Upgrading to new forums...
« on: August 17, 2014, 04:59:39 PM »
It shouldn't affect anything here other than perhaps a style change as 2.0 doesn't have our current theme called blue roses.

I have been assured all of our content that has been posted here will not change. So, if you see a new look its just upgrading the forums to better software and security.

Folks have been having a hard time registering and some of the 1.19 mod packages were interfering. I just wanted to send out word.

Folks, we have upgraded to 2.0 successfully and everything has loaded successfully.

It will take us a bit of time to get it back to our dark look, but my smf team is on it.

You will have to trust me from the way it was yesterday this is a huge improvement.

I have an smf forum team just for the forums here now. They are setting it up as close as we can get it to what we had before.

Trust me folks the upgrades are gonna make it so much safer in here. We will have the newest smf system installed!

Ok, getting this as fixed as I can get it for now. It has a slightly newer look, but enough of our old I do believe for us to navigate.

Talk to your mods if there is something you can't find and we can all breathe a sigh of relief that our forums is safe once again as it was close to crashing on us folks.

Shawn, I was as surprised as any with the new look, and I think it's streamlined well!  Let me know if you need help reworking the style sheet and whatnot, I think I still remember how lol!  I know I had wondered about the 2.0 upgrade for years, but was always afraid to pull the trigger for fear of losing everything!  Great job buddy.

The new look is very cool! Congrats! :D

The only minor issue i see is with the banner which is missing a bit from its right part.

Serg, I wonder if that is a monitor or screen size issue as mine looks like this:

Pat, how does that banner look to you? Maybe you can make it a bit smaller if we keep seeing folks report this issue. Does anyone else see the banner as a bit cut off? And if you see anything else let us know.

Aha yeah. That's entirely possible on smaller monitors or window sizes. Maybe that logo area needs to be in its own row per se. Kind of like News: is situated.

Everything's fine on a regular monitor, but on a phone the text in the upper right corner overlaps the banner, like jkno posted.

This morning I was frantically looking for the "show unread posts" link  ;D

Everything looks great! I looked at it right after the change and I felt a bit uneasy. Then I had dinner and looked again and I really like it! I have a 14" laptop screen that I use most often and I get the displaced "Unread Posts" buttons as well.

My only note for something to change would be to add the ability to see who is browsing which topics and which members are signed in and how many guests are on as well. Maybe it's still there, but I can't seem to see it.

Otherwise, awesome job!

Thanks for the comments guys, sounds like its working pretty well. I wish there was some kind of auto size thing we could do for our upper banner based on platform or monitor size. I will look into that.

And I do believe AFE that you should be able to still see who is on and the guests at the very bottom, but I will look into that too. Thought I saw that yesterday. I am sure there will be a few growing pains, but giving folks the most secure forums free from spammers, viruses and the like as well as letting new members join (that was actually broke!) was paramount in deciding to get this done.

Shawn, as far as the top banner goes, try giving it a % size ratio instead of defined pixel parameters, such as 80%, and then give it a break afterwards, placing the "New Posts Since Last Visit" section underneath it and see how that works, or give that section the other 20% (or however you'd like to see it) and it will display evenly, regardless of monitor size.
