Announcing the Ultimate Action Figure Build Off! That is right, our upcoming contest is sure to challenge everyone to go all in. Pick your favorite character from any verse and make the ultimate version of them. Take a look at Sideshow or Hot Toys figures with multiple hands, alternate head sculpts, lots of accessories and so on. We also want to see a small base or mini diorama made to compliment the figure. 3 3/4 inch figures only to maintain a level playing field. This must be an all new creation so no figures that have been seen before on the web even in WIP stage. The contest starts June 20, 2013 and ends July 20, 2013.You are allowed to enter 6 photos in this contest thread. We will create a voting thread when the event ends and you will have to choose 1 photo to upload to the voting thread with your name and the name of the figure, nothing else. So have fun and your imagination is your only limitation!

I've been having an idea in my mind for quite a long time. ;)

I've got a couple of OT SW characters in mind but might go the Joe route because of diorama fodder I have. Hmmmm decisions, decisions.....

I have an idea I might like to try on this myself. I am so loopy right now though I do not need to be messing with power tools.

Oooh! This would be a great time to try and make an ultimate Tey How. If I made her command chair (that she can actually sit in), would that count as the base/diorama?

Also, when you say figures that haven't been seen before, do you also mean characters that have already been made (ie Nute Gunray), or just customs that have been made or are in the works? Because if I can't do Tey How, I'd like to try and make Nute Gunray with a proper mechno chair.

Kweh,

It just means that it has to be a new item of work never been shown anywhere before. I can be a character you have done before as long as it is a new creation.

Anybody make any progress yet? I have my figure done and now I'm working on the accessories. I still have to decide on what to do for the display base.

I've got the package done and all the accessories together and now I'm just waiting for some body parts to arrive, I will be starting the base in the next few hours.

I'm going to take a guess and say if it's part of a diorama and the figure you are making uses said vehicles I can't see an issue but I'm only guessing.

The vehicle I have been working on is kind of big. Hopefully we can get an official ruling here. My Ultimate Action Figure needs an Ultimate Ride. I'm looking forward to seeing what you are working on. I must say I'm a little intimidated.

I don't think Spry was thinking huge dioramas, but I wouldn't see why a vehicle wouldn't be ok.

The "ultimate" Indiana Jones figure is indeed that!  WOW!  Double-sided WOW!  That may be the closest thing to perfect I've ever seen.  As a huge fan of Indy, this takes the cake for all-time awesomeness!

Sorry for the delay everyone. My work schedule has left me with no free time at all this summer. On the vehicle question, I am going to have to say NO. The idea is that you are creating a Sideshow type figure and those never come with a vehicle. It would add too much to your display and could be seen as an unfair advantage. All we eed is a figure and a display base. Have a look at what Ron just did. He has hit the nail on the head for what we are looking for.

Ron, That is one breathtaking entry! Not to mention I want it! Love the Joe articulation added to the legs and the box is just stunning. The 2 sided display base is a stroke of genius! I am blown away.

Nice work on Tunnel Rat Tom! Another great entry! Your display base works well with the figure as well.

I can sight two examples of Sideshow Figures that come with vehicles.

1:4 Scale Speeder Bike and Scout Trooper figure
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=4489&sku=7164

S.T.A.P. and Battle Droid Sixth Scale Figure Set
http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=4489&sku=100045&ref=learnmore_100045

There are other sixth scale vehicles/mounts, but those don't come with a figure. I'm not gonna argue about what rules you want to make. It's your contest. However, saying that they "never" come with vehicles, just is not true.

Anyhow... The entries so far look great.

@ Hemble. See, that's what I meant about being intimidated. Your dioramas set a very high standard. It's tough to compete with. That's why I was hoping to pull out the all the stops on the accessories aspect of the contest. Regardless, your entry is Beautiful.

Sorry my friend, I guess I was wrong, please forgive me. We just simply are not looking for a vehicle submission to be a pert of this event.

Mate I'm very flattered that you think my work is that good but honestly there is no need to be intiminated and as I mentioned in the PM I shy away from GI-Joe figures so I have to hand it to you and the other guys that do them.

My Ultimate Action Figure is Arc Trooper Commander. Here is my Ultimate version of the character:
I use a GIJoe body for the articulation as well as the proportion. Arc trooper commender accessories, handmade Kama, lots of other goodies too and a handmade dio base.

WOW! Amazing entries guys! This is just what I wanted to see everyone pulling out all the tricks of the trade. Really great looking ARC Trooper Chad! Really love all the gear and the base you created. William, that is a great collectors piece. Really nice presentation and tons of extras with that set. Rex Smoke, a dewback would be much like a vehicle, witch we are not allowing to be presented for this event. We simply need to see your figure with a base. Have a look at what everyone else has submitted as they are exactly what we asked for in the contest rules.

Title: Ultimate Mandalorian Pin-up Girl
Post by: The Willoughbian on July 18, 2013, 01:09:50 PM
Here is my entry. The Ultimate Mandalorian Pin-up Girl!

"Why?" you may ask.  bbfet Because, in my Star Wars universe all the ladies are sexy and don't mind showing some leg. And the rules clearly state that the character can be from any universe and mine is as good as any.

(http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj565/TheWilloughbian/Star%20Wars/UltimateMandalorianPin-upGirl_zps43c078ca.jpg) (http://s1268.photobucket.com/user/TheWilloughbian/media/Star%20Wars/UltimateMandalorianPin-upGirl_zps43c078ca.jpg.html)

The Ultimate Mandalorian Pin-up Girl is, of course, also a Jedi.
(http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj565/TheWilloughbian/Star%20Wars/UMPGLightsaber_zps810ac38d.jpg) (http://s1268.photobucket.com/user/TheWilloughbian/media/Star%20Wars/UMPGLightsaber_zps810ac38d.jpg.html)

Unfortunately all of the Ultimate Mandalorian Pin-up Girl's ultimate vehicles were impounded by the fascistic Imperial Shipyards. But fear not! She still has her trusty Mitrinomon Z-6 Jetpack!
(http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj565/TheWilloughbian/Star%20Wars/UMPGBack_zps257a6271.jpg) (http://s1268.photobucket.com/user/TheWilloughbian/media/Star%20Wars/UMPGBack_zps257a6271.jpg.html)

Ultimate features include Articulated Directional Thrusters and Rangefinder!
(http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj565/TheWilloughbian/Star%20Wars/UtimateArticulation_zps15822f2b.jpg) (http://s1268.photobucket.com/user/TheWilloughbian/media/Star%20Wars/UtimateArticulation_zps15822f2b.jpg.html)

Ultimate Accessories include: Her loyal Techno Service Droid , a jetpack, a backpack, a cloak and two heads!
Ultimate Weapons include: A lightsaber, a Westar 35 carbine blaster, a custom projectile carbine rifle, and a Bes'bev!
To read more about the Bes'bev follow this link. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Bes%27bev

Time to get another one of these featured on the front page. Then, I am off to bed. I am beat. You ever chase a seven year old through a crowded water park pool area all day?

^ Love that... and the background too... I think I even like that more than the custom.  They compliment each other perfectly.

So Here is my entry, Embo from the Clone Wars series.
Unfortunately there are not really any additional accessories from the original clone wars figure but the figure does have full articulation including ball jointed hips. PLus Embo is huge standing waaaaaaaaaay taller than the vc CW Anakin.
Embo has a bunch of sculpting involved and this being my first finished piece in which I used Aves sculpt I don't think it's terrible. Altogether he has sculpted legs, feet, torso, arms, and collar. The rest was taken from the Clone Wars figure (Best Hasbro CW figure in my opinion)
Finally is the gun, the gun was a kitbash using the very tip of the gun from some G.I.Joe gun, the bow parts from the cw embo gun, the barrel of the gun from a potf commtech stormtrooper and the base from a scuba rifle (the small one in which came from weapon lockers)

I will be posting embo with his diorama(just some painted up Hasbro bases, sorry got lazy), lin the actual contest entry thread in just a few minutes, let me know your oppinion of him and criticism is welcomed  ;D

These are all SO FREAKING AWESOME!  I had hoped to enter, but wasn't able to upload pics in time.  Oh, well.  It is what it is.  Here is a sampler, the rest of the pics can be seen in my figure thread.

I understand that this will not be considered for the contest.

Considering that there are only six or seven entries, I don't see why a late entry shouldn't be allowed. It's not like the polls are open yet.  Just post a pick in the voting thread, man. Also  can we get one of the mods to add CloneSnipers entry pic? He did post one in this thread, but just hasn't added it to the voting thread. It would be nice to have a couple more entries make things as interesting as possible.

Willoughbian I couldn't agree more. I haven't locked this down yet and I am doing so now. I also got an email request from Rex01 as he needed help posting the picture. So, I will allow DO's and CS78's entry for the voting thread in the interest of fairness and for a more enjoyable vote as those customs were created for this contest.

Going forward folks, and I hate to a hard case about this, but we are going to do our future voting contests just the same way we did this one. I could understand if we were not up front with the fact that you needed to post said entry into our voting thread once we created it, or if we had not created said thread in a timely manner, but from here on out it will be your sole responsibility (not a mods, not an admins) to read the contest parameters and get your entry posted correctly. If you need help figuring out what exactly you need to do all you need do is contact a forum moderator and every one of them will be glad to show you what to do to get your entry posted correctly (much like Rex01 did with me via email).

Ok, enough about the logistics, this was another great contest with some great entries so as soon as I get those three entries posted get ready for the voting thread to be unlocked!

Thanks for all the amazing entries guys! If everyone who has entered agrees, I have no problem letting Michael, Darth Optimus, enter for this event a day late. I was going to close this thread today but will leave it open for feedback.
