Pretty busy weekend as far as customizing goes.  I kept working on my General Pong Krell and still feel like I have sooo much work to do before he is completed.  100% sculpted figures are really time consuming.

Luckily Elias did his best to keep the blog chugging forward.  Elias banged out two different custom action figures this weekend.  He added to our Cantina bar collection by creating a sweet looking Melas.  I haven't photographed it yet, so we probably won't post it until next week, but we did get to photograph Elias' first attempt at sculpting with a Ssi-Ruu Bounty Hunter that he made.  Check it out and let him know what you think:

"Ssi-Ruu Bounty Hunter"
created by Elias

" A while back Dad took me to the DK Star Wars Attack of the Authors East Coast Tour at the Tribeca Barnes & Noble Bookstore in Manhattan.  It was cool because while I was there I got to meet Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano on Star Wars: The Clone Wars.   Star Wars artist Chris Trevas was there and while I was there I picked up an awesome book that he illustrated called Star Wars: The New Essential Guide to Alien Species.  It was in this book that I discovered an alien species called the Ssi-Ruuk.

Ever since I saw the illustration below, I knew I wanted at least one of the these aliens in my collection.  One day I saw a dinosaur at a local toy store that I knew would be perfect for my custom.

I also took my first crack at sculpting. I sculpted the headset and the shoulder armor with Apoxie Sculpt and then used assorted fodder to create the harness.  I used some casted Jango Fett leg armor that I got from SithHappens.  I also used Green Stuff for the first time to create the forked tongues that come out of the Ssi-Ruu's nostrils.

I made the one of a kind gun myself too. I pieced it together from about 6 different guns."

-Elias

Nice, back on the front page. I just love seeing all the different alien SW races. This is a great exemplar of one of them.

L.E. ,

I'm so glad that you were the one to win this contest.  I think you will be a great ambassador for the hobby when you appear on RebelForce Radio.  You have really contributed so much to this hobby. From figures, vehicles, dioramas, and photonovels to being one of the first Star Wars customizers to present a Custom Action Figure Panel at a Star Wars Celebration (VI), you set the bar for what can be done with creativity and a lot of hard work.  You have achieved an admirable reputation among your peers as an artist and your winning figure rocked, even if it wasn't the favorite of your two submissions ;)

I know how much you loved your Sweeper and all the work that went into him.

Let's be real though, your custom action figure of Ro Kurota is no pegwarmer.  I love the choices you made both in his silhouette and paint application.  He's the best of everything, he's so well executed.  You made a Ro Kurota action figure that everyone would want to run out and buy. You made an outfit for him that I'd want to wear if I was in the Star Wars universe.  All the right color choices too.  The clothing lines created a look that was a cross between "Star Wars" and David Lynch's "Dune".  He's pretty magnificaent.  Escpecially your sculpt work on his jaw and chin.  I love that you took the time to give him a scar so you can show that he'd been around the block.  You made a killer figure.

I can't wait to hear you on the podcast.

Congratulations!
