Star Wars X-Wing Alliance Mod Database

Ok so I'm obsessed with this old game. If there is anyone out there who wants to install the game on a new PC (post Windows XP) here are some useful hints, tips and links.

First off, you'll need to follow some pretty technical instructions and create a Windows Vista / 7 installation disc. The instructions on how to do this are here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-x-wing-alliance-upgrade-project/tutorials/x-wing-alliance-installation-on-modern-operating-systems

Once you install the game you will need to install the update patch 2.02 from LucasArts, none of the mods will work without it... http://www.lucasarts.com/support/update/alliance.html

My next recommendation is to convert the game to widescreen resolution. This is an excellent game hack, as it makes a huge difference running the game in the right resolution on a widescreen monitor. To do this you will need a program called Hex Editor http://sourceforge.net/projects/hexbox/, then follow these instructions: http://www.xwaupgrade.com/phpBB3008/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9722&sid=57ddd508d3c9082ef40e508272da7539&start=25

Finally, either upload Darksaber's Ultimate Craft Pack version 2 http://www.darksaber.pnma.co.uk/craftpackucp.html , or download the awesome ships that are self installing from X-Wing Alliance Upgrade http://www.xwaupgrade.com/

You can download the game controls here: http://www.allgame.com/game.php?id=17144&tab=controls

A word of warning to those who think playing this game is a "Cake Walk" , it's bloody hard to master, but very rewarding with perseverance.
