Raylen's custom Vehicles
« on: December 04, 2021, 10:54:36 AM »
Figured I'll start this thread with the last custom I just finished. I still had the Kenner Landspeeder from when I was a kid. Shifter was broken, decals barely there, windshield and seats glued as well as other things that had broken years ago. So I decided to give it new life and turn it into a fancy new speeder. The biggest mod was to cut the engines off. I cut down and heavily modded engine's from Hole in the Ground Productions' "Lars Speeder" kit. Added a ridge to the hood. The windshield had a big crack so I cut the top down. Cut out the connection between the seats. Covered over the shifter hole. Beefed up the center engine pylon with styrene. Decals scavenged from other things with the black and silver striping cut from vinyl.

Custom Speeder Bike

First I have to give credit to being inspired by someone I saw many many years ago who modded a STAP into a speeder bike. However I took it quite further here. I combined parts of a STAP along with a POTF2 Speeder Bike. The center kick stand is part of a POTF2 EV-9D9 leg and additional bits of legs used for side engine detail. The shifter is from a 21-B. Additional misc bits were used as well.

Now this is great! I recognized that STAP right away.

Off to share this on the front pages.

Well, I searched for "STAP" on our forum this morning, but couldn't find the custom vehicle you referred to. This is a design I think Moronarama could've come up with. Also larifari & Foxtrot Delta have made some cool stuff.

I love the quality of the paint job you gave your custom vehicle! The STAP will always stay one of my favorite designs and it's cool to see it being developed further!

The bike looks really good. Its a welcome variante from the more skinny swoops bike we usually see.

That STAP based speeder is fantastic. The design totally works and it fits together really well.

Pick up a $6 CORPS multipack at Ollies the other day for $6 just to get this tread bike.  I didn't feel the original foot pegs and handles location worked very well so I lopped them off and added my own. Extra set in back for a passenger. The handlebars are just a piece of aluminum rod and can pivot to help pose the figures. Had fun painting this up and it shows how much perception of quality can be attributed to a good paint job.

That's a really cool vehicle. You adjustments totally make sense. The paint job is brilliant,  I can see what you mean about its impact on perception of quality.

Inspiration goes to Jake Jakes after I saw a repaint of this Adventure People rover. It works great for a Jawa vehicle. Although Adventure people were 3 3/4", they were very narrow and this vehicle was even tight fit for them. I couldn't really get a full size figure in it but its perfect for Jawa that aren't fortunate enough to have a Sandcrawler.
