Title: Retaliation 3 Pack Cobra Invasion Team
Post by: Clonehead on January 31, 2013, 03:24:50 AM
Picked this up today and although I intend to give an official review for each figure, I have been swamped so for now, I will just post some teaser pics and possibly I can review one figure a day until we are caught up. If you are curious of my first impressions, I am impressed. Fully articulated accessory laden Cobras are back!

On the pegs or using the dcpi trick? Time to get to the fp with this. As least someone is finding some type of action figures.

DCPI  trick, like three times. I don't think these are to hit the shelves for a couple of weeks.

OK, sorry for the delay here.
This is the Firefly review for the figure from this pack.

Easily the most popular and exciting new figure from the Retaliation line this year is the 3 pack Firefly figure. First off, he is just stunning to look at and has every detail that a collector or custom builder could want. Paint apps are pretty simple with familiar two tone grey overall with some gentle camo stripes on his arms and a conservative cobra symbol emblazened on one. His two explosive packs have a decent amount of painted detail.
The Black cobra vest shown in these shots is actually for the invasion parachute trooper.
About the accessories:
Firefly comes with two Explosive dynamite looking packs, one of which will mount by a peg to his back on the harness.
one hand gun with a holster molded onto one of  his upper legs
two knives with one scabbard molded onto one of his lower legs
one compact machine rifle
one cool looking grenade launcher
a decent looking backpack
the removable grenade and ammo pouch laden Belt and bracers combo "I believe that bracers is slang from across the pond for suspenders" which alone is worth mention as it looks so cool. I have included a shot of the single carded firefly wearing this just to show me having some fun playing "explosives expert dress up."

time for articulation
ball jointed head, shoulders, elbows, upper waist, hips, and ankles. The wrists are the fan favorite double jointed wrists. And, yes, the knees are quite double jointed making this figure nice and arty.

What else can I say? He looks fantastic and is more than worthy for anyone's collection. Articulation and accessories make him a custom builders dream. I could have gone with the weapons being molded in a black traditional plastic and if the alternate vest would have fit a touch better, everything would have been perfect. As things are, he is sought after enough to currently fetch $30 on the evil bay right now.

That's another cool review of a very cool figure.
I think the black tac vest actually belongs to the Cobra Paratrooper.
Check it out, it will fit him when you take the parachute harness off.

oops, they just throw a bunch of accessories into the pack spaced out at random and there is no telling where they are supposed to go from any pics on the box. I guess i should have experimented a bit more.

My bad guys, I have revised the Firefly review to note that he does indeed have double jointed wrists and that the black vest is supposed to be for the Invasion Parachute Trooper "just called invasion trooper on the box" I have Hosted pics of that one and will review him later on today.

About time that I got to this guy.

Certainly the second fan favorite from this pack is the Cobra Invasion Trooper

Coming with a Working parachute, I figured this would be a straight repaint of the wave 1 cobra trooper but this one has a life all it's own

Articulation:
What can I say, folks? It just doesn't get much better than this with ball jointed head, shoulders, elbows, upper waist, hips, and ankles. The wrists are the fan favorite double jointed wrists. And, yes, the knees are quite double jointed making this figure nice and arty.

Paint apps are decent enough but what shines are the various accessories

First off, you got the working parachute complete with its own separate harness
1 machine rifle
1 machine pistol
1 pistol
1 removable helmet with separate Goggles and chemical gas mask. "the mask pops into place using two small peg holes inside the helmet"
1 radio walkie with mounting peg, the hole for which i haven't found yet
1 tactical vest with Cobra emblazoned going up the back with symbol on one shoulder

This one has it all, good articulation with decent sculpt and molded on detail, great multiple accessories, and a working parachute. Who could ask for more?
What a great army builder this one would be. Imagine hanging 4-10 of these with chutes open from the ceiling of your collection room.

Certainly not one of the included figures in this pack to scoff at.

Does the black vest have a hole in the lower left back?
If so, it's the place to peg in the walkie talkie.

Commander Kurgan is right, the radio should peg into the lower back of the vest. This guy appears to be a repaint of the Cobra Shock trooper from POC.

He would be a cool army builder figure for COBRA fans as part of their Crimson Guard or Iron Grenadiers.

The Dpci # is the actual item number in Target's system that they use to keep track of stock. It is also the item number that is on your receipt when you purchase an item there.
Most times, when they have an item in stock but it's not on the floor, you can tell an associate that you are looking for an item with this dcpi# and they will look it up and go in the back to get it for you. I say most times as you can come across a sales person who refuses to get it stating that they are not meant to be put out yet. That has happened to me more than once. Typically they don't care and will either meet you with the item or take it up to guest services to hold it for you for 24hrs.

the dpci# for these packs is 087-06-0317   this number covers these new packs as well as the ninja showdown packs from last year. in fact, as they look up the number in their system, it will come up as ninja showdown and that is what is wrote on the case of 4 3-packs as well. Keeping that in mind, you will have to tell them this when you ask them to produce it to make sure you are inquiring about the right 3 packs.

I really want this set for the Firefly, this looks like the best looking version of him since the comic pack one over five years ago but this time he has that classic look and the flaws with the arms appear fixed.  Thus he is high on my list of grabs.

Granted I don't want the RP Shock viper or another SS, but I may try to trade them off.

Cool reviews.

really great reviews...are there any street date restrictions on these? I want to visit my nearest target and check the dpci....but they've been pricks about going in the stock room and pull cases whenever I ask them.

sorry about that, you might mention that in the Target thread although I doubt that Target corporate has any lackies eyeing that thread.
The story I get is late this week or next week for these to hit the shelves which also goes for the single carded figures from waves 2-3

Can't wait to get my hands on those....
