I've been working on a new project this week... and I have it basically finished. So in case your not following it on my facebook page I thought I'd show you the WIP pics and get your thoughts on where I should take it...
I had the idea to build a new mando 1:1 scale helmet the other day and when the concept boba helmet showed up in the TCW cartoon that same week I couldn't resist the urge to try and build it full scale... or at least something very close.
so I started with the concept:
and I took the template I used on my last mando helmet... but all I used was the dome template:
then tried covering that with paper mache... which didn't satisfy me:
Built the visor:
attached the two (which was later re-done), and covered the dome with "elmers wood filler":
I wasn't happy with the visor placement so I ripped it off (I used hot glue to hold it together so it was easy to take it apart when a different direction needed to be taken...
Started to build the main structure of the helmet and the faceplate with the visor attached:
added "respirators" which are actually trimmed up film canisters:
and then re-spackled everything with more wood filler to smooth the transition from the dome to the visor and ring around the top...(which can't be seen behind the helmet)...
Here's the question. Do I go with the range-finder design as seen in the clone wars cartoon, which is similar to the traditional boba fett range finder...?
Or go with the original concept drawing's "backwards" rangefinder on the left side of the helmet?
I know my version isn't exact... and I am missing some details on the "nose"... should I rip off the nose and re-build it to look more like the original or does it look ok??
bear in mind I still need to sand down the dome to make it smooth... I'm waiting on the putty to fully dry.
