Title: TSHobbies Custom figures
Post by: TSHobbies on February 08, 2015, 05:59:16 PM
Hello everyone, just wanted to start sharing my custom 6" figures Im working on.
Heres my first completed figure in the 6" line..just a repaint sort of
I removed the molded on hair, and using the Dremel I replaced the head details on the back of the head. For paint I used Model Master acrylics, for the skin I used Panzer Olivgrun for the base color, and gave it various shades of highlights by mixing in some Vallejo Pale Sand.
The cane was also repainted. For the hair I used tiny bits of pillow stuffing attached with CA glue and then trimmed down.

thanks guys..Ive finished the details and have her primed..I'll post pics later today.
@spud, your rigght, these are getting harder to get..usually close to $20 now on ebay..Ive got a second one, but not sure yet what I want to do with it. Was thinking of an Imperial Officer, or mandalore armor like you mentioned.
Title: Re: TSHobbies Custom figures
Post by: TSHobbies on February 24, 2015, 02:16:49 PM
quickly finished the Scout trooper up last night..probably isnt the best custom Ive ever done..just wanted a quickie..I also fixed the visor on the helmet too..think I'll do that with the rest of my scouts..I just painted a white trim piece around the lens to make it look more to size and shape that it should be. I also have a new male head coming that I'll use on the scout that I took the helmet from, that way I dont have an unused body layin around..

She looks absolutely fantastic.  Consider this recipe stolen!  I love it!  Her jumpsuit works perfectly for the under-suit of the scout trooper and your sculpted armor looks amazing.  The paint job on the boots looks like the white paint may have given you some issues, but it may just be the image...  I love the repainted blonde hair, she looks like an imperial with that color for sure!
again, fantastic job! I love it.

thanks guys.
your right about the figure, its a good starter for any of the troopers ..sure wish these were easier to get.
no trouble with the white,it was airbrushed on..the black was hand painted with a nice shaky hand lol

heres my latest piece..not exactly a creative one..but one of those must do kinda repaints...
the ROTJ version of Boba Fett.
..added the pouches to his belt, and repositioned the larger two. also had to add the red rope belt ,since that was basically destroyed while cutting the belt apart. also reworked the rifle, though its not exactly accurate. I'll probably redo that later. I also removed some of the details on his left wrist and made the flame thrower? box to it. And of course repainted most of him.

You ought to 3D Scan  your Force Unleashed Shaak Ti and put her up on there!

Nice work on the Talon by the way.

And daggone you are gonna have to get a webcam!
Title: Re: TSHobbies Custom figures
Post by: TSHobbies on April 04, 2015, 02:49:06 PM
Heres a bit of an update... been trying to smooth the skin ...at first I thought it would be ok just to sand it smooth...nope...these 3D printed parts are filled with millions of little air bubbles, so sanding alone just doesnt do it, so you have to fill them..I used Mr Surfacer brushed on. I applied maybe 3 coats ,with sanding in between each coat using a fingernail sanding sponge.
You can see the difference between the two parts shown, belly and leg.
I also did some extra work on the head..the forehead should be a little more prominent ,so I broke out the Aves and ..hopefully havent messed it up..I think the paint job will help define the eyes better.
and last, while Im at it, Im working on an Aayla Secura..

I keep considering the investment of a 3D printer, around $1,000 kind of steep, and then the scanner is more, but your work on Talon is making it harder to resist!
Title: Re: TSHobbies Custom figures

I appreciate you filling us in on the Talon Figure and those air bubbles.

This look like a lot of fun!
I've been looking at getting some 3D printed stuff for some projects.
Did you have to deal with those gnarly
Horizontal printing lines that the printers leave?
I know as tech improves the lines are less noticeable.

really looking forward to seeing ayla finished , great start !
Title: Re: TSHobbies Custom figures
Post by: TSHobbies on April 07, 2015, 04:32:21 PM
Thanks guys!.. the print lines were almost none..but it did have a sponge like texture...which I ended up using Mr Surfacer to smooth out the skin and some light sanding...though some areas I sanded too much and eliminated some of the tattoo marks..so I had to go by reference to try and get them somewhat close...not easy...
heres a bit of an update...didnt want to spoil it and show the whole figure yet...but I finished resculpting the eye area....spread them out a bit, made the cheeks a little fuller, and broadened the forehead a bit..got started on the paint too! a boy are those tatts fun...

Post by: TSHobbies on April 10, 2015, 03:03:12 PM
finally got this one done....fwewwww..that took alot longer than I expected..but I liked the end results..its a great figure. the joints are really loose ,so you have to tighten them up with some supler glue.. she doesnt come with a light saber either..so had to make my own. I just twisted up some floral wire in the drill, and stretched some clear red acrylic rod to make the saber.. the tattoos were a PITA,but I got through it..not exact mind you but theyre there.

Title: Re: TSHobbies Custom figures
Post by: TSHobbies on April 11, 2015, 08:24:18 AM
thankyou guys!  I think the hardest part about the tattoos was figuring out what and where to put them..the model comes with them as raised details, but I sanded off alot of it,especially on the head tails. I bought it from Shapeways, here..and also, was just pointed to the lightsaber set he offers that has her saber in it..didnt realize this, so I get that soon to replace the one I made.

Just can't get over that Yoda, looks great as does your many other customs. I hope you don't mind if I use your idea for the hair, and the eyes, did you make the pupils bigger or was it more involved. I think the eyes on the production Yoda is the biggest and most noticeable drawback.
