Clone Wars Republic Assault Tank
« on: July 19, 2009, 07:45:08 AM »
Picked this up at a Wal-mart, last night, for $24.95

Packed in the new red Clone Wars packaging, I have been wondering about these fold out diorama scenes included with the newest released vehicles and now get to see what they are all about. It's interesting to note that the image on the front of the box is now die cut around the parimeter of the vehicle to allow you to view part of the diorama's design through the box front.

Upon opening, I was presented with the tank's body and a bag of 5 parts. Two missiles and their launchers which snap into place on either side of the tank's turret, and a swivling one man gun that snaps into a mounting hole infront of the main top hatch. The two side launchers are positionable up and down. The top main hatch swings open to reveal a cockpit with some detail and enough room to pose a figure in either a standing up through the hatch hole or seated under the hatch position. There are also two side hatches that swing open gull-wing style to reveal enough room to seat two gunner figures which can be seen from a eye slit in front of the tank when the hatches are closed. There are two foot pegs on both sides of the top of the tank's hull which allow for some standing poses with your figures. There are two side compartments with swing up open hatches which contain some nice painted detail of some extra missile storage.  The bottom of the tank has 4 rolling wheels.
With some easy instructions printed on the bottom of the box, the fold-up backdrop is easily assembled and while it could be deeper for this vehicle, is a nice addition to those who like to display their toys. I can envision all sorts of future picture taking opportunities utilizing this backdrop.

The tank itself may be destined for a future custom project but is executed well and deserves it's place in this ever growing line.

I noticed on the back of the box that pics of the Anakin DSF and of the Clone Wars Turbo Tank are present so I must imagine that those toys are out now, as well.

The tank looks awesome!
Nothing bad on Hasbro's part I'm sure they tried but the diorama just doesn't look big enough for the vehicle maybe it looks great behind about four troops but not a vehicle it blocks out too much. I hope the price increase isn't due to this feature because I'd rather they pack in a Clone instead!

I second that notion. I would rather have a figure pack-in, Fett.

I had an idea for a IFT Commander, using an AOTC clone helmet on a Scout Trooper/Kashyyyk Trooper body with an ATTE Gunner headpiece.  Now I'm wondering if maybe a flip-down visor would work over the ATTE Gunner's extra head-armor.

I saw this tank in my store for the first time today and almost bought it. I stood firm on my TESB resolve though. I wondered that the dio would be pretty small due to placing it in the original box size for what were 20 dollar ships. Still, the ship looks pretty sweet and about four or five of these would look good flanking an ATTE.

I think that it might, with a little x-acto massage.

Found and bought this the other day.  It's a really great toy.  My only complaint: beings they bothered with foot pegs, I wish they'd made them a tad bigger.  They don't hold my figures very well.

I like this one in the Battlefront games, but not really sold on the toy or DIO at this price.
Maybe I can get lucky and find one later on sale.
Looks like a solid buy, but right now that price is just a little high IMO.
