Thrift Store/ Yard Sale Goodies
« on: March 02, 2010, 02:27:59 PM »
I have been thinking about posting this topic for a while now. The economy has a lot of us down and this is a great way of finding useable items as fodder and sometimes you can get a vehicle or figures if you are lucky. Heck even if you have plenty of doe to spend there are some great finds out there and what a great way to recylce and reuse. I will also post what I do with these finds as different projects come to life.

Now I ask that everyone joins in starts visiting Thrift Stores, Salvation Arm, Hope Line or whatever you have in your area if you don't already. Post pics of your finds here and then post what you did with it/what you turn it into. We could even start trading goods if someone sees something they need. This could go anywhere from here...anyone interested?

I know most people have seen this before but one of my best Thrift Store conversions is this Rebel Transport that lived its life for decades as a casette tape drawer. Thank God I liberated him from all that 80's music...

The original product

The vision

The transformation

I forgot to mention I paid $2 for that cassette holder with 3 drawers.

This is what I scored 3 weeks ago for $2.25

I can see these being cut up for parts in vehicle and droid customs.  The Naboo Starsip is missing the opening canopy and one of the landing gear has a broken piece. All together not a bad score.

that tank looks promising and I can see that brown thing on the lower right getting turned into some kind of speeder bike.

Yea Clint I'm sure the tank will become a GAR vehicle and the brown happy meal bike will indeed become a swoop. I know some of the other pieces may look odd but remember I also do a lot of Indiana Jones customs so some pieces will be found for that. Not to mention it is so cheap sometimes I just buy stuff out of whimsey or because it looks interesting,

This is my haul from last week...

Ok so did anyone else start checking their local good will/thrift stores? I do know Joe Rhino found a legless ATTE a few weeks ago for around $5.

Ok Pictures will follow but on the advice of L.E. I managed to score some stuff last Saturday haven't looked since, but I will.

I managed to score 2 Fast Food Avatar toys (the Horses with the Light Up Feature I still want to keep the light up feature when I sort these).

A Fast Food Robot, I don't know I am going to do with it yet but something will come together.

And finally well you have all seen my Jaxxon by now and you know that I am going to being do Amaiza again, well I am not only doing those but I have plans on doing my version of the Aduba 8 (Minus Han and Chewie as Hasbro has done a fine job on those), well to get back to what I found - I got a pair of tank tracks that will look great for Effie, seeing I am going to be getting Jim the Starkiller Head from Darthsinister.

Also plan on looking at the Salvy tomorrow, to see if they have anything.

Can't wait to see your next haul!  I've been wanting to go garage selling.  Maybe, once I get some money saved up, my family and I can go one Saturday morning. bbfet

Well I picked up a few things at the Thrift store, I got myself a cool case for my custom heads that I will use, it's a lovely metal box, was meant for games machine.

I also got another creature I wish I knew what I was doing with sculpey, having trouble with it, as I need to fill in some screw holes.

And I also got a Darth Maul Journal, so I can keep parts I am after in.

Great to see you in here MC good luck in the hunt.

Michael great find I looked at that metal case and almost got it as it looked so cool but I have a few bins not filled so I left it. Great buy for $2 and I'm glad you got it.

Here is my haul from about a week ago. I hope to have a pic soon with a few things I made from this stuff.
