Its too bad they can't talk about it outside of celebration. I always thought the time between EPs. III & IV would be the most interesting. The expansion of the galactic empire and the formation of the rebel alliance. It will be pretty cool.

Anyone find a new clip of this on YouTube? I think they are taking them down faster than they are going up.

Nice. The chatter in the end sounds pretty gritty. I'm not saying I'm hoping for a Game of Thrones/The Walking Dead type of movie, far from it, but I hope it will be geared more towards the OT generation of fans. TESB is quite dark, as is ROTJ up until the BoE, without getting gory. I hope this movie will show the dedication and fierce commitment the Rebellion had to try and restore freedom to the galaxy.

Slightly off topic: please, please, please let them make a Republic Commando movie in this Anthology series :D

A bit more information on Rogue One.

http://www.flickeringmyth.com/2015/06/rumoured-details-on-star-wars-anthology-rogue-one.html

Back in April during Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm and director Gareth Edwards peeled back the curtain slightly on the first Star Wars spinoff movie, Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, by showing a short teaser, as well as releasing a very brief official synopsis for the film:

“A band of resistance fighters unite for a daring mission to steal the Death Star plans in Star Wars anthology film Rogue One.”

Well, with production set to get underway this summer, Joblo is reporting a few possible details about the film – although given what was revealed at Celebration, there’s not really anthing we wouldn’t expect to see anyway…

- Definitely set during the “Dark Time” of the Empire (between Episodes III and IV)
- Being coined as “darker and grittier” than any other Star Wars film to date
- The film seems to be aiming to be much like an old school war film; Think Hamburger Hill meets Star Wars
- All the Jedi are said to be in hiding; expect this story to leave them in the background
- Stormtroopers have same armor as they do in the original films (i.e. episodes IV – VI)
- Lots of alien life forms, Mon Calamari among them
- New droids and aliens will be introduced. Kind of a no-brainer, but just so you know it’s not just a bunch of rebels
- AT-ATs, X-Wings, Y-Wings, AT-STs are said to be present.
- Implied that some of the film will take place on Yavin-4; a lot of armies in the jungle and various battlefield locations
- Looks like a new droid will be part of the band of rebels attempting to steal the Death Star plans
- Felicity Jones is seen dressed as a rebel soldier ready for battle; expect her to get her hands dirty in this one

Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One is set for release on December 16th, 2016, with a cast that so far includes Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler), Diego Luna (Elysium) and Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises).

Definitely looking forward to the AT-ATs, X-wings, Y-wings and AT-STs. It'll be great to see the Mon Calamari, and I'm excited to see the return of the original Stormtrooper armor and (possibly) Yavin IV.

Thoughts?

They are a combo of armors, seems it has some parts from OT, some completely new. For example Sandtrooper diamond knee pad on one trooper, end caps gray on thermal detonators, different cod pieces (seems they might come from a Disney suit). Doesn't look too bad so far. Curious about the helmet too.

The weapons look cool. Its strange they painted the lander matte black, battleship grey looked good on shuttle tyderium.

I just got send some new press material for Rogue One:

“ROGUE ONE”—THE DARING MISSION HAS BEGUN

Resistance Fighters Unite to Steal Plans for Death Star

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (August 15, 2015)—Lucasfilm announced today that their first film in the new standalone Star Wars stories series, “Rogue One,” has begun principal photography. Gareth Edwards (“Godzilla,” “Monsters”) is directing “Rogue One,” which tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star. The film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and is slated for a December 16, 2016 release.

The filmmakers have assembled a stellar cast, including Felicity Jones, nominated for an Academy Award® for her leading role in “The Theory of Everything”; Diego Luna, who was featured in 2008’s Oscar®-winning “Milk” and the critically acclaimed “Killing Them Softly”; Ben Mendelsohn, recently nominated for an Emmy® for his leading role in “Bloodline” and co-starring  in the upcoming “Mississippi Grind”; Donnie Yen, Hong Kong action star and martial artist who starred in “Ip Man” and “Blade II”; Jiang Wen, who co-wrote, produced , directed and starred in the award-winning “Let the Bullets Fly” and “Devils on the Doorstep”; Forest Whitaker, recently featured in the critically-acclaimed Lee Daniels’ “The Butler” and winner of an Academy Award® for his leading role in 2006’s “The Last King of Scotland; Mads Mikkelsen, who starred in “The Hunt” and was the memorable villain from 2006’s “Casino Royale”;  Alan Tudyk,  who plays a performance-capture character in “Rogue One,” stars in the soon-to-be-released “Con Man” series and “Trumbo,” which releases this November; and Riz Ahmed, who was recently featured in “Nightcrawler” and starred in the BAFTA-winning film “Four Lions.”

“‘Rogue One’ takes place before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and will be a departure from the saga films but have elements that are familiar to the Star Wars universe,” says Kathleen Kennedy. “It goes into new territory, exploring the galactic struggle from a ground-war perspective while maintaining that essential Star Wars feel that fans have come to know. Gareth is such an innovative director and I’m so excited to be working with him and the extraordinary ensemble cast he’s selected for ‘Rogue One.’”

Veteran ILM visual effects supervisor John Knoll, who shares a long history with the Star Wars movies, dating back to the mid-1990s, originated the idea for the movie. Allison Shearmur (“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,” “Cinderella”), John Knoll, Simon Emanuel (“The Dark Knight Rises,” “Fast & Furious 6”) and Jason McGatlin (“Tintin,” “War of the Worlds”) are executive producers. Kiri Hart and John Swartz (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) are co-producers.

To create the lived-in, realistic feel of “Rogue One,” Edwards chose Greig Fraser (“Zero Dark Thirty,” “Foxcatcher”) to be his director of photography and Neil Corbould (“Black Hawk Down,” “Gladiator,” “Saving Private Ryan”) to be his special effects supervisor.  Star Wars and Lucasfilm veteran Doug Chiang (“Star Wars: Episodes I-II,” “Forrest Gump”) and Neil Lamont (supervising art director for the “Harry Potter” series, “Edge of Tomorrow”) will be the production designers. Additional crew members will include stunt coordinator Rob Inch (“World War Z,” Marvel’s “Captain America: The First Avenger”), creature effects supervisor Neal Scanlan (“Prometheus”) and co-costume designers Dave Crossman (costume supervisor for the “Harry Potter” series, “Saving Private Ryan”) and Glyn Dillon (costume concept artist for “Kingsman: The Secret Service,” “Jupiter Ascending”).

Maintain the Star Wars feel? The image gives no star wars vibe, except for the backpack in the lower right (clearly the same as they used on Endor in ep. VI), and the big engines in the back, it looks very post apocalyptic. All the humans don't help, the empire is human superiorist, there should always be some aliens rebelling. Though notice how under disney the empire suddenly isn't racist, well speciesist? Granted this is one picture, hopefully it will look better all together, but all 8 of the aforementioned actors are pictured, and human (not to mention not Bothan). Even a droid would promote a star wars feel in their cast. Just doesn't feel right with what we've been shown.

I have to admit I thought the same thing. There is no way one would get the movie Star Wars out of that image.
