Title: AT-DP
Post by: Tamer on February 19, 2014, 03:14:25 AM
One of the vehicles I liked from the show was the AT-DP shown here in our Galleries:
(http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f115/CTtamer/CTtamer059/at-dplarge_zps8ad3698d.png) (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/Galleries/2014-hasbro-entertainment-toys-preview/040-4)
One of the things Dan confirmed while there was that this does not have any leg articulation. For me, seeing as how wonky and prone to break the joints on the newer at-st were, I am not necessarily seeing this as a bad thing. Now I know this goes against everything I hold holy in my SW collecting about removing articulation, but does anyone else agree with me?

It's probably just me, but something about it always makes me think of the Zentraedi Officer's Battle Pod from Robotech (minus the arms).

I hope that makes it cheaper.

The top part could be used for customizing, but I'm not going to buy it just for that. 99% of the time no articulation means no money leaving my pocket and going into Hasbro's.

Same.  I was planning on purchasing 4 possibly 5 of these...not any more.  My AT-ST stands perfectly fine with all the articulation in place.  Even the Kenner AT-ST has legs that moved when you pressed a button...C'mon Hasbro...you can do better than this surely?

Such a shame...the head looks good BUT the legs are a let down.  I'll be leaving this vehicle on the shelf.

The head looks pretty good in my opinion. Especially the engravings are very fine.
I would like to see some pics of the interior (cockpit).

I really like this design, I would get one except I'm trying to stick to OT purchases, it almost seems that the "Rebels" line is going to be super basic.

I'd only consider it if the price point is < $20.  Even then, I'd stare at it until I finally picked up some nylon nuts and washers to make some of my own upgrades.

Super basic indeed man.  It's looking more and more likely that I'm passing over the entire Rebels line at this rate.  I was planning on getting the AT-DP and the Phantom Fighter but now after seeing the AT-DP up close and it's lack of articulation in the legs department I think I'll be passing on the Phantom Fighter in protest hahahaha.....I mean if the AT-DP is this basic how basic is the Phantom Fighter up close?

One question that I haven't seen asked or queried is about the quality of the plastic being used.  Is the plastic going to a cheap and flimsy rubber type type mix like in the B.A.D Astromech legs or is it going to be a solid rigid form that can take some beating without breaking into 1000 bits?  Time will tell I guess.

Rebels...meh...PASS

This thing is stellar.

More articulation in the legs would be nice, but I'm just glad to see a new walker - they are the coolest vehicles in Star Wars to me.  And this one screams OT.  Love it.  I would like to get a few of them.

New Walker!!!...I think this thing should be called a Stander because that's all it does  ;D ;D ;D

I'm hoping with Hasbro's news that some, if not all, of the Rebels line will be done with SA somewhere down the track this vehicle gets another release with articulated legs.

While the five POA figs are killing it for me, I actually don't mind the lack of leg articulation too much.  Would I prefer it articulated? Sure.  Do the shrunken vehicles stink?  Absolutely.  But for a two-legged walker, there really isn't that much posing to do, and an army of walkers posed in the exact same position isn't as awkward as an army of identically posed humans.

BUT, that opinion may change when the vehicle is in hand.

Ah, I figure by the time this thing comes out you guys will have figured out a fix for the legs anyhow. Then, I can buy two initially; one to leave in its carded configuration and then one for me and my daughter to man handle. Right now it will probably be the only thing outside of the TESB OT line I get.

What would be cool is to get a standard fix and tutorial for the legs for this figured out and posted so once they start hitting retail we can give folks a ready plan to add more articulation if they wish. If anyone wants to tackle that project let me know and we can try and offer this to the masses.

Well, I certainly don't see an "easy fix" to add more articulation to those legs without some significant work.  Each leg appears to be one solid chunk of plastic.

This thing looks really tall, doesn't it?  I'd live to see a figure next to it.

I agree.  Seems like a lot of work to fix what Hasbro should of done in the first place.

I does appear rather tall.

A Locust 'Mech - that's what it looks like!

We got to talking about this a bit last night on CAFN. I almost think now it might be easier to replace the entire leg section than chop these up to add joints. Wonder what that AT-ST Legs would look like in it?

I definitely see elements of the Zentradi Battle Pod in this design.  I also see the AT-PT (below) as well.

I agree, I just hope the vehicle meets standards with its limited articulation.

I know Hasbro is trying to save on tooling costs and what not, but devolving action figures and vehicles back to Kenner days doesn't seem smart to me.

I am just a bit irritated the legs don't articulate, but after the lousy joints in the legs for the larger sized AT-ST perhaps that is ok.

It might be time to head to Target...

I wasn't liking their price hikes, but it looks like their Exclusive AT-DP with AT-DP Pilot (http://www.target.com/p/star-wars-at-dp-vehicle-and-driver-figure/-/A-16505227#prodSlot=medium_1_8) now has been place online. It is still showing out of stock online, but I am assuming the find in a store option will start registering real soon. Thanks to our friends at JTA for the notice.

The DPCI is 087-06-1382 if you're trying to locate it in stores.

BTW, I checked my closest stores and it is saying out of stock. If anyone wants to give the ole Tamer an assist on a minty boxed version of this I would be most appreciative!

I guess im pretty new to this whole community, but i dont understand why so many people care about articulation. I think all of the new vehicles from rebels are amazing.

First off welcome. And in some instances if it means more stability and there isn't a need for multiple poses I can deal with it.

However, that being said, for me it is more about the de-evolution of our figures and vehicles. We have good existing molds and tooling for decently articulated figures and vehicles while we now see prices for 5 point figures that we used to super arty figs for.

And only one store now carries a true 3 and 3/4 super articulated figure. Of course I am only scratching the surface and others will for sure chime in. And as always here, to each their own. If you enjoy whats out there great.
