Title: Hide In Plain Site Customs Contest
Post by: Tamer on May 02, 2012, 05:32:19 AM
Hot off the heels of our great TOR Combined Sites Contest we now team up with Clone Crazy for a create a figure for his Photo-Novel Contest.

In this groundbreaking custom contest, sponsored by Imperial Shipyards (ISY), your submissions, based of off Hasbro's popular 3.75' action figure line, will determine the design of an all new character, set to play a major role in the upcoming photonovel: Star Wars The Clone Wars Shroud Of Darkness: Episode 1.2 Forceful Beings. You may submit brand new custom figures or relevant older customs between May 1st and June 15th. The contest will be divided into two sections: a fans choice winner, determined by your votes, and an author's choice, selected by CloneCrazy. The winner of the author's choice category will receive a $50 prize and their custom figure featured as the sinister Separatist Scientist, Nicola Acris. The winner of the fans choice category will receive a special Star Wars Hasbro product and their custom figure spotlighted on ISY (In the event of a tie between entries a week long runoff election will be held between the tied entries). Please, only one vote per forum member. Contestants should note, if your figure is selected as the author's choice winner it will become the property of CloneCrazy and must be shipped to CloneCrazy (shipping is your responsibility) , in order to utilize the figure as the character of Nicola Acris in the upcoming photonovel.

Who is Nicola Acris? Nicola Acris is a brilliant, yet demented, Separatist bioengineer under the command of General Grievous. Acris was responsible for the development of much of the cybernetic technology used to resurrect Grievous following his near fatal shuttle crash. Obsessed with harnessing the power of the force for himself, General Grievous enlists the aid of Acris and the two embark on a dark quest to manipulate the body’s midi-chlorian count. The silhouette is only meant to serve as a promotional piece and in no way limit your creativity!

Not that I know of Doc, but we can perhaps hear what Clone Crazy thinks. I would think the sky is the limit.

May delve into this... are our parts choices limited to SW figs exclusively or can we bring together any 3.75" toyline???

Now, for a special advance preview of Star Wars The Clone Wars Shroud Of Darkness, Episode 2.1 Forceful Beings.

Advancing during a break in the fierce blizzards, which ravage the surface of Alzoc III, the Separatist  droid army moves  quickly to surround the few surviving Republic troopers.

Deflecting fire from the advancing droids Plo questions, “Where are the gunships commander?”. “Still 12 clicks out, General. The snow is slowing their progress.”, Wolffe shouts to be heard over the cacophony of the battle.

Kit warns, “Not the Separatist’s. Look,  reinforcements coming in from the east!”.

Grievous advances across the snow covered wasteland, towards the besieged Republic forces.

Plo gravely states, “I’ll deal with this.”.

Plo rushes out to meet the advancing General, summoning the power of the force...

... allowing the Jedi Master to quickly dispatch Grievous' bodyguards.

Grievous laughs, “Master -aghh- Koon, a bold move , but a foolish one.”. Plo gravely answers, “That remains to be seen.”.

Grievous continues, “I have been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku -aghh- himself, you are no match for me Jedi scum!”.

Plo tears off the mask protecting his face from the bitter cold, coming face to face with the cyborg he replies, “The Jedi arts are far greater than learning to hack away with a lightsaber, Grievous. A truly powerful Jedi, or Sith, could win a battle without drawing their weapon. The ability to defeat one’s opponent with a lightsaber is insignificant next to the potential of the Force.”. Grievous laughs, “Than prove it Jedi, -aghh- discard your lightsaber and use your precious force to defeat me!”.

Plo deactivates  his lightsaber, standing defenselessness before the cyborg warrior.

Meanwhile, as the droids continue to advance Wolffe warns, “We can’t hold out much longer!”.

Kit calmly replies, “We won’t have to!”.

Just then, fire rips through an advancing column of droids...

... as a Republic Gunship roars over the battlefield!

The gunship sets down behind the Republic lines, prompting Commander Wolffe to order, “Everyone in, double time!”.

As the Gunship climbs above the snow bank, Kit orders, “Warthog, bring us in low near General Koon.”.

“Copy that General.”, Warthog answers from the cockpit.

Advancing on the unarmed Jedi Grievous warns Plo, “There is no escape Jedi, I am your death!”.

Plo dodges a savage blow while reciting, “There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.”.

Plo continues, “There is no passion, there is serenity.”, unleashing a mighty force push...

... hurling Grievous into a nearby column of ice.

Plo leaps aboard the hovering gunship, looking down at Grievous from the gunship Plo concludes, “There is no death, there is only the Force.”.

The gunship speeds away, leaving Grievous alone.... TO BE CONTINUED

As always, credit goes to my awesome sister for the beautiful photographs! Thanks to you the fans and the staff at ISY for your support!!!

I would like to present my contest submission of Nicola Acris. My concept behind this custom is that since Nicola Acris was a main developer of General Grevious cybernetic technology, then perhaps her appearance should reflect a shared armour and weapon tech with General Grevious. I also based her look on one of my favorite mad scientist Shockwave from Transformers. hope you like :)

Here's my entry...

Figure is fully articulated with a ball-joint head and ball-joints in both shoulders.  Additionally, the right cybernetic arm has a pivoting elbow joint and a removable grasper, giving the hand the effect of a rotating wrist.

Here you can see the figure using two of the included accessories - a "medical scanner" and a "datapad."

Hm... I see some touchups I need to make in the paint.  Drat.  I won't have that fixed before the end of the contest, but I'm planning to fix it next weekend.  Judge accordingly.

Here, the figure's right grasper has been removed and replaced with a larger "medical apparatus" arm.  Who knows what that thing is capable of???

Figure comes with these accessories: grasper-hand, medical apparatus "hand," tool-kit with lid, medical scanner, datapad.  Backdrop wall & stand not included.

I'll discuss the making-of over on my custom figs thread shortly...

Nice entry Doc!

This contest has the best entries of any contest I've seen on here. I'd want all 3 of these figures in our collection.  They are just awesome! Very original!

Sprywalker, I just wish I'd thought of using the nanite warhead!  That would have looked so cool attached to that medical attachment arm.

Here's my entry.  I'm not sure if you want to pay $50 for him though. He cost a lot less than that to make, labor included.  When I set out to create this action figure I wanted to make one that anyone could just create at home. The two figures I used have been on shelves in retail stores for months. With all the repacks flooding store pegs, now would be a great time to treat yourself to a custom action figure and actually add a new figure to your collection for a change.   He's even in a popular photonovel.  (Suggestive)

Pitch continues:
It's not like we are able to find any of the new Star Wars figures at retail.

All I  used was the G.I. Joe Renegades Tunnel Rat and the Clone Wars Cold Weather Plo Koon. The head and hands are from the Plo Koon and the rest is all Tunnel Rat. I painted the arms with a few coats of Citadel's Delvan Mud wash and the hands with Reaper's Earth Brown acrylic paint. I squirted some glue from the hot glue gun into the hole in Plo Koon's head so it would fit tightly on the head peg and still be able to maintain the articulation of a ball joint."

If you pick this guy, everybody can move stagnant stock out the door and get a photonovel character as an action figure.

Very nice!  I've seen Tunnel Rat a total of ONCE (and bought him immediately).  The pegwarmers from that wave around here are Ripcord and Scarlett...

What a great use of two "peg warmers"!!! I have always been a sucker for the idea of evil Dorins and he would certainly fit the bill for Nicola Acris  DH I've been blown away by everyone's submission thus far, I have a really hard decision on my hands!!!

Ok folks we are going to give you all of this weekend to get your Nicola Acris on. As of Sunday night this one will be over. I hope a few extra days will get those last few figures added.

Then, we will get the voted thread started, Clone Crazy can pick the one he likes for his photo-novel and we can get the prizes sorted. I do appreciate everyone's patience while we try to grant a few extra days.

I'd love to get my submission in on time, but my MS has been causing me to be less than dexterous lately. Wishing everyone all the best and cannot wait to see who ends up the winner! :)

Fun shots:
(keep in mind, figure does not come with background wall-pieces, HALO plasma pistol-turned-pneumospray, or medi-kit/crate...)

Light the color of a stagnant creek filtered in through grimy windows, making Nikola's eye-stalks itch.  The first nondescript shipping case unloaded was a full-spectrum sterilization unit, the scientist had made certain of that.  It was identical to the units in use across the galaxy by the GAR's Rimsuu's, tasked with patching up wounded clone troopers...

The nightmarish creature dressed up like a man turned and spoke.  Its voice sounded like a stream of small gravel.  "Please to coming in.  I have important vaccination for to giving you."  The thing it held seemed more weapon than medical tool...

If you check out the fan-fiction forum here, you'll find some of my Fixer fiction.  Once I get a real story finished around him and his crewmates, that'll be what I do.  Tramp-freighter crew...

Hi.  Greetings from JTA.  Matthew Rush, this is it.

Please pardon the crummy phonecamera  quality.   I need to get a new REAL camera.

Thanks

Wow, I can see some great activity has happened in here. I am locking this down. I will try to create the voting thread in a day or so, but give me some time folks. I have a horribly spotty internet connection right now.

Very nice work though folks. I have no doubt that CloneCrazy can find what he needs now!
