I'll tell ya what to do, sell it to me! HAHA I would gut it and build a floor that would make it 2 levels and the ship would always stand up.

Nice swoop wip!, Cool that is krypto's  ship, AWESOME! you could add some star trek chairs/consoles from the 2009 movie toyline and paint it silver plus other colors, or you can make it a rust bucket for some villians !  ;D

Nice look to this vehicle! Again I am loving this, yet another piece of vehicle fodder I have never seen. It has some nice details already, cool panel lines to work with. Do you plan to add random bits to this thing or are you ready for paint?

I still have things to do to it, I have to cover some big holes on the sides and I'm playing with the idea of detailing the controls and body

I got a Cap. American tank for ten dollars at Target thought it looked clone wars-ish... and I was some what disappointed it had two doors that lead to plastic walls...so I cut out the walls

@ Spry  Would love to do more but I'm at a stand still I'm trying to figure out how to make a hinge system for two seat on the "bed" of the tank so two troopers can sit or have four standing
Title: Re: WIP Sport Swoop
Post by: Luke Sprywalker on July 02, 2012, 06:45:21 PM
I can try to offer suggestions if you post some close up pics of what you are trying to do. You can use jewelry box hinges or glue styrene rod to the part and make some "U" shaped pieces to glue to the frame that does not move.
Title: Stuck on problems
Post by: krztfr on July 05, 2012, 12:04:31 PM
I'm stuck on a few problems here

The huge unprotected gap and how the driver sits too low to see anyways
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7120/7509627110_058afab495.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57753623@N08/7509627110/)

The guns just dont seem right to me and the main one seems a bit small and awkward looking for a tank gun
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8142/7509627808_6e1ed02f6d.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57753623@N08/7509627808/)

Originally the gunner was standing well now I need to figure out how to make him sit....is it wierd that his feet are in the face of the guy on the bottom?
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8006/7509628780_375f3cd259.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57753623@N08/7509628780/)

And finally I'm not sure to go with a bench style or two seperate seats that way they can look out on each side....
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7278/7509631602_5b1fb03ff9.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57753623@N08/7509631602/)

plus how to put them on a hinge so I can fit 4 clones in there
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8427/7509635774_2692cca7a5.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57753623@N08/7509635774/)

Heres two speeders I'm going to also work on

This one is from a power ranger toy I'm thinking of Princess Leia's personal Coruscant speeder
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8143/7532869642_95729a3cb0.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57753623@N08/7532869642/)

And this one is for my moisture farmer to get from vaporator to vaporator
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8285/7532868872_b508121c54.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57753623@N08/7532868872/)

Ok I got he chair hinge figured out

Prototype

I originally wanted this to be able to be something escorting the Turbo Tank and keep up with the speed how ever I got a wild idea and want to know if I should keep the wheels or make it a walker?
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8283/7532889402_c4d4f7eb89.jpg) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57753623@N08/7532889402/)

OK, I am Jealous of you finding tose 2 awesome little speeders! I really love that second one! Great idea to hook up some moisture farmer with that inclosed ride! If you ever get tired of is please sell it to me!

Not sure about the legs. I could see removing the wheels, adding engins/cargo boxes and making it a battle tank like vehicle.

I say a walker would be neat!
Title: Re: WIP Sport Swoop

I prefer to see walkers used by the empire, huge slow moving machines to strike fear in the enemy. Clones of the Republic fought robots that had no fear so they used lighting war tactics to hit hard and fast where it hurt the enemy the most just like thier Jedi generals did.
Title: Small Speeder
Post by: krztfr on July 16, 2012, 08:45:58 AM
Needed a small break from tank so I added a means of stearing and some small details

These were a perfect fit and they swivel still not to mention they look Clone Wars-ish so they will stay

I figured due to not having the proper style legs I will keep it a tank until I find them...Now which gun looks better?

Not really.. I had found a better backrest for the main bench I made so ripped it out plus I decided on a new main gun which I have yet to post still not too sure about making it into a walker either legs make it look like a giant metal frog or something plus wheels are riveted on. The swoop has a nice gloss black coat over it but I'm not skilled enough to add details.

Took the wheels off whats the best way of attaching the legs? Glue seem like it might be too week.

And I gave my old POTF2 AT-AT to my son but I never liked how a troop carrier didn't have much room for troops so I took out the lights and sounds gimmick...made a makeshift cover for the floor hopefully I can get a vintage battery cover...Plus turn the useless door into another playable platform

DUDE!  That variable geometry speeder is so awesome!  I have one of those backpacks clogging up the parts bin, what a cool use for it!  Also, I really dig the AT-AT mod.  I'm doing something similar for the total AT-AT repaint I'm slowly working on.  I also dig the mods to the Cap'n America vehicle.  Keep up the good work!

I've never tried to add legs to somethin' before, but screws or magnets seem like two good options.

Well, in this case I always use a spray primer as a base (it is usually white or gray), then I paint the section and apply some matte varnish to avoid this paint loss caused by friction.

BTW, congrats for the new project!

I've had good luck with lightly dremelling smooth the high areas as well as painting it, then applying some super glue very carefully as a coating over the part that wears. Acts like a barrier. However, be careful that you don't glue the joint. Use an old retired paint brush and just get the middle in sections.

The cockpit looks awesome! For the paint rub You could try a spray of Dull Cote first. If that doesn't help I would lightly dremel, sand, paint then spray with dull cote.

I concur with Spry. I have had some luck with applying a matt varnish prior to paint. The pre sanding can only help.

That cockpit looks fantastic!

I wouldn't say I'm an expert on these sorts of projects, but I find masking tape a good way to get straight edges, as for how the surface takes the paint, I generally give it a light sanding to give a surface that the paint will stick to easier. I really like this thread as you have so many projects on the go at once! They all look great too! Well done! :)

After the numerous attempts on Senator Amidala's life called for a more military presence on Naboo thus the N-2 "Dagger" was born stronger shields, and more maneuverability due to the dagger shaped chassis, and lighter for maximum speed, as well as having more fire power.

Added some details to one of the walls...The catwalk is from a Theed Hangar playset and the area under it is from the droid carrier (screwed in) I didn't feel bad about putting the dremel to it since I got it for $30. The ladder is from a Firetruck model from Wal-Mart and added a bit of other model parts...not totally done but just wanted the big parts on first before I moved to the other wall. The legs are from some GIJOE mechs

Starting play with the paint and design trying for a worn paint "in battle" look, the blue around the red "eye" is just for placement not final...

Thanx guys I didn't expect it to get this much praise. You cant really tell in pics but I also moved the cone(air intake?) thing on the bottom and moved it to the other side to make it more like the game too. I also took a push pin that you use to hang posters and cut the pin from the plastic "push" part, and drilled a small hole in the bike and strut, then glued the metal pin in both holes as well as glued the surfaces to get a semi strong hold.

I bring you yet another Goodwill treasure. The handle was too think for the hands of the 6 inchers so I dabbled alittle into scratchbuilding and added a tiny control panel.

Well I got a woodburning hot knife from Micheals my Dremel and some Milliput and some legos to make some articulation. This has to be 3d printed the pastic when dremeled is very..."fibery" not like the usual abs plastic like vehicles.

Well your 3D Printing notion sure would explain why they didn't add any leg articulation to this vehicle. Makes the most sense out of anything I have seen Hasbro admit or deny.

Lovely project, looks great. Off to share. I will be waiting to see what poses you can get when finished with the other one. Do the LEGO joints seem strong enough to support this?

Post by: IMPURGE on May 07, 2015, 08:30:19 AM
whoa krztfr do you have a youtube video of how you did this or more pics? i've thought about going another route using magnets, just because i thought it would make supporting the body stronger, but if this works with some legos and what not i might give your method a try. i've never used a hot knife before, is that just to cut pieces apart?

looks great so far look forward to seeing more.

Fantastic idea!  I have a few lego ball joints laying around and I've been wanting to articulate this vehicle... I might have to consider this.
Title: Re: One legs done...

I was just talking about this. Did you get the second leg done? Does it support the weight ok? I too would love to see a how to tutorial on this one.

I also have to admit seeing the legs hollow on the inside and the underbelly make me glad we asked that question to Hasbro. Maybe they will produce a snap cover for these open areas.
Title: Re: One legs done...
Post by: spudafett on June 03, 2015, 08:31:46 AM
would you mind taking a picture of the inside of the leg that you've made the mods to so we can see better what kind of lego joints you've used and how you arranged them inside the hollow leg?

Yea i can take a pic Spud.

Tamer...all i got done are the rough cuts havent been able to pick up the dremel in
awhile.

Impurge....no I dont have a youtube channel mainly cuz i provbably wouldnt finish them. However i didnt need one so i dont think anyone else would but i could be wrong.

Upper leg Joint...
Trimmed the lego and had trouble getting glued on so used Milliput

Lower leg...
I was lucky they were all one connection but some shaving and trimming had to be done to make it fit...

Foot...
I originaly wanted to screw the lego into foot but it wouldn't work so I used milliput just worried about how long til it breaks...

hmm.  Those are unlike any lego joints I've ever seen (of course I haven't bought a new set of legos in probably 10 years).

I do have a technic kit though with some ball joints and stuff that I think I might be able to rig up into something similar.  Good work on getting those pieces in there.  I would recommend using styrene to cover the insides of the legs to help disguise the new pieces.  Or at least paint them to match of course.
Title: Re: One legs done...
Post by: krztfr on June 04, 2015, 01:42:37 AM
You cant really tell but they stick out alittle so styrene wont work i was going to put other leg together then paint it. The lego pieces are ratchet joints from a lego Knightseries that had a few knights about the size of a bionicle. I think i seen some on a Batman robot they had out...just keep your eyes open or there online lego store might sell the pieces.

hm, ratchet joints would be best for this aplication.  I wonder if they will eventually give out from the weight of the walker though?

Wow, your mod of the AT-DP is awesome! I think many people including me did not buy it because of the lack of articulation in its legs. So I agree with Starchaser!
Hasbro can learn a lot from you! It's a shame that they cut tooling costs at the wrong end...so really nice work on this nice walker! Thanks for sharing!
