Black Series 6" Stormtrooper
« on: December 14, 2013, 08:49:02 AM »
Dayton just got his hands on a couple of these from Vipers Kingdom and did an awesome review on Facebook:

Facebook Link

"A quick review on the upcoming 6" Star Wars Black series 3 Stormtroopers! First off I got these off an ebay seller in HK names Viperskingdom. I'm not certain how these guys are able to get these so soon but it could be that these have minor defects in the paint that cause them to be rejected from final package runs? Don't know but the four I received had some minor paint wear on the black band across the helmet and a few small markings on the armor..so small you can't see them in the photos. Also these figures joints are "worked"...meaning they aren't stiff and brand new - more like in "played with" condition (possibly part of the product testing) which to be honest is very nice becuase straight out of the box I was able to enjoy all the articulation without the worry of anything being "frozen" or breaking. That being said, none of the joints are loose and nothing broke - very nice. Nothing that would be considered "reject" in my opinion. - I like the little markings...makes the armor more authentic and "lived in".

Very simple review - if you like the Sandtropoper, you will dig the Stormtrooper - honestly, nuff said. Awesome articulation, the shoulder armor limits the shoulders but not an issue in my opinion. The armor is clean and the paint is well done - could have been a little better in the small details around the eyes but these may not be final production pieces so it's not fair for me to make any final judgements. Comes with a standard blaster and rifle - both well done. Blaster is the smae that came with the Sandtrooper. Blaster fits nicely into it's holster. The helmet will be the issue that will cause a division - do you like the black band down toward the eyes or up high like the Sandtrooper - to each their own. I like both myself. You can switch out the two helmets if you wish!
Nothing more to say - very exciting army builder! Hasbro must know how popular these will be. Like the Sandtrooper, it will be hard to just buy one :)"

Here is the Vipers Kingdom Link if you want it too:

the brow being up or down isnt whats going to cause division, there are many more factors there in that helmet sculpt, but I will need to see one in hand

I think I will have at least two based on this review, perhaps more. It really doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would as far as the brow.

I have been doing a bit more looking for other options to get these early and came up with this:

Stormtrooper - 6" Black Series Links

There are even some pretty cool head casts:

Mind Bender Customs 6 inch Headcast Link

and Custom 6 inch Stormtroopers on that link including a great one from a customizer new to by by the name of:

Jin Saotome Link

who did a great Death Trooper. These types of customs are why I was so gung ho about this line when it was first announced. I was in the minority then, but think most folks are really coming around to the idea of doing things like this now.

If anyone finds any links to more reasonable auctions or etailers or what not I would love to see them as I am having a hard time waiting on these to release.

These Stormies might not be perfect (the most striking being the helmet dome), but they are pretty cool. I thought they will keep looking like the protos, but seems Hasbro decided to go with the better sculpt. The rifle is not what Stomies used, he should have some with the DLT-19, but that can be taken from the Sandtrooper. I will get one of these in the future, since the Sandtrooper I already have is pretty cool (though I re-weathered it a bit). I just need a good stand for them.

I agree with you on the rifle and wondered why they just didn't straight repack the ST version, but hey we all are just used to Stormies having their E-11s anyhow. Is there any image where we see a regular storm trooper carrying a rifle? I can't remember one.

It was used by our heroes when escorting Chewie to the Detention Block:

LOL, hey thats right! But not by a regular Stormtrooper? Why am I remembering an opening shot of ROTJ where they are bringing in the shuttle. I guess those would have been Spacetroopers though.

Course now all you have to do is take the Han or Luke head off his body and put it on this new Stormtrooper body and then you can use the rifle in six inch scale. I wonder is Hasbro was thinking this? Surely  not!

If Han uses the DLT-19 when dressed as Stormtrooper, and no one on Death Star finds that odd, I think it is fine to assume they were used by TK's regularly too. A usual MG-34 WWII machine gun is quite heavy, so I think the equivalent DLT-19 was considered as a big gun too.

Tamer, when the two stormies are "searching" the Falcon and they meet up and one says "theres no one here" one of those guys is carrying a riffle
