Title: YakFace: Cast 1:18th melted Vader Helmet 4/14/16 page24
Post by: YakFace on November 02, 2011, 12:54:48 AM
Well it's been awhile since I last did a custom Star Wars figure but the recent Hasbro toys have been too cool and sparked my interest in the hobby again. So here is what i have been up too, Jabba's Rancor!! So this was made using the TAC Force Unleashed Battle Rancor from Target, I loved the new sculpt on the Rancor but it just was not right for the one in Jedi. So I started chopping and re-sculpting using Kneadatite aka "Green Stuff" and it has come along real nice. Tell me what you think!!

Here is a picture of the arm shackle, this has been sort of challenging as there are not allot of good reference photos that show all the detail. If anyone has a good shot of this thing it would help me out, otherwise I think I can do an alright job by using educated guesses LOL.

Hey thanks for the compliments, I just wanted to tell you that "green stuff" is amazing. I used to use Super Sculpey but hands down green stuff works waaaay better for making customs. Get your hands on some and I can totally give you some pro tips!

that is an awesome rancor, looking more like it should in RoTJ,I have TFU too,and have been thinking of making a custom from it,but since i have that huge jabba rancor already,i may go with a different color scheme, but taking on a project that size takes time and commitment, and i have niether lol,but yours is awesome, and good job on the paint work, also your heading in the right direction with the arm cuff.

Yeah this project has taken me alot of time to get right, there was all kinds of research through books and watching the Rancor battle about 800 times and that was just the start. I think that I have poured about 40 hours of sculpting time and 20 hours of painting so far into this guy. The end result should be awesome but I totally get your point of not having time for this size custom. I really have to "make" time for it and try to squeeze it in when ever I can, I take it to work and use my lunch break to paint/sculpt LOL.

I have been wanting to do a custom rancor for a LONG LONG time but can't ever find one cheap enough that I'd feel comfortable chopping up!

I'd love to see a big "bull rancor" custom done with giant tusks and horns growing all over it... it's something I saw in the concept art from TFU and fell in love with.

Yeah it is not an easy toy to get for cheap, I had to really think about cutting mine up before I did it. Also the Bull Rancor could be really cool if you just went all out on it, I think that would be a huge project but the end result would be sweeeeet.

Yak, this is a jaw dropper! You have dona an amazing job transforming this into the RPTJ Rancor. Great sculpting on that shackle then followed but excellent paint work on the entire piece. I would love to have him sitting in my Rancor pit! I hope you don't mind me pointing out one small thing, the sculpted slobber just doesn't work. It is stiff and stationary so it looks like a stick is piercing his gums. You should use some hot glue on his lower gums then make a string of glue that thickness to his finger with it positioned close to the head. When it dries in a few seconds you will have the perfect slobber string after you pull it off the finger. Again, great work this thing is awesome!

that is a great custom rancor, and probably one of the first i've seen,I knew you would do a great shackle and the paint work is awesome.like we've talked about, the time you've put into him shows, and it's really paying off,and would look great in anyones collection.sweeter then yoo hoo.  ;D

And a small update on my Jabba's throne that I'm working on, I made a sweet Salacious crumb custom that I think came out perfect. I made it using parts from the Power of the Jedi Ammanaman pack in and custom sculpted the rest.

don't you just love that.when someone sees something awesome or yours, but just needs a slight tweak, and lets you know,it helps a lot, otherwise they wouldn't have said anything.I got some great advice from Doc outlands here, and my mando already looks better.the Rancor drool does look better, and our customs can always use some improving.I go back to mine even after I think thier done when I get something new,and bring them back to the drawing board until I'm 100% happy.still can't wait to see that thing finished.

Yeah I love that Hasbro can usually get 80% of the figure looking great and I can add the extra 30% to make it 110% awesome! I can't wait to show you more of what I have going on with my Jabba but it's a bit too early for pictures if you ask me. Again this site and community make me want to push myself to do better and it's a great pay off to hear all the feedback and comments. More custom goodness to come so stay tuned! P.S. would anyone want some modeling tips/painting tips from me? Been thinking of doing some tutorials but I'm not sure if people would dig, let me know.

Okay so I have one more tiny update with my Jabba theme customs, I'm not really sure how this site handles nudity so I sensored my work. So if it's cool to let Oola's goods show I will update with a XXX pic but not until I get the okay! LOL

Yes! Now that is what I am talking about! Excelent execution on that Rancor drool! haha It really makes a huge difference in the realism department! That Rancor is now...perfect!

Great work on Crumb as well, he looks like he stepped right out of the film!

Oola is looking great and I can't wait to see what you are cooking up for her! The nude figure is no problem as long as you have not painted in her girlie parts. haha
Title: Re: YakFace is now doing custom Star Wars figures!
Post by: RavenEye on November 16, 2011, 12:13:35 PM
Yes the Rancor is superb!

Crumb is excellent! The new additions make him stand out better.

Oola, LOL. She's the first nude 3 3/4 action figure, I bet it was hard to whether or not to post her.

Oola progress shots! I did a bit of chop and sculpt to the head tenticles and extended her neck. I hated how she had a stumpy neck it really took away from the figure in my opinion so I fixed it! And there were a few other tiny details that I added like the chin strap for the headdress and making the "metal" detail on the head stand up more. Tell me what you guys think so far and dont be shy about your real opinions so if you think something just aint working let me know!

The detail work on oola is impressive. Yeah, feel free to post some tutorials if you want. As you can already tell, one of the great parts about our community is that we are here to help each other as well as to drool over each other's work.

Post by: JediMindtrix on November 17, 2011, 02:26:49 PM
 >:( I hate when we have to do things like that.a figure can be near perfect, but something as stupid as having a gimpy hand or a short neck,or swivel arms can ruin them aesthetically, and we have to use all our powers to fix them.ARGH!great job thus far though, and I can speak for all of us to say we're all excited to see how it all turns out.

great work!  I'm loving the oola figure as is everyone else... but I also know how dificult it is to work with sculpy on such a small scale.  Doing those tiny details (even though I can't see them I do have an imagination...) would be incredibly tough to do.

I do have a question for you about the sculpy.  Whenever I've done a small detail like this with aves apoxie sculpt (I know you use green stuff so it may be different) the putty doesn't always bond well with the plastic of the figure and while I'm handling the figure or painting it sometimes the hardened detail pops off the figure!!!  I usually just super glue it back into place and all is well, but I was wondering what the issue might be.  I might need to clean the plastic around the area to sculpt on more? or maybe rough it up with sanpaper to hold the sculpy?

I just couldnt wait to finish all that stuff before I posted some new pictures so again not a final product but pretty close. Tell me what you guys think as I'm really happy with what I've done especially after I saw an old picture of the original toy!

The rancor drool is made from a piece of "stretchy" jewelry string that I then applied "Golden" clear sticky tar gel too. It sounds real tricky when i write it out but basically I got a clear string and put some glop on it!

@Tamer
Dude what on honor to be on the front page again! This site rocks so hard.

Yes. That just cements what custom making is (pun intended I guess?) the "love" we put into our work. I have to make myself stop working for the night sometimes so I can keep my sanity/not ruin my posture ;) Awesome water pipe stand. I especially like the control panel.

@ActionFigEmpire

Totally, so many times when I'm all into a project that I look up and see that it's 3:00AM. Not enough time to sit and make tiny Star wars figures......ever. And yes the control panel is what makes this piece come to life, can't wait to get it all done.

I hate how the box advertises that Jabba has a super articulated tail, when if you bend it it looks like it got smashed between a rock and an SUV!

@The Mandalorian: LOL yeah the tail movement blows on Jabba, that was the first thing to go when i got it. I'm trying to work out a way to "stuff" the body so it doesn't smash up when you bend the tail.

@Wookie-Balls: Thanks for the compliments! I can't wait to show you the end results.

@JLaban4: Thank you!

@Luke Sprywalker: Thanks man I'm really trying to get it all together as fast as I can so i can post up the pics.

This looks fantastic. Love your work on the Rancor so far, reminds me of the work done by JediJJep and NewBornAlex (from Rebelscum). You might want to check out NewBornAlex's stuff, he's a man who is very thorough in researching reference material.

And who doesn't like female Twi'leks?! Man, Oola looks sensational! Keep up the great work!

TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY...

Stuff the tail with (Clean) Toilet Paper till you can't stuff it no more. Or maybe paper towels depending on the softness of it. Whatever you use make sure it's soft for better compaction. Hopefully that works.

@ Incom:Thank you for the big compliments on my stuff! I'm glad all the time I put into researching shows, I love trying to get as close as I can to what was shown in the movies. I will totally check out the guys you mentioned so thanks for the tip!

@ Orangepeace: I do take that seriously, I had Jabba stuffed with a pair of old socks until my wife asked me what I was doing? I said "stuffing this Jabba with socks so he doesn't look like a smashed piece of crap?" she then told me that was some ghetto custom! LOL!!!! So she recomend that I use cotton batting instead and I think thats what I'm gunna use but if that does not work I'm all about using TP on Jabba!

Jabba did a pretty good job of stuffing his face in ROTJ with those wriggling little frog creatures. Gonna sculpt some of those? Technically don't they go in the bottom half of the water pipe? Or in another clear glass globe near the water pipe?

THis is so incredibly sick! Once it's complete, could you please get to work overhauling the rest of Hasbro's half-way decent ideas? Another thing that came to mind is stop motion shorts... either recreating classic scenes or re-imaginings ah-la robot chicken stunning work. As I've said to Spry, and a few other Yarders, "your work inspires us to push that much harder at our work" :)

Okay so I have been sort of MIA for a bit. I have been pretty busy with work and of course having a one year old is no part time job either! Well enough about that and onto the customs I have been finding the time to work on. First up is a Boba Fett I started, I wanted to give him a personal sorta look instead of the generic "clone" guy head Hasbro gave him. So here is my take so far on what Boba Fett should look like under the helmet. Second figure I have been working on is slave Leia, I have done alot of work trying to make the perfect version of this figure and Im also making a removable costume for her. I wont post anything to naughty on her but I thought that you guys would appreciate the work I have been doing on this fig. And last but not least is Jabba the Hutt this guy is actually finished so enjoy that! Hope you guys dig my stuff and I plan on doing more updates soon!! 0//

Okay so I have been pretty busy with work and my family lately, but I still manage to find some time for customs. First off I want to say thanks for all the great comments on my last Fett, Tamer thank you for the front page again always an honor. So enough of that and on to my latest Boba Fett custom, its my ultimate version of Fett from Return of the Jedi! This thing took alot of work to make it "work", the helmet is custom made from a vintage snowtrooper helmet and the Pit of carkoon Fett. The helmet was by far the hardest part to build, it had alot of problems staying together when I was sculpting over it and making it fit over the head properly. I also made a last minute choice to increase the leg height after talking with JediMindTrick but the end result came out perfect to me so thanks for the feedback Ken. So enjoy the pics and please all feedback is very welcome.

JediMindtrix: Sorry homie I was in a rush! Thanks for the comments and of course your honest opinions.

So Im going to post up some wip shots that I took on how I made my Fett helmet. Im at work right now otherwise I would take a shot of my custom helmet next to the vintage Fett helmet so you guys can see just how much bigger mine is. I think you will at least get an idea of how I got this thing to work, it is held together with Super glue, green stuff, and about 50 "F - bombs". Haha!

Post by: YakFace on April 18, 2012, 11:44:26 AM
The white parts are from a vintage snowtrooper helmet that I cut up to achieve a larger dome so my custom head sculpt could fit inside the helmet. I used the pit of carkoon Boba Fett head for the front and back of the helmet. After I bashed the parts together I dremeled out the insides and used Kneadatite (green stuff) to add a smooth finish over the helmet. The side details are all sculpted by hand using green stuff as well as the rim that goes around the backside.

Post by: YakFace on April 25, 2012, 11:21:02 AM
Thank you guys for all the great feedback on Fett. I have completed my next figure in my Return of the Jedi series Im working on. Good old Bib Fortuna, I did some minor tweaks to him like I resculpted is mouth and teeth along with making his "Leku" seamless by sculpting over them. I aslo didnt like his belly sash that used to hold his knife so I cut that off and sculpted my own that lays flat instead of sticking out. Then I just repainted the whole figure and ended up with what you see here. Enjoy! P.S. All my pictures expand when you click on them!!!!

Beautiful work on Bib Fortuna. It looks so much better than any version by Hasbro that I've seen. Before I read what you wrote, I thought this was done by Sideshow, or at least not a 3 3/4" scale, but a 12" version.

@ Mandalore the skepsis: Thanks man! Like I said before he used to look like some fat woman screaming so Im glad I was able to improve it.
@ Tamer: Thank you sir!!!
@ r1bb1t: Wow thanks for the praise! Thats a huge compliment to be compared to Sideshow and if you have a hard time guessing the scale right away that makes me smile. ;D

Ok so I have been busy working on my Return of the Jedi series and next up is a proper Jabbas Palace Luke. This figure was made from the VC Endor captive Luke, the tunic was all hand sculpted using kneadatite (Green Stuff). The bone he his holding was made from green Stuff and a paper clip and the rest is just a really nice paint job which helped more than I would have thought. Im really happy with this figure so far I'm still working on making a nice soft goods cloak for him. Enjoy!!! P.S. click the pics for a larger view!

more pics! ;D Also I didn't really pose him to well in these shots but his legs didn't loose much articulation due to the added tunic flaps. I will update again when I finish his cloak and lighsabers!

That is a great custom!  Maybe it's the angle you shot him at, but his head looks ever so slightly bigger than it should for that frame... maybe it's the poofy hair.

WOW! now that I have just scratched the surface (excuse the pun) with sculpting I can really appreciate this custom. A classic figure and a really great piece of customizing.

I'm inspired!

@smeagol92055: Thank you! Its odd that his head looks so big in these shots, it really doesnt look like that in hand so it must be the angle. I will try and take better pics when I finish up his cloak and sabers.

@HangerBay94: Cool to hear that you are inspired to do more sculpting, Im sure you will get the hang of it and take off. Your work has really improved lately and I'm looking forward to what the future holds for your custom work.

I have a question about Luke's hands. Did you switch them out? It looks like the ball joints have totally disappeared. Are those VC04 Luke's hands by chance?

Got a few simple customs done over the weekend. I did some minor sculpting on each of these guys but mostly repaints. For Wooof I cut the holster off and sculpted over the missing area and J'Quille had some seems on his chest the I covered by matching his fur with some sculpting. Enjoy guys and thanks for all the awesome comments and feedback!

Very nice work. Woof looks like he just stepped off set, and I agree, never seen a pic of him with a holster. J'quile looks much better with the seamless chest hair! Now what would make him perfect would be to replace the lower arms with Wookie Warrior arms then put his hands back on. Just an idea, I plan to do that one day as well a articulating his lower legs the same way.

Very nice work on those goons and glad to see some lovin' for the creatures in Jabba's palace. Despite the obvious latex masks and hands in those scenes, it still remains one of my favourite sequences of the saga.

Just occured to me, J'Quille looks a lot like David Carradine.... or Lee van Cleef :)

Thank you guys for all the amazing compliments on my work, I have some new work to share today. I did a straight up repaint of the Ewok chair C3P0, not the best sculpt of 3P0 but I think the paint helped alot. I did cut out the space between the arms and the little rods that connect his arm joints but other than that not much work done. But now onto the real custom I want to show you guys, my Bomarr Monk! This was alot of fun to make, I always wanted the little brain bowl to have a light in it so thats just what I did. I set a small red LED into the top of the brain bowl and carefully sculpted over it to help hide it. I ran all the wires through the inside of the body by dremeling a little hole so I could feed them up into its (butt?) sack. Once I did that I cut the bottom off the butt and used a "watch" battery holder as the base which slips into the butt piece. There is a little switch that allows the LED to be turned off and on so I dont have to open up the figure to remove the battery. Well hope that makes sense if not I took a bunch of pics to help understand what the hell Im talking about. ;D

As always click the pics to expand!

Title: Re: YakFace: new update 9/05/2012 New Yarna d'al' gargan.
Post by: YakFace on September 05, 2012, 02:07:13 PM
Wow it's been a few months since I have posted anything new, well I feels good to be posting again! Here is my WIP of Yarna from Jabba's palace, this project has been pretty fun I must say. I did however have some drama with her "peg" which actually snapped off inside her torso when i attempted to reconnect the figure. Well I totally dropped some colorfull language and then cut a screw in half and jammed it into her lower half. Of course its never that easy so I needed to dremel out a larger hole for it to fit which led to me drilling a hole through her chest.  >:( So after much cursing and being really pissed off it came came together and now Im almost finished with her. Oh and I'm sure you want to know what the skirt is made from, I used a "cheese cloth" and cut that to size and carefully cut some holes in the figures original waist band to attach it. Then a little paint wash and colored thread woven through it and I created what I think is the perfect mini Yarna skirt. So enjoy the pics.  ;D

@Spry: Yeah she is waaay ugly, thats why I love her character just greasy and fat.

@Rogue82: Thank you! And the dio is a future plan to hold all of my goons and beasts. I'm just starting with the figures first because I do have some display cases in my house and I think it will take a bit longer to get the proper space for a large scale Jabbas palace. But one day it will happen!

That's really cool. All of your customs are really neat. I can't wait to see this one finished.

I'm more of a dio builder than a figure customizer, but I will be attempting to build a fat character to go with the current dio I am building. I'm thinking of starting with a Malikili then plumping him up a bit to give him a grotesque shape. Any tips on applying the "sculpy", drying, painting, etc?

Its a "smugglers" gonk droid, the idea is that you could use this droid to descreately deliver illegal goods by placing them iside it's body. I was thinking this could be the reason why in Jabbas palace that poor gonk droid was being tortured in the dungeon, maybe he had a bunch of drugs inside of him! Well tell me what you guys think, it's not finished but the idea is there so enjoy.

Hey Brent,I haven't been posting for a grip or even working on any customs...shame on me I know lol,but I'll get around to it soon enough.I Hadn't seen the Yarna yet till now,and boy am I loving it.Like you I'm a huge fan of improving figures Hasbro makes us that are really good, except for the little things that bug me,such as the yarna figure, and the fact that she didn't have a cloth skirt to begin with, but boy did you git 'er done, and I'm loving it.You always manage to inspire me in that way to keep looking at my most prized figures, and say to myself"Wait, this could be improved."My only problem is that I do have a hard time doing that with some of my favorite figures. If I only have the one I'm torn between customizing them,or leaving them be as is,but if they need to be improved, and I feel I'm up to the challenge, then I'm willing to take the risk of botching my work for a much needed upgrade on certain figures.Like I was saying though, keep up the great work, and hope to see more upgraded figures from you soon.Hit me up so maybe we can swap ideas & such like the old days so you can keep me motivated lol.Peace out brohem.

Only the ruthless and pragmatic survived; those who chose sympathy and idealism either ended up dead
or worse. It was the initial line that Nexu told herself, some sort of mantra she developed to remain
focused when stalking her targets as well keeping more sinister, darker thoughts out of her mind.

Her eyes drifted to her ally of convenience, a young red-haired woman named Phoenix who had similar
origins to herself. Forced into prostitution and freed by the blade of a powerful warrior – both had
lived a harsh life due to the Black Suns gang. The only difference between them left her with a dreadful
thought – would she too suffer the same fate as her master?

A low, guttural growl made the question vanish from her mind; she noticed that her pet, Muezza, had
snuck up behind the Duros alien who seemed to be enjoying whatever he was smoking a little too
much. Forever a loyal guardian to her, Muezza brought back more memories of Nexu’s masters and to a
different time – a time that she wanted to forget. She reminded herself again – sympathy is for the weak
and idealism will get you killed. Her master made that mistake and she planned to not repeat it.

The growl had alerted the man, but the Duros’ demeanor remained undisturbed. He welcomed the
two female travelers plus their ‘lovely’ pet with a warm, genuine greeting; one so genuine that it would
convince those who heard it that there wasn’t a blade pressed against his neck when he said it. The
females were looking for Black Suns and he would help them, in exchange for his life of course. This was
quite easy for him in fact, he knew where several Black Suns strongholds were – it was part of the job of
being a Black Suns spy. With a plan already in mind, Dakuan would wait for when the moment was right
and eliminate these two lone warriors and their disgusting creature.

Nexu and her companion, Phoenix, were both startled by his rather indifferent attitude towards their
threats. The opportunity to find the Black Suns holdout was too good to pass up even if Dakuan may
be hiding something. They decided to let him live for now. If he were to try something… Muezza could
always use an extra meal.

Thank you guys for all the comments and anyone who voted on my squad! I have a little update today that invovles a metal bikini, I present slave Leia. So this was a figure I started some time ago and had some troubles with. But to cut to the point I used the VC slave Leia as my base and built a nude figure out of it using green stuff to sculpt. The head is a mix of the VC Leia head and the VC Hoth Leia head with some sculpted elements to bind them together. After I managed to do this I also raised her leg height and a few other little details to improve on the original release of the figure like the addition of metal earings and a hand sculpted slave collar. The whole metal bikini is scratch built using wire and green stuff and is also removable.  ;) Enjoy!

PM me if you really want this.

Post by: YakFace on November 19, 2012, 05:59:36 PM
@ghostskull18: Ahh yes that is the tricky part. I actually wrap the figure in plastic wrap and get it nice and tight over the figures form and simply sculpt over it. After that just let the green stuff set up over night and carefully remove it from the plastic wrap. And bingo you have a perfectly molded piece that fits the figure.

Oh my Brent, excluding sithfire30's work, this is one of the most beautiful female action figures I have ever seen. That head mash up/resculpt/repaint is amazing! You have done some brilliant work here. Her body looks great too, I like the stock figure but man is it a funky body for a female. You have made it what it should have been. Then the removable bikini just blows me away! You can really tell you have put your heart and sole into this work of art!

@Luke Sprywalker: Mmmmmhmmm thank you. Being among the ranks of Dayton is no small task so I appreciate that you think my work is close to that level. I poured alot of love into this figure and mr Sithfire30 was my bench mark of quality. Im really intersted in making unique features like the removable bikini as I have never seen it done before. I also did a similar technique with my contest figures, I didn't show that aspect due to the nudity but their "tops" also come off. I'm working on creating more of my own custom parts and would like to start moving away from using stock pieces. And yes totally the original slave Leia is a big "NO" in my book. She looks more like a short Italian woman rather than smoking hot Carrie Fisher. Thank you again for the high praise.

I just want to take a moment and say Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. And, if you will allow me to share (via my faith and worldview) this is one of the most special times of the year, at least to me. I am truly thankful to God above for His grace, mercy and salvation. He has richly blessed my life. I have the blessing of an amazing wife, beautiful children, and a loving family.  I am also thankful that I live in this great nation. I hope you have a chance to take a moment today and look at your life and reflect on how fortunate you are. I also want to make a statement to the ISYs in general that even though we don't all know each other personally and face-to-face, I am thankful that in our hobby we have a common place to share our creations with one another. Happy Thanksgiving enjoy some turkey!!!

My wife helped me create a soft goods cloak for my Jedi Luke and I wanted to share a product I use with you guys. "GAC 400" it's usually used to create a stiff canvas surface for painting but it's really amazing if you need to make a small scale piece of cloth look realistic. I usually dont like soft goods on my 1/18th scale figures because it never looks convincing and ruins the illusion of scale. But using GAC 400 will drasticly reduce these effects and allow you to "sculpt" your cloth into many different forms to achieve realistic folds and sags that help give it "weight". Well just take a lok at my Jedi cloak and decide for yourself.
Title: Re: YakFace: new update 11/26/2012 Jedi Cloak and GAC 400 tips.
Post by: YakFace on November 26, 2012, 03:04:47 PM
Now if your still reading I will give some advice on how to use this amazing product. First thing make sure your "cloth" item is made of a natural fiber like cotton and not a synthetic. I have tried this on a Hasbro "P.O.S" cape and totally ruined it, this stuff will make if look like there is a clear gloss over the fabric. So using a natural fiber material is the only way to go. Now that you understand that detail the first step is soaking your material in water. I usually run the soft goods under the tap water for a bit but I have also used a paint brush for more controled areas. Next you will take a paint brush and get a fair amount of the GAC 400 on it and carefully brush it into the fabric. You will need to make sure that its soaking into the fabric and gettinga nice even spread. The water will really help soak in the GAC 400 and insure you dont apply to much which will cause the fabric to really stiffen up. After you painted on your GAC 400 to the areas you want I suggest placing the cape onto your figure so you can get a good pose. Just work the fabric over the figure and try to get some of the figures form to show through by pressing in against it. Create sharp creases by pinching with your fingers or binding it with a rubber band. For my Jedi robe I placed it over my Luke and wrapped a rubber band around the figure and cloak. Let it dry and enjoy. Hope this helps you guys out.

That's two tips in just a short run of posts - the wrap-her-in-plastic method for sculpting onto a fig and now the making-scale-cloth-fit-right!  Now... you say it gives a gloss finish to synthetics?  I'm wondering...I have this ribbon I just bought today to try it as a belt-making material.  It is 100% polyester.  I'm wondering if your stuff might not give the look of glossy leather that would be desirable on a belt.  Where do you find this GAC 400?

Now I'm tempted to get some tight-weave cotton and try making a few cloaks...

So first question the "ribbon", I think you could easily achieve your leather look using this stuff on some polyester ribbon. Next question where did I purchase my GAC 400, I get mine at a local fine arts warehouse so if your in the Orange County area the place is called "Art Supply Warehouse". But if you are not in my area and don't have a local art store my first place I would go is Michaels art & craft, there are a few of these stores near me that carry "Golden" art supplies. I have never seen this particular product being sticked on the sales floor but that doesn't mean that can't special order it for you. If that fails you can do a quick Google search on the web and find a few art supply shops that carry it. Here is a link to a retailer online thats has it, http://www.dickblick.com/products/golden-gac-400-fabric-stiffener/ Hope this helps you out Doc it's a really cool thing to add to your arsenal.

Finished up my Kithaba, I reworked his legs to get rid of that "squeezed" look and moved some parts around to make him screen accurate. Also added alot of sculpted elements to this figure I have some WIP shots I will post later but I remade his bandana "tails", ammo pounch on his bandolier, belt loops, stripes down the sides of his pants, fixed all areas that I removed/moved, reworked his face a bit too. After all that I repainted the entire figure and bam I have a screen accurate Kithaba. I posted some screens I used for ref and a shot of the original figure to help show some of the mods I did to the figure. Enjoy!

Thank you Spry, I used only the stock Kithaba for parts all mods are done using Green Stuff. For the legs I carefully cut them off at the place where the "clear" the crotch and left the hip area that swivels intact. Then I placed them further apart and dremeled off the extra plastic then sculpted over it. I should have taken more pics as I was building it but hopefully that makes sense.

Wow I'm back after 3 years almost to the day! Its been a busy few weeks on the workbench, I picked up an old project and injected new skills and ideas into it! I'm proud to share my progress with the soon to be my first action figure kit of the original Sysnootles. I started this as a personal project and now it has become something other people can enjoy in their collections. Enough talk go check it out!

More Sy goodness! I have a bunch of parts ready to mold so updates will be rolling in. Soon enough  I will have my first prototype build, I will remake all the molds and use my pressure  pot to cast the limited batch of these for sale. I will have an idea of cost after I finish my proto build.

Tamer thank you for posting my work  it feels good to be back making toys again!
Stan, I will keep you posted as I get further into this project on when and  how much I will be able to offer Sy.
MrJedi1977, I'm glad your looking forward to my return into showing Hasbro how to treat this toy line. And I'm surprised to hear that my Laudica is the figure you enjoy the most so far, such a random character but thats the same reason I like her. I'm thinking of casting a kit of her too, I already molded the head.
Thanks again guys and I will update in the next couple days!

Thank you Jaeger45! So I  just started messing around and sculpted a 1:18th scale melted Vader helmet, actually came out really cool. Check it I am casting these right now for another project but they would rock in a diorama. Let me know if anyone is interested in one, I'm asking $10 unpainted.
