or light grey and hull red, with heavy weathering and damage.
With the name you could just pick two random words. Sometimes foreign words. Just off the top of my head The "Tempest Fury",  "sigma dawn" or "obsidian shadow" something like that.
With the character names a good trick is to use a derivative of a mythological  Norse Roman or greek gods/goddesses.  Wikipedia has lists of god names. For the last name you could use the name of some European town. Example: Vali Hoxter. Freyer Deensen. Tig Braas. Lif Misto. Braccus Tori. Sometimes you have to add or subtract letters to make it work but I use this method frequently the possibilities are endless.
Good luck.

Thank you for your suggestion. The ship is going to be grey for sure, but the other color? Blue is a nice suggestion... red will not be an option. I understood that red is a Republic color, and these guys are no Republic guys!

Thank you for the compliment, my son really loves it big time! He's already playing with it, and this ship has already made a lot of airmiles ;)
Dark Green is a nice suggestion to! But I think the ship will look to "friendly". I myself see the color green as it represents the tree huggers of this world... not something I want this ship to have as imago. Tan and Brown could work...

And thank you for the color suggestions! The weathering would not really fit in to the #Buildingtoysformyson line, but the idea is great!
The hull red is a very good suggestion, but like mentioned before, the red would be a Republic color... The ship will be grey, but it needs some other color elements that makes it something intimidating.

Thank you so much for the names! The names of the characters will certainly be used! I will change them a little bit, but you put me on the right track on those!
The names of the ship are also awesome!
I think I would like to go to something with "Bat" in it... something like "Tempest Bat"?
I'm not sure about that one...

So if there is anyone else with name suggestions? Please let me know!

This is the ship completely built!:

Looks good to me! With the name you wanted something with bat meybe "bat scream" or "screeching bat" or you could replace bat with mynock its sort of a space bat. "The Mynock's Fury" "The Mynock's Doom" or something whatever works.

I think the colours would work and if they don't you can always repaint it.

I think I would go yellow before brown and tan, but I have never been  partial to those two colors on spaceships. I like em on ground vehicles ok though. Go figure. We are making this clear as mud ain't we?  ???

Thank you all for your reactions... really appreciate it!

The first layer of paint is now applied to the ship... medium grey...
The 3 wings where firstly painted black, like a T.I.E. but I don't like that... they are going to be gray to...

I'm still doubting about the lining... would it be yellow or should I go with a all grey theme... something like the Millennium Falcon?

I'm getting crazy about this decision!

Go with whatever your comfortable with. Ya know. Light or medium grey is always a safe bet but do whatever your vision is for the project.  If you paint it yellow, red black, blue whatever you could just paint a stripe across the nose or the wing tips or something subtle like that. A lot of times I'll use a scrap piece
of material come up with a design or pattern. Then if I'm happy I'll apply it to my project.

Okay! I made the decision!
Last night I've been busy with painting the details and several shades of grey... (a little les than 50  ;))

The exterior of the ship is nearly done... what do you guys think about it?
(I hope to make better pictures with daylight later on)

Well I know it sure looks good on the front page. I hinted at one small thing, but that is probably too cliche.
