Title: Darth samurai's dioramas
Post by: DarthSamurai on August 03, 2015, 09:20:53 PM
Hi all, I recently just started collecting and making dioramas. I love the rebels tv series, so for my first couple dioramas I decided to make some places from rebels. Here is Callous's office from the show. Like I said I just started collecting so I don't really have any of the characters from the show yet, but please don't hold that against me :) . Also any tips or suggestions you guys have would be awesome. Thanks.

Here is a tatooine house I've been working on. The moisture is an interesting mix. Who knew you could actually make something with 2 pvc pipe fittings, balsa wood, a water bottle cap, a wooden dowel, and a pushpin.  :)

Here is my newest dio. This time I wanted to try to make a vehicle, and in keeping with the rebels theme, I made the civilian transport that is used in rebels.

I just got some woodworking equipment set up, so I am going to be transitioning to making dioramas out of wood as opposed to foam board.

Way to go. Can't wait to see what you do with that equipment. Got your vehicle on the front page.

been a little busy to be working on dioramas lately, but here is what I've started working on. this is a work in progress on a Tantive IV diorama I am doing. this is one I am doing it out of plywood, so i am having fun experimenting with that. Already, I think I like using wood a lot better than something like foamboard.

thanks guys! to populate the scene I bought the tantive IV set that has 2 stormtroopers, 2 rebel fleet troopers, and 1 darth vader. I am getting some more soon, and the goal is to recreate the first few scenes of A New Hope. One question though, i am going to need to recreate smoke for the scene. I have been advised to maybe use dry ice and water, but do you guys have any suggestions? thanks.

I often thought about making smoke too. You could use cotton balls (sparingly or it looks like cotton balls), spun glass or a product they call angel hair (used for Christmas decorations), they make smoke generators for model trains but you will have to build the dio on a platform to place the generator underneath. Dry ice works great when photographing but not to display.

Barry Riddle is a guy who is well known for making smoke effects and explosions using cotton and led lighting. I would check out some of his work on Facebook.

So last night I decided I wanted to try some baking soda/snow effects. I had some leftover foam board around so this is what I came up with.
