New Trilogy Announced
« on: November 10, 2017, 06:01:17 AM »

“We all loved working with Rian on The Last Jedi,” said Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm. “He’s a creative force, and watching him craft The Last Jedi from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career. Rian will do amazing things with the blank canvas of this new trilogy.”

Blank Canvas. I am guessing that means brand new actors and story.

Without sugarcoating it... I'm NOT looking forward to this. I don't have any real respect  for the super derivative work of  RIAN. I've seen all his movies before Disney even bought SW. Looper was literally just TIMECOP  (1994) ...as one example. It just seems all you have do is make a single project people buy into then broadcast "I like SW" and they give you a SW flick?

I've seen way.... Way... WAY! too many movies in my life. As a loner child it's all I did... Even still today...hate to admit it. I have an entire wall of DVDs and pride myself on finding original experiences and products (cuz that's what they REALLY are).

Sure SW should be accessible to everyone... But it should try and aim for higher aspirations. Because: Why not? But then again this is all opinion from someone that saw STARSHIP TROOPERS (1997) in the original  theatrical run... when I was 11yr and understood/appreciated every level of that vision/satire in my first viewing.

I am kind of hoping we just get new story period. It wouldn't hurt my feelings for them to create entirely new everything. I too am hoping we don't get Star Wars so diluted it looses its magic for us all. Course I never thought I would ever have to worry about too much Star Wars thats for sure!

Yeah too much can be a bad thing... Just flip threw the complete action  figure guide... It will make your head hurt... If I recall 1/4 of the book is just all the clone troopers produced. Add to the fact how out of date that book is now an well that's proof enough to me.

I remember the marketing slogan "SW IS FOREVER" still gives me chills.

But yeah like you said just do a whole new story just get away from everything... So much copies SW anyway its just an official Disney logo now.

Ok, this may get lengthy and be full of hope, but bear with me..

I actually AM looking forward to the new trilogy.  for 40 years, we’ve been hooked on the sci-fi drug known as Star Wars, and I don’t regret a moment of it (well, maybe TPM) and can’t wait for another 40 years!  But I have heard a lot of the disagreements with Rian’s style.  However, I have  two words for you: DISNEY and MARVEL.  When Disney acquired Marvel, they had a battle plan: New Marvel movies every year, with a total goal and plan in mind.  And it’s been stellar.  They’ve knocked it out of the park.  Name ONE bad Marvel movie.  Even the relatively lower level, or even obscure, movies have been a hit.  And they’ve all had their place, and now with Infinity War coming, they’re already looking at the next wave of Marvel movies and where they’ll be headed.  Brilliant.  So now Disney buys Star Wars, and they’ve made the same promise: A new Star Wars movie every year.  Of course, we were all skeptical, but so far, I have not been disappointed.  Rogue One was brilliant, fit in perfectly with the Saga, and accomplished the story it set out to tell.  I loved it.  I am also not a pretentious internet troll who seeks only to destroy and mock anything and everything that gets put out there, so i guess maybe I’m a bit naive.

All that said, we also have to remember that this trilogy, Episodes 7-9, are a J.J. Abrams project, with Johnson directing one of the 3.  There is a creative TEAM at the helm, not one individual.  While Johnson does have quite a bit of power over the next trilogy, he is not the only one.  There others.

So we catch a glimpse, or possibly a hint or nod, towards the next trilogy.  A young boy who encounters a member of the Resistance and apparently has Force powers, looks to the stars.  Symbolism at it’s finest, and exciting for me.  So I ask, why should the saga stop so soon?  Why can’t we be excited for the myriad of possibilities about what can come next?  Until I’m consistently disappointed, I will remain hopeful, I will remain excited, and I will remain that young boy who saw Return of the Jedi for the first time in the theater, and have been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember.

And for the record, I LOVED, Episode 8.  Top 3 Star Wars films for me.

I agree with Phatty and am looking forward to new, undiscovered territory in the GFFA.  Episode 8 is in my fav 3 SW movies too. I'm not too sure about RJ directing all three movies... Having a mix of different directors who put their stamp on the movies, within Disney's boundaries, seems a wiser choice to me. But let's first focus on Solo and ep. 9 and then look at ehat the future will bring. It's always in motion after all...

I’m wondering why those two guys couldn’t helm the new trilogy while Rian focused on the Disney net media outlets instead?

I agree with you on Rogue 1, Pat
I just watched it again a week or so ago

Heh, I guess we'll get 26 different storylines running simultaneously throughout the movies, with space dragons, main characters getting killed off at any given moment, boobies and lots, lots of dismemberment. And maybe Lothal wolves :D

Of course, these guys might just as well get sacked, once they've started shooting. Happened before to another directors duo, you know ;)

I try to stay positive about new SW movies, and so far no big disappointments, but the idea of a GOT SW Trillogy makes me cringe. Meybe I'm overreacting, they don't have to put zombies, dragons and porn in it, but that's what comes to mind. I dunno we'll see. There may come a day that I'll just have to pick and choose what SW content I want to watch.

I couldn't help feeling sadness while watching TLJ. I understand what the writers are trying to do, but Star Wars is a Sci-Fi War Film with Wizards and the essence and the magic has been removed. I also recognise that I am a different generation, so I felt that the button has been handed to them. If that's the case then I have decided that the latest trilogy is a different universe so that it doesn't spoil my love for the original movies.

(I bet all those who criticised the prequels are now regretting their actions BTW)

Anyhoo, unless the folks who have taken over ownership of this brand actually want to please the older SW Generation then I'm just making like ObiWan and hiding myself in a mud hut in the Outer Rim.
