An Epiphany of Old Republic Proportions
« on: December 14, 2010, 07:40:43 PM »
So, I've been waiting and waiting for Hasbro to come out with a Knights of the Old Republic line, and I realize now that outside of the HK-47 and the Revan and Malak figures, it's probably never going to happen.

Here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to buy a bunch of junk/surplus figures, hack 'em apart, and then make my own line of KotOR/KotOR II figures, complete with my own "Evolutions" style line of figures for a few of the custom choices for the Revan and Exile figures.

I'll be posting pictures of my progress!  Anyone know if there are any Wookiee figures on the market other than Chewbacca?  I need some bases for Zaalbar and Hanhaar.
I have altered the action figure. Pray I don't alter it further.

The ROTS line had several Wooks, inc. Tarfful, a couple of warriors, and the senator.

I figured there were some Wookiees in the RotS line.  Thanks! I'll be looking for them online.

Sounds like an awesome idea. You should think about posting the reference pics along side your figures.

I'm already planning out which figures I'm going to need.  I know Carth Onasi is wearing Luke's jacket from the medal ceremony scene, so that's a figure I'll need.  The Mandalorian figures could be more difficult, what with their helmets, but I'm pretty sure there's an Evolutions line of Mandalorians with the right helmet sculpt.

Any thoughts if you even will make any of these characters?

Darth Sion
Darth Nihilus
Reven
Bao-Dur
Jedi Exile

I'm making all of the characters.  This is going to take some time.  I'm actually considering making two complete versions of the casts, light and dark side, but for now I'll do the light side figures first.

Sorry for the double post, but I actually just realized that I could theoretically make molds for all of the characters and build them from scratch, rather than buying a crapload of figures.  This would make making the light and dark variants a lot easier.  I'll be reading the resin and casting threads to see if I could realistically do this.  Anyone know if this is worth it, or should I just buy up a lot of surplus figures?

If you ever figure out how to cheaply and effectively make functional joints, let me know.

For the most part, you're right; Hasbro is just missing the boat.  They are doing Bastilla Shan later this year (Mold seen in ToyFare last month), and I thought a Jolee Bindo as well, but you never know.  We the collectors have told Hasbro they'd be a hot seller for years now, and they scoff at our beliefs.  Silly Hasbro!  In any case, I can't wait to see what you come up with for all of these!

I know, right?  You'd think the fans would be Hasbro's first source of "what's hot."
I'll have to look up that Bastilla mold, though; if they're planning on a KotOR line, I might not have to make anything!

...not that that will stop me.

Go ahead and make yours. They will be better than the factory made.  For some reason Hasbro, at the very least, fails to even Google a character reference picture when making figures.  They often get the wrong colors, bad sculpts, and the wrong details.
