Title: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: Clonehead on July 14, 2009, 07:59:42 PM
And now, for a new contest.

At stake, to one winner will go the following:
1 single figure sized desert dio made by me." the same one that I made for my desert RC figure"
$50 US sent to the winners paypal account.

Worth winning? Here's what you have to do:
Each entry must contain pictures of the following:

1 custom speeder "can be a speeder bike, barc speeder, land speeder, some kind of vehicle that floats but is not interplanetary. Can be a single seater or a dual seater."

1 custom speeder pilot/rider "can be more than one if your bike can carry more than one rider"

the 1 custom speeder and rider cannot be anything that you have posted pics of before unless they are altered since their original pics were posted. "no photoshopped pics, please" These customs must be made by the contestant.

You can post as many times in this thread as you want but you may only submit ONE ENTRY post. As many pics as you care to put into your ONE ENTRY post is cool. When the contest is over, The shipyards staff will vote their winner out of all of the contestants and their entries. This contest will last for two months and entrys must be submitted no later than midnight central US time on the 13th of September 2009.
Keep in mind that if you post your ENTRY and show the other contestants your pics early, you might give them some ideas....................................

Imperial Shipyards staff are not eligable and can not win, although I wouldn't mind trying to make a bike and rider, myself.

Sound cool?

man I'm all over this thread... you so stole the ky meet's them custom though! of course the meet never happened so I guess that's fair!  Alright man... now to go buy some fodder for this contest... to the e-bay! (cue bat-man music)....

Brendan wants to know if T-16 Skyhoppers (POTF, figure-sized) count for the contest.
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: spudafett on July 14, 2009, 09:14:20 PM
hmm if we are talking non-interplanetary ATMOSPHERIC vessels only then I would assume that the t-16 is valid.  So would be the snow speeder and other atmospheric speeders would work, like the aotc speeders which anikin and obi-wan used and zam wessles speeder...
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: Clonehead on July 15, 2009, 03:02:42 AM
Yes, all of the above would count as a speeder as would one of spud's scratchbuilt or transformer barc speeders. We actually came up with this contest idea prior to the posting of that barc or of your ky build off, spud but i haven't gotten around to starting it till now. It was like you had read our minds or something.
Yep, we are leaving things pretty wide open as far as the speeder goes.
Good luck!

Front page story up Clint. Yes we had this idea sometime back that came about as some ramblings in our chat room.  It just takes us awhile to get our ducks in a row! See what visits to our chat room cook up!

Sten - ain't it great!

I guess now B will be after me to find and acquire a T-16...  *sigh*

That just reminds me, I have a few packaged EU swoops if anyone wants to buy one. One is momc and the other is daggone close, but for the sake of the Shipyards I could part with em.

man I just got a sweet deal on a bunch of speeders and swoops on e-bay today that I believe I'm going to be using in this contest... or I might have to scratch build one...  idk yet.

I "precustomed" a bit for that, so I could just BS with Seg and spuda, so I have a decent start, already.

I'm behind on my challenge figs, I need to do the driver and fantasy challenge on ST6, and well, now I'm gonna have to do this as well.

Any chance you could make a snow themed dio piece instead of desert??   vadsab

perhaps for a future contest, Simon, this one is already underway.  We have two months until the   conclusion of this thing. I could always up the ante on my end, if I wish.

man I've got the itch to do this one bad... I've started on my rider but I don't have a freaking head to put on him!  anyone have any 25th joe fodder they want to part with?  especially heads?
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: narceron on July 16, 2009, 06:36:53 PM
which head?
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: DocOutlands on July 16, 2009, 09:50:01 PM
I've a few 25th Joes I am steadily getting molded.  Which heads are you interested in?

I've got...

Rock-N-Roll
Roadblock
Airborne
Scarlett (HALO jumper)
BAT
Maj. Bludd
Zartan

Might be a couple more out in the shop, hiding w/ Scarlett...
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: spudafett on July 16, 2009, 09:55:12 PM
the scarlett head I'd be interested in for other projects doc.  The head I'm needing most for this project though is a major bludd.  with or without his helmet, that doesn't matter.    I'm using the neck and chest of a major bludd for this rider fig and the smaller heads just look awkward on his big ol muscular neck.  if you would like pm me and we can work out a buisness arangement if you do cast any of those...  just make sure you do it before the end of the contest,  I'd hate for you to screw me out of winning the booty.  ;D lol

Post by: narceron on July 17, 2009, 05:35:07 PM
If you want a big head, try breaker.

I have an extra I'll trade ya for one of your extras, :)

I really need a new head , I'm trying to make a few new greenshirts(there is no paint on my customs, lol).
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: DocOutlands on July 17, 2009, 06:29:20 PM
Mwahahahahahaha!!!!   ;D

I'll set Bludd up in the next molding run for ya.  His helmet comes off???
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: spudafett on July 18, 2009, 07:27:28 AM
with a little bit of yanking the helmet will give.  I used a major bludd head for my super articulated boushh figure.  It leaves a rather unsightly hole in the back of his head that I had to fill in with apoxi, but it works.  If you can I'd like it without the helmet and i don't care if the hole is still there or not.

narc the only heads I have left are 2 flint heads, the one with the berrett (I think it's flint, i'm not sure)

Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: DocOutlands on July 18, 2009, 08:31:57 AM
Yeah - Flint has the beret.

Wow - Bludd's (really stupid-looking) helmet comes off!  eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeexcellent..........  Now I gotta relocate that pile of Joes he is hiding in - AND figure out where Scarlett has gotten off to.  I've got two sets of heads set up and ready to have mold goo poured up - was waiting until I find Bludd and Scarlett for ya.
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: spudafett on July 25, 2009, 05:40:22 PM
doc if you can still get me those heads that'd be cool... I think I found one that will work... still looks a little odd though.  I'd realy rather have that maj. bludd for this.  Man I need to start doing some e-bay customs or my customizing funds are going to be broke.... lol

man I'm still waiting for my speeder bike lot I ordered :( I would have thought it'd be in by now...

What is our time frame Clint? How much time do they have left to submit pics?
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: Clonehead on July 26, 2009, 05:46:11 AM
Pics must be submitted by midnight us central time on the 13th of September for all entrys. That gives you just over a month and a half left, folks. On that note, I am raising the ante of the prize package by adding this resin cast two piece mini gun that I cleaned up, assembled, and painted, this morning.
Now the prize is, my little desert dio, my mini gun, and the $50 in paypal money that Shawn generously donated.

This has shaped up to be our biggest contest to date. If you guys wouldn't mind, please sound off that you are planning to participate at this time. That way, we can plan for how big the presentation of the winner announcement will be.
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: DocOutlands on July 26, 2009, 07:42:15 AM
Oh, *I* am in!  I made *really* good progress on two of my four figures for Jules last night, so I'm considering taking the parts of the primed speeder out to the paint-rack today and giving it a coat of color.  I've still got to figure out exactly what I'm wanting to do on the other body style...  (I know - only one entry per person, but I'm gonna build two and then decide which one to enter!)

Brendan isn't sure - the one idea he had isn't working out right.  I'm encouraging him to back off that fixation and look at alternates.

Cool deal Clint. Man, this contest just upgrades everytime I look at it.

Doc, I hope Brendan gets online and into this contest. It is good to have a customs master to guide him.
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: spudafett on July 26, 2009, 02:20:56 PM
So.... I had a speeder sitting there primed and ready to paint and my wife swiped it and took over!  Now, this wasn't the speeder I was going to use for this contest anyway as my big lot of speeders hasn't come in yet but still!  lol I told her about this contest and now she wants to join the forum and submit it, lol...

I'll grab a pic of her working on it so that you don't think I'm cheating, that is if she'll let me... lol last time I tried to get a picture of her customizing I got yelled at!

I still havn't decided on what to do for this yet. My lot of speeders should be here by monday but now I'm thinking about doing a from scratch speeder to ensure that it's something all original...
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: Clonehead on July 26, 2009, 02:25:25 PM
sounds cool, Spud. I was wondering if you might whip out one of your scratchbuilt speeders for this contest. Have your wife register to be a member and join the competition. The more the merrrier! Remember to tell her that if she is worried about somebody copying her idea that she might want to hold off on the in production pics but I am itching to see some of your all's work.

I'm leaving that up to you guys. Of you are worried about inspiring the competition with your wip pics, don't post em yet. Of you arnt worried about it, well then by all means, let us see! I have been chomping at the bit wanting to see what you guys have been working on for this contest.

I like to see the contests have the unveiling at the end this way no-other builders are influenced or are swayed or in the worst case, drop out if they don't think they are up to the same levels as others.

Just my opinion

CAMO???  KOOL!!!  Love the droid-socket too - what are the parts you used to make that?

Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: spudafett on August 01, 2009, 05:48:50 AM
lol yall made my wife happy, that camo bike's the one she was working on.  Mine is in the foreground.  btw that'd have been a great idea to have made an astromech partner.... but that's not what I wound up with.  I did think about making a side car to one and puting a droid in it though.

also my wife picked up a rise of cobra baroness for her rider today.... she decided she wanted to do a different bike than the camo one.  She started the camo one to show up my camo fighter tank! lol

The Baroness as a biker chick??  Whoaaaaaaaaa....  I'm madly in love with your wife's Muse!!  So, naturally, *my* Muse is screaming "Twi'ilek Biker Chick!!"  Tell your wife her Muse needs a spanking for me, eh?   ;D

Well, I'm in trouble on this one, folks.  I keep finding vehicle parts that look like they'd make really neat swoops and speeders.  I'm afraid I'm going to have to make them all and then pick which one gets entered.  Yeah, I've fallen into the "swoop gang" trap!   O0  I had three solid ideas and a vague fourth and fifth... until just now.  The fourth kinda...solidified.  I mean... a seat strapped to EIGHT ENGINES?!?

so when are you guys going to start posting pics?  only a little over a week left before the 13th...   I've got my speeder ready for the reveal, just a few touch ups and accessories to add to my rider and he'll be finished too...

should we send all the entries into clint's private box and let him post them all on the deadline or are we posting them here at random times?  just wondering.....

Spud, the 13th of September is the deadline, boss. You all have another 5 weeks to go.

I have a box? Try sending me a shot and see if it works.

::) :P ::) DOH....  there I go trying to think again... dates and times get me all flustered and confused....  I'll try sending a photo to your pm box and see if that won't work.  I think what we could do would be send them all in to your box and then you can post everyone's stuff in one fail swoop.   OR... we could just do what we said we would and post them up here ourselves all willy-nilly.

I personally don't care if you guys see my stuff before the deadline...  I just don't want anyone dropping out from over exposure to pure awesomeness!  ;D

That's the spirit, Spud! I like that whole intimedation factor thing you got going.
I'm just glad that I'm not making an entry as the competition is sounding tough.
I can't believe that I gotta wait a whole 5 more weeks to see everyone's entries.
I ran this one for two months so that everyone would have plenty of time to get something together.

Ok, here is a little tease... I'm taking my time since I have 5 weeks and I have an entirely different speeder body in the mail from the bay I'm waiting on... so I can pick my favorite of the two I'll be working on.

Here is the first speeder though, teased, unpainted, and she still needs a lot of detail grebble work. Also is one of the parts that will be attached today..

Enjoy

Post by: spudafett on August 06, 2009, 01:59:54 PM
sten hunter, that's going to make a great speeder!

hey guys... we should all devote one of our speeders to make a "shipyards gang" where they all have matching color schemes.  I've done all my bikes in a black with red accent scheme, but it could be different of course.  more imperial maybe?  black and grey? or white and dark grey?  IDK just an idea I had as something that we could all combine together and make a fleet of bikes that looked like they could be in the same big group.

heres another very unrevealing wip shot for you guys to drool over... or scratch your heads about from me:

Interesting head scratcher thats for sure.

Awesome idea about having speeders in the same colors. You guys could get together and have an Imperial Shipyards major dio set.  Wouldn't that be awesome for something like Cfive or SDCC or NYCC.

hey for a convention we could mail the bikes to someone who is going for those of us who can't be there, have all the bikes set up in the dio with a card and signature for each one from each unique builder and stuff.  They wouldn't even have to realy match if you wanted to make like a racing scene or something like that!

guys check out the few speeders i posted up in my thread and tell me what you think.  noone has commented on them yet :(

that'd be a great thing for a dio! light weight and easilly portable and comes with it's own top!  lol  just don't spray paint it... I learned that the hard way when I was a kid doing one of those cell diagrams with a styrofoam ball.  Which reminds me I have to do one of those tonight with my oldest......  ::)

I gotta take a BAD part to the Post Office today for a trip to a new home *and* return a video to the library, so I'm thinking a side-trek to WalMart is in order.  2-3 foam ice chests, maybe some spackling compound...  $10 or so and poof!

Oh, and I have to get *her* a ShipYards account, as *she* has a speeder to enter.  *sigh*   ^-^

Some modifications to some of my older customs. The painted speeder is that 4 color auto paint. The color changes, depending on the angle.

Honestly, Clint, I have no idea what brand of paint I used. I painted this nearly a decade ago, and 'tinted' the windshield today.
Originally, I stopped by a buddy's paint shop, he set everything up for me, and I painted it with automobile paint.
The colors change from purple to green to blue to a sorta burnt orange.

very cool.  You need to get that hammer head some bling to ride around in that with!  I've always loved that color change paint.  The tinted windshield is a nice touch.

The only thing I don't like about it is the peg hole in the fin at the back still being so noticable.  This was the ep.1 flash speeder right?

awesome paint job.  How did you tint the windshield?

Thanks. Yeah, that Ithorian sure could use some bling bling.
I also never cared for the empty peg hole on the fin, but could never figure out what to do with it.
You're right, regarding the Ep. 1 speeder. Regarding the tinting process, I can't reveal all of my secrets.
Just kidding. I simply spray painted the inside part of the windshield with black spray paint.
Thanks for your interest and kind words.

So this is not my official entry, but is one of the 2 speeders I was creating for the contest with the intention of entering the best of the two.
I've made my choice on which one I think is the best, and so I've decided to post this one =) my runner up.  =)
I can't wait to reveal my real entry!!!! bwahahahaha (evil laugh)
Many may remember this speeder from page 5 when I purchased it off eBay about 2 weeks ago.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I call this the 900 GT Series Elite Speeder.

I wanted to create the "Evo" of the Speeder world, kind of a race rocket for some snob punk to own.

There are still some small details I want to do, but mostly this is finished. I was thinking a "punk rich kid" would be the owner, though I'll have to think about that fig for a while.

Here are some more images of it: http://picasaweb.google.com/mypronmedia/EvoSpeeder# (http://picasaweb.google.com/mypronmedia/EvoSpeeder#)

Enjoy, and please all you other yarder's out there keep up the great work and entries!! I can't wait until September 13th!!

I LIKE IT!  what did you use for the engine?

man...  we need to do more of these contests.

btw, is the amount of people comming out for this challenge affected by the prize winnings or if the contest had no winnings and was just for the title would everyone still be doing it?  I know I would still be doing this even if there was no prize, I like a good challenge

Well this the first
Contest where we asked for the contestants to build something and the response has been great. This is also the biggest contest prize that we ever offered.
Who knows. I am having a ball with it though.

Like your speeder, Sten.
At first I thought that this was your entry.

I painted the engine area black and then went over it with a silver/steel dry brush and some bronze/gold highlighting. I used styrine to cover up some of the larger holes and some apoxy sculpt to smooth out some of the lines and smaller holes. Overall it was a blast to paint but still needs some touch up. I was originally going to use flake/speckle car paint, but ended up going with this high gloss cherry red I found.

I think the contest is a great motivator at picking theme/subject matter, which I always have trouble with. =)  ;D

Great unofficial entry, StenHunter. If this is your runner up, then I'm sure your real entry will be amazing.

I, personally, didn't  join the contest for anything but to have fun. If by some fluke or miracle I won, I would donate my winnings back to the site.
I may not be able to join all of the contests, but I would like to.
This is a great site with many cool members, and I' m just content with being able to contribute.

I like the sentiment we are seeing here.

That being said, I am really liking the exposed engine on Sten's speeder. I just looks tough.

I am just thinking how awesome it would be to get these all together for a group shot with Spud's biker garage or outside a Cantina!

Or even in a pod-racing arena! That would be killer, shawn!
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: spudafett on August 17, 2009, 03:52:00 PM
man a Racing arena dio would be AESOME!  it could be a pod racer/ swoop/ speeder race track! it could be a one size fit's all race track.

Hey, do you guys ever go to any conventions and stuff and get the site advertised?!  that'd be an awesome way to advertise the shipyards, someone put together a large racetrack dio that could be set up on a table and then everyone make a custom speeder/pod racer/ swoop to go on the dio and have it displayed with member's names who contributed to the dio,

I'd be willing to set up the dio if I could... people not able to attend could always mail their pieces in to someone who goes and sets it all up at the conventions... hell it could be a traveling piece too, make the dio where it can break down into small parts and make it easy to transport!

That is an awsome idea, Devon. Perhaps one of these days we could do something like that.
If of was an arena, there would have to be some stands for a bunch of figures to watch the race.

Well, I'm being pressured to attend AdventureCon next year with a buddy from the 405th (HALO costuming) and I know the Mando Mercs turn out big there, as well.  AND it is up in the same neck o' da woods as several other members...  So I'm kinda already figuring on being there if work situation permits.  So, I think that would be GREAT to have a race dio set up as advertising!!

As for the contest, heck, I participate whenever a competition theme catches my fancy, prize or no.

alright, thank you. also, I like the way my rider is, and I already modified him in my thread, without knowing of this contest, is it alright if I use the updated version as the "modified" rider, I know in the rules it says you can use any customs from before, and if I can't use him, it's fine, I'll just repaint another figure.
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest

well guys there's been a few posts of people's entries so I figure I'll go on and post mine.  I want this to be inspiration for those of you not yet finished!  I wanna see some speeders guys!

Spudafett's Planetary Vehicle and Rider contest entry:

For this contest I wanted to make a bike from scratch or close to scratch.  I also wanted my figure to be a Gi-joe based figure customized to fit into the star wars universe.  In the course of this project I started with my rider first.

For my rider I used a gi-joe 25th aniversary para viper for the base figure.

I started with a lower leg and foot swap as the original's lower legs had been sculpted to clip on flippers...
I added several details, including a clone trooper's shoulder pauldron which was trimmed down. I added little greeblie bits with some red wireing and a removable cape.  The cape has a new feature I tried out and will be using from now on.  It's an old boba fett cape and has a copper wire strung through it so that it can be posed in a "flapping" position.
I wanted this figure to realy be equipped for swoop bike racing.  I realy liked the look of the shoulder and knee pads of the para viper and thought the pauldron added to that.  BUT what about high atmospheric flights?  I took a removable clone helmet and trimmed it down so that only the lower half remained and fitted a range finder to the side.  A repaint later and I have a respirator that looks realy good on my rider.  I also figured he'd need a back up oxygen supply so I trimmed down a Assassin Droid's backpack and made a canister which fits into the figures back peg hole.
As this will be the leader of my biker gang I wanted to decide on a color scheme that the whole gang would use.  Red and Black was decided upon.  Several details were brought out with red and silver detailing.

ok enough explaining here are some pics of just the rider:
Some of these pics were taken early on and the flash brought out a few spots of missed paint, which were fixed about half way through my photo session.  The final figure doesn't have any purple showing through and is completely painted.   :( I guess I should have retaken the pictures...

ok, you've already got a few glimpses of his custom swoop.  let me explain a little bit about it first and then you can see some pics.

Go back to the top and look again at the wip photo of the figure.  See that engine laying in front of him?  I took that from a 1:18 scale die-caste model car.  I believe it was a maisito (sp?) model.  Anyway, I used it as a starting base and started from there fitting parts together.  I wanted his swoop to slightly resemble an "S-swoop" but look like it'd been stripped down to almost nothing but a motor, a seat, and steering vanes.  In essence this is a super light, super fast, racing swoop.

I also wanted to have a couple weopons encorporated into the speeder and have a set of saddle bags or pouches on it.  The weopons include one blaster cannon on the speeder, a swoord (vibroblade?) for the rider to use, as well as a holster for a blaster pistol.

You guys remember the wip teaser pics I put up eirlier?
That astromech's head... well it didn't get to be an astromech any more.  Try to find it in the finished speeder:

I hope you guys enjoyed that.  I know I realy enjoyed building and creating both the figure and the swoop especially.  It's probably the first from scratch vehicle that I've made that actually turned out looking realy good (in my critical eye).  Now I know I used existing components and didn't make it completely from scratch like the mando chick's bike I did before with just sheet styrene... cubanpete, those spikes on the front of your speeder are AWESOME.  For the longest time I've wanted to do a speeder with blades or something coming off the sides of the front... I NEVER thought to put them sticking strait forward.  You need to customize a scrap rebel or sep. fig with a hole through it's chest that you can slide onto those things!  The working pistol holster is a great touch too! I made sure to put one on mine as well.

on a side note... I havn't had a vanilla coke in FOREVER.... hm.......

Spud, I have a new found respect for your bike and rider especially after reading all of the stuff that you did to em. I didnt even recognize that cut down pauldron until you pointed it out. That speeder is a great bit of innovation and I would have never seen that r4 head for what it was until you pointed it out. I really like how you integrated that car motor. Love that rider, bud. Nice job, indeed.

Cuban pete, I love those blades and the color combo looks great on your speeder. That Holster is a must and somehow reminds me of something that you would see in The Road Warrior movies.  Welcome to the customs gang, buddy.

aww cubanpete...  fire burns... :(  But... I'll take that as a compliment. lol

That pic of the clone on the spikes is too perfect!  Absolutely perfect!  "ouchies"...  ;D

Btw I love that evo trooper backpack... hated to see my evo-trooper turned lava trooper go.

oh I forgot to ask, does the hoth speeder patrol bikes have the exploding feature?  I remember someone saying they were retooled so that they didn't do that.  It's a shame they are still using the old mold and not the updated one with the rubbery handlebars with more detail.

I don't know, and I hate the handlebars, I wish they would update that

I had 2 evo troopers, so I don't mind much.

Spud, holy crap! That swoop is awesome! I love how it's supposed to be an S-swoop stripped down to "almost nothing but a motor, a seat, and steering vanes." Isn't that about all those swoops are supposed to have anyways?  :D   Seriously though, I love it! S-swoops are my favorite speeder bike vehicle, and you have done them much justice, good sir. Two thumbs up!

Just great custom additions for this contest. I love how spudafett modified that droid and integrated it into his bike. The rider is sweet too. Lots of work there.

Pete, that black and red speeder just looks sweet. I love that color combination. The blades on the front with blood? Priceless.

Its gonna be a hard vote!
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: spudafett on August 22, 2009, 04:13:25 PM
hey, pete.  Figured out which speeder it was that has the rubber handlebars that are more accurate.  It came in a "delux clone with speeder bike" package.  Here is a reference pic from rebelscum:

they don't explode and alot of the greeblie details have been redone with soft rubber molds.  The handlebars, the hoses underneath and the motor's "air intake" is all redone with the soft rubber.  It looks a whole lot better than those old potf ones.  But i'm sure they are also going to be hard to find now, e-bay would be the place to look.
Title: Re: Imperial Shipyards Custom Build-Off contest
Post by: Cubanpete24 on August 22, 2009, 04:57:51 PM
yeah, that one looks way better.

also the one I have doesn't explode. all it is, is a repaint of the vintage speederbikes. minus the vintage.

lol I just noticed we both have the same red-black color scheme for out speederbikes.

clint you should cast the new handlebars that are on that thing too.  They can be modded to go on the old potf bikes.  Might be a good seller on e-bay, I know I'd get them if I still had uncustomized potf bikes.... heck I'd probably still buy a couple for extra handlebars for use on future from scratch speeders.

quick question.

I'm going to update my speederbike to look more "renegade clone trooper" I already posted my entry, but the deadline is about 2 weeks ahead, if I post my updated speederbike, can it just replace my other entry? the reason I'm asking is because I kinda feeling like I'm cheating if I update my speederbike

This thread has kinda gone awry, but that's cool. I think it would nice if we could tweak, at least, our pics (which is what I need to do to stand a chance with such heavy competition). Incredible contributions thus far, guys.
Please, there's no need to eat any of my body parts, as I need each and every one, but I would like to see that it would be ok to mod your entry up to the deadline.

That's just my opinion.

Wow, I am gone for a day and a half and where did this thread go? Remember folks this is for posts about the contest.  If you would like to chat, we do have the room for that or use the Imperial Blog thread, but please keep it clean we do have children present. Any further off topic posts will be deleted. There is nothing wrong with trading ideas about the contest, but keep it on contest.

That being said, I think it is fine to mod up your vehicles and alter your pics until the last possible moment. It is great to see the ideas being swapped here.

like I suggested tamer, It might be a good idea once everyone has submitted their entry in this thread for the mods to compile everyone's final entry into one thread... perhaps listing them in order of the winnings? so that it is easy to view all entries together and at the same time be able to see how everyone placed against each other.

Probably not a bad idea to get them all together in one thread so we can judge em and only post the contest entry with pics perhaps. I will talk about it with the other admins and mods and we will get back to you, but not a bad idea Spud.

FINALLY!!!

my upgrade to my speederbike is now complete!!! sorry it took long, school, homework, and mistakes.

improvments include

-second coat of paint

-holstered sniper rifle

-handlebars positioning changed to look more like a speederbike

-a holster for Number 7's Standared weapon on the backseat

-speaking of backseat, a backseat on the back of the speederbike.

I wanted the speederbike to look like one that would belong to a drifter,, so Number 7 can now camp or stake out wherever he wants!

I'm getting excited to see everyones work that hasn't shown yet!! I am putting the finishing touches on both my rider and my speeder bike. I'm stuck on what type of emblem to put on it, or what type of markings.. it's the only thing missing at this point... That and a little strapping to hold down the some storage.

I also have to pick out a nice backpack for my rider to hold all his goodies.. Should be done in the next couple of days... I've taken some test video, but I'm not willing to share that yet =)

Here's to a wonderful contest!

btw: for those interested, my Elite GT Speeder is up on eBay! =) It was a great byproduct of this contest, but really I need the money!!  O0

this is actually devin, posting this for my wife dawn.  She is busy with work this week and hasn't had a chance to get the pics taken and get this on here yet.  She told me to get them up here for her and if she has time she'll take more pics and edit whatever I put up.  I'm going to try and remember all the stuff she told me to put up here about the bike and figure.

the figure is made from the new rise of cobra baroness fig.  Dawn says that the rider is a psychic with telechenetic powers (hence the weird eyes).  Basically that's the only info Dawn ever sat down and worked out for the figure's backstory that I can recall...  I'll see if I cant get her to flesh it out a little more for you.

the bike is a conglomeration of scrap imperial speeder bike parts, pvc plumbing pieces, and various other greeblies Dawn scrounged up from the parts piles and other junk laying on the customs table!  She went with the concept that bigger is always better with this one determined to make hers bigger and badder than my stripped down swoop bike custom.  as you can see from the comparison shots, it's a WHOLE lot bigger.

One thing I'd like to point out to everyone is the amount of detail Dawn worked into the engines of this thing.  The wrapped wire and other greeblies work incredibly well together.  I'm still amazed at her ingenuity and part use.  These parts literally were junk I had laying on the table that was ready to be thrown away!

I know that even if she doesn't win in this contest she is realy proud of her work and is convinced that hers is better than mine! I know that I am still uber impressed with the work she put in on this one and am still amazed at it.

Did you modify the head sculpt at all on the Baroness figure?

B.R.:  Yeah she sliced a little bit off the sides of her chin to give her a little bit more of a pointy face and cut down on the old saggy hag look of the original.  She also chopped up the hair a little bit to give it some more texture.  I had completely forgot that she'd done that.  I wish I still had a stock version of the head to get a comparison pic for ya...

Wow, awesome speeder bike! I especially like the spikey things around the back engine area and the handlebars! The part holding the handlebars up looks like it could use a little beefing up, but other than that, everything is perfect! I really like the color scheme too, especially the color on the nose part (upside-down speeder bike, brilliant!), before the front fins. Great work!

I wondered because the head sculpt actually looked good.  No need for a comparison shot, I've seen plenty of UGLY Baroness figures on the pegs.  I kept hoping I might find one that looked better.  Heck though, after seeing what you've done I might just take one of those uglies and do the same.  Just use a dremel tool to reshape that face?

Post by: spudafett on September 11, 2009, 11:18:48 AM
actually she did it with a fresh exacto knife believe it or not...  She's scared of the dremel. lol.  All she did was take it just below the ears and slice diagonally downwards towards the chin cutting through just to the side of the chin and mouth.  Basically she tried to just remove those flabby sagging cheeks.  at first it will look realy bad and very noticable but if you paint over it with fairly thick paint it will cover up the sharp edges a bit.

Sten Hunter:
DANG man... I clicked on the link and I've got to say guys, DON"T pass that link up! make sure you get a look at ALL the pics he took of this thing.  For the life of me I couldn't figure out what you used to make this speeder out of man!   I figured out that there was a potf speeder in there, and I thought that you might have used an old EU "rebel speeder" but couldn't place the other parts... I made the comment to myself that it also looked alot like a snowmobile...

then I finally got down to this part of your site:

Quote
The GAR Heavy Scout Speeder was created by combining a vintage GI Joe Artic Snowmobile and an old POtF Endor Speeder bike. The side armor with twin cannons was taken from a vintage Boba Fett Armored jet pack. I combined the best parts of all of them, and added lots of greebles to accomplish the final look.

haha!  GREAT use of that old POS potf boba backpack too!    I realy like the entire thing man.  The concept is great and the execution of said concept perfect.  I like the fact you compensated in your backstory for the figure not being a clone... my only question is if you planned from the beggining for the rider not to be a "clone" or if you had to make up that story to go along with what figure you had on hand (I find myself doing the latter all the time!).

ALRIGHT DOC....

now you hear me... quit steeling my ideas! lol, no man.. it's great.  I love it.  the bike came out alot better than my crappy version of the same thing.  OF course mine still transforms  :P.   of course my version doesn't have the awesome intake in the front or the great looking motor in the back...  I keep looking at mine and wondering how the heck it got anywhere as it looks like there is no propulsion!  Yours solves that issue flawlessly.
The paint apps and color scheme on the bike is great as well.  You should definately print up some decals with "sponsors" for it!  something like "kuait shipyards" and "MOS eisley Cantina"  would be hilarious slapped on the side of there.

as for the rider....  again, awesome.  I know it's basically just a head swap but the paint apps look great... as great as you could do with that super bright pink!  I'm thinking that maybe you should have made the girl's skin tone more pinkish to match her outfit and tone down the color of it a little bit...  it's very overwhelming.
And you said the skin tone is green?  from the pics it looks like a pasty off-white, but that might just be me and my monitor....   :P

ok..  sorry if you didn't like the constructive criticism guys, don't let it fool you.  I realy love all these entries!  Every one's entry has subtleties to each that make it exceptionally unique and awesome in their own right!   EVEN YOURS RIBIT! ;)

The green I used for her skin is called "Italian Sage" and is very pale.  It is a fair match for the lightest green used in a couple of camo patterns, which is why I bought it.  I just applied it straight over Hasbro's color with no priming, so  having that Twi'lek Blue underneath might not be helping much.  And I was definitely going for "eye-popping" when I decided to use the pink.   ;D  It was also selected "Fan's Choice" by a unanimous vote in a  fan-club poll.  Yeah, I superglued mine together, so no more transforming for it!    I wish I'd had some zap-a-gap or something, but I just worked with what I had.

Great stuff guys,

I love that use of the snowmobile, I recognized it at once, It lent it self perfectly to the design. Great job,

The Twilek is great, love the look and style, the speeder is cool.

I asked my oldest to look through the entries and he likes sten-hunter's the best.  I think he likes it most because it is so different... lol  he's already seen mine and dawns over and over again... AND doc's bike is similar to one i've already done... and ribit's is still very much like a regular speeder.  OF course that doesn't mean he didn't like the others too, there was alot of ooing and aweing coming from him on everyone's entry!

Good question, it was a little bit of both. Early on I had thought about doing the head swap, but got side tracked with building the speeder. After I started getting deeper into working the figure I realized that I liked the idea of keeping the original head on there. Perhaps in the end it was a bit of me not wanting to do the extra work... However, I think the back story makes more sense. At some point the GAR would have needed non clones in combat roles more and more towards the end of the war.

I had just finished reading one of the SW clone wars comics that had the battle of Kamino and thought that had the Republic lost an entire generation of clones than the war would have been over. Seeing that, the Emperor put plans in to start using normal humans in combat roles, slowing replacing the Clone army with non clones.

I could go on all day thought :P

I have made a thread where you can view all of the entries on one page,  here.  (http://www.imperialshipyards.net/SMF/index.php?topic=1079.0) At the top of this thread, I have placed a poll where all registered members may vote for one of the entries. The poll lasts for 7 days. Good luck to all of the contestants.

Yeah, the last time the admin voted on something, it came down to a tiebreaker and since there are only 5-6 of us and there were 6 entries, it was felt that it would be more fair for everyone to vote. Also, the decision was a toughie as there were some great entries.

That being said, get your votes in, folks...........it's up to you.

Pete, I meant to ask earlier - how did you make the seat on your bike?  I have a two-rider idea for a swoop and I wanted a seat-back like yours but was at a loss on how to pull it off.
