TRU exclusive Crumb Bomber Gunship
« on: October 19, 2009, 09:05:38 PM »
I picked this one up last weekend at TRU for the elevated price of $69.99

Alot of hype has surrounded this 6th version of the ever present republic gunship and for a change, this one isn't just a repaint.
This latest version features new full length side doors and smaller doors under the cockpit on either side that fold down. Also, I notice a new floor detail in this forward area. The upper big missle launchers are still there but aft of this are twin swing open additional missile launchers that hold 4 missiles apiece that are fired by twisting the back nacelle shaped end cap and fire one at a time as you cycle this cap. All the normal gunship features are in place except the bombs that used to clip onto the inside of the swing back side doors and the tow/hanging cable in the back below the aft gun barrel. Naturally, the posts are present infront of the swing open side doors for mounting of the new legacy gunpods. Alot of sites have reported that the full length doors negates the positioning of these gunpods while the doors are closed but I discovered something. Notice those square shaped notches in front of the swing open side doors? They are present in the Lucky lekku gunship as well. It is my belief that originally, that notch was to hold the arm of the gunpod while it was connected to the interior pegs and still allow the doors to close. The design of the gunpod arm doesn't allow for this but, the notch is perfectly shaped to fit the arm through it and hold the gunpod in place while the doors are closed even though it's not attached to the interior peg mounting point. So, as you can see, it is still possible to mount the pods with the doors closed.

no decals were offered with this release and they smoked the cockpit glass black again so you cant see any pilots when the canopy is closed. Bummer.

the pics available at sdcc looked like the crumb bomber nose art was a sticker but it is a paint app and does look pretty nice.

It's expensive, an exclusive, pretty neat looking and, I bought it.

I didn't even bother unfolding the included cardboard diorama display for this one because as we all know, it wasn't big enough for display of this ship.

It does look great.
And the additions are really nice.
Solid doors in addition to the slotted doors and the nice fold down command doors.
Extra firepower all over the place and redesigning things that worked to make them work better.
Somebody put a little thought into this thing.
So how did they lose their mind and give it smoky cockpit windows and a grossly inflated price?
Dont get me wrong, if I see it, Odds are I will buy it.... But I wont be entirely happy about it.
Until I get a few gunpods to go with it..... And then I will still regret not getting the BMF when I had the chance....
Great Pics and review Clint.
I like this one...

thanks buddy. they had a smoked canopy on the lucky lekku gunship also.
Was it not around this time last year that exclusive was $50 at walmart and that was too steep? Now, here comes a tru exclusive and it is $70? how much was the tru exclusive sharkmouth version? $30?

These inflated gunship prices are responsible for the value of the gunships on ebay going up, I'm sure.

Not sure... I paid $55 with shipping for mine used.... If I ever would have seen one for under $40 then I would have bought them for sure.
I so want this one, but cant even think about it now unless there is some coupon or discount or sale to make it worthwhile.
I guess in a pinch you could just swap canopies with another gunship.... all the others i have seen and held are about the same... for one that can be seen through...

Wow she looks great! I saw one of these yesterday at my local store. I told my wife about it (which I rarely do since she really doesn't care about it) I was so excited to see it. Now if I just had an extra 70 dollars sitting around =)

Why go through life base fig, when you can customize?

Do you think that it is worth the money? How many figures does it hold?

Here is my problem with the whole thing: This is the 6th version, and we're just NOW getting more detail and action from this thing?  When ROTS came out, these went for $30 or $35, and have continued to shoot up to double the initial price for essentially the same thing.  Not just this, but once again, Hasbro posted RECORD profits despite SLOWER sales!  That means, they're selling less items (probably because it's the same old same old for the most part), inflating the prices, and STILL making huge profits.  I dont' care if this comes with solid gold floors and a $50 gift card to TRU, I'm not buying it and I hope TRU get's stuck with a shit ton of these.

On a brighter note, nice shots Clint!
