Toy Fair 2020
« on: January 29, 2020, 04:13:14 AM »
We will once again have a presence at Toy Fair. If there is anything you want our Mad Jawa to go take a look at let me know and I will point him in the right direction.

Of course we will be attending the Hasbro Presentation, but there are always a ton of licensees out there and many new products to see.

Um, slot cars, Shawn. Im sure my favorite of the slot car heavy hitters is Carrera who should have a section set aside at toy fair. It’s the next two toy fairs I watch for this stuff. Im anxiously waiting for news of their 2020 line of goodies. This years cars, any new accessories or new tech. I thought I had read that they had sold/merged with someone else recently. I was wondering to see how that might affect the New Years line.

Okay, NYTF is next weekend already. Felt so far away at the beginning of the month. Time flies now! So I made up my mind, which was more of a chanllenge to me than expected.

Since I to the Hasbro brand team at Comic Con in Dortmund, Germany, I know how superficial conversations with them really are. It's just Business for them. And if you ask Questions, you'll get a five-Minute-answer with close to zero unspecific content. It's like the 3.75" line nowadays.

So we got the answer of why TBS is treated so much better than TVC: The Black Series brings more profit to Hasbro. They could re-invent the Wheel with the new scale. It's like a completely new cow they can exploit.
It still makes me sad, that they first gave us 5POA (it was confirmed to have been Disney's idea!) and then decidied abandon the 3 3/4" toy line completely. Evan also admitted that the 5POA line didn't run well.
So our prediction sadly turned out to be correct. You can read all on that here:

http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=10690.msg215370#msg215370

So after asking questions for a while and not getting any specific answers, I just started to make suggestions. And here are some that I didn't think of back in December:

General Questions:

1) What happened to the #TheVintageConversation, which Steve (Evans) started on Instagram back in 2018? Does it/Did it have any impact on current decisions?

http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=10412.msg205404#msg205404

The Vintage Collection

1) Is The Vintage Collection focused on The Empire Strikes back this year and maybe the following year, too?
The answer has to be YES!

2) When is the promised Jabba on his Throne coming in The Vintage Collection?

3) Where is Greedo? We had not got any Greedo in 10 years! Please, give us a Greedo on Vintage card!

4) Figures! Here are some suggestions for TVC figures of The Empire Strikes back:

- Imperial Snowtrooper
- Lobot
- General Rieekan
- Bounty Hunters! Bossk, 4-LOM, Zuckuss, IG-88 (make a good one!)
- Lobot
- unreleased TLC Ugnaught 2
- AT-AT Driver - New, TBS scale-down or TLC Repack
- Rebel Commander (Hoth)
- FX-7 Medical Droid on VC card

- unreleased TLC2 Captain Rex

- Plase, make a super-articulated version of the Jedi Temple Guard.
Let's show them a photo this time:

5) We've received some great choices for LEGENDS characters in The Vintage Collection of 2010-2012. How are the chances to see this section continue? What about a Satele Shan?

Disney should like her, too, since she's a good & female character unlike their own!

6) What happened to VC150 Darth Revan? Are we getting an all-new Version of this great character in The Vintage Collection?

She would also be a great addition to the new 6" Black Series Gaming Greats line (for GameStop)!

7) What about a Special Action Figure Set of Knights of the Old Republic videogame including 3 figures:
An all-new Darth Malak, Bastila Shan (photo real update) and HK-47 (TLC B-A-D repack)?

8) Good choices for re-releases/repacks in TVC box/packaging:

Vehicles:

- SOTDS AT-ST (Hoth)
- SOTDS Bespin Cloud Car
- re-issue: TVC Slave I
- re-issue: TVC AT-AT (Hoth) BAT-AT
- re-issue: TVC Big Millenium Falcon (BMF, don't forget the right dish!)
- Please bring back those turrets from 2010!

Figures:

- VC01 Dengar

NEW STUFF

Suggestions:

Please, give us finally The Emperor on his throne! Even if you just scale down The Black Series Version, but please - JUST DEW IT, NOW!

Playsets:

- Yoda's hut
- Carbon Freezing Chamber
- Hoth Trench (Vintage sytle playset/remake of the original Kenner one?)

Vehicles and Creatures

- Are we getting a Probe Droid for The Vintage Collection?
- Please, bring back Han Solo and his Taun Taun!
- What about a TVC Wampa? Or is the last ForceLink2.0 Wampa just fine?

- an ALL-NEW A-Wing for TVC! Do it Hasbro, pleeease!

My expectations? None.

I suppose we'll just see more repacks of The Black Series 2013-2017 for The Vintage Collection.

Likely candiates are:

- #06 Darth Vader (2013)
- #23 Toryn Farr (2013)
- #24 Snowtrooper Commander (2013)

Unlikely but the return of TBS #18 Darth Plagueis would be Pretty awesome on Vintage Card

And again the Question: Why in hell did Hasbro put The Vintage Collection on hiatus in the first place?!

What's going on with GTP Space Walls? I heard they had some patent conflicts with Lego, but that was at least a year ago. I'd think they'd figure something out by now.

Lots of reveals on the front page. Hope they leave some stuff to share for the weekend.

Looks like a lot of the Mandalorian and The Clone Wars so far!

Posted the last of the galleries to the front page. I am still processing, but wondering what has you folks the most excited.

Guess for me it has to be the new six inch scale Snowspeeder following by the TESB 6" Vintage Carded Figures (especially that AT-AT Driver) followed by the Vintage Slave I.

I was just looking at my last one (Amazon one) and for the life of me can't see why we needed a new one though? Looks like about the only thing different is the paint deco on the thrusters on the bottom.

I guess the slave 1 was an easy throw in because it had both been recently in production, and was tied to the 40th Anniversary Of Empire. As a plus, those pesky mandos have become popular lately so big H figured it was a win-win.
The speeder has me drooling, I dont think a cloud car release in this scale would go over as well but with the hothy rebel trooper, one could imagine a trench turret or dish weapon in this scale. I’m happy about the probot. Heck, I like all of the esb stuff
I’m not as excited about the retro 3 3/4 line or the smaller scale line

Yeah the retro line isn't doing if for me either. I think I would rather go after original Kenner than collect this. I think that is true of  most collectors. It just bugs the heck out of me that we cannot get at least a few dedicated waves of the vintage line showing up in 3.75" scale for each new Toy Fair or SDCC.
