"The Legend" MOSSY 6/26/14
« on: April 24, 2014, 08:19:26 PM »
30" wide, 22" high, with two 4" wide columns on each end. Middle gap up top will be for a balcony or something.

The door will be made from wood I am thinking. Not sure if it will be operational or not seeing as I don't want to have to make an area behind the door...we'll see.

First time doing "bricks" in foam....go easy!

Going for an older run down castle, not the pretty polished ones in the games

Block wall

Called it quits a bit after this picture. I did finish above the door though (pics next time)

I plan on having a moat, front "lawn", foliage, and maybe some trees...stay tuned!

Loving This so far! For a more weathered look, try putting a weak mixture of acetylene-based nail polish remover and water in a spray bottle and spraying the bricks. It will leave the styrofoam with a pitted, eroded look. Try it on a small, expendable piece first to get a feel of how it'll interact!

Also, LOVING that Figma Link figure! I'm planning on getting one myself!
I have altered the action figure. Pray I don't alter it further.

This is looking great so far.

smeagol is correct the spray should work great or if you aren't that confident grap a piece of sandtone or a rock and press lightly into the foam this will also give a nice stone effect. Also what you could do is get a led pencil and on the stone/brick go around the edges and lightly press down and this will give the stone an even more work look.

Great tips guys! I do have some of my own techniques I like to use. I started wearing the stones a bit more after these pictures (pushing in corners, tearing up edges) I don't want to overdo it either. I am going for a more video game look than a "real" world castle if that makes sense?

I know it may not look like much work was done tonight, bu tit was a lot of sitting and staring. I am stuck between design and build stages where I can't go too far with the block work for there are things I want to incorporate but not settled on what yet.

Just a close up of the block work, I think the "abutments" are deep enough the way they are, what do you think?

Whoah! This is outstanding! Its great to see another LOZ fan on the yards here. I think the bricks look fine. Which Hyrule castle are you going for? Twilight Princess? Ocarina of Time? well I guess I should start making assumptions here you could be doing the sealed grounds or temple of time too. Either way though it looks fantastic!

I am not doing any specific Hyrule Castle, just kind of one of my own. Basically an homage to the game (my fav franchise of all time). So I have some really cool ideas for this dio, just hope I can pull them off!

It's coming together beautifully.

...And sitting and staring is a HUGE part of customizing! You are definitely on the right track.

Finished off the blocks for the main part of the castle. YES I know I messed up the bricks around the window, but I am hoping some well placed ivy and moss will cover that. Gave it a quick paint to see how the detailing will hold up too.

Don't mind Sam, he's been having some problems lately

I wouldn't have noticed it already if you hadn't pointed it out. Looks part of the deco to me. Off to the front page.

Did a black wash, and started adding my shades of grey (about 50 ;) )

I used two types of black paint on each side. The right side (looking at it) I used just regular Tamiya spray black. The left side I used Tamiya Spray flat black. You can see the left side took the grey paint much better. Hoping I can even them out as I go.
