mountaineering
« on: January 26, 2014, 07:30:13 AM »
My favorite hobby beside Star Wars.
It is interesting what you can find in the alps.
Here is an example:
We found some parts of a B-17 Flying Fortress under the "Kleinhansel" in the "Seckauer Alps" last october. The plane was shot down by german AA in Zeltweg during a reconnaissance mission.

thx Shawn
It was a great day and the B-17 parts were the icing on the cake (the crew survived btw).

It would be cool to read the tale of those crewmen. I take it they were probably POWs? Or were they able to make it back to friendly lines?

I wish I could tell you what happend to them but I don't know.
The grandfather of a friend of mine saw the parachutes of them but he couldn't see were they landed.
It is difficult to find informations about the crash but I guess they were POWs.

Christoph! Its great to see you back. Man, awesome vistas. I would have loved to hunt that majestic animal in your one pic. What a great way to stay in shape and enjoy epic views. I could get into that. Is this the Alps I am guessing?

Thank you Shawn.
Yes, this are the Eastern Alps. Not as high as the Western Alps like in Switzerland but also very beautiful.
Hiking is an ideal counterbalance to my job.
The Alpine ibex (Alpensteinbock) is in danger of extinction and strictly protected by law. To hunt them is not possible  ;).

I guessed it as an Ibex. Lets hope they make a full recovery, what a majestic game animal!
