all in due time... unless someone can help me calculate the compressability of a confined aquifer's skeleton based on it's porosity, the density of water, and specific storage of the aquifer.... I'm going to be stuck doing homework the rest of the day! I've also got to do 6 journal article reviews....  So I might not be getting on to upload pics untill sund. or monday night....

But,,, I will get them up eventually, back to work!

ok... by popular demand I stopped doing homework and uploaded some pics of my resin casts I've gotten done this last week....

here is a pic of the parts NFC so kindly loaned me.  I've only gotten a few of the parts actually molded...

from that immage I have cast so far the rebel trooper helmets, the endor hat, the blue cobra elite viper helmet, and the little silver night vision goggle helmet accessory.  I don't think I'll be able to cast the weopons, or the backpacks very easilly... So.... thanks NFC for sending those other parts but I'm afraid the only parts I'm having any luck with are the heads and helmets...

here are some pics:

huh... funny thing to note, that scar on my finger is an exacto knife injury...  I just noticed that in the pic... lol

Bubbles are pretty noticable in the clear resin....  I think I've devised a plan to minimize bubbles... but I'm going to try it before I tell you guys what I have in mind....

I painted the clear helmet, and painted the visor with "clear red" so that it is still opaque but has some color.

well?  What's the verdict?  I'm still not as good at this as clint is... but the clear resin parts are definately coming out realy realy neat...

A thing to not about them though.  YOU HAVE to wait at least 12 hours before trying to demold them.  They may seem hard enough but they tend to act more like rubber after about 5-8 hours.  You can demold them while they are slightly rubbery though and stretch them a little.  This might be nice for helmets that might not fit over certain figure's heads...  In the future I might be able to time it right to be able to demold a clear resin part early enough that it's still soft an be able to stretch it over a larger figure to get it to fit, then let it harden on that figure and take the needed shape.....

it's something worth trying.

Nice R&D work, spud!  The parts are looking good so far.

Those are some nice looking casts, spud. I was wondering that about that clear stuff as far as the long wait for it to cure.
I think that HL has some clear resin that cures alot quicker.
Thanks for the pics.

Looks like a good job spud. The clear helmets could have several uses in the future. I would love to get one of those chainsaws if it works out.

the chainsaw has been customized by NFC as an attachment for the Cobra B.A.T. figures, but if I can figure out a good way to cast it then to make it a normal chainsaw all you'd need to do would be sand off the BAT arm part of it.

thanks guys, I'm realy enjoying what I'm getting with the clear resin.  The quick set resin is still giving me bubble voids and problems....  I'm going to try my idea for fixing that soon though....

back to the books for me for now though....

well I discovered something simple and easy to eliminate bubbles...  I have a cordless sander in my toolbox of cordless ryobi tools.  It's the kind that vibrate the pad around in a circle to make it sand...   SO all I've done is set it on my card table I use for casting and turn it on, the vibration shakes out all the bubbles.  It worked perfectly!

yeah, I guess that works, too, but my PC case fan idea runs on a nine volt so you can save space, :)

well... that's my latest set... just got to wait for it to all cure.  Currently I'm working on getting several rebel trooper helmets cast up for NFC

doc, I'll probably send you a package of stuff to review since I never sent you anything back for the parts you sent me....

lol yeah... but half way through I realized I screwed up big time.  I accidentally used twice the ammount of hardener I was supposed to in the silicone... and I ran out.... :(
