Title: The Hasbro Figures that Never Were Customizing Contest
Post by: Luke Sprywalker on April 14, 2013, 04:59:53 PM
(http://i683.photobucket.com/albums/vv191/hangarbay94/ISY%20Stuff/CloneWarsban1_zps083b2f87.png)

Hello Shipyarders! Today we bring you a new and very timely customizing event. Starting April 15th and running through Midnight May 19 we invite you to continue the Clone Wars Action Figure line by creating The Hasbro Figures that Never Were. This must be a new figure made for this event. Also if you have shown a work in progress figure anywhere on the web it is ineligible. It must be a character that was seen in the Clone Wars series on Cartoon Network. Your figure must be 3 3/4 inch scale and can be created in animated or realistic/Saga style. Make as many figures as you want but they will all be grouped under your name and we will vote for the winning artist rather than by a single figure. You must be a member here at the Shipyards to enter. We are asking for no more than 5 pictures per figure when you submit your entry. To maintain a level playing field, no photoshop manipulations please. You are allowed to set up a vehicle or other parts as background scenery. When voting we should only judge the figure/figures submitted. You can post WIP pics in this thread as well as completed pics. Then before the deadline is up you need to email 1 photo of your submission to tamer@imperialshipyards.net. If you make multiple figures it would be a group photo.  That keeps the interest in this thread up and makes it easier to make that voting thread. So get going, there are TONS of figures that should have been brought to life in plastic form and it is our duty to let these figures see the light of day!

Want to know what you are competing for? A most excellent prize pack from our own CloneHead! At the end of the contest we will make a voting thread and registered site members will vote for there favorite artist. There will be one lucky winner that will be mailed the following perts pack.

What a great theme for a contest, Spry!
I will first announce that I will foot the shipping bill of the parts pack to the winner via first class mail anywhere in the world. I will ship it and send a simple tracking number to the winner and from then on its on you. Postal delivery services are fairly reliable worldwide but there are still hiccups sometimes.

I would also post this question to Mr Spry about the rules. Am I allowed to post a pic of my entry figure with a vehicle? I know the vehicle won't be judged as part of the contest but want to take that pic if I make the figure I  thinking of.

Yes you can Clint! Any vehicle or diorama will be considered the background scenery.

What a great tribute to David Filoni and crew and our small way of saying thank you for The Clone Wars and perhaps keep TCW out there as folks are trying to save it across the world wide web.

Also I would like to personally thank Clint for the great parts pack he donated for the prize, Jules for creating the wonderful graphics for this, and L.E. as always for organizing yet another great contest.

OK guys, to get everyone in the mood, I am going to start the show this WIP of Gregor. I am not eligible for the prize as this was posted here earlier. This is just for fun and to get in on the action. I started him months ago and other projects/commissions got in the way of finishing him. This is where I am at as of right now.

This is my first time posting pics on IS and boy am I excited! I visited this site frequently and was inspired to customize by Wraithnine and Lucasclones' awesome works! I was also "inspired" to customize by Hasbro's lack of quality figures at the end of TCW line. I really enjoyed the removable helmets which allowed you to see the character's face and was really ticked that they didn't make a Phase II removable helmet for some awesome characters! Hence, all but one of my customs are still waiting(probably in vain) for Phase II helmets!

Yes, benjani, feel free to post WIP pics in this thread as well as completed pics. Then before the deadline is up you need to email 1 photo of your submission for the vote to tamer@imperialshipyards.net. If you make multiple figures it would be a group photo. That keeps the interest in this thread up and makes it easier to make that voting thread.

I have modified the rules to reflect our decision on WIP pics and email info for your final entry. Everyone should reread the contest rules.

Thanks guys,I guess I'm glad to be back in the saddle and i suppose on a bit of a roll. Feedback on my work had been great and a big boost.
Plus the kids are back to school and not messing about with my stuff when I'm not looking ;D

Not much done today, but I did pop into forbidden planet in Bristol today and got a mint vc102 Ahsoka tano for £9.99.........and a copy of stark hyperspace war,and Honor and duty for £5 the pair reduced from £23. I'm going back tomorrow for Jeremoch Colton for £8.99....mib
Bo katan head used to be CW tano, with sculpting for hair and band. Vizsla mk2 jetpack. Some paint mods......still plenty to do.

What a great idea for a contest! I'd love to be able to make one of the Neimoidians from TCW (maybe Sib Canay? I have an extra Daultay Dofine lying around).

good job on the mods. that head turned out great!
Really am chuffed to bits with the end product, much better than the Shira Brie head I was going to use.
Trying to keep the figures as close to Filoni's animated cast as possible, with the deliberate exception to Vizslas armour.....being the ex-leader of deathwatch,I want him to be of a stockier build.
Just got another donor figure from the post depot I missed signing for yesterday, number 5 now a wip and coming together well....watch this space ;)

Picked up a bedroom suite yesterday i need to put together and sort out today, bounty hunter Ventress will have to be on hold until later......from reference material, there's gonna be plenty of sculpting going into this one,not much in the fodder bins suitable for the style of outfit.
Running low on CW fodder so maybe I'll do a little dio during the week for their final photoshoot.
Got 1 more figure in the pipeline if the donor arrives in time,it should do and a looks good to make Duchess Satine.
That'll be 6 and a small dio........reconnection to the force established ;D

Like LE, I am a judge and not able to win this one, like I want to win my own parts prize anyways. I will jump on the bandwagon by showing a WIP shot of a helmet I am working on for a realistic tvc Umbra arc Phase 2 501st arf trooper. I still have plenty of touch ups to do on the white and black, the blue 501st markings, and the cannon brown to the cheek parts of the helmet. My plan is to slap this onto some version of a removable helmet 501st trooper and match the blue on the helmet to the blue on the clone. I may paint up an rots atrt to pose him with.

I believe a good clone for this helmet will be the rots tactical ops trooper.....Vaders legion. Removable helmet, super articulated and a touch of mud on his boots

I decided to use the latest TVC 501st trooper as I know he has ball jointed hips that will work better for riding the atrt. The stripe got painted about 3 times to try to match the clone's blue markings and this is the closest i have gotten yet although it could go a bit darker. I read your note about the nose, Jay. I didnt think it had any blue on the nose. I should have saved those episodes so I could check. Other than that, do I look ok here?

rules state it cant have been posted anywhere before the it is posted in the contest thread. at leas that is how i interpret them. I noticed you had posted a massif handler in your own thread and wondered why you didnt enter it in the contest.

I thought they were brown like the rots atrt driver. Grey would look so much prettier.

With some help from jay and a little more research of my own, I upgraded the phase 2 arf helmet markings to be more accurate. Turns out there was part of a stripe on the nose and even a bit above the visor below the helmet brim. I still cant get a good example shot of the cheek color though. I could have sworn it was brown.

thanks again, Jay, for your help with this one. If you members didnt know, Jay is the one to ask when you have any questions about the Clone Wars series, especially the clones, I would, think.

Benjani:  That is not only the top figure on my list of what I wish Hasbro's should've done, but it is also one of the best-looking custom CW figs out there. I've always loved the Ventress character and this is by far the best outfit for her.  Awesome, awesome work!

Clonecrazy nice light saber effects on that AF Pic and good idea to just show a broad array of characters.

ty, buddy. i figure he fits the bill. Had Hasbro made one of those, I may even have pulled the trigger on an internet purchase of one since I know I wouldn't have seen one in a brick and mortar store.
This would have been an easy one for them to produce with the only part to tool being a new helmet.

I did, Jay, I had mentioned it in an earlier post. Thanks again. I still cant tell about the cheek color from your shots and one that I found. That darned red light in the gunship isnt helping one bit and the other ones are too foggy to tell. Seems I remember the brown but cant find proof.

I've seen that gunship pic too,it doesn't help much but to me it looks grey in that one.it's the same with most pics I've come across.did see another one with Rex and Krell and the cheeks look brown......quite frustrating
I've seen 501st ARF Lego figures with brown cheeks, one was a definite custom. Seen a 1:18 custom CW bodied clone with grey cheeks........I think both look fine.

Maybe a darker grey? Might try going through Umbara episodes and try getting some screenshots tweaked using photoshop enhancement filters

Hello my dear amigos how are you been? I hope well, ^^ here´s my entry for the contest, I made three figures humbly would like to present:

*Duchess Satine Kryze
personally I think that is character that definitely deserves at least a figure from hasbro

*Republic Commando Gregor
The only character salvageable from the awful story arc of the astrodroids in this last season

All great entries, good examples of bad hasbro choices. Mandalorian warriors, pre vizsla, mandalorian police released but no leader of mandalore Satine. Crazy people

Just come across a spare admiral yularen, minor surgery to the rank insignia......head swap and a jango headset, and it becomes a republic naval clone officer.

Not expecting anything to come of this, by any means, but it got me up and working on another custom! 8D

For my entry, I've done Sib Canay - a Trade Federation official from one of the most Neimoidian-packed episodes in the entire series, 3x04 Sphere of Influence. I was flipping out during that entire episode! I had a spare Daultay Dofine that I was going to make into a Gilramos Libkath, but until I find a way to meld him with Lott Dod (and overcome my reluctance to mutilate a figure of my favourite Neimoidian and Star Wars character), it won't be happening. So, Sib Canay!

I can't say I ever expected Hasbro to make him, but I'm still somewhat surprised we never got, at least, Mar Tuuk. He was a total badass!

Iam not sure if i want to add a jetpack to him cause he has it in only one scene in the whole series. ^^
Unfortunately i have no idea what to pick as a holster so i leave him how he is.

Ground down 1 Aurra sing boot, onto the right side now. Boot, tails sleeves then back to the features until its right.

This thread is hitting up,wollfe looks great, the ones, satine (very surprised hasbro didn't produce the leader of mandalore...tut tut),ARF 501st.

Great entries guys and gals! This gallery really illustrates how badly Hasbro missed the boat, but even more notable it has shown that we as a collecting community will not let the Clone Wars fade into obscurity even Disney wants it to. We will continue to celebrate the unique contributions made by the show and enjoy this meaningful piece of SW lore  ()rr

Nice kelken. I could do a day's worth of front page entries just from the wonderful entries here.

Folks, please do not forget that this thread is just to post your pictures. To officially enter you need to email me one picture of your creation.  That would be to tamer@imperialshipyards.net!

Nearly finished sculpting satines arms, then the pic is on its way......checking out the new pics, some great pieces to put hasbro to shame, they missed the boat on so many figures.

Sack their design team and hire shipyarders is all what I have to say about their efforts.

Stunning entries everyone! Just look at how bad Hasbro is BLOWING IT!

I find their lack of faith disturbing vadsab

She worked out really well.......the helmet fits snug when down, the chin slots in and the back curves around the head to hold it.......and holds well when raised.
GiJoe articulation,was a nice build.
I can't pick a favourite single figure from them........Bo Katans head sculpt, the helmet and body armour. The Bantha skull on her lieutenants chest. Wolffe's bucket, pouches and rebreather, head swaps. Satines sculpting. Vizslas bucket, blue grey camo effect, his short back n sides trim, chest decal. Mauls legs and tattoo's. kenobi's armour and bucket. Ventress's helmet, her tunic, thigh boots, sculpting. The clones rank insignia.

Thinking about it,it's between wolffe and Bo Katan for me.

Got Darth Streams update on the front page. That is one very cool image set.

Folks please don't forget to email me your one picture to officially enter this contest. So far I only have two entry pics and there are way more image submissions than that here. Just email tamer@imperialshipyards.net one picture that I can use for the voting thread once we set that up.

Hey thanks guys these were pretty fun to make, had to take a couple trips to the fabric store for them. I always feel so weird going in there. A six foot eight man walking around picking up fabric and getting it cut around all the old biddies. I get a lot of stares like what is he doing with that, and when people ask, it's always so hard to explain, lol.  O0 Good luck everyone!!! Can't wait to see what rolls in as the contest ends.

As I said on fb, this Mortis Trillogy group is just amazing! I never thought anyone would make these as the characters require so much sculpting and work in general. Very nice work and amazing presentation! Very well done my friend.

Folks, once again to clarify per some questions I have recieved:

Posting in this thread is not a submission for the contest. In order to be entered into the contest I need you to take your favorite picture and email it to me at tamer@imperialshipyards.net and then I will send you a follow up email that I recieved it. Please also include your forum handle here so I get it labeled correctly. As of right now the only entries I have are from Mandalore 1992 and Benjani 1976. No one else has emailed me their favorite pic.

Perhaps what I will do is start the voting thread early and lock it so folks can see if I have recieved their entry.

Here is the thread to ensure that your submission has been received. So far I have Mandalore 1992, Benjani 1976,  Clone Commander Jay, and now Darth Streams. I will add to it and unlock it for voting and comments once we are ready.

Once again please send your favorite picture of your submission to:

That being said, feel free to pm me your image too till I see what is going on. Sorry folks. Jay I did get your message via Clint and going to add it now.

Do we have to chose with which figure we want to enter the contest or is it allowed to enter with more than one figure?
And if it is allowed, should we send you 2 pictures oder the 2 combined into one?

Here's an update to the second figure i've been working on:

Ok folks after conversing with some great contest moderators we have decided to extend the contest deadline to this Sunday, May 19th  at midnight for your contest submissions.

I have received numerous requests and or picture posting issues and I do not want that to be a reason for an entry not to get posted. So, everyone can breath a small sigh and get back to finishing up your entry posts. For all those who have entered, thank you for your patience.

OK, so here's my Bo-katan...definitely my favorite CW character that will never see the light of day.

Sweet!  The helmet came out beautifully.  Katan is also on the top of my To Do list.
1.  Bo Kataan.
2.  Bounty Hunter Ventress.
3.  Lats Razzi.
4.  C21 Highsinger.
5.  Slave Ahsoka.

I actually started a Nightsister and Dengar for the 5th Anniversary contest, but lost steam.  One figure in one month is hard enough.  Four is way beyond my time constraints.  My daughter is still after me for those night sisters.  I really want to finish Latts Razzi too.

Folks I know I am starting to sound like a broken record here, but posting a picture in here does not mean you are entered. You need to pm or email me one picture of your choice (make it a group picture if you have more than one figure) and then make sure you see it show up in the voting thread. I am trying to stay on top of this daily so you should know no later than the end of the day if your figure is entered. I see a lot of great customs in here that haven't yet sent me an image to use for the official entry.

Hey Shawn, my group pic/official entry should be coming shortly.  Sorry about the delay, my daughter decided to hide the USB cable for my camera and I just found it this morning.  Gotta love kids.

See if any hobby stores in your area sell Plastruct products.  They make 2.4 mm diameter clear, fluorescent tinted plastic rods which make great custom lightsabers.  Just give the rod a really fine sanding, and they catch the light and seem to glow.  Catalogue # FARG-3H for yellow green.  They come in blue, red and yellow.  Sorry, I dont have a link.
