Title: New Tatooine Dio - W.I.P
Post by: Wardog on January 23, 2014, 11:58:47 PM
I have decided to do another dio this time a smaller scale...a much smaller scale  ;D

It has a long way to go yet and is still in the preliminary stages so far.  The building will have an interior and I'm thinking of doing it in an Anchorhead style or possibly Watto's junk shop....I haven't really decided yet.  It'll have an entry/exit doorway added and domes as well.  The last Tatooine dio I did was Mos Maa'eli and that was LARGE so this one, due to space restrictions, is much much smaller.

Looks great. Another Tatooine dio. We sure did enjoy your last one.

Off to share.

Thanks Tamer.   ;D

Yes this one may be a slower WIP than the others.  The board it's on will have to be covered to remove the grooves (which isn't an issue, just annoying) which also means i'll have to cover the entire base in plaster bandage and texture paste and mark out the space for the building etc etc etc.....a lot of work ahead of me.

Thanks man....I'm back on night shifts at work so progress will be slow on this for a while.  PLUS I went shopping yesterday for supplies and came home empty handed which aggravated the hell out of me  >:(....retailers seem to have a hard time restocking almost a month after Christmas....spastics.

Cheers Tamer, I hope so hahahaha.

I'm going to be VERY selective about what figures go into this dio.  I don't want to use the usual Cantina patrons or anyone like that.  This is more of an Anchorhead type of place...a type of power station set up so I may have to do some custom humans for it perhaps since Hasbro aren't good at doing "street" people are they?...typical.

if  I could give you some advice......

I would sprinkle on the "dirt" then once you get solid coverage spray "dirt" with a 50/50 mix of water and white glue until the "dirt" is soaked and then let dry, or use Woodland Scenics Cement to stick the "dirt" down, it's a liquid already pre-mixed and ready for the spray bottle, if you rely on just the white glue smeared on the wood base you wont get a good, full, solid coverage...

If you had something else in mind tho, then forget what I just typed...

:)

Thanks for the advice man...that's what I was going to do hahahahahaha  ;D.  I'm an old model railroader from waaaaaaay back and used woodland scenic stuff all the time.  I've always used that 50/50 mix with landscape dioramas.  Works a treat.  It ways off yet once I get a second coat of the texture paste down and it dries and i'll see if I need a third then once that it all done i'll woodland scenic the base then start on covering the building in plaster bandage then texture paste then paint it then glue it down to the base and carefully fill in the gaps so it blends seamlessly into the base.

A little update on the building:  The hole this grid thing sits in will be more defined and neat when the building is covered in plaster bandage.

Just marvelous!  I'm guessing this building will be the recipient of those "random machinery" greeblies you made in your other thread?

I love this more than anything I've seen in a while. Tatooine is my favorite planet, and your building is coming along brilliantly. I can't wait to see more, Luke!
