Title: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 10th, 2021
Post by: Tamer on October 18, 2014, 06:25:12 AM
Ok, fresh off the week before where Dan asked our questions to Hasbro, I thought it might be cool to just have a running thread where we post our questions to so we can post them as we get them in our head, not when its time for us to get the question set ready. If you can, set your question off with a different color so I can find it easier so when it is time to put a question list together we can be ready for it.

So, I am gonna start this thread out with this questions.

Now that Marvel is back into the fold as far as producing Star Wars Comics, is there any likelihood we could see a return to the Comic Two-Packs that were so popular a few years ago (pack that comes with a comic book, two characters, packaged up nicely)?

Or would any new comic eu characters or versions be considered for figure production? New eu vs old eu

Also, about the joes. We love em, we want em, we need em, how about some more?
Please don't let the line falter before gi joe 3 comes out.

Clint, did you see how they answered the one JOE Question?

Shoot me your JOE Questions. I will try to get em to Derryl.

Joe from Hasbro said that going forward any new canon EU characters and vehicles are available to Hasbro to make toys of.

Comic packs would be awesome, but I bet if they did come back, they would be 5poa :(

Any thing you are basing that on Dan or just their tendency to do that nowadays?

Nothing concrete, it just seems to be the way the wind is blowing. I do not see Hasbro investing in another super articulated line when everything they do seems to be moving towards cheaper to produce 5POA. If Comic Packs came back, I could easily see Mission Series packages with a taller backer board to accommodate the comics.

Here's another one I have been thinking lately and wished we had asked:

We keep hearing that distribution issues are being fixed and case assortments regulated and that sounds great, but why aren't REBELS Action Figures on the pegs here about a month since that new TV Series debuted? Was this a distribution issue?

Folks it looks like we will be going to Toy Fair this year (at the very least the Hasbro Presentation) so if you have any questions for the Big H now be sure to post them.

I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TOLD THEY WILL NOT ANSWER ANY EPISODE 7 QUESTIONS SO ITS NO USE TO POST EM FOLKS.

We have seen packaged and loose images of the six inch Bossk and Wampa. Are the galring paint issues like no paint on the Wampa horns or the yellow joint on Bossk's feet being addressed?

For our last Q and A Session you hinted that playsets were  not out of the realm of possiblities, any chance we could get some elaboration on that?

There is confusion about Hasbro's plans for the 3-3/4 inch line and differences in articulation between the Black Series and Rebels etc. Will all figures across this scale eventually assume the newer five points of articulation model? Thank you.

Hmm, already know the Joe news,
This is going to sound old

Dear big H;
Obviously this is going to be a big year for the brand.
I can't think of a better way to amp it up and possibly eat up old stock on the shelves than by offering a redemption figure this year.
How about it?  I Can come up with names of about 50 figures from the past that would be perfect for a limited re release of one for this redemption if that could be an option.
It wouldn't necessarily need to be an all new fig unless it was to be an early bird type release for the movie that we are not talking about.

Comon Hasbro, we want a redemption fig

- Will there be a 3 3/4" exclusive at Celebration this year?

- Will PT/OT figures still be part of the line after the release of TFA?

- Will at least some of the Force Awakens 3 3/4" figures retain full articulation?  (If they allow questions about the TFA line at all...)

Folks Episode 7 questions have been announced as off limits. If Dan can squeeze something in I am sure he will, but they were pretty up front about not sharing any Episode 7 Information at Toy Fair from an email I got on Monday.

Thanks guys for doing this... very much.

1 - If you and Jakks Pacific can make huge 30" scale hollow figures and vehicles, why can't we get some playsets/dioramas like that?  Such as an Imperial turret tower close to three fee tall?  People would buy many of those over the X-Wing you made and it would be a very simple design and you could keep costs down... please take this idea to your team and see what can be done.  Essentially, we just want some cool environments to display our figures on, and hollow playsets would do the trick!

2 - We are seeing a rival company making now dioramas for the 6" scale stuff (one that comes with a Vader).  This is such a simple idea and we keep asking for some sort of diorama pieces over and over (especially in the 3.75" scale).  Why is this something that your company won't do?  If you really feel this is something you can't pull off, can you work with Disney to make it happen - even as Disney store exclusives?  Even small scenes with just a background plastic wall that come with an army builder would be a great start... there is such a demand for this stuff that BBTS already sold out of their pre-order within just a couple days!

3 - We're seeing a price hike of unprecedented proportions on basic Black Series 3.75" figures at Target.  Is this just them price experimenting or have you increased prices for your buyers?  We understand that over time costs increase, but collector reactions thus far has been extremely negative, if this is indeed true.  What is Hasbro doing to make the figures "worth" that sort of investment?

4 - With increasing costs for consumers, we're naturally looking for ways to make the hobby more affordable for us.  Will Hasbro be offering more multipacks for army building to make this easier to swallow?  Generally multi-packs cost less per figure, so we'd like to have that option, which hasn't been an option for us in a long time.

5 - Very questionable figure selections have frustrated collectors.  Why do we see figures make it into assortments that are going to instantly pegwarm?  We're referring to Rebel pilots mostly here, which refuse to move off the pegs.  It would make so much more sense to bring back figures that are in insanely high demand, like the Emperor's Royal Guard, Gamorrean Guard, Ponda Baba, etc.  Yet we don't see that happening.  Why?  Are you unaware of what the market wants?

6 - How is it that we are getting a 6" scale Wampa, but not a new 3.75" scale one?  Or a new Probot?  We really, really want new ones... anything on the horizon?

7 - Why haven't we seen a B.A.D. mold for original trilogy C-3PO yet?  According to forum posts and chat boards, collectors would much rather see that C-3PO coming out instead of any other version.  Is one coming?

Thanks guys...

I want to know if they plan to increase production so we can actually buy them in brick and mortar stores or if its a matter of the retail stores not ordering enough. Why there are only a few pegs for 3.75s and 6" they act like they're rationing figures out like we're in some figure shortage. Or if it makes a good excuse to increase prices by starving the market.

While thinking about any questions I have for Hasbro I realized they were all just suggestions for figures and vehicles I would like to own. After giving it some more thought I would like to if Hasbro recognizes that there was major distribution issues last year and plan to do a better job September 4th or around that time when The Force Awakens opens.
Last year I was insanly pissed off at them with how horrible the Star Wars line was sold in my area. Our local WalGreens didnt get a single 6 inch figure until late Dec.What it boils down to me is I dont care what they make,I am going to buy something.I have since 1977,just get the product out there better. If they know they are going to have issues do another "early bird" style sale. And get the products out in a even way.dont just flood the online vendors with the "cooler" stuff.
Wow...sorry about the rant,Ill stop lol
Put simply my question is...Do they realize  how poorly last year was handled??
Sorry if its a rude question and I respect if its not brought up.
thank you for this time to "vent"
Take care

Looking at your new REBELS AT-DP and the other walkers I have in my collection, why do you leave the openings in the inner side of the legs? Any chance you might cover up the walker legs or create a snap type insert to cover them for any future reissues?

With the new star wars marvel comics that are coming out, are there going to be new figures of the characters of these new comic serie? Maybe this would be a good opportunity for new comic packs. For instance a figure of young kanan, with the comic about him that is coming out.

Why doesn't Hasbro use the SL11 stormtrooper head on the Black Series body? Also I would like a torso without the slot in the back like the torso on the earlier SL25 Stormtrooper. We were promised a definitive stormtrooper in the black series line and its just a re-release. Highly disappointed.

Thought of another...

Why do we keep seeing Jedi Starfighers in circulation?  They were massively overproduced in the SOTD line, as well as the Movie Heroes packaging...

Now we fast forward to the smaller $25-ish scale, and we see it happening all over again... the first wave of Rebels vehicles sold great, then Wave 2 is filled with more Jedi Starfighters (and Slave Ones), which are just jamming the retail space.  Why do you keep putting these back out?  They are not moving at retail.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of January 7, 2015

And another...

Rebels/Legends Wave One basic figures are nearly impossible to find.  Toys"R"us stores got in a few cases around Thanksgiving, Target stores no longer get in full cases of anything, and Wal-Mart seems to have lost complete confidence in the brand.  Even online stores can't get Wave One in stock.

What's going on here, and how is this going to be fixed?  How did this happen, especially with a great new cartoon show to coincide?  And this isn't just collectors frustrated, parents with kids who want the toys have now moved onto other stuff because they aren't going to be interested in empty peg space in the stores - they'll just go back to LEGO and TMNT... which they are doing...

I just can't stop myself... so here's another idea.

It seems that reps are not in the field like they used to be... we used to see Hasbro reps from time to time in the stores, but we don't see evidence of these "eyes in the field" anymore.  Years ago, we'd see them, and occasionally have conversations about the figures, what was hard to find, and about distribution in general.  But this doesn't seem to be happening anymore, and we think it could help things out quite a bit.  Is there a reason for this apparent change?

Justin, can't fault your logic. Folks keep em coming in. Probably gonna halt this as of early next week so I can have time to get Dan the questions in a logical order.

And remember folks they will give him about ten minutes to ask questions so we may not be able to ask them all. Now I will say last time they really gave Dan some awesome time, even after his regularly scheduled interview was over, but we just don't know till we get there.

Woah!!! Almost missed out!

1. Will you continue the 6" beast assortment with a Dewback in 2015?

2. What plans for a 6" scaled Snow Trooper, At-At Driver and/or Imperial Gunner in the future?

3. Any specifics on future 6" trilogy vehicles to follow-up the speeder bike released last year?

4. Boba Fett, Bossk, IG-88.......whose the next 6" bounty hunter on tap for 2015/16?

That's all I have. I was thinking about specifics but I've come to realize Hasbro is just as political as our friends in Washington when it comes to the economics of the industry and don't like to get in depth with distribution or cost.

I would like to know why inside openings are left on Walker or AT-ST, AT-DP or associated Walker type vehicles. I understand it is easier to create the parts this way in the building process, but wouldn't it be great to create some snap on covers or something so the legs look fully enclosed?

You can also email them to me at tamer@imperialshipyards.net with the subject line "SDCC 2015 Hasbro Q n A" and I can compile them.

Remember, this is a courtesy that Hasbro has extended to us for years and while non of us can admit to being totally satisfied with all of the product they have created we also need to make sure our questions are worded in a decent manner. I will be frank, I will not submit any questions that are vulgar, use profanity, or are designed to insult or do not ask an answerable question. Also, priority will be given to those questions that are well versed, written, and thought out. Remember last time out they didn't even hint at any Force Awakens Products so its no use going there as I will not ask our reporter to submit those.

I am wondering this:

What would you say is your most popular line right in regards to order requests? How does your collector oriented 3 and 3/4 inch line fall into that mix? Do you still see that as a feature focus going forward or will lines like the 6" or Saga Legends (less articulation) see a greater emphasis?

You have created a fantastic figure in the form of the new 6" SDCC First Order Stormtrooper. I am wondering one thing though, why the single jointed elbows instead of the standard double jointed elbows you had on troopers before this?

Hasbro should know by now that a kids attention span is small to say the least, they like something for a little then move on to the next best or new item, they don't have the imagination we as kids from the 70s and 80s did. With that being said, do you think by continuing to produce less articulated and new scale sized figures without the accessories that you do for other lines (example "Marvels w BAF") that you will continue to Alienate the Collectors who have been collecting since the introduction. You already know that you are going to loose the kids in general,  not wise to loose us as well.....What are you going to do to keep us and our money flowing into Hasbro's hands......????????????????

Interesting question Lordtoys, I am not familiar with "Marvels w BAF" if you can clarify that for me. I also know, from asking similar questions in the past, that there answer is that kids love the new less articulated lines and they are selling like hotcakes. I know, I know, we probably ought not get started.

He is referring to the Marvel Legends line which includes parts with each figure to build an additional figure when the entire wave is purchased. BAF = Build A Figure, same concept as the BAD (Build A Droid) line from Star Wars.

Interesting question Lordtoys, I am not familiar with "Marvels w BAF" if you can clarify that for me. I also know, from asking similar questions in the past, that there answer is that kids love the new less articulated lines and they are selling like hotcakes. I know, I know, we probably ought not get started.

Duh! I should have been able to figure that out. Thanks Dan.

Boy, they are biting on this one, aren't they Shawn?

Back to the marvel baf sort of question,

Has anyone considered a build a figure part pack in option for the 6inch black series line?

One of the most popular and more expensive lines, the BAD line could be revitalized in the six inch scale.

I guess I have a question. Does Hasbro have plans to produce Jawas or Ewoks in 6" scale and if so will it be a 2 pack, deluxe or single?

Both of those questions will be added Clint and JDeck.

As far as biting here not so much, but I did get quite a few emails this year. I am thinking about switching over to that full time for our Q and A in the Fall.

What do you folks think about that? Do you like to post your questions here or would you rather email me?

I'd rather post them. That way we can review each others questions and come up with ideas. It seems like there's less questions this time probably because they can't say anything about ep.7. Its the big question on everyone's mind and how it'll effect the entire star wars line. We should re ask the questions that they said ohh we can't disclose that information until later. I'd like to be able to ask yes or no questions and get yes or no answers. Sometimes its like an interview with a politician.  But they give the best answers they're allowed to, and it gives you a general idea of their plans. This Fall will be the opportune time to ask the questions we've all been wondering, that's when you want the most accessibility for fans.

Are we going to see more lame re-issues like Endor Han in the new 3 3/4" Black Series? You made a great move re-issueing rare figures like Starkiller, Bastila Shan and Darth Malgus, but really...Endor Han?
How cool would it be if you'd re-release the ARC Captain or the Clone Lieutenant. They would fly off the pegs. Let's face reality: a bad figure choice means peg warmers, means no restocking, means no sales, means frustration on the customer's side.

Are there plans to sell the new 3 3/4" Black Series figures in Germany as well? If so, who are going to be the distributors? TRU? Müller? Rossmann?

Folks remember we always need to be professional with our questions. If we start off with an insult to a figure that is gonna do one thing, make them defensive and we will not get an answer. And this is me speaking from years and years of past experience.

I know we are all upset with some of the reissues and lack of movement, but lets frame our questions with good valid points. We can still get the same message across and perhaps get some needed change. How bout this one:

1. We have noticed the seeming change with the TFA release to five points of articulation in regards to three and three quarter action figure movement. We all breathed a sigh of relief when we saw Wal-Mart was going to carry the more articulated line. Will that line become standard again or more of a store exclusive sort of line? Also, will it include more than three or four figures a wave? We are a little worried that our beloved action figure line is getting the action taken out of it.

Which leaves the question of distribution in other countries open.
I'll retract my question in regards of lame re-releases, but still would like to know if and how distribution in a major European country like Germany is planned.

I am kinda wondering about this:

With the success of your 6" TFA TIE Fighter offering, how soon could there be a TFA X-Wing to chase it? Perhaps even do decos of both colors (regular white and blue and then the Black Stealth version)?

As a Toy Player during the 70's and 80's and a Die Hard Collector from the 90's to now, I have spent Thousands upon Thousands of Dollars on the 3.75" SA Figures and Vehicles, you gave us a lot of Great Figures and Vehicles until the last Couple of Years, now all you seem to put out is Trash, Sorry to be Blunt, but if the Shoe Fits, well then it fits. Then to throw insult in our Faces you try to say the 6" Figures are better and throw nothing but these things to us hoping that we would all bite into these Oversized Pieces, and cut back on the things we as Collectors have asked for over and over, Did Hasbro really think that we were gonna shelve all our Collections and Start Over? So the question is, are you going to continue and give us the SA 3.75" Figures and More to Scale Vehicles that we all want for all the Films or do we have to start spending our Money on Something and Someone else?

I have a few questions meybe they're more like complaints but use them if you'd like.

The plastic on some of the 6"TBS figures seems very soft especially the armored figures. Is it the same plastic you use for 3.75"? Would you consider a harder plastic for droids, helmets and armored figures like stormtroopers?

Do you use 3d scanners or anything like that when developing your figure/vehicle sculpts?

Have you ever thought of collaborating with SideShow collectables or any other premium manufacturer, to make some semi-premium 6" exclusives?

Have you thought about making 1/5 mini helmets? They look pretty cool, if they're correct.

I hear rumors of a "Chrome Series" please enlighten.

(If its not the answer to the previous question)
Will you ever come back with the Vintage Collection with vintage style cardbacks?
(I know its been asked several times, but no direct answer.)

Will you ever make 3.75" TBS vehicles? If so will they be top quality like some of the exclusives in the past?  ie. TRU "Big wing" TIE Fighter and WM Falcon.

We NEED a 6" ESB Snowtrooper. When?

Any hints on future obscure 6" OT Alien characters?

Why so many 6" clone troopers and no battle droids?

Would you say the target demographic for the Black series line are adult collectors?

With soooo many canon characters not immortalised in 6" form why go with Rebels characters? Also I like ANH Luke but that will make Luke #6.

Would you like my 6" figure wish list?

I have more questions but they're more like suggestions, and I can't figure out how to phrase them in the form of a question.

Hmmm, we have seen a lot of pics of upcoming 6 inchers including various exclusives since force Friday, and some concept case type presentations from before.
Can you show us something in the six inch line we haven't seen yet?
You gotta have some aces in your sleeves here. It is turning into long sleeve season, after all.

Ok... somehow I missed the last round, so here we go...

1 - When can we finally expect to see some killer 3.75" playsets?  Other brands are doing this in the toy aisle and are obviously succeeding... Imaginext is now known for this, and even Terraria has a playset that kids are all over - why is Hasbro ignoring this market?  Or why not at least try simple plastic "background walls" that snap together and each one comes with a trooper?  As long as the quality was there, the market would support these.  We are literally starved for display environments.  If you ever do it, don't give it a half-hearted effort.  That's just guaranteeing a fail.  Can you work out something with Disney or just allow another company that wants to give this a shot do it?  We've been waiting for 20 years for this to happen now...

2 - When are we going to see the quality again that Hasbro used to be known for?  For example, what happened with the black squadron X-Wing?  Not only is it painful to try and get Poe to fit in there and is this thing WAY to small, but the plastic leaves fingerprints on it when touched, BB-8 has very sparse paint, and the cannons are warped beyond belief.  It's so bad that people are returning them to stores.  How did this happen?  Similar issues with the new 3.75" TIE fighter (but not as bad).  Lots of people love the sculpt on the new 3.75" scale TIE fighter, but the wings are really flimsy - even warping for people.  Some of these TIE fighters even collapse under their own weight.  Again - how did ANY of this get past quality control?

3 - Kids really love building things... so why not more Star Wars "build" features?  The build-a-weapon is kind of cool, but these things are so random and odd looking, things that we are more familiar with would entice people to chase that stuff more.  Like the droids you used to do - or even build-a-trooper or build a "background."  Or my goodness, some sort of big pieces in their own sets that snap together for scenes like those AMAZING Walking Dead sets.  That would be most amazing thing you've ever done for the Star Wars brand.

4 - Was there consideration to increase articulation on the TFA basic line?  5POA is so limiting... we don't need 14 points per figure, but a mix of 8-12 points for the majority of figures would be more welcome.  Why is it one extreme or the other nowadays?

5 - When are we going to see some of the super rare figures that are in demand back in circulation on basic cards or in some sort of battle packs?  Like TVC Ponda Baba TVC Royal Guard?  BTW, a Royal Guard 2-pk would be pretty awesome, packed with Palpatine and a new throne.

6 - Name one NEW figure (or resculpt) from each of the OT films that are coming in SA style in the 3.75" line that we haven't already seen... GO!

7 - What was up with the lack of product on Force Friday?  50 people in line at Toys"R"us, but the store has only 48 figures... why didn't they have more like 480 figures?  That would of made more sense.  Same thing goes for every major retailer.  People walked away VERY frustrated and even store employees were in bad moods over it.  What happened?

8 - Articulation and attention to detail can turn a bland design into something special.  For example... the 5POA Resistance Trooper looks pretty sad (sorry).  But the 6" version looks amazing.  Can we expect to see a 3.75" version with representative details as the upcoming 6" scale one?

Thanks guys!  Ask all those for me... lol

Would Hasbro be open to a different way of creating pilot helmets in the 5 POA line? The "banana visor" ruins otherwise nice figures (Atsy, Resistance Troopers, Poe Dameron, and Snap Wexley).

As Hasbro uses the same digital files for both the Black Series 3.75 and Black Series 6 inch, is there a chance of seeing fan favorite characters currently slated for the 6 inch line (Ahsoka Tano, Darth Revan, and realistic style Kanan) in the 3.75 line?

Why is Hasbro approaching the 3.75" line with such extreme ends of the spectrum?  5POA vs. Over-articulation... yes, the Walmart TBS figures have too much articulation and the assembly of these figures is overly complicated... ball jointed hips, wrists and waists are not needed and in some cases take away from the aesthetics of the figure.

Instead, why not get back to the quality the market loved back from 2005-2012 by dropping some of this enhanced articulation?  Would that not help get MSRP closer to $10-$11 range?
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of Oct. 1st, 2015
Post by: CHEWIE on February 03, 2016, 09:35:26 PM
Would it be fair now to say that the TBS Black Series 6" scale TIE Fighter didn't go over so well for the retailers?

Instead, why didn't we see an investment into better quality vehicles in the 3.75" line?  Such as a higher quality X-Wing and a few other all NEW vehicles or beasts from the film, or even a cool playset like the Starkiller base or Maz's castle?

The new Battlefront game rocks.

Are you releasing some figures from it in the 3.75" line?  Seems like all you need to do is kit bash existing parts from your library of figures to put out some awesome army builder packs... we'd love to see a Shock Trooper in 3.75" scale... and we're not talking 5POA here.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of Oct. 1st, 2015
Post by: CHEWIE on February 03, 2016, 09:41:40 PM
We get it that a perceived drop in demand makes a company look for ways to make the product cheaper.  Hence, 5POA.

BUT, with increased demand for Star Wars again, we should be well past the 5POA days moving forward.  So are we going to see you go back to a mainline product in the 3.75" scale that's more comparable with what you used to produce from 2005-2012?

For those wanting to know about Rogue One we sort of received a communication about it yesterday,

"Hope this note finds you well! You are all set on our RSVP list for Hasbro's annual Entertainment Brand Preview event at Toy Fair on Saturday, 2/13. We are looking forward to seeing you next weekend, and wanted to reach out and clarify what Hasbro's Star Wars presence will be at this year's show.

We wanted to let you know that there will be no toys based on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story shown at Toy Fair this year. While there will be a small selection of new Star Wars toys revealed at Toy Fair and in the days leading up to it, none of them will be directly based on the new characters from the upcoming film."

So, I wouldn't expect much on that front.

Folks we were able to get a Question and Answer Session set up with Hasbro for SDCC once again!

So get your burning questions in here and I will get em loaded and ready for our site reporter Todd at SDCC who has graciously given us some of his busy time during the con. Thanks Todd!

Remember, the better worded and well thought out questions, will have a greater chance of making the question list. Please also remember that Hasbro has also graciously given us some of their time and while even I will admit to not being happy with all of their creations we need to respectful, responsible, and professional when we write our questions. I am not saying you cannot point out issues with their action figures, but any blatant flaming questions that are just bash Hasbro will be deleted.

I am also not sure how many questions they would be willing to answer about Rogue One so be aware that if we submit them we may just get the ole Lucasfilm won't let us talk about that yet.

Questions List so far (new ones will be added to this list):

1. Will there be other retailers besides Wal-Mart to receive your super articulated 3.75" line?

2. How successful would you say the 6" The Force Awakens TIE Fighter was? Is there another possibility that we will see a full size 6" vehicle offering again going forward? Perhaps in the Original Trilogy Line Up?

3. Will there be 1:18 scale reissues of older Star Wars vehicles or even new ones that will not include the Nerf play features but focus a tad (just a tad) more of the collectors market? How well did that Nerf shooting Falcon work out for you anyway?

4. Any chance once again for a 6" black series scaled Dewback?

5.Will we see a 3.75 equivalent of recently released 6 inch figures, R5-K6 for example is going for silly money on ebay so the demand is there, particularly with Rogue One on the horizon.

6. How is distribution of 3.75" super-articulated figures in Europe going to be handled? At this point in time our only way to get these figures is find somebody in the US to buy them for us and ship them to Europe. Which is very complicated and expensive.

7. As a kid, I never used the firing missiles or electronics that the 3.75 vehicles included. Now, we've seen the TFA Falcon have a Nerf feature, and now there is also an A-Wing with a Nerf feature. Is there a large appeal for the nerf firing feature in your vehicles?

8. Have you evaluated more limited production or collectors club options for collectors who are interested in 3.75 SA? Boss fight studios and I think even go joe and he man used to have this.

9. Collectors are always interested in items that were close to being made but just never got done. Can you let us know some figures that were shelved in the past? Some rumors to get you started (noghri, anakin solo, new Yakface, pong Krell)

10. Any hope for future characters from the clone wars or the new comics for us Jedi lovers?

11. Any chance you would bring the fan poll to 3.75" to gauge interest in quantities?

12. What is the status of The Black Series figures that were due to be released prior to TFA event last year?  In particular: Tzizvvt, Shasa Tiel, Barada, and Vedain among others.  Are they still on schedule to be released at some point?

13. With Disney now owning the rights to Star Wars, and doing a great job with their own "in house brands" will you consider collaborating with them to make a 3.75" scale Death Star environment?  Their PVC figures are about that scale anyway.  Bottom line, we've been waiting most of our lives now for a Death Star playset and if one's not coming for Rogue One, we would be happy to see another company make this happen.

14. With the assembly style of the 5POA figures, customizers can't "boil and pop" these things, hence preventing us from making mass purchases of things other people don't want multiples of.  Example - Goss Toowers and General Hux.  If these figures could easily have their arms/legs removable (like most pre-2013 figures), we'd buy more and this would help prevent backup of pegwarmers at retail (the issue is the torso plastic is hard and does not soften when warmed up - this also leads to manufacturing paint coloring not matching up on torsos vs. legs/arms, but that's a different issue altogether).  That being said, look at the Quiggold figure - he's the ONE figure in the TFA line with a soft torso - love it!  Can Hasbro start making figures more in this style (with softer torsos) if we have to settle for minimal articulation?

15. The Revenge of the Sith Line had a better mix of figure articulation, creatures, vehicles and even playsets.  By comparison, that line was much better received by both children and adults.  Will Hasbro look to go back closer to that model?

16. How would you gauge the success of the Build-A-Weapons?  Has there been any thought of replacing these with some improved articulation to the figures, or alternate heads, stands, or even droid parts?

17. How would you describe your distribution of Star Wars Products at this point? Do you still feel there are any issues with poor distribution and are there any plans to correct it?

18. How satisfied do you feel the general consumer is with the 3.75" 5 points of articulation line? Are there any plans to add more articulation to this line at any point? Perhaps not full arty, but more movement? Its awful hard to pose one of those 5 poa figures!

19. I was playing Battlefront a bit last night with my son - and it brought back great memories of the Battlefront sets that Hasbro used to release back with the older games.

So, on that note - will we be seeing some new Battlefront multi-packs in the 3.75" scale again?  It would be a great opportunity to get some SA army builders back in the mix, including a repainted Sandtrooper mold using the Imperial Shocktrooper paint scheme.  Retail would have a hard time keeping these in stock due to a starving demand for 3.75" SA army builders.

20. Your build a figure pieces for your Marvel Brand are extremely popular. Have you ever thought about doing build a figure pieces in the 6" Line Up? What are your thoughts for doing this for the Star Wars Brand? It would be awesome!

21. Has Hasbro been looking at Amazon and what they are charging for most figures and ships? What is Hasbro planning to do with the  crazy pricing that Amazon and other second hand market sellers are charging for figures and vehicles?

22. What kind of a compromise would Hasbro be willing to do for collectors that want The Vintage Collection 3.75 fully articulated figures  to come back  without just making an exclusive line that is limited to one retailer?

Separate Question for PR Group (I can send this one separately):

Do they see the over overwhelmingly negative sentiment collectors view the 5 POA figures with?

I have some questions.....(I promise to be nice)...

1. Will there be 1:18 scale reissues of older Star Wars vehicles or even new ones that will not include the Nerf play features but focus a tad (just a tad) more of the collectors market? How well did that Nerf shooting Falcon work out for you anyway?

2. Any chance once again for a 6" black series scaled Dewback.

That's all I have......I've become so cynical over Hasbro's decisions the past few years I've pretty much given up on them. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't take questions at SDCC. They bring back the vintage line again and I'll warm to them...right now I have no faith in Hasbro doing any justice to merchandise relating to the the remaining films.

Will we see a 3.75 equivalent of recently released 6 inch figures, R5-K6 for example is going for silly money on ebay so the demand is there, particularly with Rogue One on the horizon.

2015/16 should, for me at least, have been the most exciting year for buying Star Wars toys since Hasbro brought back the 3.75" line in 1995. Yet, I have bought hardly any figures. The regular figures are now so expensive and poorly made that I have given up.

The decision to have The Black Series 3.75" figures as Walmart exclusives was such a bad move. I live in the UK, and Asda are supposed to have these figures, we have had the first 3 and that is it.

I would like to ask Hasbro:
Why are you STILL neglecting the [collectors of] 3.75" super articulated (or even semi super articulated) figures?
Why have you created a lucrative secondhand market for dealers, due to poor distribution and lack of availability?

I apologise for not having anything positive to ask, but that is how I feel about the current state of the Hasbro line.

How is distribution of 3.75" super-articulated figures in Europe going to be handled? At this point in time our only way to get these figures is find somebody in the US to buy them for us and ship them to Europe. Kinda complicated and expensive, right?

As a kid, I never used the firing missiles or electronics that the 3.75 vehicles included. Now, we've seen the TFA Falcon have a Nerf feature, and now there is also an A-Wing with a Nerf feature. Can Star Wars vehicles not stand alone without the Nerf brand also behind the product?

As a public relations professional, there have been many occasions where I believe Hasbro has not followed through with collector's input, or they have not been totally transparent with its consumers. Does Hasbro employ public relations professionals that *actively* deal with the Star Wars brand, and do they see the over overwhelmingly negative sentiment collectors view the 5 POA figures with?

I got this from Kareth Rihker in an email:

"
Have you evaluated more limited production or collectors club options for collectors who are interested in 3.75 SA? Boss fight studios and I think even go joe and he man used to have this.

Why the slow pace of releases. With TFA and rebels there are 100s of characters that could be released in both 3.75 and 6" scale. Why have we seen so few figures from these lines (eg Maz's club, Jakku, resistance personnel, Ketsu Onyo) at retail and exclusives.

Collectors are always interested in items that were close to being made but just never got done. Can you let us know some figures that were shelved in the past? Some rumors to get you started (noghri, anakin solo, new Yakface, pong Krell)

Any hope for future characters from the clone wars or the new comics for us Jedi lovers?

Any chance you would bring the fan poll to 3.75" to gauge interest in quantities?

Why does HTS always seem to have such a limited quantity during new releases. Many collectors end up paying premiums for figures on eBay rather than giving hasbro the cash up front. "

What is the status of The Black Series figures that were due to be released prior to TFA event last year?  In particular: Tzizvvt, Shasa Tiel, Barada, and Vedain among others.  Are they still on schedule to be released at some point?

I was out of town on vacation and missed this, but if there's still any time, I have a couple questions...  0/

1 - Why didn't the Hasbro team look back at the success of the ROTS line for inspiration in the TFA line?  That line had a better mix of figure articulation, creatures, vehicles and even playsets.  By comparison, that line was much better received by both children and adults.  Will Hasbro look to go back closer to that model?

2 - What is the point of the Build-A-Weapons?  Most people (including kids) are not interested in these.  Instead, some improved articulation to the figures, or alternate heads, stands, or even droid parts would make a lot more sense.

3 - With Disney now owning the rights to Star Wars, and doing a great job with their own "in house brands" will you consider collaborating with them to make a 3.75" scale Death Star environment?  Their PVC figures are about that scale anyway.  Bottom line, we've been waiting most of our lives now for a Death Star playset and if one's not coming for Rogue One, we would be happy to see another company make this happen.

Thank you!!

Oops, one more.

Tomorrow at noon eastern will the question submission deadline. I already think we have enough good ones, but that is the due date and time!

I plan on getting these sorted this morning.

Remember, this isn't a bash Hasbro affair. Sometimes I think we are a sorted lot who are quick to criticize and while there is always room for improvement, we do not want to pummel Hasbro who was kind enough to grant our question request. We will ask hard questions, just not flaming ones!

Ok, I have all the questions sorted so far. I changed the wording of some of them to try and get an answer and not making it inflammatory. I know Hasbro wouldn't answer a question posed in that way (from past experience) and could stop our q and a session. I know folks have some issues with Hasbro's figures and products (especially those 5 poa ones), but we need to stick to the issues and not insult the person we are asking the questions too.

How come the Marvel Legends come with spare pieces and build a character parts in every figure but Star Wars 6" have small figure with maybe 2 accessories and still at the same price as that Marvel full sized figure? Same question came to me when GI Joes had a bunch of added articulation and weapons for the same price as the Star Wars Vintage but lacked as many accessories.

Great idea: do an Imperial Battlefront battlepack and a Rebel one.
Super-articulated, of course.
This would fly off the shelves and finally bring the adult collectors and customizers back on board.

I know how they would answer this one. Licensing fees for Star Wars. I am not sure how that is working now that Hasbro is dealing with Disney, but trust me the SW Name increases the cost of everything and to keep the prices at a point we can remotely stand it that is why they don't go over the top. Now I like your idea of BAF Pieces and will pose a question along those lines.

I will try to be kind as well .... My questions Has Hasbro been looking at Amazon and what they are charging for most figures and ships ? What is Hasbro planning to do  with the  crazy pricing that Amazon and other second hand market sellers are charging for figures and vehicles . Hasbro says they have nothing to do with these pricing  But i thinkl otherwise. I feel we deserve a real answer and not a dance around this question such as we will look into this .  Who has $ 650.00 for  TVC  Falcon. or Almost $200 for a Darth Revan figure

My next Question is for years you have heard the cry to bring back Tvc fully articulated figures  and introduce play sets. And for years us loyal collectors who have kept the line going  get turned down and disappointed . We as collectors have been telling you what we want but you assume you know what we want  . What kind of a compromise would Hasbro be willing to do for collectors that want tvc 3.75 fully articulated figures  to come back  without just making an exclusive line that is limited to one retailer .

I just listened to the Q/A. First of all, thanks for your courage asking questions they may not be glad to have to answer to. Especially your follow up questions regarding the 3.75 line.
This is what i felt listening to Steve Evans answers and trying to "read between the lines".
- They seem to understand we collectors of 3.75 super-articulated figures feel kind of neglected but i doubt they'll really make anything about it. We will probably just get a couple exclusive figures just like we had for TFA and that's it.
He made it clear 3.75 stuff is children focused.
In fact, i even felt he was at some point bothered by the many 3.75 related questions. Maybe i'm wrong but...
- On the other hand, he was very enthousiastic when talking about the 6" line. Just compare when he spoke about more 6" vehicles with his answer regarding possible new 3.75 ones.
- Let's see about the possible playsets. I just hope it's not only 6" as well.
I feel a bit like "nothing new under the sun". I hope i'm wrong.

I'm tired of exclusives; every time SA 3.75" is mentioned, it's always an exclusive! Why do they have such a downer on SA 3.75" anyway? He says he knows how popular they are, but the production and distribution contradict that statement.

They are so frustrating; not only from a consumer point of view, but also as a business. I don't get their direction. In the past year they have churned out so much plastic rubbish, just after they were producing some of the best stuff they had made in years (VC).

I just don't get it (?).
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 12, 2016

My opinion is that Hasbro knows 3.75" SA collectors are loyal lifelong fans. Now that Star Wars is relevant again, they need new fans, like kids (5poa), or new collectors (6"). Once Star Wars dies down in relevance, after ep.9, they'll start focusing on lifelong fans again. Like they did after ep.3. Besides it takes longer to produce SA figures than it does to make a new Sw movie. That's just my assessment, I could be wrong. Either way they're feeling the heat.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 12, 2016
Post by: StarAlien70 on July 26, 2016, 08:50:07 AM
I agree JDeck.
And as always in business; loyal fans get strung along, while they seek new customers. My problem with that is, the fans that want original trilogy figures that still haven't been produced yet, well: None of us are getting any younger! I don't want to be only just completing my figure collection when I'm 90 something.

My other gripe is that the SA 3.75" figures that they are producing are only available as Walmart exclusives, and are turning up on the secondhand market for stupid money. That can't be good business for Hasbro or Walmart (?).

i hear you man.  I don't want to sound like I'm making excuses for Hasbro. This round of Q&A seemed a little more optimistic for SA 3.75". I could see other retailers asking for their own "exclusives". Hasbro has to know they're screwing their base.

Playsets for 6"?
Two words: size - price.

Sometimes it seems like they don't listen to the customer at all, but follow some product idea they are personally fascinated with.
They are detached from the fan base. Very detached. And too many people are kissing their shebs and are content with the crumbs they are feeding us.

I would like Hasbro to explain this... 6" is supposed to be so much better, I don't really see it. Geez, what a mug. Found that little comparison shot on JTA. This is why I can't get fully into the 6" Hasbro line.

Apparently they  explained it to Yakface. http://jediinsider.com/index.php?itemid=17620&catid=8
They said they'll change the lips, eyebrows and hood. But jeez! She needs a total overhaul. If I was Hasbro I wouldn't have even put that on display. Lol. Honestly this isn't the first time they've screwed up a 6" Leia figure. I'd say in most cases the 3.75" look better than their 6" counterparts. Bigger isn't better.

Folks I too feel your pain when it comes to the 3.75" line. Personally, from what I am hearing right now Wal-Mart and certain runs like EE's Astro Wave are probably about all we can hope to get as for SA Figs. Sad, but all we can do with these Q and A's is keep asking those questions so they keep hearing it and it will stay relevant. Lets keep after them!

As far as the six inch line it is their premier flagship now. They sent me their SDCC Exclusives yesterday and that Obi Pack is hands down fantastic folks. Watch this and tell me it isn't great!

Its easy to see where their main focus is. I am really enjoying their 6" line personally.

I'm still boycotting their 6" stuff. It does not change anything but it is my way to express the way i feel. I'll keep on buying older 3.75 stuff an ebay, paying no attention to the 5POA rubish they release while secretely hoping that staff in charge of marketing get sacked or something.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 12, 2016

Of course the SDCC exclusives look good. Good luck getting one though. If they constantly made 6"  product like that all the time, I'd be all over it.  For me the two biggest problems with the 6" figures are face paint applications and the joints. Not to mention they sometimes get the scale wrong (R2& Boushh Leia).  I don't like the soft plastic vinyl they use. It sucks for armor or droids, and it warps. Last Q&A my question was, if they'd consider using a harder plastic. No answer. Guess not,  cuts overall cost.  In 3.75" scale these problems are negligible, but they are amplified in 6" scale. They can hit some home runs, but they strike out too. I'd say 1 in every wave is a homer. That's just me, according to them they've exceeded expectations. What do I know.

Try building a squad of troopers in 6" and estimate the cost.
One word: prohibitive.

Try customizing by using parts from 3 or 4 different figures.
One word: prohibitive.

Hasbro has no, mark my words, no idea about our requirements or they simply don't care.

Interesting results for JTA's figure poll. http://www.jeditemplearchives.com/content/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=18342

TVC won hands down for first choice. duh! However I'm surprised BAD didn't score a little higher for second choice. 6" came in high on 4th choice. I hope Hasbro takes a gander at these results.
I would think a Build A figure line would be advantageous for retailers, and Hasbro. There would be a lower possibility for peg warmers, as you need all the figures to make the BAF.

Hey, I can see those images now. Wow, those look awesome Chewie. I like how simple they attach too. Who doesn't have a bunch of those lying around!

On a new question note folks, I got in an email from Hasbro this week about them doing a Google Hangout to ask the Hasbro Star Wars Brand Team 3 to 5 Questions! It will take place on Friday, September 16th and start around 10:30 AM.

I would like one of our questions to focus on how the figures (outside of the new characters from upcoming films) are selected for the retailer exclusive lines like the Wal-Mart Articulated Black Series 3.75" Waves. Is it Hasbro or Wal-Mart, the Design Team, etc. who figures out what figures to put in those lines? And perhaps would they be open to a Fans Choice type Poll in regards to figures we might like to see in that line too? (Similar to what they are doing at SDCC with the 6" Fans Choice Poll).

The other four questions you can help me with and I will be glad to ask on your behalf next Friday.

I am pretty sure they would ditch that one right out of the date. They will not be allowed to share any new movie information outside of what we have already seen revealed by Lucasfilm.

Any other questions folks? I have to send em in today!

Ok, our questions are sent in. I did try to ask the one about the Stormtroopers. We will see if we get the regularly canned response.

Which questions are we asking?

The walmart figure selection. And a few spin offs from that one for sure.

For the rest I picked a couple from the unanswered ones from SDCC. I also asked about getting a better AT-ACP than the one they have planned (in as polite a way as I could).

I also asked to see more of that new Stormy Bucket, an inside the helmet shot. I would love to see how that is gonna fit on folks' heads.

That and if we can see some 6" Dewback love after seeing Ron's latest custom offering.

Remember folks to keep this thread active. That way when they give us another slot to ask questions we will be ready. They are not always gonna give us weeks of advance notice about a q and a session. Like the google hangout they let me know about last week with questions due in just a few days!

I am not sure I understand what you mean Volker. We, as site heads, are given a bit of latitude to ask other questions as the even unfolds. The biggest thing is to keep this thread active with up to date questions so when we get another last minute invite we will be ready to go.

Well folks, I had the practice hangout last night and everything worked like a charm.

The event will not be public for all to see as they are getting ready to share new information with us that might not be able to be shared publicly quite yet. I will of course be doing a write up of the whole Q and A Session we have with them and will of course share what audio and video they later allow.

It is quite a neat thing to be invited to their inaugural event. It just goes to show you they are seeing what we are saying and they do appreciate our input.

Uhh, I think I know what hes talking about. The biggest question on people's minds  is SA 3.75", for the most part. The question either doesnt get answered or the answer is no.  Either way they're not  really listening to the consumer. So until they do, why ask.

Ok, folks I just finished up with the Hangout and want to write up the answers while I still have em in my noggin:

Ok, lets get to our questions for the Star Wars Brand Team (I am also including reference images):

1. Wal-Mart Exclusive Black Series Wave:

We see there is a new Wal-Mart Black Series super articulated wave and we like it! On that note a couple of questions:

How are the figures (outside of the new characters from upcoming films) selected for the retailer exclusive lines like the Wal-Mart Articulated Black Series 3.75" Waves?

For those carry forward figures (like from the vintage line) we work with our retailers, but we also get input from fan sites (like us) and from con goers. They made a point to point out that they know we are not always happy with the answers they give us, especially about articulation, and the number of figures currently available as far as waves, but they are looking to expand that in the future. They said to make sure we let them know what we want and to keep after them (of course I let them know that wasn't going to be a problem)

Is it Hasbro or Wal-Mart, the Design Team, etc. who figures out what figures to put in those lines?

Once again they pointed out that they really look to the fan base and are looking to expand that focus to really include fan sites (like ours) to keep the pegs filled with those articulated figures we want. They said they are definitely look at sites like the Shipyards to see what figures we would like to see again and also reiterated they know some of those figures had some distribution issues when they were released as a part of the vintage line so we can look for some of those to be re-released. They also mentioned that perhaps the vintage line characters we have had and loved, that see a spot in Rogue One, could also be re-released as part of the Wal-Mart Waves. I was left feeling pretty good about that question.

And perhaps would they be open to a Fans Choice type Poll in regards to figures we might like to see in that line too? (Similar to what they are doing at SDCC with the 6" Fans Choice Poll).

They said YES! for the 3.75" Line

They also reiterated we are going to do this again in the 6" Scale for this coming SDCC.

2. Can you please make a 6” Scale Dewback for our Sandtroopers? Take a look at this custom creation (by the renowned Ron Hembling) and tell me you fine folks making a Dewback in your 6” Line wouldn’t sell like hotcakes!

They are looking for some of the final numbers in regards to sales of some of the deluxe packs like the Hoth Han and Taun Taun and Luke and Wampa, but they did acknowledge that this beasty was definitely "on their radar" and toward the top of their list when they do release new 6" Deluxe packs. They also stated that they would probably release these in a set of two so I promptly threw in a 6" Scale Bantha to which we all laughed, but they didn't make it sound like it was out of the realm of possibilities!

I am kicking myself I didn't throw in the Probe Droid real quick, but trust me I will be asking when we do a follow up session!

3. Speaking of the 6” Lines, how satisfied were you regarding the sales of the 6” Scale The Force Awakens TIE Fighter? Were you satisfied enough that you will consider creating another larger size vehicle in this scale? Any ideas you folks are batting back and forth about the next potential offering? And we would be glad to help out to break any ties!

They did say they were satisfied with sales of the 6" Scale TIE to offer another vehicle in this scale! While they didn't hint as to which one that might be (hinted at perhaps some notice in the spring of next year) they did reiterate that the TIE was a bit easier for them to bite on as based on its shape the amount of material was not quite as much as a flatter vehicle with regular angles. They also talked about box size being a concern too. Still, it was great to hear we can definitely expect to get at least one more vehicle in this scale.

4. Having watched the design team video on the new Rogue One Stormtrooper Helmet all we can say is wow! And Wow one more time! We feel you folks really hit the ball out of the park with this one and wondered if you might bring one of these with you to the hangout and show it off a bit more? I would love to see a bit more of the inside and see how this will fit on my regular size noggin.

I am hoping they release the video later, but they showed one being taken out of the box and put together. It comes in 3 pieces. You first adjust the head webbing and then pop it together. Folks, hands down this is one of the coolest offerings I have seen in regards to role play almost ever. What we didn't see in the video was that there is a hidden mic that actually swivels to let us with larger noses put it on and then move it close to our mouth as we get it settled. This is true one to one scale and almost an exact replica of the official helmet used in the movie!

They gave us a close up of the lenses and plastic and this thing shines like the sun! Folks who have pre-ordered this are really gonna be happy.

Do you have plans to offer more Imperial Style helmets, both Original Trilogy, Prequel (clones!), and now the new movies (TFA and Stand Alones like Rogue One) going forward?

While they wouldn't discuss which era they were going to focus on next they did tell us that an announcement on the next one would be coming in just a few weeks (it sounded like by the time of Force Friday).

And we know you can’t sure anything that hasn’t been already shared regarding the new films and Rogue One, but will we see new variations in the Classic Stormtrooper that folks can army build?

They shut that question down pretty quick which I thought that perhaps they might.

5. New Rogue One Imperial Walker (AT-ACT)

It was great to see you were producing a version of the new AT-ACT we will be seeing in the films and all the bells and whistles seem fantastic. I am however, still reeling in awe of the last larger scale AT-AT you made in the the 3.75” Line in regards to the Legacy Line AT-AT (which included a vintage boxed version).

Is there any chance you will be giving that same treatment, down the road, to the new AT-ACT we will be seeing in Rogue One?

They started off with a "not at this time" quote that we are used to hearing for some time. I will be honest, I got into how cool the Legacy version was even at that size and by the time the talk was over they definitely didn't rule it out for the future. They even discussed that "some of the tooling" was already there and could easily overlap with the AT-ACT Design. I called that a win!

Some of the other tidbits I got from the Q and A Sessions with the other Sites:

A TFA Luke Skywalker is coming

They really seemed open to the idea of a new Death Star Playset. They didn't nail down a scale or a time frame, but they sure did talk about it at length to let you know this one is up there in regards to their thoughts on upcoming products. It was heavily talked about how to do it in 3.75" Scale. Nothing was planned at this point, but they know we want it.

They really did take a bit of the wind out of my sails (but not much) when they talked about the regular figure lines pretty much staying at the 5 POA point.

They also got out the U-Wing and showed us the wing movement feature (really cool) and the nerf firing feature. It seemed to shoot really far. I also didn't think, for once, it (the nerf firing feature) really detracted from the looks of the vehicle. A questions was asked about the smaller cockpit for just one figure and when they got it out to show it seemed pretty big.

There is going to be a Celebration Exclusive. Just nothing was hinted about in regards to what it might be.

I have more notes, but wanted to get this online as quick as I could as I am most excited. When I get word that video or audio is allowed I will try to get you the entire talk. They also talked about doing this again so be sure to keep your questions coming folks.

First off thanks Tamer, for the time you took, and Hasbro for lending your ear.
I didnt get this question in on time, meybe next time. What exclusive rights does Walmart have? Is it just the "black series" label  or SA 3.75" in general? In other words is it first possible to have sa 3.75 outside of walmart and will it happen. I know EE had astromech exclusives but they arent exactly figures from a technical  standpoint. Im just very synical of Walmart im a free market capitalist and all, but walmart gets a lot of special privlages.
Is it a matter of retailers requesting sa 3.75 or is it up to Hasbro/walmart on who gets them. Or is it that hasbro wants to push 6" so hard they took 3.75 out of the equation so they dont compete with themselves. The last q+a they hinted at other retailers carrying them, of course no real definative answer.

JDeck read my mind perfectly.
I'm sorry if I'm coming across angry and confrontational at the moment, because that's how I feel towards Hasbro.
It has, however, nothing to do with this board or its staff.

I'm happy that Hasbro is releasing 4 SA figures in the BS line which were hard to find as TVC figures and I suggest we should compile a list of TVC and Legacy figures which we would like to see re-released.
We all know that we would buy multiples of them...if we can find them at retail.
Let's imagine that Hasbro and WalMart can fix their distribution problems and we will be able to buy the figures.

We should convey the message to Hasbro that this forum alone has so much talent among its membership that in addition to re-releases we can come up with a whole bunch of innovative and cool figures made up from existing parts so that no new tooling would be necessary while Hasbro can concentrate on developing really new SA figures.
Although I'm more than half sure that Hasbro won't adopt this concept, all they can give us is a negative or evading answer.

My two cents.

What a fantastic idea ,I completely agree with Commander_Kurgan  . If Hasbro truly reads these posts  they will see the level of quality that the customizers put into their figures.   Tamer should you be doing another sit down again  you should make this recommendation or as an idea that Hasbro work together with some really good customizers to share what parts  they used to create a certain figure so we can get the figures we want in 3.75 sa . It would def keep cost down.    Also  Tamer i would like to express something , while i get we all need to be polite  and courteous when asking questions to Hasbro  i really think some questions should  be left unaltered ( obviously without being to hateful ) to let Hasbro know exactly  the level of frustration that the Collectors have in the treatment of the 3.75 sa . That distribution problems have not been corrected which is  a big key, and  that is destroying the line . And that collectors are telling them what we want  instead of them assuming they know what we want.  Just my opinion .

The thing about all this is it takes Hasbro 12-18 months to develope a figure. And you have a new movie coming out every year. So they are probably  making figure  concepts for the Han Solo anthology film already. However we cant even ask questions about rogue one figures or 40th anniversary  whatever, everything is  such a damn secret. Thats not exactly  Hasbro's fault LF puts a gag order on them.  See what im saying? So what kind of questions do they want us to ask?

I do like the idea of a Hasbro's greatest hits. Just reproduce the best selling most popular and hardest to find figures from previous series'.

I wonder to what degree is lucasfilms' involvement reguarding figures? Do they determine figure size? I know George Lucas was heavily involved with marketing figures, thats why we had 3.75 to begin with, instead of doll size 12". Soon after Disney buys Star Wars they all the sudden change course dramatically.

I would like to know why they decided to focus on 6" when 3.75 had been so successful over the past several years. And now they only have sa 3.75 in exclusive  form.  It doesn't make sense, if it aint broke don't  fix it. It just seems very strange to me. Rationally  you would keep sa 3.75 in high production and have the 6" in exclusive form. Hasbro had a virtual monopoly on 3.75, and an established fan base. But 6" has several competitors, and it was uncharted territory.

I love the idea of sitting down with Hasbro and seeing if we can help them keep their costs down and get SA back in our figures. On that note after talking about it with the team here is what I was left with:

1. 5 POA is around to stay in the regular figure line.
2. They don't like this any more than we do.
3. The Black Series Line is about the only line they have any "wiggle room" to explore other things.
4. Wal-Mart seems to be their best retailer and orders the most figures so in some way they are gonna get some privileges.
5. 6" is now their main cash cow and it ain't going anywhere and will be the main focus for at least the foreseeable future. We 3.75" folks are gonna have to work in this world now and get over our hurt at having our main line replaced.

I love the dialog here. Folks, we can work with em. We need to use professional criticism and not blatant flaming to do it and understand that there are some factors and boxes Hasbro is not allowed to leave. Many times they are getting flamed because of issues that Disney or Lucasfilm or even their retailers place on them. On that note, I think we need to find out who the main Wal-Mart Toy Person is as distribution issues at this point can be pointed that way as well. Hasbro is making em folks, but the retailers are not always getting them in their stores.

Question One:
Since there is no WalMart in Germany, importers are charging between 35 and 40 EUR for a recent 3.75" BS figure. How can Hasbro assure access to BS figures in Germany at normal rates?

Question Two:
Would Hasbro accept our help in selecting the most desired figures for re-release in the 3.75" BS line?

We will ask it, but for those types of questions we always get we can't talk about the prices our retailers charge for our products after we ship them out. That one might be better suited for a new google hangout where I can look them in the eye and see how they respond. Its a good question though.

On another note, is anyone besides me wanting to know when the vintage line will return after seeing Mr. Jedi 1977's last batch. Wouldn't it be cool to see TFA and Rogue One Figures on vintage cardbacks. I mean I know we will never stomach the 5 poa figures, but seeing em on vintage cards might help some of us swallow a little bit?

That is exactly what i think. I don't like people telling me what i like or need. I never bought any of the 6" stuff and never will. What i like to do is dioramas, army build. And the 6" size makes it quite impossible.
Telling children need 5POA is another absurdity; as a kid i collected GIJoes and the were certainly not 5POA. Giving the consumer no choice so you can lure them towards a product is something i've never seen before. Here in France, neither children nor collectors will buy most of the 6" they release, maybe a couple ones and that's it.

I'm so disappointed in the line anymore I can't even think of a question to ask.  :-\

The vehicles I used to love are getting ridiculously out of scale, and the figures I love posing simply can't be posed anymore. Is there any sign of a return to collector oriented 3.75 vehicles? Will the SA 3.75 figures ever be mainstream again? Should I even continue to bother collecting?

I used to joke I should have bought Lego...Now I'm serious. I really should have bought Lego products.

LOL, I'm always focused on the negative side of things!  :P

Here's a question...Has Hasbro considered some sort of middle ground for articulation? Instead of a 5 POA line VS the exclusive SA line, what about 8 points? (Elbows, shoulders, head, waist, and knees)

The price would increase slightly, but then perhaps more people would be happy, and there would be more playability as well.

All we can do is keep after them!

Remember they said to do that to get what we want so we are gonna sound like a broken record until full articulation comes back to all figure lines, we get to scale 3.75" vehicles again, and even see a vintage cardback or three!

This isnt a question, but an observation, to anyone listening. Hasbro  makes a $300 AT-ACT , that comes with 5poa figures. That kinda makes the affordability of the 5poa figures pointless. The whole purpose of 5poa is making figures affordable to kids, yet, they throw Nerf guns and Android  apps on a vehicle and double or triple the cost. Makes no sense.  Its kind of like those Cadillac trucks.

I've not bought any TFA yet preferring the OT, as the SW universe expands the chances of getting the figures you want gets slimmer. Will it be a case of TVC releases coinciding with the Anthology movies and TFA figures with EP8 onwards?

Question One:
Since there is no WalMart in Germany, importers are charging between 35 and 40 EUR for a recent 3.75" BS figure. How can Hasbro assure access to BS figures in Germany at normal rates?

Question Two:
Would Hasbro accept our help in selecting the most desired figures for re-release in the 3.75" BS line?

Question Three:
Is there a chance we will see figure multipacks in the 3.75" BS line?
No, not astromechs like in that EE exclusive multipack, but real figures.

Question Four:
What was the reason for changing the packaging of the 3.75" BS figures from bubble on cardback to box? It seems that bubble on cardback would be more cost effective than the box.

Question Five:
Is it likely that we will be able to purchase accessory packs like Clone Army, Imperial, Rebel, Smuggler, Jedi, Sith etc to outfit 3.75" action figures with additional weapons, helmets, softgoods? These do not have to be WalMart exclusives and could be used with past, present and future figure lines, SA as well as 5POA.

I had some login issues so I could not submit questions before... but I can get in now (thanks Tamer!).  Hopefully I'm not too late to the party.

1 - It feels like we are long overdue for a new 3.75" Wampa AND Probe Droid.  Will this be happening before too long?  The Wampa could be scaled down from the awesome 6" scale version, and as for a Probe Droid... the POTF2 mold is very much outdated... both of these could probably fit in 6" Black Series boxes if that helps!

2 - The new 3.75" Rogue One figures are a step in the right direction... much better quality in terms of sculpts, paint applications, and even some minor upgrades in articulation.  One thing though, why do some of these figures have a "hard plastic torso" while others do not?  If we could choose, the figures would have soft torsos... this is because paint apps match better with the arms/legs (which are always the softer plastic), but ALSO... us customizers will buy a lot more!  Even of the pegwarmers.  So can you please consider this?  An example would be both Wave 1 and Wave 2 Jyn... she has a soft torso so we can pop off her arms and replace with another... but for a figure like Cassian, we can't.  Both his Wave 2 figure and U-Wing pack-in have super hard torsos that do not soften when warmed up.

3 - While at TRU Midnight Madness, there were about 25 people there... lots of 3.75" figures sold, as did the 6" TBS... but people were lamenting over not being able to get many 3.75" TBS figures anymore, and fellow collectors talked about their feelings about the NERF feature on the Tie Striker and A-Wing... to put it mildly, not a single one of those vehicles sold that night.  The manager noticed - and asked people why were not picking those up... they were quite open and blunt about this and explained how the aesthetics of these vehicles has been affected.  That being said, is the NERF feature something that is planned long-term, or are you looking to see how the market reacts?

Good questions Chewie! Here's something that came to mind on my drive home this evening:

Does Hasbro have any plans to offer any Rebel army builders in the 6 inch line? IE Rebel Fleet Troopers, Hoth Rebels, or Endor Rebels?

Even despite the fact I don't like those figures in the slightest, I find it strange there hasn't been any OT Rebel troopers...

1- With the release of TBS 6 inch Darth Revan later this year (which looks fantastic from what they've shown us so far) is there any possibility getting more Knights of the Old Republic figures in the future whether it be 6 inch or 3.75? I understand Hasbro has a lot of Star Wars movies to keep up with these days, but the demand for Kotor figures still seems as strong as ever with Revan (and Bastila Shan a couple years back) winning fan's choice polls 10 years after the game was released.

2- Any plans on eventually including some sort of basic figure stands with TBS 6 inch figures?

Thanks Tamer... and here's a bit of an add-on for my 3rd question... or you could consider this a standalone question, I'm not sure.

4 - Why is Hasbro thinking that for the "kids line" that gimmicks are needed to sell the product?  BAD weapons, NERF features, big cannons that hurt the look of the toys, etc. (at least the Rebels Imperial Speeder's missile launcher is removable).  We've seen time and time again that good product will sell itself.  If you feel you have to add in more play value and add investment to do that, why not go back to a bit more articulation, or accessories that are useful to the figure (extra meaningful weapon, removable hats, etc.).  The current approach seems to be turning off more Star Wars consumers than it's adding... and a significant piece of the "kid market" is actually adults, but large numbers of us do not want to these features that take away from the toys... you didn't used to do these things, so why are you now?  It's like Commtech Chips, action features, etc... ideas that really aren't that great or they would not have been halted.  In other words, NERF features on the vehicles especially is a major eyesore (i.e. TIE Striker).

5 - When it became obvious that Wave 2 of the TFA figures were causing a logjam, why weren't Hasbro reps sent out to pull some of those figures off the pegs and replace with the figures people were seeking, such as the Han Solo wave, and later unmasked Kylo Ren wave?  Many people STILL have never seen those at retail.  Isn't that alarming?

Here is another I have based on the new 5 poa Stormtrooper:

Can we hopefully assume the Rogue One articulated Stormtrooper we will see in the Wal Mart Black Series line will feature the same awesome helmet that is on the regular Rogue One version? It is already being heralded as the best 3.75" Stormtrooper Helmet of all time!

And a semi-follow up on that topic...

Has Hasbro considered doing "dynamic" poses for the 5 POA line? Instead of the "Frankenstein's Monster" arms, how about a Stormtrooper that could hold his rife with both arms at attention?

They did this on Sabine to some degree, as the one elbow is bent, and the pose looks very natural. It would be really nice to see more of that in the 5 POA line!

(I hate 5 POA, but even I would be down for well sculpted Stormtroopers who are capable at guarding something...As compared to dancing thriller.)

Hasbro , with a focus on a new movie ever year, this leave little room for out beloved NEW  Orginal Trilogy figures.   Can we please remember in the future selection   To ADD some NEW 100%  original Trilogy sculpt to the 3 3/4 line.  Suggestion:
At Least one New Sculpted Cantina or perhaps one jabba palace figures are Need to added to the 3 3/4 Black  line to round it out every year .

Hasbro ,  When we caught wind that we were
Getting a NEW SA multipack with five NEW figures.
We all got super excited for it. Although it was reveal to be the Astro droids set, many of us were hoping it was Cantina aliens  with 5 NEW SA Sculpted Aliens we have not gotten  before . We would love to see some focus on 3 3/4 back series collector pack.
Example
Would be.   ( Athloe, Tzizvvit, Ariel Schous, Reefesk, and Rycard)

Here's another one, I think I am under the wire here...

6 - Why don't we see more accessories in the 3.75" lineup?  Even if they were some sort of "Direct to Consumer" format, there are endless possibilities on items that would make for wonderful diorama filler for the market.  Computer consoles, chairs, crates, etc.  And most of these could just be one solid piece of plastic, so you would not have to create a bunch of pieces for factory workers to assemble.  Just mass produce the single piece of plastic and add paint.

7 - Kids and adults love construction themed toys.  How about some sort of "build your own playset" line where people could purchase pieces to build their own sets?  Kind of like plastic model kits, just a bit more durable so once assembled they could actually be "played" with some.  Curious why nothing is being done by the Hasbro team when there are so many other toy brands making awesome playsets these days, yet Star Wars fans are left looking to 3rd parties or their own creative abilities.

I'll never buy 5POA...aka 5POS.

It still boggles my mind that we went from super-articulated golden age of the #41 clonetrooper and the Vintage Collection to the low-quality garbage they put out now.  It's unreal.  But I suppose that's what happens when a big corporate marketing/executive board makes decisions instead of listening to a well-established consumer base.

I want to protest

My chant will be:

5POA ... Go Away!!
5POA ... Go Away!!

I mean, dude, even Ewan McGregor was making his own lightsaber noises while filming......

We will continue to let them know of our dissatisfaction with 5poa. I was left, after the last q and a, thinking the Brand Team hated the 5 poa as much as we do, but sensing the only freedom they had to add more arty at all was in the black series, or other retailer exclusive lines. We will keep plugging away at it. Evidently they are making enough at retail with the 5 poa though that they seem like they aren't going away anytime soon.

Dan has the questions folks. He might be running to get to the party tonight as the train station he uses is still shut down, so wish him luck as he descends on the party tonight!

For them, Europe seems to be the UK...
After 6 months of exclusivity for the Black Series to WalMart, everybody can order Black Series in his part of the world, but nobody seems to know that. Not even TRU.
This needs to be changed if the pricepoint really concerns them.
Paying between 35 and 40 EUR for a 3.75" figure is not an option.

This q&a reaffirms my thought that Hasbro is taking advantage of the new movies to get new collectors. It makes sense. But the hardcore 3.75" fans are sort of tossed to the side until Star Wars loses relevance, then theyll come crawling back. The idea that 6" is designed for new collectors because the amount existing figures are overwhelming, I can see that.  Personally I just got back into collecting, and it was the 6" X-Wing Luke that hooked me back in. However I eventually  went back to 3.75 because in some cases finding certain figures is impossible and making customs is very limiting.

I got the opinion from listening to the questions that the false ignorance has gone. "Some people can't get all the figures?""delays in release in all shops at once?" Yeah, we're working on it!"
They also need to look at their European releases. Problems all over! Asda in the UK still selling 3.75 Black Series Wave 1! Bit of a smattering of Wave 2 when you're not looking. Come on Hasbro, sort your supply lines out!!!

Life's full of missed opportunities.
Especially for Hasbro now.
Rogue One is out, people are happy, people love the movie, people have no real line of SA 3.75" figures and vehicles to buy.

Check the article and the discussion.
Now would be the best opportunity to sell figures and vehicles.
Too bad there isn't much to buy.

I can't argue with this logic. I read JTA's latest review of the new Walker and found myself saying and nodding  yes to all of their points. Such an opportunity wasted with this movie. I also even felt that we had a lot of new Imperial Trooper type characters kind of invented in this movie for the merchandising, but we aren't ever gonna seem some of them in super arty form.

Toy Fair is next folks, all we can do is get our questions in about things like this. I have a feeling they know what questions we are gonna give em before we even think em up.

Question No.1:
Is there a chance we will see figure multipacks in the 3.75" BS line?
No, not astromechs like in that EE exclusive multipack, but real figures.
A multipack of Rogue One Rebel SpecForce Commandos and another of Imperial Troopers (Death Troopers, Shoretroopers, Stormtroopers) would fly from the shelves like nothing else.

Looks like Volker beat me to it. After seeing Darth Daddy's Rebel Fleet Troopers and the variations he created I could so see a Rebel Fleet Trooper pack selling too.

What I would like to know, after seeing them release the Walmart AT-ST again with no word, is if we will see other "past true to scale 3.75" vehicles" get the same re-release? I think collectors and fans in general aren't big fans of the latest vehicles that are so underscaled to barely fit one pilot let alone any subsidiary passengers, troopers, etc.

I also have to admit being a bit underwhelmed with that new AT-ACT and wonder how Hasbro feels about it now? I am not saying the walking wasn't great, but with the price point being so high I didn't see any sell in my neck of the woods and am seeing them clearanced out now way below the beginning msrp. With the success of their larger vehicles like the BMF Falcon and the following Legacy AT-AT is there any chance we could see those again or another larger size vehicle like that that might not be big in electronics, but big in scale and features like those two awesome vehicles had?
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of Toy Fair 2017
Post by: Commander_Kurgan on January 28, 2017, 03:51:06 PM
You know, the more I think about it, it would be really easy for Hasbro to bring us a battlepack of Rebel Fleet Troopers defending, a boarding party of Stormtroopers and a piece of spaceship corridor as a diorama base/playset.
This would give the army builders something and also the diorama people and the kids to play Star Wars action with them.
A battlepack could contain five or six figures, troopers plus an officer, various weapons and specialisations.
The diorama piece could have some action features.

We know they can do this, they did it back them in the POTF line with the cell block and other playsets.

THIS!

I don't get how Theron Nett hasn't been made yet. He had a lot of screen time like Biggs and Wedge.

If Gold Leader wasn't re-released in TBS line, it would have been cool to see a 3-pack of Red, Gold and Blue Leader. This way Red Leader is re-released, we get the new sculpt of Gold Leader and a brand new Blue Leader. Instead hopefully we will see a 3 pack of Blue Leader and 2 Blue Squadron pilots.

With how Hasbro has been lately, I don't see this happening. Maybe if this was back in the Legacy Collection days.

First, I have to commend Hasbro for re releasing the Imperial Guard, General Calrissian and Admiral Akbar. I'd like to know if that will be an ongoing practice, to re release popular figures from the Vintage collection, or other series'. I belive they will relese the TVC walrus man soon. If I may suggest TVC Tarkin, while he's still relevant, after appearing in Rebels, Rogue One and it's the 40th anniversary of ANH.
Also I wonder if they take a look at the going Ebay and other secondary market prices to analyze the popularity of figures/characters.   Certain figures are in high demand including SA 3.75", early 6" like R2-D2 and even some 5POA figures like Agent Kallus. Ebay, and other secondary markets are good indicators of what is in demand.
I'd like to know their take on secondary market prices. I wonder If they concider having figures at high resale value important, or if providing figures to those who want them at the normal msrp just as important.   At this point buyers are getting screwed especially with the early 6" figures.  Scalpers aren't collectors. Its insaine how people make that much money off of modern figures, sometimes as much as a thousand percent. Why make it easier for them to take advantage of consumers, by not re releasing popular figures. Even as some kind of exclusive. They made the EE astro droid, that is ho-hum but the R2 is what people want.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of Toy Fair 2017
Post by: CHEWIE on January 31, 2017, 09:30:04 PM
1 - Rogue One.  This movie is amazing and right up the alley of the adult collector.  That being said, there's at least a dozen figures we need from this movie still in 3.75" SA style.  How many more figures from this movie, in the 3.75" SA format can we expect over the next 1-2 years?

2 - Death Star playset.  After 20+ years of asking for this (and not something out of cardboard or overloaded with gawky play features), should we all finally just accept that this is something Hasbro will never make?  And if that's the case, how about an Imperial Turbo Laser Tower playset instead?  Wouldn't that be feasible?

3 - We are seeing that NERF features on vehicles just don't seem to be a selling point for the Star Wars brand.  The recent Rogue One vehicles had wonderful molds, and much better plastic than the TFA offerings... but the NERF just doesn't need to be on these and obviously hurts the appearance of some vehicles drastically.  Isn't Star Wars a strong enough brand to sell without needing NERF mixed in?  Will the NERF features go away with Episode 8 toys?

4 - Oversized weapon pack-ins.  Aren't there better alternatives to the investment Hasbro is putting into these?  These are not offering much additional play value to the 3.75" budget line.  A better way to add play value is to make these figures have a bit more articulation and move on past the cookie cutter 5POA approach.  Please add some waists, knees sometimes, and shoulders or elbows instead.  And it's not just adults saying this.  Those of us with kids witness our kids toss those oversized weapon pack-ins to the side.

5 - We believe you are getting more intersted in diorama bases for the 6" figures... which is great... but where has this been for the 3.75" line?  Those Mission Series style 2-pk figure sets would really be awesome with some sort of diorama piece rather than the giant make believe weapons that have been getting packed in.

6 - Soft torsos.  Can't express enough how many figures become pegwarmers because the customizing market leaves figures with the hard torsos on the pegs.  If you construct the figures with soft torsos (the same way the arms/legs/heads) are made, then a lot of those pegwarmers move easier because we can find a user for them then.  More and more of Hasbro's figures have hard torsos the past 2 years... why is this?

7 - TBS 3.75" SA Rebel Troops - when are we going to see some Scarif Rebels in SA style, some of the Jedha rebels, a TFA Resistance trooper, the Rebel Fleet Trooper again, etc?  Would some Evolution 3 or 4 pks be the way to approach this?

Thank you!

I was talking with my brother the other day and we were discussing what the future holds for JOE figures. They are going through a slump right now, I guess because of political correctness, and growing anti nationalism among other things. I'm wondering if 6" scale classic  Joes were being concidered. From the 80s like Destro and classic Cobra Commander, Bazooka ect.
I would like to hear their response. Gi joe and Star Wars are pretty similar in demographics and collector enthusiasm. And if it works for Marvel and Star Wars (in their opinion) why not Gi Joe.  Honestly I would buy them up. If they stick to the classics, no movie figures, and they had the same quality as the black series. Plus they would be cheaper, you dont have to pay for the licencing. Of course hard core Joe collectors would hate it, just like many of us dislike 6". So their response would be interesting.

Dear Hasbro,

My question to you is in relation to the large weapon pack ins for the 5poa action figure line.  While I have no problem with an action figure coming with the weapons that they are shown to possess in whatever Star Wars content that they appeared in, as a parent I am concerned with your choice of bonus pack ins that are coming with these figures.  Even as a strong believer in gun rights, I think that these large weapons that come with these figures are a bit too much.   With all the glorification of violence in our culture and things like the recent school shootings that are occurring throughout the country, I would really appreciate pack ins of a different nature. There are plenty of small Star Wars creatures that would use the same amount of plastic that kids would enjoy just as much. Creature pack ins might encourage play based around empathy and caregiving and may draw in more female fans as well. I think even adult collectors would enjoy creature pack ins to diversify their dioramas or displays.  What are the chances of Hasbro taking the pack ins in a more constructive direction like this and leaving these large guns behind for good?

-A concerned parent

Many thanks to Dan and Hasbro . I listened to the Q&A already and found it interesting. First off, its interesting that they found  the Walking AT-ACT to be more creative than retail inspired, that I can respect, because sometimes my customs aren't as cool as others may think. I like how you phrased my question as to whether re releasing is a screw you to scalpers. Good response in my opinion, very good. I know in the press conference setting as opposed to one on one is very much different, I applaud you.

Next time I for one would like to know how  the forum is setting before submitting questions.  Like whether its press conference, or one on one. So I know how to phrase them, or know how in depth I can go.  Great job as always.

They didn't let us know that in advance this time JDeck. We have to assume at most they will give us 10 minutes individually and at worst this format. I hate to say it, but they seem to be going to this format lately. I guess it wraps up the Q and A a lot quicker for them.

There are some advantages to the press conference setting. You get to hear a variety questions from other sites. I guess with the smaller events they go with the group setting, but the larger events are probably one on one. Im sure they have to answer the same questions multiple times, might as well get them out the way all at once.
I'm not complaining, I thought it was good. Just never really know how the format will be. I think they know that the huge gargantuan vehicles were a bust. They sort of mumbled when someone broght up the big millennium falcon and big at-at, and how they would sell better.

I have a question, I know its way too early for, I guess SDCC 2017, but I wanted to write this down before I forget. I want to know, feel free to rewrite this better. Is Hasbro confined, by Lucasfilm,  to characters represented in the post special edition versions?  For example could Hasbro make a puppet version Sy Snootles, or Sebastian Shaw Anakin? Or could they make a "Wolfman" cantina patron? If they wanted to, or better yet if we want them too, ideally.
Speaking of Max Rebo band, would they ever undo the body configuration on Max Rebo, that Kenner got wrong? It was originally intended for Max's "hands" to actually be his feet, and his "ears" were actually flippers. Or is that so far intrenched its basically canon? Personally the way it was originally intended, is much more interesting than an elephant in a diaper.
Just a couple of questions that I can't help but wonder.

I have a an update to my last question the Ortolan (Max Rebo) species does not have arms, as perceived. In the Kanan comic series it depicts an Ortolan sitting in a prison cell. So my question still remains if Hasbro will fix Kenner's mistake, and go with the original intended (canon) configuration of Max Rebo.

My question for Hasbro since its now the 40th Anniversary of anh and the vintage collection is back , does Hasbro plan to re release and vtc vehicles like the Slave one   X-wing , tie fighter , falcon and both versions of the At-At walker at retail prices  instead of what Amazon is selling them for .

Artie, from what I understand it is back to the cheaper, what I call knock off, vehicles but just in vintage packaging now. It is a great question though.

I mean look at that new AT-ACT. I heard Amazon finally sold it for fifty bucks the other day to get rid of it. I mean Hasbro even discounted it to $150 which is 50% off.

Lol. Thats sad. I love it when Hasbro tells consumers what consumers will or won't buy, kinda cracks me up. Like some Jedi mindtrick. You don't want a BAT-AT, for $150, you want an AT-ACT, for $300. I really don't get it.

Hmmm...thought there would be more here now. Is anyone wondering this?

We understand and are very excited for the Vintage Line being returned. How many Star Wars Product Lines will be getting the vintage treatment?

Can we assume this vintage line will be available at all retailers (not like just Wal Mart for the articulated Black Series?

Will this new vintage line feature fully articulated figures?

How long can we expect the vintage line to last?

I have a lot of vintage questions!

And on the asking note, we are all done getting registered and signed up. Todd is going to have a special session with the brand team on Saturday. I am assuming it will be a podcast recording pretty much like we did last year.

1.  With the success of Darth Revan in the black series is it possible to see more Knights of the Old Republic figures in the future for either 6 inch or TVC? Malak and Bastila are good choices for 6 inch as they have won past fan choice polls.

2.  Will the new TVC be mostly made up of new characters from whatever movie is new at the time, or can we expect a mixture of OT, PT, and EU charcters?

3.  Thanks for doing the Fan's Choice Poll again this year, but I always wonder why not make the top 6 (or even 3) as figures? Some of the characters may have limited demand in stores, but perhaps offer them as a Fan's Choice wave as an online exclusive set similar to Jucasta Nu.

1. Will we be seeing (more) vehicles for the Vintage collection return or is that just relegated to figures?

2. Speaking of vehicles, the Imperial Cargo/Tank from Rogue One will be making an appearance in Season 4 of Rebels, any chance of some retail love for that?

3. Speaking of Rebels, anything new coming? 3 3/4" SA? 6" crew completion?

4. One last question...Mini-Rigs or small vehicles. With rising production costs I would think these would be popular with both 3 3/4" and 6" collectors to get some added play out of their figures, could we see some new and perhaps classic Mini-Rigs appearing again? (Sand Skimmer!) Accessory packs would be welcome too! (Moisture Vaporator!)

I'm trying to word this question as nicely/politically correct as possible. Maybe I should go straight to the point:

What the hell is going on with distribution? No new figures in brick and mortar stores since late March/early April (if that).

You really dropped the ball with the 40th anniversary line, Hasbro. What are going to do to fix it?

OCs question is a great one. Can point to evidence especially fenn rau who cannot be found in stores or online and is selling for over $50 on eBay.

I like huttmans question on rebels. Especially if we will see anymore realistic 3.75 versions and if we could see ketsu onya.

+1 to Darth drew on kotor questions. Would love to see zayne carrick , Celeste morne and haazen.

My personal question: I understand there needs to be secrecy around new movie releases but why not generate excitement with more advanced information. Video games do this and it creates a lot of excitement. I would love to know people like pong krell or a new Janna goon is coming with the first wave of tvc for instance.

I got these questions in by email so I want to add them here so as not to miss any once we compile the list:

1. Now that 3.75" SA Figures are returning, will you (Hasbro)  be giving us figures from The Force Awakens and Rogue 1 that were done in 5POA and 6" Black Series in the 3.75" SA Format, and if so, how many? Maybe a Fan Vote on the top 10 or 15 would help out. 😁

2.  Can we Collector's expect to see Collector Scaled Vehicles for the TFA and TLJ
, such as the X-Wing and Tie Fighter and others returning to stores near us soon??

In the era of the new films, the 3.75" line has been heavy on the main characters but very light on background characters.  Is there any chance that we will be getting into a more diverse line of characters again?  Perhaps with the Vintage Collection making a return?

With the return of TVC, is there any chance that some figures that were designed/sculpted but never released will finally see the light of day?  (I'm thinking the second Utai in particular, but there have been several modern SA figures shown but not released.)

I thought of a couple more:

I remember hearing a 6 inch General Grievous was in the works as well as a 3.75 inch phase 1 Captain Rex supposedly for TBS, what happened with those?

With Aphra winning the Fan's Choice poll, any chance of the Comic pack line making a return? There seems to be decent demand for comic characters from the new and old EU as evident on Ebay and the like.

1. DEWBACK! We need a 6" Dewback set - it can be an exclusive as long as they make one!!)

2. Side characters and accessories....like LOBOT or an E-WEB blaster set for the Snowtroopers.

3. Thank you for creating a fantastic 40th Darth Vader figure!!!! Will we be seeing ESB or ROTJ versions of the Sith Lord in the future?

4. Rebel Fleet Troopers or Pilots in the works?

5. Death Star Gunner? Death Star Droid?

Awesome job although I think Hasbro misunderstood my question or I am really surprised by their answer. Mine was the one about building excitement. Does that answer mean even if completely unrelated to new movies Disney controls the release of new information. For instance if Sim Aloo is coming as a vintage figure in 2018, Disney gets to tell Hasbro when they can tell us?

Anyone have any questions? I have about half a million about the new vintage line.

1. Does Hasbro plan to release all of the original figures they didn't get around too the last time the vintage line was here? (AT-AT Driver hint hint)

2. Besides the basic action figure line, what other goodies will receive the vintage packaging treatment?

3. Of course you knew this was coming. Will the vintage basic figure line feature super-articulated figures only?

4. How long do you plan to continue the vintage line this time (saying forever will be fine)?

5. Are there any "Kenner" releases that you plan on "rereleasing" in the modern vintage figure line?

Trust me folks you had better add some as I am just getting warmed up.

How does the long gap between Solo and E9 affect their plans/ choices/ approach to the 3.75” line?

Why so much secrecy in their approach to lines and figures? The collecting community believes more transparency and engagement would be beneficial. (At least I hope we do)

Part of the reason for secrecy is corporate and Lucasfilm. There are legal gag orders in place regarding line selections. Most of it is aimed at making sure other licensees don't steal their thunder so to speak.

Of course for a new movie but why for releases of VC and new waves. Talking about prereleases way in advance would give a ton of excitement. HT announces preorders over a year out. Telling us that the next CC wave will have yakface shouldn’t bother Disney or Lucas at all

Part of the reason for secrecy is corporate and Lucasfilm. There are legal gag orders in place regarding line selections. Most of it is aimed at making sure other licensees don't steal their thunder so to speak.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of Toy Fair 2018

Same reason. Even with the vintage items they don't want to let the proverbial cat out of the bag as other SW Licensees could copy. If you haven't watched the toys that made us on Netflix it is very educational about the history of Kenner and Hasbro with the first episode. I learned a lot the past few weeks and I have been around this stuff for years.

Besides corporate stealing, another reason is they want folks to show up to the toy conventions and fairs and so on to get the news and they get to disseminate how much and what type of info they give us. And at these cons and conventions there is always one tease or more to keep us coming back.

My question to HASBRO would be this:

Why do you even bother anymore?

Anyone can do it better and cheaper. Just look at the "stupid" RAMPAGE line. Its like a revolution in Price vs. Product. But then again this is the company that dropped GI-JOE and also the entire concept behind it: A VEHICLE LINE WITH FIGURES AS THE ACCESSORIES... Something stolen from KENNER  whom stole it from FISHER PRICE (ADVENTURE PEOPLE).

The TIE Defender is amazing and I'd love to see it realized in plastic one day! However, my question is with regards to Clone Wars and TVC: I know the first few waves are dedicated to repacks, "new media", and OT characters, but when could we expect some CW characters on Vintage cardbacks?

I know folks would love to see the likes of Cad Bane, Pre Viszla, Gregor, ARC Trooper Fives, and Pong Krell.

Also, as a follow up: Does the "new media" include Rogue One? I had heard rumors of a Blue Squadron pilot and Melshi as possibilities for TVC.

Thanks so much! And I'd love to see any comments here on the Yards as to what you guys think of these possibilities and what eras/films you'd like to see covered in TVC!
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of Toy Fair 2018
Post by: Darth More on February 02, 2018, 11:20:12 AM
@talonreap: I agree! The TIE Defender is an awesome design! But I wouldn't put my hopes too high on Hasbro making it...and even if so they would probably make it horribly underscaled (not 1/18)...but hey: Never say never! Down the road they need something new & fresh...they just cannot use the same mold over and over again to keep the line alive...

And I think your chances to see more Clone Wars figures in realistic style are good! Hasbro gave us some CW figures in the first TVC and I am confident they'll give us a few more.

And I generally don't expect much from NY Toy Fair. Hasbro didn't really announce anything special or much of product on Toy Fair(s) over the last years. The German Toy Fair in Nuremberg is this weekend. We might see a few items we already know. Hasbro will probably push their "major announcements" to SDCC and HasCon in summer.
Most of the stuff will probably be leaked before. Disney's policy of secrecy for all licensees is just...not reasonable. But that's just my subjective point of view.
It would be nice to see some stuff of SOLO on NYTF though. Let's see if Hasbro is allowed to display anything of the new movie.

Have a good weekend everyone!

- Philipp

Here's a few questions... I could go on and on.......  :-*

1 - Do you have folks on the ground checking what the situation is at retail?  And if so, wouldn't they have told you that carrying the Rathtar forward in 2018 is not a good idea?  Or by the time this was known, was it too late to prevent them from being carried forward in the Solo line?  Bringing this thing back again only hurts retailers... and as fans, we're afraid we won't even SEE the new Wampa at retail because not only are stores drowning in Rathtars, it's being carried forward!  Why did you produce SO MANY Rathtars and WHY is it being carried forward again?

2 - In the spirit of a more well-rounded "basic line" why don't you put better figures into the launch waves of your movie lines?  For example, Poe is just a weak figure.  But C'ai Threnalli, who is ALSO an X-Wing pilot, has much more attention and care put into this figure from TLJ.  So why didn't Poe get the "articulated wrists and boots" treatment, with the flight straps separate from his legs like C'ai Threnall?  A little more investment in launch wave quality will only help retailers sell figures, which in the end helps Hasbro too, so the retailers aren't clearancing waves and later waves have a hard time making it to retail.  For reference on the best way to launch a movie line, PLEASE look back to ROTS in 2005.  THAT was Hasbro's best movie line launch - BY FAR.  Great variety with well made figures, cool accessories, stellar army builders, droids, aliens, etc. instead of so much focus on just a handful of characters like we're seeing now.   Fans and retailers will love you for it.

3 - Were any lessons learned in working with Walmart as the sole provider of TBS 3.75" scale figures?

4 - Army builders.  When you make generic human troops, why not pack 2-3 per case and give each a unique head?  This will help more units sell.

5 - The Rogue One Stormtroopers seen in the Juggernaut at Wobani Labor Camp were awesome looking.  Could you release the TVC Sandtrooper again but give it a black wash rather than brown wash to replicate this dirty / battle hardened look?

Thanks!

If there's time to still add something, would be curious to try and understand their logic on the new Falcon from Solo:  A Star Wars Story.

After how poorly the TFA Falcon performed at retail, this version seems extremely risky.  Wouldn't it be a better approach to make some sort of $100 playset that is more in line with what collectors have been pushing for instead?

Insane.

I really don't know how anyone can keep a job at this place. Its one thing to make a cheap product and flip it... But to put SOOOOO MUCH TIME / DEVELOPMENT on things not only no ones wants... But MSRP soo high... Who is gunna buy it?

I could rant for hours about the mediocrity... But what's the point?  I willingly spend my time/evergy of making things much more desirable.

Doesn't it concern the company that a lot of Star Wars items, such as TBS and TVC, are becoming hard to find products, due to; excessive exclusives, distribution problems, under packed items, etc. and have created and continue to feed a lucrative secondhand market?

Surely it is not good business practice to create the kind of retail environment where a third party seller makes more profit per item than the company that distributes it. Surely making items easier to get hold of at initial retail point would be better for the company from both a financial and a PR point of view.

I live in the UK and I have no idea which shops are going to stock which products, especially if they are limited to exclusive deals in the US, I think even our local Forbidden Planet has given up. But I've heard that the problem is nearly as bad even in the US.

This has been a long running issue with Hasbro Star Wars, and Hasbro's current business deals seem to be making it worse rather than better.

I want to enjoy buying Star Wars products again!

Plain and Simple:   we need more figures in the Vintage Collection, more than 3 waves a year. Perhaps 5 waves a year would be more effective.

Please Hasbro :  Repacks, less of them more NEW figures.  Aliens and
Droids  have not been represented in this line at all. Example:   8D8 , Ev-9d9,

Please bring back Muti paks:    What better way to fill the barge :

Skiff:  updated please!

What. Is next year ratio on Orginal Trilogy to new entainment for the vintage collection?   Example: we will we at 10 new figure represented from the Orginal trilogy!

Wow, thought there might be more takers in here by now. I know it was kind of last minute, but I am gonna have to get these out today so I am gonna add a few:

With the great success of the Barge, when can we expect to hear of the next great HasLab offering?

Speaking of the Barge, is everything going according to plan with this shipping in February?

It has been awhile since we have seen a new large vehicle offering in 3.75" Scale. Any chance you might shed some light on one coming down the pike? AT-M6 perhaps?

We have seen word on a Wal-Mart Exclusive TIE Fighter coming in vintage deco. Any other vehicle offerings you can share coming in the vintage line?

Your 6" Vintage Line is fantastic. What new figures are we going to see get this same treatment we don't know about yet? All of the characters you have released in the Black Series that have had vintage cards before perhaps?

Besides the Sail Barge of course, what new product has you most excited in the coming year?

I am still thinking of a few, but will wait a bit this morning to send these on to Todd.

If you have any questions you need to get em in this morning!

Tamer, I can't speak for anyone but myself... I've been a figure collector since the 70s. As you know I'm one of the old guard, 51 this August. I collected MEGO, Metal Men, Micronauts and Star Wars when I was a kid. Had the Shogun Warriors, Big chap Alien yadda yadda yadda.

I haven't purchased a Star Wars figure to "collect" in a couple of years. I buy em' and chop them up to make something else. The new films just don't speak to me. To my surprise, and especially after TLJ it's as if someone turned off a faucet. I have nearly zero interest in the franchise. I go back to the first three films and that's it.

At 51 years old I have 3 children. Late bloomer. All girls ages 12, 9 and 5. I observe them and their friends and kids now-a-days seem to be uninterested in physical toys. All they seem to want are their devices. That's problem #1 with whats wrong with collecting and distribution these days. My kids are okay with Star Wars, but only IV, V and VI. They're bored during the prequels (as am I) and they can't stand the new stuff. I really tried to get them, and me, into the Disney offerings, but they hate em'. Girl hero power and all... lol. What a bunch of crap.

Luckily along came Marvel. My girls love Marvel and the MCU, and so do I. When I see an MCU film I feel a lot of excitement as I did back when Star Wars was young. It's been a great bonding experience for us. Guardians Of The Galaxy has certainly filled the Star Wars void for me.

Now on to the point. I've been collecting the Marvel Legends. They're better made figures. They're super cool characters who are relatable to boys and girls without forcing (no pun intended) it down our throats. Also, and a big deal, BUILD A FIGURE. I buy Marvel figures I don't even want so I can build that really cool figure in the series. I know some of you guys wan't that vintage packaging. And it sucks if the bubble on the card is too big and all that jazz, but I'm not buying packaging. If 1:18th and 1:12th Star Wars figures packed the quality and build a figure punch like Marvel I think it would help turn things around a little for Star Wars. S#!-, I would have even purchased a Rose figure if there were a fantastic BAF part in the box.

Question: Dear Hasbro, Why don't you standardize your action figure collections across the board? Cool packaging along with quality figures and BAF parts. Standardized connections for arms, heads and legs. Maybe even make all figures to come apart as easily as the build a figures so kids and adults can tinker with them and make what they want. Is this not a better selling model than what we have now. Can't all departments weather it Star Wars or Marvel work together to offer something innovative and imaginative? Just my thoughts on this subject.

Well sad to say I haven't been more active here, but I just talked with our SDCC Reporter Todd who is rearing to go for us again this year  so if you have any questions for Hasbro post em here and we will try to get as many answered in the ten minute time frame they give us (thats what they normally do).

Here is one I have been thinking of:

I think we can all say that the Hasbro Lab Khetanna was one huge success. Can we assume Hasbro Lab is going to continue? Any chance you can give us a hint of the next project or perhaps the line it will focus on or will this always be a go to Star Wars Project?

I was wondering if they were still doing these Q&As. I don't have any real intelligent questions, there's no need beating a dead horse about distribution. I am curious about TVC and it's future.

Is there a timetable for TVC, or is it indefinite, play it by ear?

Will there be 40th anniversary of ESB next year like ANH, in both 6" and TVC?

Will there be any more playsets for the future, like the Jabbas palace adventure set?

Will you continue the Jabba trend, if so any hints as to what we can expect?

That's about it for now. Those are just the ones off the top of my head.  Feel free to reword or combine with other questions.

A big shoutout to Todd for attending Hasbro‘s panel at SDCC for the Shipyards! Thanks Tamer for giving us the chance to gather some questions.
I think distribution is still an issue, but I hope Hasbro are aware of it by now.
In fact JD nailed the questions I had in mind:

The question how long The Vintage Collection will last, burns on my mind the most. I hope there’s is no date of expiration, yet.
I would appreciate more figures per year. But the pace is okay and saving our wallets.
A dedication to the 40th Anniversary of TESB would be awesome! I got many ideas in mind. More Playsets as JD already mentioned  would go along perfectly with this occasion. Also a repack of the Hoth AT-ST and some of the Rebel Hoth Turrets from the SOTDS Multipacks are just a few of them. What about the SOTDS Bespin Cloud Car in TVC packaging?
We also need a new Lobot in The Vintage Collection! A Bespin Playset (Carbon Freeze Chamber) would be nice, too!
I’ll think of a top ten list of characters for the Anniversary of TESB.

Also an old question, but are we going to see more characters of the Expanded Universe in the Vintage Collection like we did during the first run (Darth Malgus, Shae Viszla, Republic Trooper, Starkiller etc.)? I’m thinking of Satele Shan!

Is there any chance to change the release of Darth Revan? Instead of a straight repack, it would be way more attractive (and fair to 3.75“ collectors) to see the TBS Darth Revan scaled down on a TVC card.
The TAC Darth Revan could still be repacked in a TVC Special Action Figure Set along with a new/or retooled Darth Malak and a straight repack of HK-47 - another highly sought after figure. The Doctor Aphra Set was a huge success already, so please make it happen Hasbro!

The Jedi Temple Guard from 2015 reaches prices of $50 and more on the secondary market even though it’s a 5POA figure. How are the chances to get the license for a second release as SA version for The Vintage Collection?

We saw Starkiller of The Force Unleashed II on a Vintage Card (VC ) and fortunately he was repacked in The Black Series. But we only saw a single release of Galen Marek of the original title of the videogame just once in an Evolution Pack in 2008. How are the chances to see this figure on a Vintage Card? All versions of this character go for $30-40 loose on the secondary market by now.

How are the chances for cancelled characters of TLC and TLC 2 to eventually see the light of day such as the Ugnaught II (maybe as part of a Playset?), Utai II, Bespin Guard, Captain Rex Phase I, A-Wing Pilot etc.

Talking about A-Wings: How are the chances to finally see an all new A-Wing in The Vintage Collection after we got an X-, B- and Y-Wing already?

The new VC140 Stormtrooper is an absolutely fantastic figure! Please re-release him over and over again! How are the chances to see the Stormtrooer on a Star Wars card? Or even in different versions e.g. as Shadow Stormtrooper, Shock Trooper and Sandtrooper?

I got so many more, but since the time frame is very limited for Todd on SDCC, I’ll leave it at that. These are my most important ones. Please, let me know if you consider them important enough to take to San Diego.

I'm wondering if they have any plans to complete the original 92 figures in the Vintage Collection. Well there's more than 92, but let's not get greedy. Lol. There are still a lot of figures that haven't been updated, since then, or at best POTF2 era.  I do have to give them credit since "TVC2" started over a year ago, they have filled in some gaps, albeit they're mostly TBS repacks, but that's alright. Yakface was a good call. I would consider Stormtrooper and Death Star Gunner as original, even though they're Rogue One.

2 years there still no sight of any New Aliens to populate our scum and villainy of the cantina.  Will these fun characters be overlook yet another year?  Ariel Schous , Tzzivit, and Ranat just name a few wonderful choices.

The new Imperial Gunner although there minor differences between rouge one and original trilogy. This
Figure  has a lot going for it until  reach the head. The size of the head is sculpt as if it is human head instead of being a helmet like it was in the movie. Can please share why it so small not accurate like the rest of the beautiful body sculpt?

Repacking figures are healthy for a line; last 2 years it’s been more repacks than new figures,  how about upgrading more pre existing  sculpt like you did with Lando skiff
guard ( with new legs)and Han Solo stormtrooper (
Modified new torso) , instead of straight repacks.  Example momaw nadon( Hammerhead)- new legs and arms that are articulated!

Great job and Thank you! I'll cut the Hasbro team a little slack since Steve is gone, but they could only name one original 92 figure they haven't done? Just off the top of my head there's, lobot, bib Fortuna, bespin Lando, ANH Leia, ROTJ Emperor, Sim Aloo, Amanaman, pull apart C3PO, squidhead. The list goes on. So I'll take that as a big No.
Thank you, though, you did a great job with our questions.

I can only repeat what Tamer and JDeck said. Thank you so much for taking our questions right to Hasbro! Right when I saw that Tamer posted your interview on the frontpage I plugged in my headphones and listened closely. Now, I'm listening to it for the fifth time on my cell phone while I'm writing this comment.

You started off perfectly by telling them about the great reception of the Jabba's Palace Adventure Set - starting with a compliment is just brilliant and definitely not something usual for Hasbo.

It's so good to know that there doesn't seem to be an end of The Vintage Collection any time soon - the pace of the relaunch is somewhat slower, but this makes the hobby more affordable. I hope Hasbro make good profit with TVC. A second Star Wars project for HasLab is most likely to happen, but I find it only fair for fans of other brands to get the chance, now too. Did Hasbro really give a hint at the 1/12 scale Rancor to become a possible HasLab project? That'd be cool.
It's also good to know that Hasbro have got some stuff in the pipeline for the 40th Annoversary of The Empire Strikes Back! Of course Disney wouldn't let them share anything about it even though it has fortunately nothing to do with The Rise of Skywalker! It's Disney.
But listening to you and hearing ask you these questions just made my day! I hadn't expected that you were actually asking ALL of my questions! I rather thought you were picking just a few!
I tell you this made my day, Todd! I'm most happy and my sister came up to me and asked what had happened that I was so euphoric!  0/

Hearing the positive reaction of Hasbro regarding the AT-ST, Rebel Turrets and the Bespin Cloud Car is just plain awesome! I'm especially thankful to hear the answer to the Bespin Car! How awesome would it be to eventually see those in Vintage packaging?
Satele Shan of the Old Republic would be so excellent to see as super-articulated figure on Vintage card...and after this interview I'm even more optimistic that we're going to see more playsets!
There are just so many possibilities!
I'm a little shocked though that they did not have an image of the Jedi Temple Guard in mind...even though it's from 2015!
They just NEED to complete the original 92...Bib Fortuna, Lobot, the GONK droid are just three of them.
It's also most positive to hear that the echo even reached Hasbro about Darth Revan! It would be so great to see the 6" Revan scaled down...
An ALL NEW A-Wing would be equally excellent! Money on the table.
Maul is such a great character. With Hot Toys even releasing him based on his appearance in SOLO, I expect Hasbro to give us more versions of him in both scales, too.

Todd, thank you so much for your support for all of us!

This per some conversation with CL Yautja:

The Clone Wars is coming back. Please tell us you are gonna rerelease or give us a new LAAT! Republic Gunship!

Heaven forbid we get one that will carry our AT-TEs, and man wouldn't I love to see that vehicle come out of retirement too. Hasbro, can you do it?
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of SDCC 2019
Post by: Darth More on August 29, 2019, 06:17:05 AM
Yes, I followed his thread and this is a great request! The Republic Gunships from 2002-2010 go for 40-120€ loose here in Germany. I have never seen the TVC Gunship used online though. Maybe because it was a Toys "R" Us (USA only) exclusive...

The 2002 Gunship is still a great vehicle, but rather in 1/24 scale - not 1/18. So a new, bigger one would be very welcome after so many repaints - even in The Vintage Collection.
And you're right Tamer! I agree that we can be optimistic to see a Republic Gunship (LAAT/i) for the return of The Clone Wars. We saw two Gunships during the Clone Wars from 2008-2010 and the last release of The Vintage Collection is already 6 years ago.
But will it be an all-new one? I do hope so!

I know a to-scale release would be massive, but maybe the epic Republic Gunship will nominate as possible HasLab project. If it does I want it to be definitive.

Also a Republic Dropship (LAAT/c) would be great for a HasLab project...and we could go on with an AT-OT! LEGO have already given us those giant vehicles, so why can't Hasbro?
If people are already making suggestions for a G.I. Joe Gunship that would be huge, I definitely see a chance that Hasbro will do this kind of vehicles in the future. We just have to make noise - BIG TIME!

This image was leaked in the web back in 2008, but was never approved to be authentic. Some people claimed it shows the prototype of a Republic Dropship by Hasbro.
Or is it an Action Fleet version?
Do you remember this leak and know more about it? Please, let us know in the comments below!

That's amazing to know! But were they for 3.75" figures? Since they look more like action fleet vehicles in the pic I was wondering if they were. It would've been too good to be true! I think back in the day the MRSP would've been about $180 since the AT-TE sold for $99.99 and the TCW Gunship for $59.99. The retooling might've added another 20 bucks.
Today this set would be about $400 I guess? lol
If this was meant to be a set, it reminds me of a dream I once had. Actually one of the very few dreams I had about Star Wars and Hasbro.
I was in a Toys "R" Us store in the U.S. (which is a childhood dream alone!). And on the shelves they had these super sets including 3 to 4 Class II/Medium sized vehicles.
One set featured the Battle over Coruscant and included both Jedi Starfighters, a Vulture and a Tri Droid. The Buzz Droids were hanging in a seperate blister within the box to recreate the movie scene. Imagine a box, 4 feet long!, with a plastic window, a nice background print and all these ships in different pisotions, chasing each other (the CIS chaasing Obi-Wan and Anakin). Oh, and both figures were included, too!
I even remember the price tag of $89.99! There was a similar set with a Republic Fighter Tank (actual 1/18 scale), an AAT and some troops for $79.99.
When I woke up I wanted to fall asleep immediately again! This was pure sugar!

Reminds me of these sets:

Hahahah that dream is tooooo much! 😂 love it. I have dreams often of finding all kinds of SW toys... Just mountains of stuff at yard sales etc. And more and more keeps coming and I cannot grab it fast enough, hold it all or have enough money $$$$ (?)  BUT if you put it out to the universe it will come back to you... Always does... Strange but true.

Yeah that HAULER was 3 3/4 scale fans couldn't believe it. And this was years  before they even put the walker (think its still different mold too) so it was a double slap.

Love those big sets always wanted that Target one with the tank and walker.... Just looked soo great in the package. That TRU at-st pack was stacked at all locations I went. The price even on clearance was too much for people... Same with then JABBA one they did. But that was TRU fault they drove themselves into the ground with crazy pricing.

That Hoth Pack was great. Its still one of my favorite parts of my collection on display. I remember they did a great job that year with all the TESB stuff.

Do you have any questions for the Mad Jawa to present when he goes to the Hasbro Presentation? They usually always give the floor up for a few minutes for questions.

I for one can't wait to hear about more vintage products for the Mandalorian, especially in the 3.75" line up?

With the success of the Sail Barge, are there any hints about the next Star Wars HasLab Project?

I hope the presentation will showcase a few of those, but if not I am gonna let the Mad Jawa loose on em!

A new season of The Clone Wars is upon us. Could another re release of the old favorite, The Republic Gunship/LAAT be forthcoming?
Kind of lame, I know, I caught myself wondering this yesterday and what it would cost at today’s prices verses the last release we seen.

The obvious question is "why has Hasbro not released in TVC figures they released in TBS (e.g. Cal Kestis, Jannah, Dryden Vos and especially "The Child")?

More generally, why does Hasbro seem reticent to give us much new TVC product? There are cross-over characters from Solo to The Mandalorian, so why not make some of those?

On a more positive note: Could we please have a 1:18 scale Razor Crest?

THIS MUST BE SAID TO EVERY REP BOTH IN FRONT OF THE NEWS MEDIA AND TO EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE PRESENT:

1. YOU FAILED 3 3/4
2. NO GIMMICKS aka "junk grab lines"
3. "THREE" SCALES ONLY
        - 3 3/4
        - 6 inch
        - Micro Machines
        - 12 inch (*of 3 3/4)

AlSO TELL THEM:

NO MORE "MYSTERY RELEASE" NON-SENSE. SHOW THE PRODUCTS ASAP AND INSTANTLY OFFER PRE-ORDER (TO GAUGE PRODUCTION... THIS WAY YOU CAN GIVE US THE BEST PRODUCTS AND AVOID DJ/ROSE/JYN/SNOKE WAREHOUSES AGAIN).

THE VINTAGE COLLECTION: Make the entire line the vintage tri-logo design from the 80's with as little text as possible (character names only). Show on back of card ALL AVAILABLE products/line! 😵😵 finish the missing characters from the org line as exclusives and RE-LAUNCH... no numbering (Just re-fresh of character image for each time its re-released). ALSO drop the entire vehicle MSRP or make it exclusive only to whom/whenever... Also drop included figures for same reasons. Also re-brand the line: "Collector Series" To consumers.

6 INCH: CHOSE a number and end the Black Series line. Re-brand it the "Action Collection" or "Power of the Force (3)" this would combine: Collectability, nostalgia, focus and 100% support as the flagship line.

3 3/4: Is called just STAR WARS. As a budget line ("5 POA") you only have the character name/movie as a sticker on the package's bubble... Attached to a mini "vintage" cardback. The back reads or lists products, no pictures. The item also has no tray since the figure is tied to card. The figures for this line should also have zero or little accessories. Molded weapon hands are fine IF sculped nice AND "removable". The idea is $5 MSRP (forever) this way you bring back binge/lot purchases since sales would offer even more savings aka more product moving. By shipping army builders / chases in each assortment the main or "focus characters" would still be plentiful (for current push) but not overflowing. Aka everyone wants MANDO, B.YODA or TROOPERS but ya don't need overstock (TFA/TLJ/RO/SOLO history)

Also multipacks' need to return in full swing. All lines. Only make them sensible or if $$$ exclusive SIZEABLE (imagine a Haslab/Pulse: That offered 20 Stormtroopers + an large accessory or exclusive figure) the packaging for this line could also be diorama based (or included) cardboard.

MICRO MACHINES need to return permanently as a line. The MSRP needs to be honestly reassessed and so does the selection. This should be the 100% no brainer impulse/cash-grab line since that is why you bought it (and Galoob). Children and adults love small things soooo just pump it out. The details of the modern MM line (TFA/RO) are great but ya don't need to go far: The Original MM line was basic with wonky paint but that's fine since its all tiny.

RETRO: RE-BRAND as "KENNER COLLECTION" make the line a carbon clone of every single thing RE-ACTION/SUPER7 has done. Re-release character's in any and every variant. As long as MSRP doesn't go crazy, Kenner collectors will buy/support practically anything in this "museum line". The skies' the limit since this line would be both consumer and collector friendly: since its 100% nostalgia based. Also this line (heck ANY line) can be shipped in replica white-mailer boxes with figures in Kenner baggies - for both on-line or exclusive sales... That would drop both MSRP and production times.

A lot of nice stuff in the last few posts I so agree with.

After seeing Ron's work on the Ultimate Indy I have this question:

How about this idea? Take one or two 3.75" action figures and give them the "ULTIMATE" treatment. I mean packing them with accessories, weapons, extra appendages, face sculpts, dio pieces, etc. and really trick them out. Put this all in a vintage package and folks would go nuts for it.

I could even see doing this for perhaps one 3.75" and one 6" figure a year. Of course it would be a higher price point, but I think folks would really dig it.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of Toy Fair 2020
Post by: hemble on January 31, 2020, 06:35:37 PM
I have only have two questions for Hasbro. When do we get to see 6" line of Indiana Jones figures? these would sell just as good or even better then the SW 6" line as there are not just Indiana Jones collectors out there that would buy them.

Also with the SW 6" line or any line of figures you produce stop giving the figures those crappy double jointed knees and elbows. Back in the 80's early 90's the double joints were good but this day and age they look ridiculous, they make the figures unstable over time as the plastic you use is to soft and the knees bend and warp.

Give the figures ball joints this makes the figure way more stable and also more pleasing to the eye as the joints blend in with the rest of the body.

So come on Hasbro start thinking out side the box for a change and start listening to the fans and not the so called experts you have working for you as they have no idea what the fans want.

So after asking questions for a while and not getting any specific answers, I just started to make suggestions. And here are some that I didn't think of back in December:

General Questions:

1) What happened to the #TheVintageConversation, which Steve (Evans) started on Instagram back in 2018? Does it/Did it have any impact on current decisions?

http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=10412.msg205404#msg205404

The Vintage Collection

1) Is The Vintage Collection focused on The Empire Strikes Back this year and maybe the following year, too?
The answer has to be YES!

2) When is the promised Jabba on his Throne coming in The Vintage Collection?

3) Where is Greedo? We had not got any Greedo in 10 years! Please, give us a Greedo on Vintage card! What about Hammerhead?

4) Figures! Here are some suggestions for TVC figures of The Empire Strikes back:

- Imperial Snowtrooper
- Lobot
- General Rieekan
- Bounty Hunters! Bossk, 4-LOM, Zuckuss, IG-88 (make a good one!)
- Lobot
- unreleased TLC Ugnaught 2
- AT-AT Driver - New, TBS scale-down or TLC Repack
- Rebel Commander (Hoth)
- FX-7 Medical Droid on VC card

- unreleased TLC2 Captain Rex

- Plase, make a super-articulated version of the Jedi Temple Guard.
Let's show them a photo this time:

5) We've received some great choices for Expanded Universe (now LEGENDS) characters in The Vintage Collection of 2010-2012. How are the chances to see this section continue? What about a Satele Shan?

She would also be a great addition to the new 6" Black Series Gaming Greats line (for GameStop)!

Disney should like her, too, since she's a good & female character unlike their own!

6) What happened to VC150 Darth Revan? Are we getting an all-new Version of this great character in The Vintage Collection? Maybe a Sith and Jedi version as the 6 Inch line received to the total surprise of everyone?

7) What about a Special Action Figure Set of Knights of the Old Republic videogame including 3 figures:
An all-new Darth Malak, Bastila Shan (photo real update) and HK-47 (TLC B-A-D repack)?

8) Good choices for re-releases/repacks in TVC box/packaging:

Vehicles:

- SOTDS AT-ST (Hoth)
- SOTDS Bespin Cloud Car
- re-issue: TVC Slave I
- re-issue: TVC AT-AT (Hoth) BAT-AT
- re-issue: TVC Big Millenium Falcon (BMF, don't forget the right dish!)
- Please bring back those turrets from 2010!

Are we going to see the Imperial Shuttle (Tydirium) return in The Vintage Collection?

Figures:

- VC01 Dengar

NEW STUFF

WE NEED MORE STUFF FROM THE MANDALORIAN!!! In BOTH lines - TVC & TBS! Please!

Suggestions:

Please, give us finally The Emperor on his throne! Even if you just scale down The Black Series Version, but please - JUST DEW IT, NOW!

Playsets:

- Yoda's hut
- Carbon Freezing Chamber
- Hoth Trench (Vintage sytle playset/remake of the original Kenner one?)

Vehicles and Creatures

- Are we getting a Probe Droid for The Vintage Collection?
- Please, bring back Han Solo and his Taun Taun!
- What about a TVC Wampa? Or is the last ForceLink2.0 Wampa just fine?

- an ALL-NEW A-Wing for TVC! Do it Hasbro, pleeease!

HasLab

Any news on a second Star Wars HasLab Project?

What about a new, to scale Republic Gunship? In 1/18 scale it needs to be bigger than the only one we got since 2002, which is in 1/24 scale. The final Season of The Clone Wars would be a great Occasion, right?

I went through the recent Topics, again and here are three Questions we had in common, which also burn on  my tongue the most:

1) Why do you neglect The Vintage Collection so drastically compared to The Black Series 6 Inch line?
Will we ever see it at full power again with the variety and amount of products that you gave us between 2010 and 2012?

2) Unfortunately the plastic of army-builders like Stormtroopers and Clone Troopers are sensitive to daylight. Only their torsos turn yellow over time and ruin the entire figure by doing so. This is especially a pain in the neck when unique Troopers that were only released once in one line/pack turn yellow by the sunlight. Are you aware of ths problem and are you doing anything to prevent this phenmomenon in the future? Is the latest TVC Stormtrooper from Rogue One resistant against yellowing?
Figures have increased in price quite a bit over the last decade. They are sold for $12.99 in the U.S. and 18,99€ in Germany by now. That's more than for some Black Series 6 Inch figures. There has to be a material for the Torsos at this price tag, which is more resistant against light.

3) Which materials do you use for soft goods on the figures? And how do you cut them without causing any fray to the fabric?

Kind of short notice. It all depends on what they reveal tomorrow on their live stream thing, it's supposed to be some big reveals. At this point personally I am bewildered and bored with the repacks for TVC. So my question is, what's with all the repacks for TVC? The last comic Con they just revealed the GONK droid. How are people supposed to get excited about that? Yeah some people really wanted to see that figure on card, to be closer to the original Kenner, but c'mon. They could have revealed the K2SO at least. If they reveal something exciting and unexpected then I retract my question. However I am highly dubious.

Question:

Will we see more Clone ARC Troopers in The Vintage Collection (for example Echo & Fives from The Clone Wars or other ARC Troopers from the Expanded Universe)?

This question is inspired by forum member dax415, which we discussed here a couple weeks ago:

So let’s go back to the lab again and have a discussion on that Facebook livestream...

That Han in Carbonite in 6“ on Vintage card is awesome and the best thing about these 60 minutes of waisted lifetime.
Man, did all the scalpers of that Comic Con Boba & Carbo Han 2-Pack hate this announcement - loved it! Will the price drop from $300 now? Probably & finally!
This artificial limited and shorted supply of good stuff by Hasbro just SUCKS!

And TVC? Wow, we got 1 single announcement of YET ANOTHER REPACK! Luke in Stormtrooper disguise!
When you think it cannot get any more FRUSTRATING!

Oh, and Patrick said at the end The Vintage Collection is his favorite collection. That was a good joke. I punched myself that good it was...

That new updated TBS Stormtrooper is pretty nice though. Too bad they just won’t scale down any great 6 inch figures to 3.75 inch - like Darth Revan...

I now want my time back. The doorbell just rang for the fourth time...bye!

Lol someone asked if there will be an archive line for 3.75. TVC is the archive line for 3.75. I hope I don't do permanent brain damage from shaking my head and rolling my eyes so much. What's funnier is the Fans choice you get to choose the next repack!!! Yay!!. I just don't know what to say.

I mean yeah Archive line is great for the early waves that people missed out on, and that are in need of upgrading. Some of them more so than just a pretty face. Like Slave Leia needs to be done altogether with new joints like Dagobah Luke has. R2 needs to be a bit bigger. I'd be interested to see what people come up with, I have no idea. Of course I'm not interested in 6", and I don't have Facebook. I heard the comments section was really funny, but again I couldn't see them because I don't have an account. I had to stop mid way anyway because I had an irate customer emailing everyone on Earth, so I had to stop and deal with that.

Ok, just got done with the Team (same folks from the Pusle Livestream on Friday).

I warned them I was going to sound like a broken record, but what about the 3.75" line and lack of new decently articulated products? All the attendees were shaking their heads yes when I said that. It was nice for the team to see it was a major concern for all the fan sites.

I left the question feeling a lot better than I did on Friday. One, they stressed this line is not going away nor is the vintage line going away period. They do have new products planned for this. They didn't argue that the 6" line was their primary focus as that is where their business model says they should focus but they are aware of this line and are going to try and do a better job to prove it to us that is going to stay around for a long time. I really liked the guy and didn't feel like he was feeding me a line of bull.

Then came the what about the Clone Wars Line in 3.75"?

Have patience. They do know about the new season of The Clone Wars and how cool it is. He didn't come right out and say it, but I definitely left that question knowing there are at least things coming if not a dedicated line to it. We will be getting some The Clone Wars stuff!

Us 3.75" fans are starving for new product. Since new figures in 3.75" scale have become a rarity, how about some more multipack sets? Each set could come with 2 new figures and 1 repack army builder. Example - Moff Gideon (new), The Client (new), Death Trooper (repack with slight weathering).

They like this idea. There is a tooling constraint. They are also aware fans want this. Congnizant of some fans only wanting one figure out of the three, but they are thinking of releasing packs like this on indvidual vintage cards still in a three pack format. They kept saying they do like this format to get more figures of this scale out to fans.

I person from a European Collecting Site asked about the SDCC Exclusives and the announced Amazon exclusives.

They are definitely still gonna make those available (the SDCC Exclusives) even though there isn't going to be one this year. They are quite sure about when or the format (I think we all just assumed pulse here).

I then had a perfect chance to throw in the question about how can you ensure those great vintage carded figures show up decently shipped from amazon (everyone was shaking their head also at that one)?

They are going to share those concerns we have with Amazon to ensure we get good shipped products. They do not want those products to show up damaged. I felt good at least knowing they were going to make the attempt to improve the shipping.

Some other odds and ends from the other questions.

There were a lot of comments from non US Sites about getting product and continuing to get product. It sounded like they were definitely amenable to hearing their solutions and making sure they got the same access to these products like folks in the US. The barge came up quite a bit and how it really wasn't widely available to non US and Canada folks.

Somoene brought up a 12" line possibility. That seemed to get shot down pretty quickly about not having too many scales out there at one time.

Someone else brought up the need for more Clones in the Black Series Archive Line, that definitely sounded like something they were going to entertain. We all agreed folks would love to see clones, especially clone commanders show up there.

Someone else asked about getting certain figures on certain cards and while I got a bit confused about what they were talking about what I did get out of the team was that they were definitely willing to bring past iterations of legacy or saga figures out again in the current line.

Another person had a question about a lot of characters that have not seen life in the Black Series (TFA, TLJ, TROS) in basically the postquels. They said bascially that they try to spread that around to all the movies.

I also forgot yesterday someone asked if the amazon exclusive Han in Carbonite Slab is the same as the SDD Exclusive back in 2013. It is. This new Han in Carbonite will be the same offering from SDCC.

There was also a question about the new Prototype Fett helmet and if it will have any of the scarring on it that was seen back in the day and they said what we saw is what we are getting.

All in all I felt the team was very amenable and really did want to hear from us even if the questions were a bit tough. I just jumped right in, probably I was in a what the hell moment as I am sicker than a dog right now, and I figured I might get the ole stink eye or a what do you mean type answer, but it was nice to see the brand manager shake his head and acknowledge that he wished he had done a better job last Friday talking about that and putting our fears to rest. It was my first foray with him and I feel he really likes Star Wars and wants to get us the figures we want from this "historic" line. So, I wish I had a bunch of new figures I could say we were getting right now, but I do feel new figures will be coming and then we better buy the heck out of em (he did say let your wallets do the talking).

I am sick right now so I will try to do a better job of rehashing this later, but that was the gist of the talk. They were very nice. Hey I just found out I don't have Covid! Whew!

Thank you for covering this, Tamer & get well, soon! Sorry for my impatience - I had assumed that Hasbro did that Q&A right after their Fans first event on Friday. I'm glad they didn't so that Folks could make up their minds…

Gute Besserung!

I think I did pretty good for having almost an 103 degree temp at the time. I am definitely feeling better this morning. Going to take me a few days to get back up to speed, but I knew folks wanted these questions asked so I did. I also added a few more questions I remember them asking.

There were quite a few European Sites and their main questions were just about getting product to buy and I was hopeful that Hasbro and the team was really listening to that.

Thank you Tamer, I think you did a great job even for someone not sick. I'm as glad as you are you don't have the Corona, I hope you're better soon.
I'm glad you keep asking about 3.75. sometimes you have to put fire under their butts to get anything done. I'm in sales, and sometimes I get complacent and under sell. I think that's what is happening with TVC. They starve the market then complain sales are low. I would think the barge being a success, would send a message that TVC is sellable if they make cool stuff. Wave one was a disaster, mainly because it was 5/6 repacks, and a figure with no accessories. Repacks are killing the line. Repacks should be few and far between, not several waves of repacks.

Yeah its hard to let your wallets do the talking when there isn't product to buy too. I did bring up that about the only new things we know we are getting is the new Wolffe and Gonk and that has been since Toy Fair. Once again, they acknowledged that they need to do a better job showcasing the line so hopefully I got them thinking a bit more about it. It was pretty cool to see the other interviewees shake their heads vigorously when I brought it up. I tried not to be a jerk, but just put it out there. I just didn't want them to not answer.

Feeling even a little better today. Still feel like I have a ways to go before I am back full time though. Whew!

You can still watch the presentation on Facebook with all the comments and reactions down below if you missed the event. Volker from StarWars-Figuren.com screen-recorded it for us to watch in case you won't find it later or Hasbro will just remove it from their Pulse page:

The Fan First Event begins at 4:34

Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of Toy Fair 2020
Post by: Darth More on June 23, 2020, 02:24:02 AM
So here're my thoughts:

First off, I thnk it's wonderful that the Hasbro brand team for Star Wars host these Fan events and provide a dialogue with their fans and customers. I don't know Patrick and Emily personally, so I won't judge. I hadn't known Emily since yesterday. Have you known she's been a member for 11 years already?! Derryl and Steve left so I think I just have to get along with the fact that the brand team is different now.

The Vintage Collection

As a fan and collector of TVC I felt the last livestream was a waste of time. Didn't feel like it this time.

It was nice to see that they began with The Vintage Collection this time around. That was a nice dedication for a line that feels about to die, again. I hope they keep the dialogue with their fans even though only a few chosen ones of us are able to speak up. My messages would never get through their firewalls writing from outside the U.S. I love democracy!

Chirrut Îmwe

When he was rumored on Yakface.com it was a good day for me already! When I saw the first images last night, his headsculpt looked a litle off at first glance. But the figure looks solid over all and I hope the face will look as good as on Cara Dune for example. I just hope Chirrut will look as good as some other latest additions to TVC since he's one of my favorite characters of Rogue One. Great start!

Carbon Freezing Chamber Playset with Stormtrooper

It was great seeing Patrick having the box of the set in hand despite Corona. Well, maybe Hasbro can print a box sample on Rhode Island themselves and don't need China to do so. The playset itself reminds me of the TPM Naboo Final Duel playset from 1999. Yet, it looks a little scarce in my opinion. A panel and some tubes hanging from the ceiling would've been nice to make it feel more like a playset. To me it rather looks like a display piece. Hasbro could've done more, but I'm not complaining. At least we get stuff like this so amen. It was a smart move to give us the option to buy two sets to complete the circle and to have a complete freezing chamber. If they're even smarter they'll release a 2-Pack with a couple Ugnaughts and some accesories to add to this Playset similar to those Kmart exclusive Death Star Scaninng Crew sets...

It's probably no coincidence that they only include one army-builder with this set. So having an OT Stormtrooper WITH holster now is something many collectors have been hoping for. They just had to choose this one specific image for the cardback. I'm glad they actually did. The card looks great for this Bespin Stormtrooper. Han in carbon block will probably come as the only accessory in just a plastic bag.
So most of us will probably buy two of this set. If Hasbro won't add more accessories to it, I'll probably do so myself. Let's keep fingers crossed that they got Lobot, Ugnaughts and other characters from Cloud City on their radar now. I don't mind that we just get one figure included with this set this time if the MRSP will drop to $39.99, too.

Princess Leia (Hoth Escape)

I think Emily gave away quite a lot about how she thinks for the brand team. She said that she recognized that they didn't have a screen accurate Leia figure to add to the diorama. We call this "learning by doing" here in Germany. Is there no way that we can possibly get Princess Leia from A New Hope for hell's sake?! Do they have to build a diorama of the very first scene of STAR WARS before they realize how long overdue this character is?! I'll go shoot both of my knees, now!
They used the OTC Lobot for this shooting, which has got a great sculpt, but is not super-articulated. I remember getting him in an outlet toy store in New York for $4.99 back in 2005.

To be fair: The rendering of Bespin Escape Leia looks great so far! Again, if Hasbro is able to make all female characters look as excellent as Cara Dune, I'm all in for the eternal delay of updated Leia figures. "The later the better" seems to be the motto here.
But as funtomaz already wrote in a comment o JTA already: Why didn't they show us a figure that's further in development already? Fies and Hondo come to mind, but they probably save these for their cancelled show events like SDCC.
That Bespin Escape Leia looks like it is going to be a great figure. And it's OT! And I hope we'll also get ANH Leia, soon.

Next HasLab Project will be for The Vintage Collection!

With their mad love for The Black Series, I honestly expected Hasbro to dedicate the next HasLab project to The Black Series. It would've been fair in my opinion. However they teased that the next one will be for The Vintage Collection, again - the true scale to build worlds with vehicles and playsets ;)
My first guess was the Millenium Falcon, but it seems that TARGET will get the Falcon from Galaxy's Edge as a $399.99 exclusive item. Nothing was told about this rumor yesterday, but Yakface got all the insight.
So what could it be instead? I think it has to bee all-new and never been done before to apply to a HasLab, right? What about the Razor Crest? It'd be awesome if it was to scale. But isn't it too popular to become a HasLab project? Hasbro could sell enough Crests with a regular release, couldn't they?
Another hot candidate is the GHOST from REBELS right?

Personally, I'd go nuts for a modualar set of the Mos Eisley Cantina with different modules to add. Ot they'd just do a complete Cantina right away.

Another possibility is a Death Star playset. Or a Tantive IV / Star Destryoer playset? What do you think?

The Black Series

If every fan event was like yesterday's, fans of TBS and haters of TVC would know how TVC fans have been feeling over the years. I can just talk for myself and man am I happy to only collect select characters in 6". If I was a completist I would just go mad! More repacks for TBS! If you put it in a positive way: Hasbro gives you options! You can pick the nicest packaging design for your 20 -dollar-purchase. Personally, I'm so glad I didn't buy all the black and red boxes. The packaging keeps looking better and better.

Fan's Choice Winner for The Archive Line

I seriously wonder why Hasbro need a fan's choice poll to pick the next figure to add to their re-issue line. Are they that uncreative? It seems like they're aliens to their own brand. "Yeah guys, please tell us what to do because we ain't have a clue!"
We all know it was Leia (Slave Outfit), but since her costume doesn't fit into today's political correctness in times of Shades of Grey and other premium titles, she won't happen, again.
Because Disney.

Commander Cody however is an excellent choice. He's the one I hoped for to win. I always voted for Slave Leia just to challenge Lucasfilm/Disney and Hasbro.

So that's all I got to say about this...event.

Some good thoughts Philipp. I agree with most of your points. Here is what I am left with:

Carbon Freeze playset with no hook thingy for the carbonite block? Cmon man! And you have to buy two to get a complete playset? I can see this going on clearance quickly and then it will sell. I do like the Stormtrooper though. Lets hope that means more figures to go on this too. Maybe a deluxe set with a grapply thing down the road too. I can't see not having the grapple.

Meh, on the rest of the 40th Anvs. 6" figures. I will probably get em, but man all repacks.

Didn't take em long to recard the new Hoth Trooper too!

It was nice to get some new reveals and stuff though. I felt much better than last time and it was nice to see them understanding concerns about TVC. And Philipp I have been at this awhile with Hasbro and I sure didn't see that one gal till yesterday either!

It will be nice to see the new HasLab. Save your deniro people. Hope its a real size Razor Crest!

Good points indeed Darth Moore. It wasn't disappointing, but the hype surrounding it was a bit much. TVC Monday, 3 reveals, TBS gets more reveals on a monthly basis, but I'm not complaining. There's a guy I listen to on YouTube, he's right on about rumors. He said, the carbon freezing chamber was a two parter. Little did I know it was the same thing you have to buy twice. It's a cool display piece, but the claw machine would have been cool. I guess from an engineering standpoint it really couldn't work, and still retain it's aesthetics. You know someone is going to make the claw machine. I probably will give it a try.

Chirrut looks awesome! Rocker ankles? hell yes please! Good accessories too. I was really hoping they would show Hondo, but I guess he's basically a scaled down version of the 6" exclusive.

Bespin escape Leia was on my wish list early on. We all knew it would be a kitbash, but a kitbash is better than a straight repack any day. Ball jointed hips would have been nice, but I'll take it.

I've heard rumors of a build up figure, but there is no consensus on whether it's TBS or TVC. I was hoping they would get to that but, next time I hope.

Fellow UK etailer Star Action Figures listed the Bespin Playset for pre-order. They got it for £44.95.

https://www.staractionfigures.co.uk/E9596.html

Tamer: Thanks Tamer! Today, I've learned that the Bespin Playset will also have a MRSP of $49.99. If it is almost $100 to have a complete platform, I agree that this is a joke! This display looks rather scarce and even on the cheap side. There are other toy companies that can sell an item like this for $24.99. I've seen bigger sets with better value for $14.99 just recently. Regardless of the high license fee, there must be a way to keep the price down. I will not pre-order this set at full price. The Jabba's playset got a much better value for the money.  It's almost unbelievable how cheap Hasbro was on this set. I don't hope they'll become like LEGO: zero content for a high price point. Some years ago they were like playmobil: much content with generous accessories for a fair price. To me playmobil still is the best toy manufacturer considering their stable price-value-ratio. And most items are sold even cheaper than the already fair MRSP here in Germany.

Talking Black Series: I think the Hoth Rebel Soldier is one brilliant figure! Didn't we all wish Hasbro would repack such excellent army-builders at least a trillion times? So far we got him on the 40th Anniversary ESB card, the black/red box and soon in the gorgeous new packaging design. I like it!
Also the Snowtrooper was a great choice. The ANH images for the 40th ESB cards on the other hand are just embarrassing!

JDeck: Thank you, JD! I absolutely agree with you on the hype before this Fan First Monday...especially because Mr Steve Evans himself announced it to be the event of the year for The Vintage Collection. It has gone pretty far.
lol you're right on TBS - TBS collectors must feel like 3 3/4" collectors between 2006-2012 right now! It just keeps getting better and better.
Who's this guy you listen to on YouTube?

I followed a recommendation in a FB group and watched the video of RetroBlasting about the Bespin set:

It's ridiculous that this thing should cost $49.99 with just one figure and NO accessories! This is not what we meant when we suggested modular sets right? Maybe we forgot different modular sets to combine...good greef are they greedy nowadays!

Yeah, Chirrut deserves rocker-ankles. So does Leia her ball-jointed hips. And Hondo would be a win if they just scaled don the 6" version.

Some 6 inchers dream of a Rancor as build-up figure. My question is: how would parts of a Rancor fit into the new TBS boxes?
I'm pretty sure that build-a-figure idea goes to The Black Series - just like they do with other 6" figures i.e. MARVEL. If the Vintage Collection goes on hiatus in some years (decade?), a return of The Legacy Collection would be nice. We both agreed earlier that TLC has just more options and liberties.

I just got this in from Entertainment Earth based on a previous order with a small refund

"The R2-D2 action figures in this assortment may have damaged packaging. Unfortunately, Hasbro does not have replacements available at this time. To our knowledge and based on the way this wave was manufactured, all units available in this wave in the United States are in this condition."

WTH Hasbro? Repacks on damaged cards and you still shipped em out?

I have to get em five good questions by Monday at 4PM.

Anyone have any good questions for Hasbro?

And I just put product announcements on the front pages for three new items in case you haven't seen em yet.

Of course all this would go down today when I am so busy! Oh well, new stuff is always good news. Tamer out!

Preselected questions, what is this a Joe Biden interview? A lot of my questions end up being suggestions, and I don't think that's the purpose of the qna. I would ask about brick and mortar distribution, but that dead horse has been beaten into the ground, and preordering has become mandatory.

How bout, how do preoders sell out so quickly?
Why do preorders sell out so quickly on pulse?
What are the real advantages of a pulse account?
Is pulse directly tied to Hasbro, or is it just another online retailer?
How come you can't buy full cases on pulse?
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 10th, 2021

Thanks for the questions JDeck. And yes, they started this back a few years ago. I am guessing they were lambasted a few times and don't want surprises.

You would be quite correct on the distribution question. It has been asked and asked and asked again.

One question I do want to follow up with them on is about the shipping of vintage figures on amazon and wal-mart. I had asked them the last time if there is anything they could do to get amazon to ship their products in boxes, not envelopes as things were arriving damaged and they said they would pass that on, but wondering how they address those things with their etailers. I have a feeling once amazon or walmarts get em they could care less.

Is anyone like me wondering if we are going to get the real Bad Batch in the vintage collection?
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 10th, 2021
Post by: Darth More on July 10, 2021, 09:13:36 AM
Yes, please ask for the Bad Batch! It's a no-brainer to not make them in TVC as well.

When I found the 4-Pack on Amazon Spain (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=2798.msg225605#msg225605) yesterday, I noticed that it was listed as SW VIN EPIC.

1. This makes me wonder if this is a code for a sub-assortment for TVC. If there are more EPIC Packs like this, it would open many more possibilities to give consumers a kind of Battle Pack as we used to have until the Movie Heroes line. That'd be my question.

2. Is there any chance to finally see Satele Shan from The Old Republic in TVC (and Black Series) Gaming Greats? She would be the perfect counterpart of Darth Malgus (VC96).

3. Is an all-new Darth Revan figure now coming to the Gaming Greats line of The Vintage Collection?
The Black Series got 3 full runs (including the latest update for the Archive Line) and even a Jedi version of Revan so far!

Thank you.

Why do preorders sell out right away
Do you have any measures to ensure fair access to ordering preorders?
Are bots ordering from your online stores/channels
Are you aware of scalpers
Why not make your products more accessible if you sell them online anyways?
Whats the point of online exclusives?
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 10th, 2021
Post by: JDeck on July 10, 2021, 12:42:14 PM
Any exclusives are dumb. If Retailers were competative and kept their inventory stocked they wouldn't need exclusives to get people to buy from them.

Im pretty bitter about the Emperors throne room being an SDCC/Pulse premium club member exclusive. You pay all that money for a slim chance of getting these exclusives that should be mainstream releases. I can see the Dave Filoni pilot, ill give them that, but the other two. That's just wrong man. In a standing position my little 5poa forcelink emperor, looks way better with sculpted robes. The soft goods look like he's wearing a trashbag.  If the throne was standard id buy it with bells on. My only hope is the rerelease it, but I'm not holding my breath.  I'll probably go out of my way not to buy the single carded emperor just out of spite. Yeah i can be petty, but it's just wrong to make the throne so unattainable, therefore making the soft goods pointless, for a vast majority of us. That's my occasional rant.

I absolutely agree with you JDeck! There is much to be asked about the actual purpose and advantages of a Hasbro Pulse membership. So they charge you a premium of $50 every year. That's actually a pretty expensive lottery ticket.

There's much potential still not used by Hasbro. And I'm excited to hear their answer to your excellent questions.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 10th, 2021
Post by: JDeck on July 10, 2021, 04:56:12 PM
I think pulse is a big time scam. You pay $50 (I thought it was more, but still) you get "free shipping for the first year", which means after the first year you pay for shipping. Access to these stupid exclusives, like the sdcc and the dumb fan choice figure, that will probably sell out instantaneously. Which is dumb because they can figure they have X amount of members and Y amount of star wars buyers, we should pre-preorder Y amount of figures, but no! They're the first ones to sell out, so you still have to buy from someplace else all the while paying the stupid fee. Screw that. I have been getting free Amazon for several years, but finally had to pay $115, but that's okay because I'm actually able to use it and it pays for itself. Pulse does not. I could use that $50 add it to the cost of the throne room playset and buy it on ebay, at least ill have a better chance of getting it.  I would be very surprised if they answer any real questions. That's why it's all preselected so they don't look stupid in front of their shareholders.  If they answer the question Id be willing to listen with an open mind. Pulse has potential, but they aren't using it.

Here is my quick typed version to the answers Hasbro gave me, but I will have a video link from the full conversation when Hasbro releases it so you can see the full dialogue. One had to remember that they are not allowed to really talk about future products, but they do give a lot of hints and really you can read between the lines on some of these future coming products.

Questions for the Star Wars Brand Team

1. We asked a previous question about seeing some serious damage on vintage products shipped by Amazon? Did you get any feedback from them about how they are shipping your products? Please can we get them to ship in boxes instead of envelopes? We need to add Wal-Mart to that list now too!

They do take our shipping concerns to the etailers and are constantly working with them and us to get us undamaged products.

2. We were surprised at how quickly your Bad Batch Vintage 4 Pack sold out and were glad to hear there were going to be more offered down the road. Is it a no brainer to assume you are going to do a Bad Batch Vintage 4 Pack or Battlepack that actually has our Bad Batch Squad in the 3.75" line? You could even do a separate pack with Crosshair and some of the bad guys!

They said they were not allowed to comment on upcoming products, but it was definitely on their radar. I definitely got the feeling this was going to happen.

3. We got this from quite a few people; Can Hasbro please go back to using heavier card stock on the VC figures please?

They kind of shared this when I was talking about the shipping damages from walmart and amazon, but they did reveal they were going back to heavier cardstock for figures.

4. Is there a plan to continue/complete the Retro line of figures? If so, how often can we expect new releases?

They didn't give me any timetable to how often we can expect new releases, but they did say they loved the line and it will definitely continue.

5. Can we get more funky background aliens. With Ponda Baba and Dr Ez coming soon we need more!

There were quite a few questions and answers regarding this new set (please watch the video when it releases) and I immediately followed up with how we need all the great aliens. You will be able to tell by their comments that we will be getting more of these backgroudn aliens for our Cantina and I bet even more cantina pieces.

6. Is pulse directly tied to Hasbro, or is it just another online retailer?

It is tied directly to Hasbro and they use their experiences there to try and make products better for the fans and the other etailers that are selling their products. I definitely encouraged them to share their shipping practices with walmart and amazon so we didn't keep getting damaged products.

Great job Tamer, I saw some of it on YouTube, skipped to your questions as I was short on time.

For them to suggest the Bad Batch are not in fact no-brainers has me scratching my head. Of couse they're no brainers. I don't even buy clones, at all and id buy them  they're the most action figurable characters since Boba Fett. Maybe their being coy, because everything is such a big secret like they're working on the Manhattan Project.
I wish it was more discussion oriented, because a follow up to is Pulse linked to Hasbro would be, why does pulse sell out preorders? To me there seems to be a big disconnect.
But anyway, good job Tamer, thanks for taking the time to deliver our questions.

Your welcome JDeck. It was good to get back into it. I think it was awesome they let slip about the next HasLab Project (2:07 in the video which is on the front pages) and then were pretty much we can't talk about what is coming out later, but still hinted at what is coming out later. It would be interesting if they would do these Q and A Sessions as the reveal sessions themselves rather than they way they do them. I think it would be a lot more fun to ask questions and then have them reveal some things along the interview process.

And yes Bad Batch is a no brainer. It was interesting to see the looks on all the other site questioner's faces when Patrick said that about Bad Batch. Uh, of all the characters to make into the vintage line one would have thought those would have been first. That might be a good follow up when they do release info on em.

Why didn't you release Hunter, Crosshair, Wrecker, Tech, and Echo first for this line?
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 10th, 2021
Post by: JDeck on July 16, 2021, 07:01:52 AM
The bad batch are basically Star Wars GI JOEs, Hasbro couldn't be given a greater opportunity.   If it were my decision, I would release the entire bad batch in two 3-pack waves. Hunter, Omega, Wrecker in one 3pack. The size and tooling for wrecker would be offset by the smaller omega figure, and the omega figure wouldn't "pegwarm" because it's in a 3pack. Then the second 3pack would be Crosshair, Echo and Tech. Done deal. As far as im concerned they don't need any more BB figures after that, they can go back to doing whater they have planned.

The expression on Patricks face when he slipped the Rancor was priceless. Then he tried to double back as if he didn't just say it. We all pretty much figured out it was a rancor already.
Title: Re: General Questions for Hasbro as of July 10th, 2021
Post by: Tamer on July 16, 2021, 07:38:23 AM
I like your idea about the releases of these. Or just do two battlepacks from yesteryear. We have the full good guy squad with Omega and then a bad guy pack with Crosshair and his cronies.

And yes, you could see the look when he realized what he did. I bet he spent the rest of yesterday putting out fires.

Another thing that was interesting was their take on doing figures in animated style. It just ain't happening. Vintage 3.75" line is it for that scale and they are only doing those figures in realistic style. I could see there being a great animated line made out of this, but I guess it will never happen.

I was also glad to hear that they are planning a Black Series X-Wing. Thats another no brainer, that and an AT-ST.

I think the only way we get a Falcon and an AT-AT is with a HasLab Project. I wish their first Black Series HasLab Project would have been a bit grander in scale as I think a Rancor wouldn't have been out of the realm of possiblities to release for the anniversary of ROTJ here in a few years. Still a Rancor will be cool. Trying to decide if I want and/or have the space for it. I bet the unlocks will be cool for it to.

Yeah i think the Rancor will be really awesome. I imagine articulated hands, jaw along with everything else. Probably some accessories like the leg bone or a half eated gamorean guard or something. Maybe a pack in figure like rancor keeper.  Not my scale, but I'm very curious though. My wallet can live without another tvc haslab for a while.

Yeah 3.75 5poa cartoon lines are done. To be honest if I were 6 years old I'd be all into the mission fleet, you get a figure and a decent looking vehicle.

Amen!

So happy for all 6 inch fans & collectors! I suppose they'll add wire to the fingers as they did on the Legacy Collection 1/18 scale version. That might be a better aesthetic than joints for the fingers. Very curious if there'll be tier goals and if so which ones. Half-eaten Gamorrean sounds good to me! Malakili, Giran and Twi#lek dancer sound even better to me!

There's already people out there complaining that it's not a TVC haslab. The RazorCrest is still in production lol.
Yeah they'll probably do some kind of hidden hand articulation. Im thinking it'll be like a plastic skeleton, but with a rubber shell or glove, similar to the black series jabba. The "bendums" style wire would not be fitting of the haslab quality, i would hope. You figure this will probably be a $300 thing. Not terribly big, 15 inches maybe. Don't want to end up like the 6 inch tie and go to crap after a month.  Even Hot Toys has issues with their rubber skin breaking down over time. Hasbro had similar issues with the elite series or whatever they were called they had vader and luke, then quit the project.  I dunno, we'll see.

I think the jabba's palace is fantastic, but I already made one that is custom made to fit on my shelf, with plenty of room for all my guys. This one is a whole lot better, but also bigger. I just want it for the accessories, but $230 plus tax is a lot. Since it's pulse exclusive, i can't wait for it to clearence out. I just spent about that much yesterday on their morak drivers.  I wish I could, it's great but I really shouldn't.

I invented a new drinking game where you take a drink everytime they say celebrate. Buzz words!

If the throne room was about $130-$150 cheaper, I would get one. As I get older, I can think of a lot of other/better things I can spend my $$ on.

Yeah, it is awesome there is no doubt about that. I kept hoping to hear it was around the $150 price point. I think folks might have stomached that.

This is probably gonna be one of those items like the Sail Barge that go for outrageous prices after this though. I still look for it to sell out.

And how about we make em not store exclusives so some of us can get em. There is no way I will get that Blue X-Wing.

Of course I haven't been asked to join them for awhile. I wonder if they will start this again?

The live stream felt professional to me because it was straight forward and didn't feel like wasted time.
Happy to celebrate the new reveals and am especially happy for all the Black Series fans out there.
Bastila Shan and Darth Malak are a welcome addition to the Gaming Greats lineup and look well done.
Doctor Aphra was such a smart repack with additional accessories and Mara Jade will perform excellently, too.

Who knows why the brand team decided to make an all new Z-94 Speeder Bike for the Vintage Collection. But they did a great job. I like the one from 2012 a lot as I said in my review (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=10614.0).
Maybe they lost the tooling, maybe Toys R Us took the exclusive rights for it with them to the grave.
Or they wanted to update the display stand to make it a small version of the Black Series one.

I think with a life-long patience, it's a good time to be a collector. Age may vary.

I agree Philipp. Why they didn't bring that older speeder bike back out is beyond me. It was great. Didn't really see the need for a new one. Kinda wish they had spent that money on new tooling for a new vehicle or smaller rig or something along those lines.

The TVC Heavy Mandalorian is gonna be nice too.
