Title: ISY's October Spooktacular Customizing Event!
Post by: Luke Sprywalker on October 20, 2011, 04:09:44 AM: Hot off the heels of Clint's awesome Mando contest we bring you another customizing event for the Halloween season!

You do need to be a member here at the yards and you must have 10 posts under your belt to enter. Starting October 20 and entries are due in by October 31st at midnight. This one is wide open guys and gals, your entry simply needs to relate to Halloween in some form. You could make a figure that is wearing a costume, cross over a Star Wars character with a Horror film character, Zombies or Death Trooper, so many possabilities! This one is open to any verse, Marvel, Transformers, GI Joe, Star Wars, anything that you want to use will work. We are also allowing photoshoped entries for the first time. You can do a virtual custom if you don't have the fodder available of just create a background. We are also open to any scale figure from Micro figures to life size or 1 to 1 scale. We would like to see your 6 best pictures submitted and it does need to be a new custom not posted on the web before. This one should be a lot of fun and yield many diverse entries! Hang on to your mask and let's see what you come up with!

I am really into the Myan culture and the art from that period. I am trying to do a Star Wars X Myan crossover. I hope to have some pics this weekend, I showed the WIP to Jules and to quote him, "Man that is just mental!" Any one else care to share their plans or a WIP pic?

Love the parts you chose as they are perfect for that haunting look! Nice job sculpting that hat and the paint work really brings it all together. Glad to see some entries coming in so quickly. I finished my entry up last night and hope to mok up a quick scene to photograph by the end of today. Keep those entries coming in guys!

Post by: lucasclones on October 24, 2011, 10:55:27 AM: LE have you seen Apacalypto? They are tated head to toe and have piercings and jewelry galore. Especially the Shamans and royalty. All the art was very well researched for that movie to make the Mayans look absolutely as accurate as possible. You should try to include some sort of panther motif in their since that is their most spiritually sacred animal. I am huge Mayan buff as well. I have lots of art book on them. This is one of the coolest origianl works i have seen. I love the use of the fisto head to be used as a head dress. What is the base figure? Is it one of the "mayans" from Crystal Skull? I have kicked my self hundreds of times for not getting as many of those as I could!

Chad thanks buddy. Yes I am a huge fan of Myan Art, past and present. Also love the movie Apocalypto, just watched it last week when I got the idea for this custom. This is actualy me dressed up in Star Wars x Myan ceremonial gear. So I am trying to mesh the two rather than straight copy anything. That is a great idea for including a panther, not sure I can add that element know but will concider it as I am still kicking around what to do to complete this figure. Are you familure with the artist Chris Dyer? He is an awesome visionary artist and a friend of mine. He did a board graphic for my skate company and is such a spiritual and revolutionary guy. You should check him out...

The BIG news is Tamer has donated a Ponda Baba figure from the vintage line as prize for this event! Thanks to him and we will work out the details of the winner in the next few days. We started with this $5 helmet from the thrift store, added a visor and gave it the treatment we needed for our character.

Picked up this Spy Kids Binoculars for $1 at the thrift store and gave it the treatment. I added a clip off another toy so it can attach to his belt.

I wish I knew where that blaster comes from. It looks like something from SW. I want to do a repaint of that Boba Fett blaster like Clonehead is doing.

This all started with a little "torturing" then complete coverage with an all black base coat then all colors were applied by hand/brush.
No factory paint or plastic can be seen.
