Many Bothans died to bring us this information..

All 3 of my paints that I needed for this custom came in the mail yesterday. I was able to knock out this custom, my very own Blue Squadron Y-Wing. To me, its more then a simple repaint. This Y-Wing is based on the squadron that attacked the Suprosa from Shadows of the Empire. SOTE is my favorite EU story, which prompted me to create this.

I went a little more in depth with this custom. I researched material regarding this Y-Wing before customizing it. In the comics, the Y-Wings are shown without blue paint, but have some orange markings on the body of the ship. I know comics aren't exactly known for having every detail on every page. In the video game X-Wing Alliance (a favorite of mine) you actually fly in one of the vacant Y-Wings. These Y-Wings do have blue paint, and the blue bands on the engines are much larger then the yellow bands found on this original Y-Wing. Also, your R5 unit has red markings. This R5 had yellow markings, but was a bit discolored. I took a flathead screwdriver and easily popped the head off. I swapped it with Porkins' R5 unit, and repainted the silver panels on top red so it looks like a basic R5 unit. Now it matches the R5 in the game.

So basically I took all the info I found and just combined everything. Now I just need a Bothan pilot. Without further ado here is the Bothan Blue Squadron

Thanks guys. I got both Y-Wings on my chair here, they just look awesome next to each other. I'm very happy with the shade of blue that I used, and I think the orange piping really adds to it.  I mentioned it in my video but I forgot to say it here, I used a gray primer on the laser cannons. I easily pulled them out and sprayed them, and I actually liked how the gray looked so I left it. Lastly I dabbed a bit of black paint on the tips.

Nice job on all. I want to see the OutRider when it's done.

Had to take a little break from customizing as I was busy for the past 2 weeks with training at my new job. The training wore me out, as it was at night and I would come right home, go to bed and go to work in the morning.

I just sat down to start customizing my Snowspeeder and the paint is the wrong shade. On paper, Jokaero Orange looks about perfect. I tested it out and it looks like a tan/light brown color. Definitely not even close. I'll probably start on Rookie One's Blue 3 X-wing instead in the next day or so.

After getting the wrong color paint in the mail, I bought a new color which I think best matched what I needed for this custom. This is a Luke Skywalker Snowspeeder from the 2010 Vintage Line, but customized with the traditional redish-orange markings we are accustomed to seeing. Even though we have Zev's Rogue 2 Snowspeeder, I wanted to do this custom because I loved how this one was built. It's much more sturdy, well put together, and a better size I think. With that, it made all the more sense to customize it with the redish-orange markings.

In the first few pics, I have the smaller cannons on. In the last pic, which is what I have currently, has the custom with the second, larger set of cannons. I always preferred the smaller set of cannons, but this custom gave me an excuse to use the second set and not lose them. The color I used was Wild Rider Red from Games Workshop Paints.  The list on page 1 has been updated again.

Looks great!  I might have to do something similar
I think the rougue grey/black version from the action fleet line would make a good custom version of this too.

The repaint looks great.
I hope Hasbro will make a Sandspeeder version of the Vintage 2010 Snowspeeder in the near future.

Picked up some epoxy putty the other day so I should be starting up on the updated Outrider shortly. I bought 2 tubes so I should have plenty. Just wanted to post an update as I'm still interested in customizing.

Seems like with the announcement of the new movies its got my interest level back up.

Recently started working again on Dash Rendar's Outrider. With the epoxy putty I found I was able to fill in the gaps I had previously cut off (with the help of my Dad). I filled in 2 areas in the back (on each side of the engine), on the side of the cockpit which faces the body of the ship, the side of the gun turrent, and on the other side getting rid of the large missile launcher.

I feel like the areas I filled in could have been a bit better. Maybe this weekend I'll see if I can file them down so it looks a bit better or find some styrene sheet, cut the necessary size piece and place it over the epoxy putty. This is my first time working with the stuff, I think I did an ok job so far. Lastly I'm going to give the Outrider a new paint job.

The last pic is what its going to look like, the final design.
