[MAXX-Replicas] Pacific Rim - GIPSY DANGER Diorama
« Reply #18 on: November 27, 2013, 01:09:00 AM »
Today I want to introduce you to a my current (Pacific Rim) diorama Project:  GIPSY DANGER

I hope this is ok, because the 18” GISPY DANGER from NECA  is not a “proper” action figure like the 3.75” ones from Hasbro.

The diorama is still work in progress. The dimensions will be about 35"x14"x15" (WxDxH). I ordered the figure at Toys'R'us , but am still waiting for the delivery ...

This is only a test-part (not for the final diorama):

Thanks  :)

Here are some pictures of the "ANTI KAIJU WALL" element. It's a larger rebuilt of a "Kotobukiya MECHANICAL CHAIN BASE" element.
I've built one "master" to cast the other 7 elements in the next days. Therefore the last picture with all 8 elements is (still) a "photoshop"  ;)

Thanks my friends  :)

Here some pictures of the (re-)casting-process. The weight of the mold is about 2 kg and the weight of one wall segment is about 0.7kg.
This time I used "Plastalin Super" instead of Resin. Plastalin Super is a special kind of gypsum. It is very stable and nearly unbreakable and
costs only 1/5 of Resin.

More pictures here: http://maxx-replicas.jimdo.com/wip-projekte/pacific-rim/

Left: Master / Right: Recast

I'll do all 8 segments in the next days...

Great looking mold and cast wall section! Do you use a pressure pot?

One of the great advantages of Plastalin-Super is that it can be shed 99.9% bubble free! The mix is: 4 parts powder to 1 part water.
The consistency is then similar to milk, so much smoother than liquid Resin. Therefore, there are no bubbles in casting. Because of that,
there is no need to use a pressure pot (but I also have no pressure pot).

But it is not so good for complete models or for example "head's". Since Resin is still the best. Plastalin-Super is more a relief casting material.
