Title: JetpackBlues Customs Intro
Post by: JetpackBlues on January 02, 2013, 06:51:10 PM
Just going to drop a few of my 2012 customs...well, all of my customs are 2012 customs because I've only started working on creating this past year. Sorry for the long post of pics

This is my take on a World War II era StormTrooper

Gonna have to see if I can get my hands on one. I've got one almost complete (albeit crude) and not quite accurate, but this looks like it may be a better base than what I'm using

Wow, way to put pressure on me to create good stuff by putting me on the front page. This is literally just a sample of the customs I attempted that were good enough to post. I create a lot of unpostable crap still bc I'm still trying to learn what the heck I'm doing. Ha

Ok, so I figured I'd post my WWII alt universe Tarkin since people liked the WWII Stormtrooper. I'm also gonna throw up to other figures that I was working on completing this evening. They still need to be armed and sealed but I figure I better post now bc the way I work I wont get back around to them for a while

Before I spend the rest of the weekend in a haze of take out food, movies and video games here's one final salvo of customs. I figured since there is a 40's Alt Stormie and Tarkin there should be a Vader. He's not done but he is in the works

Also anyone who may have seen me on IG knows I have a thing for StormTroopers and lately a thing for making them Shadow Troopers. While the concept of a black StormTrooper is awesome posting them up probably isnt worth it, BUT I will post my last two entries into my Shadow ranks

So, the other day I was watching Aliens (one of, if not my favorite movies) and realized I had no Xenomorphs the right scale to play with my Stormies. So I decided I would make one because I did not recall ever seeing a 1:18 scale xenomorph before. I jumped on google to find a reference image and came across Sith_fire's Alien sculpts. It was enough to make me decide not to embarrass myself. I normally do not get dissuaded when I see someones work who is better than mine, mainly bc most are, but the level of skill and accuracy of Sith_fire's sculpt was beyond anything I could ever hope to imagine. Especially considering I have absolutely no sculpting skill. I expressed this mind blown pass on an idea to LucasClones and he gave me a few words of wisdom. So, I spent the last 3 days making myself a xenomorph. He's still not done (missing a tail and claws, and paint) but I wanted to take a shot of him because I was actually kind of happy with what was made. Considering I dont sculpt (never sculpted before basically) and I ddint really use sculpting material I kind of like it.

Betting he wishes he didn't turn around. Slightly better look at the xenomorph I cobbled out rather scrubbily over the span of 3 days. I cant even call this sculpting because most of it was just laying pieces on top of each other and calling it a day. I am growing fond of him and think i may make more. But I don't think I can cast the head so I'll just have to make more manually. I think I may even just make more with the same material even though I have some Aves on order and a tub of MagicSculpt. Ha

Kinda late to the party here, but welcome to the Yards!  I'm really diggin' the work so far. I especially like the handmade Xenomorph. FYI, Kenner made some awesome Aliens WAY back in the 90s which are in scale nicely with 3.75" figs. I have a whole mess of them and the accompanying Predator line (which also fit in size wise). Keep up the good work!

We're those the bulky ones in the colorful packaging with kind of cartoon representation on them. I had one of two of those but I remember them being kind of ungainly. And I recall not liking the marines. Ha

Yo Jet! First off a belated welcome to the yards  - you won't find a better place on the net to get an audience that offers help, tips and suggestions with custom figures! Thanks for your comments about my work! I sill have much to learn...

Second - I get a thrill at taking on projects that, in my mind, have no idea where and how to start - I just jump right in and hope for the best. I think I learn and become better at what I do..even if the first attempt isn't what I'd pictured it would be. I get the same thrill when I see others do the same - not having much experience and taking on a Giger design is bold dude!...and a very awesome move! Your first attempt at an alien has been a success! I promise you the more you sculpt (and you will, it's like an addiction), you will learn just a bit more that your next version of the beast will blow this one away. Congrats on a cool figure Jet!

So, this is my first stab at Cad Bane. I wanted a slightly more "meaty" version instead of the anorexic version from the clone wars. I have a few different versions of him but all have legs that would make most super models jealous.

Snake Eyes. I have like 5 of them that I don't even remember buying. Ha. I'll probably use another to make a Brandon Lee Crow figure for my daughter

Anyone who may have seen my IG feed (before I wiped all the pics out of it) know that I have a love of ShadowTroopers and by this point in time have made about 20 of my 135 Storm/Sand Troopers into ShadowTroopers. All of the ones I have made before are clean and free of battle damage or weathering. I figured, since I don't have the hugest love of clones I would do a test for battle damage/weathering to one of my CloneTroopers. This guy isn't so much battle damaged as looking like he was fired to a planets surface and burned through the atmosphere. But it was a good test for eventual battle damaged ShadowTrooper.

Just A Test

In between periods of opening day for hockey I did some work on a slightly damaged Shadow Trooper. On the left is an early non damaged trooper. Not too shabby though I know I can do better

So, I had a a "DeadPool" figure from the Wolverine movie. The figure, quite frankly sucks IMO. So on InstaGram I asked what I should do with it. Someone suggested I turn him into Darh Sion, so thats what I did. He was a rush job, but WTF, it couldnt come out worse than what the figure already was. Ultimately he needs another layer or two of paint, but that will happen when it happens. I will say though, I want to make another one

This is what I had to work with

So, much like the DeadPool situation I had a Juggernaut figure, from Marvel, and decided I was going to slice him up to. Comic book figures just beg to be screwed with because I have to real use for them, so I decided to turn Juggernaut into Bane from Batman. Marvel to DC FTW!

So. a friend of mine from Instagram asked me a while ago to make him a Samurai/Samurai Vader. It took me a while to get started and when I did it took me longer still to find a figure that would work well as a base for both. Eventually I went with a vintage Anakin bc he essentially has the torso of Vader minus the respirator. I've been having a good time working on him, but then on Wednesday I got around to listening to the CAFN pocast  where they mentioned the new Budo figure from GI Joe. Now I am just to dejected to finish this guy because there is going to be an awesome Samurai base that everyone is going to work with coming down the line...what a let down

So, partially due to the support from my fellow ISY members and partially due to the fact that I hate to let a friend down I am putting more work in on Samurai Vader. Since it's really hard to see anything Vader like in the set up I posted earlier I am also putting an alternate head with him to try and get the point across. Here is where the progress is at now. I'd imagine he's about 75% done. Have to work out his waist and how his swords will attach still...

Alright, so my Samurai Vader is pretty much done and done. Sorry for the bad photo but my cats broke my lamps I use to light my pics. I'm pretty happy with him, but as long as the recipient of this figure is happy I am thrilled. Needless to say now that I've made one I want to make another. This figure is built off of a vintage Anakin Skywalker, but if I have another go I will probably use a Joe. There are so many ninjas that would make a good base, but the Anakin base keeps at least some semblance of Star Wars.

Haven't been around much. Busy with work and life stuff. Plus the customs I have been working on are just making more of my Shadow Troopers and I figure since I've already posted a pic of a previous batch it isn't worth posting more of the same. That said I am posting another version of a previous custom, simply because I thought it was such a cool custom when I made it I wanted another. So, I made myself another clone sniper. The one on the right is my original and the left is the new one to join the ranks

So, I made a custom Sith coming up on two years ago. He was one of my first attempts at learning customizing. I decided to take him apart and touch him up a little bit. He's essentially my attempt at a custom Revan, mainly because I don't have a Revan figure but refuse to pay the obnoxious prices being asked on sites like Ebay or Amazon. Gave him some back up too

So, I have been MIA for a while. I blame hockey and video games...and Instagram. But I also haven't really been working on anything until about two weeks ago when I got a request from a friend to make him a Krieg the Psycho in the outfit specific to his playstyle. He then said he wanted it built on a six inch scale, which for me is way out of my element. I've spent the last year just trying to get good on 3 3/4 scale. The other issue is this guy requires a lot of built/sculpted pieces. Not something I'd take on for myself or a random but since he's a friend who doesn't care how perfect it is I figured what the heck. At the very least it'll get me working again and I can learn a little about building to this scale. So, I started with a Captain America figure and have been bumbling, cobbling and cursing my way through. Here's the current state of things

This is what I started with

So another project I am currently working on is all the fault of Lucasclones. A while back he made a really cool Raphael in a trench coat figure that piqued my interest in TMNT customs. Then he did work on a Croc Master using the new Leatherhead figure that really made me want to make a turtle custom or two...then a short text conversation with him about how the scale of Leatherhead is wrong (as well as the scale of the soon to be released Bebop and Rocksteady) that I had no choice. So here are some pretty early in
 some respect WIP shots

Obviously I eventually decided to add a little height to Leatherhead. I also have the other three turtles mostly made all based off the same head and shell cast but after being pleased with Rocksteadys head sculpt, if I am as happy with Bebops I will likely do individual head sculpts for the turtles. We will see. I hate sculpting...mainly bc its not something I ever put the time into learning so I am making it all up as I go

Any chance we could get you signed up for an episode of CAFN? Back on our Front and FB Pages.

Just a quick update on what progress I've managed on my TMNT customs. I'm sure people with less procrastinated tendencies than I would have been done with at least some but I tend to get easily distracted and as such make minor progress over long periods. But here's some updates regardless

Nice, I like this a good bit. We like out SW here, but man I love seeing all the other AF Lines including TMNT. Bravo. Time to take this to our pages.

And no answer on the CAFN thing? ;)

Yeah, the lack of any real Star Wars fodder in stores (though I do have cases of it at home) has kinda of pulled me out of the Star Wars game a bit regarding customs. Also, I do this thing on IG where I ask folks for the suggestions on what they'd like to see and so few ask for Star Wars. And the few who actually ask me to make them a custom almost never ask for SW so for the time being I've moved away from that galaxy far far away.

Regarding the CAFN thing I'm not against doing it (though i hate hearing myself) but before I do it I need to get a little Kings Speech type training...not for a stutter mind you but for my extreme overuse of profanity when speaking freely. Haha

Btw, your header on the front page post is off. These guys are nowhere near finished. I was saying in the post how it takes me forever to make progress and in the two weeks since my last post this is all the progress I've made, which is not much

Nothing to apologize for. The base work is all done on them, it's all the add on I have to do. Like Rocksteady doesn't have a belt or ears, Bebop doesn't have a vest, glasses etc. the fact that the have a finished look I can only take as a compliment

So I decided to take a break from turtles bc they were eating all my time. I do have all four turtles, Bebop, Rocksteady and Leatherhead all in states of near completion but after a month I needed a break. Samurai were next on my list so here's one I started on. I'm modeling his build after Budo. If I had the skills and tools necessary I'd have taken a stab at molding Budo's armor but I've never had luck molding/casting soft goods. So I built it from epoxy and it is actually removable if need be. I have to figure out the helmet BUT that may wait is I have found myself with a bunch of 6 inch Sandtroopers. So, while I mentally work out a helmet for this guy I will turn one of my new Sandies into a Shadow Trooper. Anyway here's he wip for the samurai

You built those armor pieces with epoxy? Man, they look great. Off to share on our pages.

Wow, eight sandtroopers in the six inch line. You sure are making me envious of your great stores. So far I have only seen saga legends and I drove two hours one way to find that! Can't wait to see some six inch customs using this new line.

So after seeing the mention on the front page (thank you Tamer) I figured I was obliged to start a 6 inch custom. As I love me some Shadow Troopers I figured it a safe play to make my first custom just that. Besides my little Shadows need someone to look up to. Oh and Tamer, I've got more than 8   :o

Nice samurai. Love the Stormtrooper. Is it shadow or Black Hole..?

I tend to consider all of my custom stormies to be Shadow Troopers. I don't tend to paint them shiny black though. I prefer more of a metallic matte (if that description makes sense) bc even though ShadowTroopers had cloaking tech I always found the highly glossed black armor look to defeat the purpose when not cloaked

So, I completed two more Shadow Scouts. The last one, if you have instagram you may have seen the stop motion/time lapse creation of video. I think I'll need to reactivate my YouTube channel so I can post it (and more like it). I set the two new guys with a third older Scout to complete a three man squad. Only after uploading the pictures to Flickr did I remember the birthday contest. If you've seen my early custom pics you know I have two existing Shadow Scouts, so now I have 4 and a potential entry for the contest. If I enter them then you'll seenthese guys +1 over in that thread.

So, got a 3 day weekend and BBqing two of those days. But I'm trying to fit in time to work on two figures. Making a follow up to my Steampunk Fett (who's visible in the background of the first pic). Also, after getting my hands on the Hudson and Hicks figures from the Aliens movies, decided I didn't really have a use for both, so one has become fodder for a Black Series Galactic Marine. Both figures have a ways to go, but as I'm just killing time before guests come over I figures I'd post these WIPs

I'm really starting to see the appeal of the Steam Punk thing.  Love your Fett.
How are you making the tiny little valves and dials?  WIPs please!

Did anyone see the SyFy channel's Heroes of Cosplay Jesse when he made the Steamtrooper?  Those would look really cool as customs.

Still haven't had a whole lot of time to work and a lot of my stuff is still boxed bc of workshop situations but here are the few figures I've managed to cobble together. The first, was based off a custom someone posted on instagram. I have no idea who made the original or I'd credit his concept.

These other two, an Alex Hayden(Agent X) and an Urban Commando Deadpool were motivated out of vindictiveness. One for me, which was a commission I took that was stolen by another customized and one for a friend, who I would have made a custom for anyway, that I'm making for free bc he kinda got screwed by a customizer. Lucasclones dubbed me Darth Vindictavus bc of this. Hah. These two are still works in progress

Thanks. I tried to make sure most of the pieces on the Fett appeared functional. I didn't just want to slap gears all over the place and call it Steampunk. I really wish I knew who made the Vader someone showed me a pic of bc that's what I based this off of. It was just a pic of the broken mask with skull showing

I know I posted this Leo previously but he was relatively shoddily cobbled together. A friend of mine offered to trade me some of his art for him, so I decided to make him a little more solid. So this is him finished. Also, heres a post of some WIPs from the movie Dead Snow. Lucasclones saw my army of Red Skulls and suggested I turn some into zombies from that movie. None of these are done and there are still many to be built. Getting Herzog's face right is proving daunting

Well, been MIA again which is my nature. I've been working on multiple things to varying degrees but the figure with the most progress that is worth showing is my Black Series ROTJ Boba Fest. Still have to lose the gun and rework some straps but he's progressed nicely

Now all I got to do is wait hours for this shit to dry so I can shape and sand some more. I hate waiting. #bobafett #starwars #starwarsblack #photofett #jetpackwip #jetpacktoys #jetpackcustoms (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jetpackblues/11652863555/) by JetpackBlues (http://www.flickr.com/people/jetpackblues/)

I've had an incredibly hard time finding the time lately to work on stuff. It's been over a week since I last futzed around with #bobafett. Today put the second plate over his flamethrower and once that sets I can sand and paint. So, on the heels of an ROTJ Black series Boba Fett I am working on a Animated Debut Fett..hes gonna be a bit of a mish mash version based on the different looks he has. In the animation he has a color palette that seems to change and even between the 3.75 Animated figure and the new Marquette coming out he's different colors with different armor styles. So I figure I'll mix them all in

Dude I'm lucky if I remember my address most days. I'm currently in possession of about 16 Fetts (and 20 unmodified Sandtroopers) from the 6 inch line. Storm/Sandtroopers are really the only 2 goes I figures I collect. Though for me, collecting means just having lots. They all still get opened. Hah

damn.  Here I've finally got ONE to work with and I'm barely even going to modify it from it's original.

Here you go doing one of the things I was planning on doing if I ever got a second one.  Figure's someone would beat me to it...

now... how the HELL did you get 16 fetts?!  I can't find a single dang one out in stores!  NOONE will stock the line around here.

Also at 20 bucks a pop that's a sizable fortune.... more than my monthly car payment...  yeah, I think I'll stick to slightly modifying the ONE I have and call it quits.  This 6 inch line is too rich for my blood to customize in.

(but damn do I want to)

Oh yeah, good work matching the color palette btw.  That was one of the hardest things i've done when I did my 4" super arty version of animated fett.

What do you plan on using for the holster and belts?  (The other reason I won't get into 6" customizing,  I don't have any 6" fodder!)

I got a bulk of mine just recently after the holiday. Toy r us was doing a buy one get one 50% off. Fett, much like the Sandtrooper was impossible to find for a few months but now I guess was scalped enough times by the local scalpers that he's in stock.  My hope is that this will happen when the 6 inch stormtrooper comes out too. That he will be impossible to find for a few months then be overstocked for a few weeks.

I don't really know what I'm going to do regarding the belt.  I've given myself a little wiggle room though by not going completely one way or the other on which style so I technically can keep the belt the same and call it artistic choice. Hahah. What I will actually do is mold a bunch of pouches into clay and instead of casting them in plastic cast them in rubber and either cut off the two big pouches from the front of  Bobas soft good belt, or work off of Solos belt

Most excellent work! Really nice design you are going with that blends all of the reference images. Your sculpting looks great and I am wondering if the swivel still works on the legs? As Devin said your paint aps are really nice as well and match the original colors perfectly! Any chance you want to trade 1 Fett and 1 Sandie with me?

The swivels still work. You can see the original color of the pants underneath but the difference in color isn't going to be that different so I can't imagine it would be a glaring issue. I'm always open to a trade, but, I am a guy that opens every box that comes his way. I'm not sure if I have any boxed Sandtroopers left. I still have 2 or three boxes Fetts though.

As per usual I have months between posts with little new stuff to show for it. I got caught up making Galactic Marines because apparently there was a bit of demand for them, which I humored simply because I quite enjoy making them. Not complaining about the surplus cash either. While I have been chipping away on and off my current custom that may be of interest is the 6 inch Darth Talon. I know its a crappy iPhone shot but here she is in her current very much incomplete state. You can also see my since stalled Animated Hybrid Fest and a 1:18 scale Kruger from Elysium in the background

No, this was certainly not off of a Slave Leia. The base for this is a Marvel's Mystique figure

I bought a Slave Leia thinking I could make use of her but so far I can't. This is a Mystique figure of which I have two or three of. Once I finish this figure my plan is to make an Asaji Ventress from a Mystique as well. The figures face is actually pretty perfect for both Talon and Ventress and the lack of sculpting on the figure makes it a great base

I definitely should have waited for your answer first. Let me go correct that.

Either way what a great looking figure. I really think you are onto something here with this and cannot wait to see it completed.

I guess I was just hopeful that the Slave Leia could be turned into something useful. IMO, she is probably the most aesthetically unpleasing 6 inch Black Series Figure Hasbro has released.

Yeah, like I said, I have one and really have tried hard to find something to do with her but I just can't. I'm hoping this Darth Talon figure comes out even partially well because then I can ride the momentum into making the Asaji Ventress from the same Mystique base. Although my wife made a suggestion that I like better. She pulled up a picture I did of Darth Talon fights Ayla Secura and said "why don't you make the blue chick too. You won't have to paint it (since Mystique is blue). I think she may be on to something

nice work so far on that 6" Talon! I haven't had the pleasure of seeing the 6" Leia in person, but I can imagine giving preference to ML ladies. Most of them wear vacuum formed body suits anyway, so they're perfect base figures.

I'll have to post a pic of a custom She-Ra I'm working on, based on the ML Hope Summers. This 6" stuff is growing on my, despite me not having a single 6" SW figure  ;D

Its the start of a new work week which means I probably won't get much time to work on customs so heres the latest on my two girls. The progress on Ayala is pretty apparent where all the tedium on Talon may not be. Just a bunch of passes on her patterns trying to get them as sharp as possible. If I get time to work on these gals during the week the plan is to figure out their belts and sabers. Otherwise I'll just have to do doodles... gotta finish my Lucasclones doodle, haha

I just had to get these gals back on the front page today. I really like that upper top leather halter creation you have going on with Ayla, I like the fact its not all the same color leather. Keep it coming. Is it just me or is Ayla slightly larger than Talon? Wondering what body you used for this one. They both look spot on to me so far. I can't wait to see what you show us with them next.

I think its just where Aayla is standing that makes her look taller. They were both made from the Marvel Universe Mystique figure so they should by default be the same height. Though its possible the way they were sculpted, Aaylas lekku are higher on her head. I was talking with Chad the other day and I think my goal is to knock out a Ventress and a Mariss Brood to finish out my "midriff baring" females

finish out my "midriff baring" females

I like how you've categorized your 6" female customs.  You're working on two of my three favorite Twi'leks, but where's Oola?  Does Season 1 Ahsoka Tano fit iinto the midrif category, and are you planning on Arena Padme too?   ;)

Anyway, outstanding progress on the body tatoos.  That must be airbrushing.  Are you taping off the pattern or free-handing?

I love the soft goods leather on Aayla's halter.

Cant wait for the next WIP installment.
BTW  I'm glad I'm not the only one whose work table is a disaster area.    (http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/haushalt/c045.gif) (http://www.cosgan.de/smilie.php)

Also BTW, thanks.   You've almost got me to the point where I'm gonna cave on resisting the 6" TBS.

Airbrushing would probably have been easier but no. This is all brush painted. I lightly marked the general tattoo shapes with a pencil and then laid down paint. The biggest pain about her paint job is how she just seems to absorb light.

I don't know if Ill get around to Ooyla. Maybe if I figure out how to  soft goods her lekku I'll consider her. Anyway, unless you're finding Storm/Sandtrooper or Fett there's no reason to buy 6 inch TBS. I only the other hand have to buy some Luke's/Obi Wans and a maul so I can strip mine their light sabers for the chicks. Ha

Its been a busy few weeks and I haven't had much time to do much with these girls. But I've been asked in a quite a few places I post what the base figures were for the Twi'leks. Both of these girls are built primarily off ov this Mystique figure. I have a few more Mystique's and certainly hope I'll get the time sooner rather than later to work with them

So, I haven't really worked out what I was thinking when I started this, except maybe "why not". I had an X-Wing Luke that I was just tired of looking at and went over the options of what I could do with the flight suit base. It was a toss up between Bossk, Tie Pilot or AT-AT driver. why I went with Bossk...I have no clue considering he requires the most sculpt work out of the three and I DO NOT sculpt. At this point I have probably reworked him three times, his head was overhauled twice and I'm still not completely thrilled with him but at this point I just want him out of the way. I did see on a few sites that a 6 inch Black Series Bossk is rumored which is really all I needed to hear to decide "Screw it, this guy is done". Obviously he isnt actually done, but I'm done sanding down sculpt work, to resculpt, be not happy, sand it down again etc etc. So this is the rough cut of what he will be.

On a side note, I actually had to disable a second X-Wing Luke so that both of Bossk's legs had the same accessories, which means I now have another flight suit to play with. So, if i can figure out how to create the helmet I'll try either the pilot of the driver

While I won't go so far as to call this guy a legit addition to my minimal custom portfolio I certainly did make him. My buddy Krash_Override had a toy photography contest on Instagram (something I like to dabble in) and I entered pictures of Mega Bloks WWII figures fight g 3A robots. He made a joke about how the little MegBlok guys have more articulation that some Star Wars figures so I felt it was only fitting to make a little 2.5 inch (whatever size they are) Star Wars character with more articulation that some 1:18 scales. He's obviously not a spit polished custom, just something slapped together for giggles

So, this past weekend was a weird one that just led to me trying something I never thought about doing or ever attempted before. It all started with me first tooling around trying an AT-AT pilot but that not working out. So instead I started fooling around with a Tie Pilot. I got this far

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3881/14586343926_8dc8eeb0e2.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/odWPSo)Tie pilot wip and Mac (https://flic.kr/p/odWPSo) by JetpackBlues (https://www.flickr.com/people//)

I posted this WIP up on Instagram and one of my friends said it looked like a cross between Star Wars and Mad Max. Then he suggested I do a series of those figures. I liked the idea, but knowing of the awesome stuff Sillof does I assumed he must have gotten around to that mashup and upon visiting his site found that he indeed covered this concept... and recently at that. So I figured screw it. I'm not going to work the same concept. A few words with friends on it and they told me I should do it anyway, just do it 1:18 scale. Its not like I'd do the same thing. So I decided I would only consider it if I find a suitable vehicle. Yes, they actually have a 1:18 scale Interceptor from the movies but I'm not spending upwards of 200 dollars. So I went to my local shop and low and behold I found I cool die cast challenger for 23 bucks. I bought it. Here she is modeled by Evil Ash

(https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2909/14422956427_b4514c23a2.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/nYvqsx)Tie pilot wip and Mac (https://flic.kr/p/nYvqsx) by JetpackBlues (https://www.flickr.com/people//)

Ive never worked with vehicles and I certainly never worked with metal so I knew I was in for a puzzle. But I picked up some enamel paints came home and scratched my head. I wanted it to be "Mad Max'y" which means it would need a super charger. So I went to my hobby guy and picked up some dinky plastic kit that had parts for me to build one. That was the easiest part. I now realized I had to cut a hole in the hood for it to fit. The die cast metal hood... and I don't have tools to cut through metal. So I MacGyver'd up my poor little Dremel in a rather unsafe way, put on homemade body armor and went at it. An hour later I was still alive and I had my hole.

(https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5536/14608804422_a2b23ca2f9.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/ofVWAj)Tie pilot wip and Mac (https://flic.kr/p/ofVWAj) by JetpackBlues (https://www.flickr.com/people//)

So now I had the base down as best I could get it. Now I had to paint it. I sanded her down and primed her and attempted to lay down a silver undercoat with Model Masters enamel paint. It went on essentially transparent. Ok, maybe it just needs another coat. Three coats later and the door I was trying to paint was still primer colored, just shinier. So I had to sand it down again. This time I attempted to paint the silver undercoat with just a regular Testors silver. It went on with no issue. So I went about painting the whole cars undercoat with this paint. Now for the black. I figured surely the metallic black Model Masters would cover over... it didn't. It essentially went on transparent, again. So, I pulled out my flat black model masters. Surely this will coat. Surely it didn't. I don't know if I got a bunch of bad paints but I find it hard to believe all the paints I just bought that day were bad. Regardless I broke out the regular Testors black paints and had no issue. Then came weathering, another thing I've never tried on any scale larger than a 1:18 scale stormtrooper helmet. I went about this the way I go about everything (much the same way I went about this entire car), making up crap as I go along. I know there are a million tutorials on weathering and one day I will probably look at one but this day was not the day.

So, I got the car the way I want, still pending some work, but basically I like it. Then I start wondering about the figures. Should I do a Star Wars/ Mad Max mashup or just do Mad Max? I decided not to mash up, but I'm still not sure if I'm going to do movie Max or not. I feel like since the car is not accurate I shouldn't. So, for now at least, its gonna be Miffed Mac until I figure things out

I got a family owned toy shop in my neighborhood and he sells tons of Marvel stuff (and WWE). I bought him out of all his Mystiques. That said the new Storm is probably my favorite possibility for a base bc she's all paint app, no sculpt to sand off. Funny thing is a bought three but not for me. When I shop for figures I tend to shop for friends as well bc some of them live in areas where toys/comic shops are rare. But yeah, if I can get more storms she will be my new base figure (especially bc Mystique is gone. Haha)

So, after listening to the previous CAFN podcast with Dayton (talking about his customs, not SDCC) and once again just shaking my head in amazement at what this guy is capable of I decided, despite all my complaining about hating sculpting and how I don't really do much of it because I suck, I decided I should maybe reconsider. I've technically sculpted before, primarily for armor or pouches etc and yes technically adding lekku and horns to figures is a form of sculpting but none of that is really 'Sculpting" in my eyes. To me that's just par for the course. What Dayton's work really makes me wish I could do is head sculpting, so that's what I have decided to start trying to figure out. I highly doubt I'll ever get comfortable enough to do it at the scale he does it, especially for human faces. A while back I did sculpt a Bebop and a Rocksteady head, but they were large and I feel "monster" heads have a more forgiving suck factor. That said, I feel like if I can get a reasonable handle on it, its a useful tool to have in my "toolkit". I haven't had much time to do anything the last few weeks because once again my workspace is inhabited by foster kittens, but I did manage to get these attempts at sculpting heads in last week. So, while they are not customs, they are all I've had time for. (if you follow me on IG you saw these a few days ago)

I've never been good at or tried it for more than the occasional ammo pack or armor piece or the one time I made heads for Bebop and Rocksteady. I started a Ventress but then took on fostering kittens so all work on figures has been put on hiatus. I had to pack up a lot of my stuff, but I still have enough space to work with some monster clay to teach myself some sculpting, while watching kittens tear it up around the room

No Tamer that was a Zandozan "Intersteller hit beast" they have eyes by the sides of their heads and are butt ugly, this is one of the Star League pilots that Alex trod on his tentacle and he threatens to crush Alex into Goraan dust.

So, was looking at some customs that never made it through the preliminary phase and decided to work at finishing one or two. I've been putting some work the last few days into a Kruger from the movie Elysuim custom I started a ways back but quit on because I was unhappy with the vest I created. Now, I'm well aware if I planned out customs instead of making things up as I go along I may not run into issues like this, but I ams who I ams. That said I figured out ways to make it work for me. He's not done but he's a lot better than he was. Here's his progress

I initially felt bad because I didn't go movie accurate but I think I would have gone nuts if I tried. Plus, the only other Kruger figure, custom or otherwise, I was able to find wasn't screen accurate and that was a 12 inch figure so I felt less bad about it. Hah

District 13 will probably be the sequel haha. This movie was District 9. I wonder if they will ever do a sequel. Hmmm.

It's been a while since I've posted anything...simply bc it's been a while since I've felt motivated to make anything. Seeing these dinky ReAction figures motivated me though. Once I saw a Predator figure with the trademarked 5 points of articulation I knew I needed to make a 1:18 scale that could actually move. Here's the current state of the figure

So, making progress on my 1:18 scale predator based off of my desire to make one a little more mobile than the ReAction 1:18 scale figure. Thinking I'm gonna try and rework his head since I've gotten a lot of crap from people who have seen the head on IG. But for now this is his head. I'm beginning to wish I posted this up in the birthday contest section. Hey Shawn, if I make him a dio and a few extra accessories can he be entered even though he wasn't originally posted in the contest section? Anyway, here's some progress shots

Haven't been terribly active with customizing again but vowed for New Years to get back on the horse. Here are the first two WIPs Ive been cobbling together. A Boba Jr (or young Boba) and a guy I was curious about when I picked up the 3 3/4 version of him and thought it just looked like a red Boba Fett with a different pouch or two. I've honestly been unable to find any real photo references for Dred Priest which I guess gives me room to make him the way I want and still get away with saying this is him. Haha. I'm pretty sure Priest actually has shin guards but I'm unsure if I'm actually going to worry about that.

What's interesting is when I was looking for Priest references pics that weren't the figure This is the pic I belive Wookepedia gives as being him. And considering he apparently had a relationship with Isabet, the pic made sense to me as being Priest.
Here's the entry. It's in the behind the scenes section with a link to the artists Depiction of Dred Priest with a written description that is this pic. Haha. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Dred_Priest

The pic of the goatee having dude in red Mandalorian armor is Ghes Orade not Dred Priest according to Wookieepedia's Ghes Orade description and also pictures of Ghes Orade:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ghes_Orade (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Ghes_Orade)

In the picture with Ghes Orade is a woman with flowers in her hair wearing yellow Mandalorian armor. That is Mirta Gev (Boba Fett's granddaughter) and she married Ghes Orade.

Hasbro made up Dred Priest, and based him off of Ghes Orade, that's why there's only action figure pics of him, he has no other source. I think it may have been to get around some legalities to essentially get us Ghes Orade, and Isabet Reau's only source is her figure, but she's based off Ghes Orade's wife. That's why they look similar, and both have a romantic involvement. Personally I love Mandalorians, and think this figure's great, even if it turns out you made a different character than you intended.

Well alright then. That explains the confusion. The fact Wookepedia used this pic for Priest as well really screwed me up. So, it's a Ghes Orade custom.

Been working on a 10 inch The Maxx custom as a commission. He's almost done. Decided he looked a little lonely and needed an accessory or two so I made a Julie leopard/jungle queen to go with it for no added charge. Then decided that wasn't enough. Felt for it to really feel like The Maxx he would need an Isz, so I made one. But what's an Isz without it master...no, I didn't decide to also throw in a full scale Mr.Gone to the commission as well. I'm not crazy. Just his decaptiated head. Here's  WIP of the Isz and Gone. I'll post Maxx when I can shoot him with something other than my iPhone.

Haven't had much to show in way of customs lately. A bunc of half finished ones but it's just been a hectic few months. I did finish this guy though. So here's a crappy smart phone photo of the completed Galactic Marine built off of a Neca Windrex and a Black Series Cody/Clone Trooper. He still has a sealing layer and I will probably paint his SIG MPX's but for all intents and purposes he is done.

(https://farm1.staticflickr.com/366/19640284118_1738c5037e_z.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/vVxAdf)Galactic Marine 2 (https://flic.kr/p/vVxAdf) by Tim (https://www.flickr.com/photos/jetpackblues/)

I had used Cody's head but a clone body, simply because I had "ruined" the Clone Trooper head while prepping a different custom. But after I finished this figure I decided I may be able to salvage the clone head. And since I figured this marines squad could use a flame trooper I did a quick slap together of what that figure will essentially be comprised of. I'm not sure though if the squads camo scheme will work on this guy as a flame unit. i guess i will find out. here's the mockup of the GM Flame Trooper

Yeah, I didn't think to film this guys build. He was sort of an out of nowhere build. As for loading the video to your YouTube channel, I don't have an issue with it, but it does use existing music. If it doesn't load let me know and I'll load up a music free version. Ha

Thanks Tim, the next time I get some internet play time I will try to upload that. I did get that new wip on the pages too. I can't wait to see how you paint this one up. I don't think you could go wrong with a traditional or GM paint scheme.

I agree with Tamer about the the Xenomorph Spider. I also really like the look of the Arkham Knight body for the Mando - hadn't thought of that (great eye!). Really cool update.

How cool would it be to see this in a new Alien vs. Predator! Awesome idea Sjefke!

Tim, did you have this idea on your own or does this exist in that genre already? Either way just a fantastic piece. My daughter was looking at the site this morning and marveled at that creation.

Post by: JetpackBlues on November 11, 2015, 09:43:20 AM
I'm not aware of it existing anywhere. I guess it's always possible. This was a result of me not wanting to throw away a broken xenomorph figure I had that the legs broke off of. The plan was to just chuck it. I sent KrashOveride the original head and put the torso in my dump bin. I'm dumping a ton of old fodder and figures to make room for my incoming infant. But then I found a Shelob figure while cleaning and this just seemed right. Haha. I had to rip the head off of The Beast xenomorph figure but it's looking to be worth it. Still have a whole lot of little details to add but so far so good

I was thinking Hobbit Spider, but man what an epic creation. I could see an entire comic series or movie series revolved around that beasty.

Just a quick piece of work on Constable Zuvio. some very minor weathering and some facial reworking. I really like the figure but from the images of him from the movie (before he was cut out) he seemed to have bigger eyes, so I apparently had to give him bigger eyes

I never finished the spider alien. I had a mishap that rendered one leg static and another hanging by a thread. It needs to be glued back on which will render that leg static as well. So I've given up out of frustration.

Thanks Hemble

I really dig your skin job in a trench coat character.  Did you sculpt that?
Suvio looks good too.  I didn't know he was cut from the movie.  What a waste.  Nobody is going to buy him now.
I'm devastated by the spider alien mishap.   Don't give up on him.  I've frozen joints with careless crazy glue applications.  It'll probably take replacing the ball joints, but form what I've seen, that's well within your skill sets.
Title: Re: JetpackBlues Customs Intro
Post by: JetpackBlues on December 28, 2015, 09:05:27 PM
It may be within my skill set but I'm not sure if it's in Shelob's make up. The joints that attach to her torso are soft rubber and to get them out and altered may be more destructive to the work already done than just dealing with 2 frozen legs. At worst I won't be able to sell it. Haha

I know I am not the only one who picked up a Guavian Enforcer and immediately thought "Deadpool". So this was bound to happen. I regret not thinking to video the whole build, but with an infant son demanding most of my time and brain power I'm not surprised by my lack of forsight (the first image is a quick head paint that apparently only plays on Flickr). Anyway, he's just about done.

progress is slow, which isnt a shock with a baby. but he is coming along. my current issue is, I can't find a good way to attach the soft good belt straps together. I may try a soldering iron as glue doesn't seem to work

How awesome would it be if 1313 would've actually been released? Jedi Fallen Order seems to be a full hit and I just played Battlefront 2 for the first time today. The campaign is great so far. And so is your custom figure! Maybe they give 1313 a second chance and release it next year now that The Mandalorian is out.
Excellent chpice of parts there! They look brilliant with the softgoods!
