Title: wampa1's kit-bashes
Post by: wampa1 on August 27, 2015, 02:03:42 PM
Yo! Long time lurker, first time poster...

My favourite way to customise figures is to kit-bash, partly because I'm terrible at painting or molding anything....

Here's what I've been up to:

Farmboy Luke Skywalker

Swapped out the soft goods on the Death Star Escape Luke and replaced the belt from the VOTC Farmboy Luke.  Shaved down the 'corners' on the hip-joint to allow for more natural posing of the legs.

Death Star Escape Luke

Swapped out the lower tunic with the soft goods donated from a Hoth Rebel (who got Luke's in return).  Modified the hip-joint.

Bespin Luke Skywalker

VOTC Bespin Luke with TVC Dagobah Landing Luke head.

Echo Base Han Solo

TVC Bespin Han body with TVC Echo Base Han jacket and arms.  Added TBS Carbonite Han head.

Bespin Gown Leia

Replaced the pathetic TVC Bespin Leia headsculpt with the far superior Hoth Leia one.  Sliced off the back of her head and modified to allow for TVC Bespin Leia braids to be added.

Sandstorm Han Solo

TBS Carbonite Han base with modified shoulders and collar to allow the neck wrap and TLC Sandstorm head to sit flush.  Replaced lower arms with TLC Sandstorm Han and added belt.

Endor Han Solo

TBS Carbonite Han base with heaviliy modified shoulders to allow the vest to sit lower.  Added TVC Endor Han lower arms and belt.  Hoslter strap from TVC Bespin Luke.  Head is SAGA Legends Endor Han Solo modified into a ball joint.

I really like these! I'm actually thinking that not painting these looks even better!

That Bespin Leia is perhaps the best version of her that I have seen. You evidently are an expert with the razor blade knife too. Off to share.

And welcome to ISY!

Really, really nice!  I gotta say, these are my favorite types of customs.  I love making all the key, core characters perfect.  And Farmboy Luke and Endor Han are two of the figures most in need of these types of upgrades.

Took another bash at Endor Han.  Carbonite Han body (shoulders shaved to allow VOTC Endor Han jacket to sit lower), VOTC Endor Han jacket, forearms and hands, Celebration Luke holster strap, SAGA AT-ST Han Solo head modded to ball-joint.

The 'other' Sergeant Doallyn, who gets pushed down the stairs by Chewie.  Recipe is Jabba's Skiff Guard (the first Doallyn later retconned into Brock Starsher) head and Bane Malar body.

Good work on all of these.  Hasbro should take notes from your fixes.  I know I am.

Love Farmboy Luke and Sarge D.  I hope I speak for all OCD OTC collectors in saying, "We really wanted these two, Hasbro".
As much as I like Bane Malar, Doallyn is just 'must have.
.... And Farmboy Luke?   Nuf said.

'Average' Rebel pilot. Swapped out the lower legs of a short pilot with a tall pilot to create an average height pilot. Pictured here are Luke (short), Wedge (average) and Biggs (tall):

Jedi Luke. TVC Endor Capture and Armour Up Luke head modded for ball joint. The original head wasn't awful but looks a bit like a sprout. I prefer this one.

Bespin Han! I was always disappointed with TVC one; it was too wrinkly, had horrible hips and the head sculpt was off. I've made this one using Black Series Carbonite Han, POTJ Bespin Han, TVC Bespin Han, SAGA Legends Endor Han head missed to ball joint plus random hands I had in a parts bin

The arms are a better match colour wise in person but I might give the jacket a splash of paint.

I LOVE these customs.  Bespin Han is particularly good.  I too wanted to fix the TVC version.  So good!

Your custom Jedi Luke and Bespin Han figures look excellent!

Thanks.  I know it's not cool to blow your own horn, but I REALLY like my Bespin Han and think it's miles better than TVC version.  I've also now given him the more accurate gun that came with the Black Series ESB Vader.

Jedi Luke now also has the Endor gear (poncho, belt (the more accurate one that came with TVC Deleted Scene Luke), blaster and hat).

Nice job on the kit-bashes. Your Han really does look good!

Princess Leia as Jabba's prisoner. This has photographed badly, it looks better in person...
Anway, I've always really liked the POTJ Leia with its real chain and 'real' hair so I did a simple head swap on the Vintage Collection Leia and swapped the plastic chain for the real one.

IMO, That is absolutely the best Carrie Fischer likeness.  I JUST picked up that figure at Baltimore Comic Con last week, and I love it.  I never knew that the braid wasn't plastic.
Nice kit bash.

Here's a proof of concept for a more accurate comic book Leia that I may make in the future. She's kinda rough around the edges - her knees don't work, she has no waist articulation and there are some gaps in the seams. Still, if/when I make another I'll know what to look for. The plan is to learn how to use green stuff so I can do the hair etc...

I recognize some Scarlett parts in this Leia.
Sweet!

Yeah, 25th Anniversary Scarlett, Hoth Leia head, Snowbunny Padme body, Han Solo holster (modded), Celebration Luke gun and Ep. II Beru Whitesun softgoods (which work magnificently).  I've restored waist articulation with magnets and modded the gloves to look less like gauntlets.  I think the knees are a goner though : (

Everyone and their dad has made one of these but I hadn't seen anyone use the 5POA torso.  Lots of people compromised on Han's shirt style which I wasn't prepared to do.  Took a lot of modding to get it to work but just about got there with a magnet on the ball torso joint and the arms just kinda randomly fit when I was testing the joint so I just left them in.  Not happy with the hands so I'll see what I've got in my parts bin.

UPDATE: Deleted scene Biggs hands.  Gave the arms a light brushing with some dark paint.

Very nice take on this figure.  You've got some great work on this thread--I especially like the Bespin Han!  I think the legs work far better on your figure than they do on carbonite Han.

Nice customs; Leia looks great!
I'm trying to figure out a better way to do it.  I'd rather use the Hoth Leia body but they in inexplicably made it all muddy so will need some paint remover.

I'm taking notes on the Han, to me you nail it!

Thanks, Stan.  That means a lot coming from a seasoned customiser such as yourself : )

Speaking of Han, though, a few more updates.  I really like the 5 POA headsculpt but it's TINY and looks silly, especially next to unmasked Kylo.  I swapped it with the Black Series head, and painted the hair grey.  Also added a splash of colour to the little bullet things on the jacket.

That's the Han we should've had in the Black Series 3 3/4" in the first place. Gives me some inspiration, now that old Black Series are clogging the pegs again.

Thanks.  I still might make the odd tweak... maybe smooth off the torso joint line.  It's a bit too harsh at the moment (although better in person without photograph shadow on it).  The right arm also falls out extremely easily but does hold it's position if you're not too rough with it.
