Reconsgt's Figures
« on: October 25, 2009, 03:13:13 PM »
Well, It has been a few years since I had actually done a custom figure, so I guess I need to get going again.

This is one I started today, it's a WIP so to speak as I need to do more work to the helmet then add some weathering to add some grit. But this is my take on Kal Skirata based loosely on the wookiepedia pic, It's Ok so far but I am not happy yet, other than the helmet I need to find a head that will work under the bucket and some weapons more suited to his persona.

man it looks good so far... of course... I have grown to hate the SW. versions of mandos, opting for using Gi-joe bodies with grafted on mando parts....   but for a stand alone display figure they are still good, and yours will be great once the weathering and paint apps are finished.

forgot to ask, what head sculpt are you using?

Not sure on the head sculpt other than it will be from a Joe ROC fig,  I need to find a decent donor to work from.

Looks pretty good, Wayne!  It's interesting what people are customizing on here.

Nice Wayne! Welcome to the custom figures board. Mandos are fun to do. Lots of neat paint apps to try.

Thanks, I've done others a long time ago but haven't done anything in years, nowadays it seems funny to pull out the old POTF2 customs, but I may post some pics of the old stuff.

ALL Star Wars customs are nice to see, no matter what era they're from, definitely post them up please!

Your Mando looks good so far, Wayne. Mandos can sometimes be tricky, for me at least , because of all of the intricate and tiny areas to paint.
Look forward to your progress.

Wow, awesome kal so far! Skirata's one of my favorite mandos, so I'm really glad to see someone doing a custom of him! Not sure how I feel about the red on his helmet, but I'm sure it'll all look great when it's done. As for the head, I've always kind of thought a Rahm Kota head (without the pony tail) would be really good for skirata,  but if you're dead set on a Joe head, I don't really know enough to recommend one. We all thought that if there were figures from the Abyss or Apollo 13, an Ed Harris head would be perfect, haha! Can't wait to see him finished! Next you'll need to do Walon Vao  (?) and his strill thing, that'd be sweet! Keep up the good work!

Kal buir's helmet is accurately described in the Order66 RC novel.
In fact, I think that he could be very authentically recreated as an action figure.
I've got all parts together for my Skirata project now...

I have a Rahm Kota fig packed away, I will dig that out for a little modification and see if I can get it right.

Lookin' sharp so far Sarge. Love me some WIP shots, it's always cool to see how a custom finally came to be. Be mindful of the gold armour not turning out too shiny though. Hmm, I believe a have a White Dwarf magazine somewhere containing an article on painting gold armour or weapons...
