Title: 2014 Joint Customizing Challenge
Post by: Tamer on February 19, 2014, 02:38:39 AM
Imperialshipyards.net and Yakface.com have joined forces again to bring customizers another  joint customizing event...

STAR WARS REBELS!

The rules are simple - create a custom figure, vehicle, playset, etc., that's inspired by the upcoming STAR WARS REBELS animated series and post your work in our forums.  Your custom just needs to be a NEW creation, and doesn't need to be in animated styling, or of an official character - this is to be  your own creation!  If you create one custom or several, you are entered into this contest one time... unless you post your custom at both sites - which means you then will be counted as having two entries, doubling your chance to win!  See below for the official threads:

Official Yakface Thread - CLICK HERE (http://www.yakfaceforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7538&start=0)

Official Imperialshipyards Thread - CLICK HERE (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=9000.msg169919#msg169919)

Customs can be submitted from now until Wednesday, April 30.

One (1) random winner will be chosen from the entries - and the winner will be completely random.  The winner will receive the following Kmart Exclusive Scanning Crew sets, with free shipping:

There will be two (2) sets total resulting in the above pictured four (4) figures, packaged in their sealed boxes.

As always, admin are not eligible for prizes, but are certainly welcome to join in the fun and create a custom for this too.

Thank you everyone for making both of our sites among the most enjoyable Star Wars fan communities out there, and good luck!

Well that sounds good too, but what I meant by joint is we will be pairing up with the fine folks at Yakface.com for a shared customizing event.

Look for the details this weekend folks.

Ah ... now ... my Yakfinities #51 "Pirates" entry is slated to be set during the "SW: Rebels" timeframe.  Can I enter my Yakfinities crew in both contests?

I'm not really sure how fair that would be for other people - especially in the off chance that you were to be drawn as a random winner of both... just my thinking here.

I'm not eligible obviously, but I made the following for this in advance as Tamer and I were planning this - wanted some sort of "reference" custom to help kick this off.

Imperial Infiltrator

head - SAGA Legends
rest - TVC Captain Fordo

I might use him in my photonovel series too as it takes place around the time of Rebels but for all intents and purposes I would have not made this guy if we didn't have this customizing event.

I absolutely understand that, which is why I wanted to ask.  I might split the group up into a "Yakfinities set" and a "JCC set" - in fiction, they are all part of the same crew, but for contest purposes 3 figs would be entered in the Yakfinities competition and 4 different ones in the JCC.  Different figs in different competitions.

Sure, just understand the contest rules of " If you create one custom or several, you are entered into this contest one time... unless you post your custom at both sites - which means you then will be counted as having two entries"

I think this is gonna be great fun. I have an idea I may try to throw together myself even though I can't enter!

And just to be clear, if someone wants to just post here or a Yakface, they can - but they are only entered in one time for the drawing.  Post your creation(s) at both sites, and you are entered twice - doubling your chance at winning.

I have several more figures in the works, by the way... of course not eligible, but I really think this is a fun theme.  I hope we see a lot of entries start pouring in over the next few weeks.   :)

My first entry.

Kanan Jarrus was a Human male Jedi Padawan who survived Order 66. Going into hiding, he forsook the Jedi ways for some time, swapping his blue-bladedlightsaber for a blaster. Enjoy.

So I gave this guy a little bit of the works. Some drilling of sockets, cut & shaping,  molding,  paint, and, wash. And fully articulated. I had to grow some balls the enter this, so I really hope you guys like it. Good luck to everyone entering.  Being im a big hater of modern 5 poa, I cant wait to see what everyone comes up with. :-)

Here's my entry for the Rebels customizing contest. I have no idea what type of characters we'll see, but it looks like we'll get grittier characters, fewer Force users, etc. So, I've decided to create a mechanic. He's a Cerean mechanic, slightly elderly, used to work for a Separatist engineering unit until the war ended. He now just picks up odd jobs where he can.

(http://farm4.staticflickr.com/3681/13206308425_5ea7df2937_z.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/42971447@N05/13206308425/)

I've always liked the Cerean race. There's something that looks inherently wise in their faces. I decided to make this guy look like he didn't have a set uniform, something resembling mechanics overalls. I also gave him a do-rag to clean up all the grease he deals with.

Great idea for a REBELS Character Darth Crassus! I like the looks of him. I am gonna use him for a front page reminder about the contest today!

I do agree about the lack of force users. Seeing some of the main characters already donning lightsabers bothers me a bit. I mean, wouldn't they be trying to lay low? I am also having a hard time thinking Vader wouldn't have personally gone after any Force User found. For now I am thinking the Inquisitor is kinda like a scout and when he finds one he calls in Vader.

I agree. I'm a big Force Unleashed fan, but I think in that game they did a good job making it appear the Jedi were in hiding or on the run. I hope Rebels handles the situation well - I guess we'll see.

I decided to remake a character that I'd love to see in the Rebels cartoon - Mother Talzin, aka The Great Mother, from Season 6 of the Clone Wars.  I used the head from a previous Talzin custom, that was an Episode 7 concept.  This custom sports an all new design, based mostly off the CW series, but with a few alterations to make it my own.  I wanted to capture the power and elegance of this pivotal character.  I even made a custom dark magick saber for her:

darth sidious, that is one fantastic looking Talzin. I too am hoping perhaps we might see a little bit of our favorite TCW Characters show up on REBELS. I don't think it is out of the realm of possibilities for her to show up. She seems pretty timeless to me. I would also love to see the questions of Captain Rex and Ahsoka answered with this series too. Off to share this to the front page.

Imperial Engineer - My fan-fiction take on some sort of Imperial for the upcoming series

head - POTF2 Spacetrooper
belt/holsters - TVC Captain Fordo
rest - TVC Kmart AT-ST Driver

He almost looks like a no-paint kit bash.  But the whole body and head were repainted.  I guess the body could use a bit of a wash...

Looks great CHEWIE. I had a similar idear to go after the AT-DP Driver in this fashion if I can figure out how to cobble together the Veers helmet with the Driver or Stormy Faceplate. That Spacetrooper buckets might just fit the bill better.

Those look great - much better than what Hasbro has on the way...

Just uploaded my entry to Yakface - time to show them off here as well...

Here's my entry. It's a bounty hunter, Malarc Synter, who is currently working for the Empire and his trusted protocol droid, HD-M1 (who was named by my daughter after we ran to the store to buy an hdmi cable...). Malarc was a highly efficient sniper in a small outer rim militia until he was seriously injured in an explosion, leaving him scarred over 90% of his body.

This is a submission by Elias.  We're not sure if Yoda will ever get to make an appearance on Rebels, but if he does, he would probably most likely resemble his appearance in the final season of the Clone Wars.

I don't see how to edit the post.

Ervin was made from E3 Bail Organa. His hat is a repainted Lt. Jundland hat. I painted the piping on his hat by hand. His machine pistol is a modified G.I. Joe Cobra Viper gun. I made it to look like a futuristic German MP40 submachine gun. I hand made his dagger. His pistol is Bail Organa's with a new paint.

My last figures made for this... and while I'm not eligible for a prize, this theme was too fun for me to not try and make as many customs as I could.

Terrorist Droids - Rebels era, figure they are used by a criminal organization

Those are some seriously intimidating-looking droids! The paint apps on these guys is beyond great! They don't even look the scale they are; they look more like they're both full-sized!

I-Am-Boba-Fett, can you share the recipe for the droid?

Thanks!

Sure thing!  The body is a McQuarrie Concept R2-D2 and the head is a magnetically attached cast head of a vintage Fx-7.

Here's another entry if I got him in in time. I could not log into the site tonight for some reason. Finally got in.
Anyhoo, this is a custom IMPERIAL 2-1B SURGEON DROID. I figured at some point somebody in the Empire was gonna get injured and need some mending, that's where this droid comes in handy ;)
This droid features an interchangeable magnetically attached hand and surgical blade.
PLUS this droid lights up internally with a red LED light.
MORE PICS OF THIS DROID CAN BE SEEN IN MY THREAD HERE:
