Hello everyone. I've been customizing star wars figures for about a year now, and I heard about this blog through another forum. I've been posting on rebelscum and my blogspot for a bit now, thought I'd try over here. I do mostly Star Wars EU figures because I am big into reading the comics and playing the video games. Can we both vote to hopefully someday get him to share his secrets on all this. I think between him and Wookie Balls they could outpace Hasbro on the cardback quality. Hasbro take notes!

It took me a while to get the cardback down to a science. In my mind only 2 have come out really good so far. I have a couple image templates broken up into layers in photoshop (you could also use other free alternatives photoscape or pixlr). If I need a certain image to break into layers I will scan it with my scanner. Most of the time you can find these already made on the internet. I print the images set at high quality on glossy photo paper (must remember to set type of paper or else your printing may smudge). After I have my image printed I use spray adhesive to get the image to stick to a comic book divider, then smooth out any bubbling if it occurs. Then I usually will cut off the excess with my paper trimmer, I used to use scissors but it's so much easier with a paper trimmer. Then I have a tool that rounds the edges and another that adds the hole punch. All of my carded customs are mounted with a base that a bubble attaches to so I can take the figure out whenever I want. I get these from http://www.protechproductsinc.com/starwars.htm, if you do not care about being able to pop off the bubble you can just glue on any old bubble from other figures. That's it.
Here's a tutorial I wrote up with pictures back in November. My process has changed a little just because I invested in the paper trimmer, hole punch, and corner rounder.

I thought people would get a better idea of how to make the cardbacks if I broke it down in a series of tutorial videos. I made two today showing you how I made my naga sadow custom card back from start to finish. Each section is about 12-14 minutes long. The first part deals with image creation, the layers, printing, etc in an image editor. Then the physical mounting part.

Man I love the originality on some of these. What was the base figure that you used for Sidious in the "Vader and Sidious, modern day, the apt pupil" pic? On top of the usual Star Wars customs I'm also doing a side project of figures of the cast from the Jurassic Park movies for my son and that body would be outstanding for the Lawyer and Mr Arnold (Samuel L Jackson's character) from the first movie.

On top of the usual Star Wars customs I'm also doing a side project of figures of the cast from the Jurassic Park movies for my son and that body would be outstanding for the Lawyer and Mr Arnold (Samuel L Jackson's character) from the first movie.
You know what I had no idea because it was in a fodder lot I picked up. Turns out it's a Parker Selfridge avatar figure.

The shot of the "Big Three" (han, Luke, Leia) from EpVII is awesome. I love the older version of Han: great choice on the Bom Vimdin legs and the twist you gave the holster is a great touch that sells a new look for the character without sacrificing his classic look.

He's real easy to make, all you need is a 'Giant Ram Smash Volstaag' thor figure, I picked it up for 4 bucks at 5 below. Then you need a mandalore head, I've picked them up for like 4 or 5 bucks from ebay loose in the past, they seem to be a little bit more expensive now. Might be able to get the head for cheap. The some paint and cloth, if you want that cape then you'd need the mu thor figure as well.

Nope actually, it's a Purgatori. I was looking for wings for my winged rancor custom for a while and I stumbled across this 12 inch doll at a local comic shop for 25 bucks. The wings it came with pivoted with three points of articulation so I was happy. I also noticed it'd be an easy talon custom, due to the soft good already on her. So far this talon has some paint, a reshapened head, and a sculpted band. The rest is from the purgatori figure. I told my fiance that it'd probably be better to fix the skirt cloth and replace the bra part. The rest looks pretty good.

Sure, I'm game. I will try to make a template in the next couple of days using freeware image editing programs like photoscape or pixlr so that those who don't have access to photoshop can follow along with the directions. I had made a series of 2 videos a while back but since then my process has changed slightly. I switched from using glossy photo paper and spray adhesive to using glossy photo sticker paper, because that was the most annoying and messy step. I also have a better tool for rounding corners now. I siwtched from using glue to hold on the bottom part of the bubble to using double sided invisible tape. Anyway I can explain that and all later.

This some great stuff, That T3-M4 is rad! Storm Trooper George and The Charred Corpse of Owen Lars are both pretty hilarious. Del Moomo looks nice too.

lts really a work of art, it looks like the guy made it completely out of balsa wood. I picked em up for dirt cheap on eBay, ill look into my history I see if I can find the seller. I know he had his whole kotor set up for sale, I picked up about half of them.

Del Moomo turned out well! The figure parts you chose work perfectly for this character. (I miss getting new KOTOR story lines from Dark Horse...)
The card backs continue to look phenomenal. Where do you choose/get the images you use for them?

@JediMerc - Searching for them on google and modifying them 90 percent of the time, changing things like brightness/contrast/hue, faces(merging multiple pictures), aspect ratios (cloning other parts of the image to fit dimensions) stuff like that
Here's an update
So since my hand's split open I've just been doing cards and some kitbashing.
Also I got into casting.
Here's what I came up with:
First mold I made for a mon calamri head in a solo cup. I used the extra resin in my han solo silicone mold I had bought for ice cubes.

I realized the solo cup I was using was too big, and was wasting rubber mold so I went down a size, and went crazy. This was done at like 3am in the morning.

On the very last head I cast(I did three sets of resin casts) I cut my hand removing excess with an exacto knife, 5 stitches.

So this is something a little different for me. My father is a huge old school arcade enthusiast, his basement is full of working pinball machines and various other sorts of arcade games. He buys broken ones and fixes them and has a fully built mame table/cabinet. Anyways he decided to make an arcade game from scratch, and it's going to be like lunar lander. So he gave me these figurines to paint to be used in the arcade game. Currently this is a wip pic, of the figurines in various stages.

Lol you are like the third or fourth person to say halo flood vader. Tell hasbro, it came with their zombie gi joe viper. But I can see it going with a mutated zombie of sorts.

Nice, I absolutely love that Holiday Special Six Inch Boba Fett. Seeing him on a custom vintage cardback like that makes me realize how Hasbro is missing the ball with the boxes they are putting the six inchers in. Off to share.

Great work on that realistic Kanan figure. If the new Star Wars Rebels figures looked more real like yours then I would be interested in them unlike the cruddy new 5 p.o.a figures that hasbro decided to release. Yours rocks! 0/

Here's a figure I'm working on for the yakfinities pegwarmer entries. I used a 5 dollar thor line hogun as the base and made the armor from malgus and starkiller armor.

Exar looks great. The use of the Thor body was really clever and your execution in converting him is really excellent. I prefer your version to the comic pack version that Hasbro did.
