Unproduced Hoth Set from 2012 Discovered!
« on: March 05, 2018, 07:37:15 AM »
An unproduced "Star Wars" Hoth themed set from around 2012 has been discovered!

The set would have included a Probe Droid (apparently the same one that was released last year in the "The Last Jedi" line) with a pop apart travel pod, an Imperial Engineer figure (updated to include ball hinged elbows), at least 1 Hoth Rebel Trooper (a second head is included but it is not known if a second figure would have been), a Rebel Base computer console with chair and possibly additional items.

This unproduced set of hardcopies was uncovered by a prototype collector on Instagram. Finds like this are always interesting as it gives us a look at what could have been.

That one would have been on my shopping list, Dan.

Mine too. Saw someone ask Steve Evans about it on Hasbro Pulse. Maybe they would still be willing to release it.

Saw this one on another fan site and my jaw dropped! A new gunner, a rebel trooper, the fantastic probe droid sculpt, AND a diorama piece? It would be a dream indeed if this made a return in TVC.

These items are sweet! JTA reported on them, too and also mentioned the source if the pics.

Here is the link to the lucky owner's site on Instagram:

There are more pictures of the figures with all details...awesome stuff. His collection of prototypes is stunning...I wonder where he gets them all...he only talks about "his sources"...do you guys know more about prototypes, hardcopies and first shot products?

Learned more about "sonic and ultrasonic welding", yesterday...very interesting technique, which I didn't know before...

Let's cross fingers to see a release of this great stuff and much more to come! The Death Star Gunner would look great next to JDeck's Death Star Cannon!

That's a set I would have bought two or three of. Is there any way we can ask Hasbro about possibly producing this set?

I still think about that sweet probe-bot. Soo sad they do all that and don't put it out. Stuff like this is why I almost backed TVC book (even with all the incredible stuff unlocked)... I just don't really like TVC I feel while it works: IT makes no logical sense. The snoke, jyn, rey I just got $2.50 each are perfect since I'll never be tempted to open them. I just wanted a "souvenir"

I'm still optimistic. Hasbro might've pushed this set to the 40th Anniversary of ESB next year. I don't think they invested time & money in those prototypes without actually making profit with them down the line.

I can see those Kmart Exclusive Packs with 2 figures and one accessory as suitable medium to release those prototypes (approx. $24.99). The Hoth Trooper with that computer only needs another figure and that DS Gunner could go with some Death Star accessories or even a turret/cannon? Same goes for that gorgeous Probe Droid to be released at $29.99 like the Ewok Assault Catapult.

So Tamer you're not alone regarding the Vintage Collection packaging. Fortunately there are enough fans out there who screamed loud enough for a return of our beloved TVC...

Yeah,.......I would have bought that for sure. I honestly don't have a probe droid in my collection so this would be cool if it got made.

Let's keep fingers crossed for this set to be released this year! The 40th Anniversary of ESB is such a big fish for Hasbro not only so many fans consider it to be the best Episode of all Star Wars movies.
If you don't have a probe droid, yet, I'd suggest to you to get the Deluxe set with Darth Vader from 2018. It's been on clearance all over the U.S. for as low as $5 at Five Below.
