Storing question on Sideshow figures
« on: April 20, 2017, 10:26:55 AM »
I recently yanked my Sideshow Anakin Skywalker out of storage for a photo session. To my dismay I have discovered his leather is peeling.   :o  He's just in the box in the room, normal room temperature. Does anyone have any advice on preventing further damage?  I thought in the box he'd be safe.

Wow, I would have thought normal room temperature, with little humidity was the way to go. Maybe they need to get some air!

Unfortunately the pleather (faux leather) these figures are made with has a tendency to peel in time. It happened to Medi Vaders and to some Sideshow and Hot Toys Marvel figures. Rubber also tends to crack. There is not much to do, maybe use some silicone spray to stop the spreading.

Though I don't have issues with my pleather/faux leather figures so far, except for the old Medicom Vader, which has a rub on the back, I always used silicone spray to protect them.

A few months ago, after reading other collector's opinions, I bought 303 Aerospace Protectant - https://www.amazon.com/303-30306-Aerospace-Protectant-Furniture/dp/B000XBCURW - and added a bit on all my pleather figures. It works also on various plastics and protects from UV too.

"303 Marine Aerospace Protectant

Great for use on vinyl awnings to keep them from fading and cracking

It can be used on car dashboard or faux leather upholstery too
