This months customizing challenge (from now till August 15th) is inspired by the art of Ralph McQuarrie. I think it is a great way to pay homage to the man that gave us so many things that we love. Also with his passing we feel it is a very timely idea and subject matter we have not tried before. This is going to be a very broad subject in hopes to get the most entries. We will allow anything that was inspired by, reimagined, repainted or an exact buid from one of his paintings or sketches. It can be a figure, a vehicle, a small diorama or a combination of all three. This has to be a new creation, old work can not be submited other than for inspiration. One entry per forum member and 6 pictures of your entry may be submitted. We also want to see a 7th photo of the art that inspired your creation. The prize for this event is the satisfaction you get from the hobby and the awesome art you create!. Have fun everyone!

Awesome idea and I have to say that Spry had this idea soon after the passing of this great man and held off to allow us to finish the Combined Sites and then the Hide In Plain Sight Customs Contest. This is gonna be another fun one and who knows if I might sniff out a prize or two for this as well. This is Spry's Baby though so please direct all detail oriented questions to L.E.

I am going to start this off with a McQuarrie vehicle I customized a while back. This is not an entry just something to get ideas flowing and a little inspiration. My idea was to take the concept Snowspeeder and give it a traditional paint scheme seen in ESB. Below are the results.

That little snowspeeder now is residing in my collection room. It is awesome. One day it will have its own hanger. What a perfect concept for this contest though!

What vehicle did that snowspeeder used to be? It kind of looks like a Buck Rogers Starfighter, I love that paint job and the droid socket is a must on any ship I build if there is a space for it, and you very often add a droid socket on your vehicles. I'm waiting on a head in the mail, and once it arrives I'll be soon entering a figure into your contest.

There was a line of potf2 vehicles called Expanded Universe and this Concept Snowspeeder was one of em. They also had a single ship Cloud Car and the Cruise Missle Trooper (oh yes I have one of those) was a part of this mix. I think they also had a different version of a speederbike too. I really liked this line. I definitely want to get good boxed versions of these one day.

Is there a good website to view McQuarrie's artwork for reference material?

I simply googled Ralph McQuarrie, looked at a few web sites, then clicked on images and there was a wealth of photos, some I had never seen.

Try Google and then hit images and research Ralph McQuarrie. You will get thousands of images.

I honestly didn't know this was originally conceived by Ralph. I couldn't find an image for crap online, so I snapped a pic from a book I have. The hint helped too.

Per WEG's SWRPG, it's an Ubbrikkian landspeeder, radial symmetry. Cool stuff!

I haven't done a custom in awhile, i need to get out of my rut. Maybe a diorama to pratice with one I'm going to help a friend do later this year.

Is anyone working on something for this? Does anyone need some photos for inspiration? Any questions? I had hoped to see some WIP"s by now. I have done a few things to my landspeeder and hope to take a few photos in the next few days.

I'm thinking of my entry but i have a good idea! Yet i might not enter cause my action figure budget is low. :'( :( :( And figures at regular stores are so expensive!

I wanna do something for this, I got a couple pics saved. Anyone have any good Tuskin Raider pics? The ones I could find they kinda just look like reg Sand People, nothing special. What about Sandtroopers? Did he ever paint those? The other pic I got saved is real cool.. not sure if I can do it, but if I did, it'd be awesome!

Ok, I have been wracking my brain over what to do to entice some builds here and I am happy to report that I was contacted by Sith Happens who was kind enough to donate $30 worth of cast items to the winner (forum fan vote) of this contest. Thank you SH!

I went to Target and seen the Star Wars Jedi Force Snowspeeder and thought it would be a great start for an updated McQuarrie concept one man snowspeeder....but I got a WIP for this I plan to put up soon but affraid it might not get finished.

Glad to hear people are getting started on something for this event. I am so close to completion on mine, hoped I could wrap it up yesterday but I had 3 customs that were begging to be completed as well. So I compromized and worked on them and my landspeeder. My entry will be complete in just a few days.

Well I feel like an idiot now the WIP I was working on is actually a Joe Johnson concept not a McQuarrie...so I guess I will miss this one.

For my entry I made the round Landspeeder, yes, it is listed as a Landspeeder, you see outside the Cantina in ANH. It was designed by Ralph McQuarrie and I have wanted one ever since I saw it so many years ago.

Shawn I wanted to, but didn't have the fodder needed. I plan to look for a certain vintage mini rig at c6 to bring this thing to life one day.
