It's that time again, folks................
Announcing the Imperial Shipyards "Build a Custom Mando Contest"

Starting today, Sept 19 to run through Oct 19, We put the challenge to you custom builders to create your best custom mando figure. Repaint, scratch build, kitbash, or sculpt your figure together and post pics of it in this thread. WIP pics and commentary are welcome but the post that contains your completed entry must say "this is my entry" somewhere within it and contain no more than 5 pics.

Any scale or line of figures or parts will be accepted but please, no dioramas, vehicles, supporting figures/beasts, or photo editing will be allowed. Figure must be an all-new creation and can't have been posted here or anywhere else in the past. Only 1 entry per member, please. All entrants must have at least 10 postings in our regular forums. After the ending date of the contest, voting for the grand prize winner will begin. No cheating or vote padding allowed. "we will know"

There are two prizes to play for here. One will be a random draw from all of the entrants where the winner will get a loose TAC Animated Debut Boba Fett figure shipped to his or her address. This random draw will occur after the closing date of the contest.

The grand prize winner will be chose after the completion date of the contest in a voting thread which will last a week and will be subject to a vote-off in the event of a tie. The grand prize for this contest is to be the new Hasbro redemption prototype armor Boba Fett figure.
Winner must understand that this prize is subject to Hasbro's distribution of this redemption figure, including any delays or possible early endings of the promotion "We have to wait for it to show up." I have mailed off for one and assume that it will arrive close to if not after the ending date of this contest. Hasbro has cashed the check so hopefully, it's on it's way.

Worth playing for?  Lets see you build your best custom mando figure.

UPDATE: the grand prize has been delivered to me and is just waiting to be won by one of you. It's on now!

Hats off to our Clonehead for organizing this and explaining everything down to the smallest detail. Sounds great Clint and thank you for organizing and contributing the prizes for this contest.

I would love to see someone make that new Owl Faced Gal TCW Mando that we saw in the new TCW Trailers. I even have a kit bash somewhere if I can recall and might just take a stab at some paint I like the sound of this so much.

Hrrrmmm, after Walon, Vau, my Mando Commander, Mando Sniper, Sandalorian, Dandalorian, and Aurra Sing in Mando Armor, I'm going to have a tough time coming up with new material! Seems like a great challenge though!

The last Mando I created was for Eli during the Toy Drive. This new one I created some time after. Dad gave me this action figure for practice as a way for me to learn different painting techniques. First it was just simple paint application, trying to stay in the lines and pick matching colors for the figure, but after, Dad taught me how to do some weathering with my Grievous figure, and then I had to try it on my Mando too.

Ok, I want to enter this awesome contest but I have a question: I have recently gotten a commission for a cusotm Mando figure from someone. I am collecting parts for it as I write this. Even though this is a commission piece may I still enter it? I have not begun to create it yet and was actually going to start it tonight.... Oh and the design of the figure will be all from my own ideas as well.

Chad, I'm sure that's fine since you can even post WIP shots.

Sounds cool to me, Chad. You haven't posted it here or anywhere else.

Here is the little teaser wip of what I have barely started.

I like the bare armed burly look of that latest blue ee comic pack mando so it kind of inspired me to use this guy as a base figure to start with.
The chest armor is a trimmed down resin casting of the Deluxe jango chest armor piece that I still need to trim on some.
The two helmet pieces are the back half and visor from a resin atrt driver helmet, "the other half of which I am using on a figure I am working on in my custom figures thread" and the front half of a ee mando resin b'arin apma helmet.

Off to a great start on mine; I thought I'd have a terrible time coming across supplies for it, but, turns out I had most of what I needed right here at home.  I'd love to show WIP pics, but, it's probably a bit too early for that.  Maybe tomorrow...  I've got quite a bit of knife work to do, anyhow.

Actually, here are some WIP shots.  The sketch is going to be my guide for this one, which is pictured in the first shot.  (I'm not sure on the armor paint scheme yet, where there's green at.)

I've gotten to work on the plume/brush thing atop his head, which, when I'm done, I'm hoping will resemble the Spartan King Leonidas I.  It's tedious work as I have to lay in each bristle, by hand, so, this one will take a lot more work before I'm completely happy and done with it.  (Not looking forward to doing the other side, really, but, I'm sure it'll look great when finished.)  And, I know it needs trimmed, lol.  It's wild, as is...

Yeah, it's a trip, creating those, as well as attaching them.  I finshed 'em up today, and FINALLY found a way to put them on that I'm happy with, so, I'll have pics after I paint the helmet I'm attaching them to...

Pretty cool Mando!  I always thought those Skorr legs were a bit too short for any figure, but they really don't look bad at all on this guy.  Nice parts selections!

Thanks JEDIMERC. I had the same concern about the legs, they are rather short, but Skorr's torso is very tricky to change the legs, so i chose to leave them.  By the way! My first front page. Can you see the smile on my face!!!!! Thanks Tamer.

Ariatne's a formidable woman in all regards -- extremely intelligent, incorruptible, passionate and beautiful, with a great devotion to war and the old ways of the mandalorian combat

Her name is Ariatne Kryze was a another genetical experiment of the kaminoans mixing the DNA's from Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jango Fett it was supposed to be male but a without the extra genome "Y" on the fecundation progress the zygote turns into a female nine months later the kaminoans realized about they mistake but it was to late to stop the process, one year after that the empire storm the kamino cloning facilties  destroying most of their experiments  unborn and babies too, but Boba Fett had compassion for the little girl and take her to Mandalore there the ducthess Satine adopted her and knowing that her was the unofficial "daugther" of Obi-Wan do not hesitate to give her last name to the baby and while the duchess was taught the ideals of peace and justice Ariatne always thought in fighting to achieve her objectives and goals, with the dead of his adoptive mother brought a great civil war between mandalorians and deathwatch there was where he showed all her potential she and her real Mandalorians in a surprise move they killed all the leaders of the clans without them her campaign of mandalorian unification was a complete success after that she declared herself  Mandalore the Avenger.

Well I'm sure everyone is wondering if I'll get in on this...  I won't be ariving back home until at the latest october 11th.  If I'm going to work on one I guess I better think of an idea before I get home so I can get started right away!

I'm not sure if I have any ideas that I haven't done already...  I'll have to realy mull over this project to think up something I can do relatively easily and quickly once I return home.

Although... due to cost I'm actually considering getting out of the hobby for a while.  this might be the last big hoorah that you see from me...

Ghost, as per the rules, you need to kill that vehicle pic and replace it with another one without a vehicle if you want.
Sorry.

What could be better than a Mandalorian Custom Contest??? Not much! I admit I started my entry by piecing together lots of bits from various figures in my usual kit-bash style and produced a Mandalorian pirate king, but I wasn't all that excited about him. So I put him aside and didn't think about it for a few days. Then late on night it hit me. Combining some of my favorite Star Wars/fanboy things: Female characters, Mandalorians, Boba Fett, cosplay, and of course a bit of ingenuity. A female Boba Fett! If you've been to the cons you may have seen a female cosplayer who is referred to as "Babe-a Fett". There are varying costumes out there of girl-Fetts and so I hit google to see what other custom makers had done in creating her. Well after 30 minutes of web and image searching and lots and lots of different keywords I found only one 3D representation of a Female Boba and it was a non articulated statuette. As far as I know this is the first and only custom female Boba Fett figure out there so far. (I'm sure I'm wrong and someone has one but hasn't posted anything online, or I overlooked it. Please prove me wrong!) But according to google, this is quite possibly a first. So I busted out the paint and the super glue and began to chop and splice together parts from 2 different Boba Fetts and a GI Joe Agent Helix. Maybe I'll start doing fully painted customs more often, you never know!

I am thrilled to see so many amazing Mandos created for this contest! As far as customs go, custom Mandos are possibly the most drool-worthy!

(also just FYI my camera's date is off. Obviously it's not November 2009. This custom was photographed today. Sorry for any confusion!)

Without further ado, I present Boba Femm aka Babe-a Fett:

Really nice entries guys! AFE you have stepped your game up with this female Mando! Combining Joe and SW parts isn't the easiest thing to do and a good amount of paint work including some skin! Nice work!

Thanks Spry! Glad you like her. I figured it was time to bring my A-Game lol. I am happy to announce that I will be offering a limited number of these for commissions! Completely free of charge. Anyone interested just needs to send me 1 Boba Fett figure and 1 Agent Helix figure. You pay shipping, everything else is free. I really want to see these go to people who love mandos as much as I do! I already have 2 awaiting production for friends/fans.

Title: Re: September 2011 Build a Custom Mando Contest
Post by: spudafett on September 28, 2011, 05:20:12 PM
AFE, consider that figure stolen and reproduced as soon as I get the chance!  I love it!  absolutely perfect.  Theres a few things I'd tweak in the design of the figure, mainly the meeting of the boba legs and the knees of the joe figure.  I would have cut the legs of the boba figure below the knee pad and then joined them there. By itself I think it looks fine, but the legs do seem a little lanky to me and I'd like to see it compared to the height of a normal joe helix figure and a normal boba fett figure for comparison.

also I'd probably do some dremel work to the chest to smooth out the "skin" that's showing.  I did this with a helix figure early on that I have posted somewhere here I'm sure... I just don't remember where.

but yeah, I definately like what I'm seeing and I personally don't know of any other "starbucked" boba fett customs other than the one you mentioned (the static pvc model).  I know that myself and others have used joe parts to make custom female mandalorians, just never in the boba fett color schemes.

I love the addition of the shoulder pads from an actual boba figure glued onto the shoulders, the placement and the way the rest on the figure is pretty seamless, i didn't even notice they were the boba figure's until I looked at it a second time!

EDIT:
Found the image of my helix that I modified the way I mentioned above by dremeling some of the chest and sculpting a more "feminine" physique.  Just thought I'd hijack the thread a bit and show what I was trying to explain.  This by no means is an entry to the contest!

Okay, this is going to be a tough contest, the competition is already - wow.
I've got all necessary parts for my entry together now, dry-fitting is done and all that remains now is giving the figure a nice paintjob.
He will be a fully poseable, super-articulated figure, of course. Action-oriented like a Mandalorian should be.
Title: Re: September 2011 Build a Custom Mando Contest
Post by: ActionFigEmpire on September 28, 2011, 11:20:32 PM
Thanks for all the awesome insights Spuda! I'm glad you approve! As I went along I realized a lot of ways to make the figure better. I actually prefer the fact that she's taller than fett and most other Star wars figures. I will be making a small run of these figures and numbering each one. I already have a plan for the legs. I actually made some incorrect measurements and cut too soon and had to repair what I did with some salvaged fodder from the fett and helix figures. This was my rough draft and I love the way it came out. The "skin" on the chest looks a bit rough because of the paint I used. Anyway I plan on making more of these and improving them as they go. Over all I'm thrilled as to how she came out. I haven't made a full custom figure in years.

How about instead of stealing her and making your own, why not let me make you one, free of charge. I will implement all the mods you suggested and those I thought of along the way to completing this version. Basically I will re-engineer the legs, and use a more slick smoother paint as well. I know imitation is the sincerest for of flattery and all but if it were possible to patent a custom figure, without getting sued by Hasbro and Lucas I'd patent this lady, being the first one out there and all. I just feel that somehow everyone rushing out and making their own versions detracts from this original, but I guess i can't stop people from doing it. I would really like to get a bunch of these into Yarder's hands though and have 2 orders already.

I want to point out that the arms from the shoulder to just below the elbow joints are helix's. Then Fett's gauntlets. With his flamer tubes affixed to helix's arm. Then helix's hands glued to the gauntlets for a more female look. I then painted her hands from GI-JOE black to Fett gray and added white paint for the tops of her gloves like fett's. I also razored off Fett's back-of-the-thigh holster and affixed it to the outer side of her left thigh. I left the original straps and ammo pack as it lent a little bit of a unique flair to the original fett look.

I originally planned on using a TVC Hoth Leia body but she wasn't curvy enough and I was afraid she'd look a bit stocky, too short, and a bit under defined. I chose the agent Helix body partly because of her long legs. She's got such a feminine form and she's tall. Also Boba Fett is one of the shorter figures out there, and I like that about him. I also like that this fem-Fett is tall. We'd lose some of that feminine physique and she'd look a bit stubby. I did consider just giving her fetts entire legs but I'm really glad I didn't lol. As for this figure's anatomy I'd say she's pretty proportionate and not much taller than her initial GI JOE height. The original fett shins lend this kind of neat skin tight jumpsuit that tapers into more baggy flightsuit bottoms for a really cool effect. Who's to say she has to look exactly like fett? I was really concerned about the shoulder pads as they're a but raised and have a notch cut into them where the initial fett ball jointed shoulder is formed. But as you point out they look pretty awesome. Also the belt was a bit stubborn. It needed some repainting too.

I appoligize on my and Spuda's behalf for hijacking this thread lol, I say we take our discussion into PMs if need be.

This whole contest is just so awesome! Thanks for the inspiration!

Awesome idea and I think Jules looked into that for us once, but think the cost was so prohibitive that we dropped it. Still, it might be worth another look if someone wants to work on it. I for one already have way too many projects on my plate, perhaps Cal might have some time to work on this too.

Fifth shot. I do not have a name yet. I have a few ideas about one for her but she is definitely a grim reaper incarnate. I focused on her gear too. She has a regular Z6 jetpack and she has a high altitude jet pack as well. Her guantlets are removable and she has swappable heads, a sword, custom pulse rifle, twin westar blasters and a vibroclaw fitted onto her left guantlet. I will have a full pic spread in my custom thread for those of you that want to see more. I really am in love with this figure and I hope you guys enjoy lookin at her as much as i do ( I just sit looking at her on my desk for moments at a time whenever I sit down to work).

Aah!!! Run away!!! The Angel of Death has come to collect my soul!

Nah, just kidding. Superb work lucasclones, the skeleton effect makes this Mando Woman really scary. (Right in time for Halloween.)

Chad! That is just awesome! Very creative, I love everything about it. All the gear is just great and right up my alley. Really adds so much to this custom. Whatever name you chose should be coupled with "death from above" or something.

LE, I figured you would dig this chick! I am definitely batting around ideas with the Angel of Death theme and will include it in some way. I am thinking of using "Azrael" and "mando-izing" it somehow. (Azrael is the Hebrew name for the death angel of course) I am taking my time because I want her name to be just right. ;)

Well I think the ladies are certainly dominating this contest. That's not to say the mando men aren't giving them a run for their money, but dang if that ain't one awesome figure!

Chad, your custom Mando is awesome! I think it is the perfect paint scheme for a custom made in October. Besides that, your paint apps on her face and helmet are what really impressed me. I also really like the use of the winged Joe jetpack. This competition just got a lot better.  bbfet

I don't think this violates the rules of the contest. Colin Lingus Hobbs wanted to enter and all the posting he is able to do is at this point aimed at FaceBook so I agreed to load the pics he tagged for me here.

This is his entry:

This is my entry. He's got a real cloth vest under his armor. He's got a custom power hammer made by himself.
Please click on pics to see them larger.

Love this guy, CS!  The hammer gives him a more 'thunderous' appeal.  I think the cloth vest is really well done too.  It seems to puff out a bit under his armnor, but hey, we're working with 3 3/4 inch figs, right?

Awesome work!

Title: September 2011 Custom Mando Contest - Jango Taung
Post by: Mungo Baobab on October 05, 2011, 03:26:14 PM
This is my entry for the Mando contest. To be honest, I don't know why I am entering, there are SO many awesome entries already. This was a WIP I had put away for a month or so, but decided to finish it up for the contest.

Clone CC-5774, nicknamed "Clip", left his role in the GAR shortly after Order 66.  Fed up with taking stupid orders from inferior, higher ranking clones, he decided to leave it all behind and go it alone. Clip became a bounty hunter and adopted a new name: Jango Taung. He chose "Jango" as his first name to honor of Jango Fett the "father of all clones" and the last name Taung in reference to the original Mandalorian species. Although his armor color was inspired by that of Jango Fett, he made many obvious variations in order to avoid the appearance of impersonating Fett.

No back story, I am just going to call this guy Mandalorian Warrior.
I am leaving for the lake in an hour. I will post some pics and parts list in my custom figure thread next week. It feels good to make a custom figure for a change and I am proud to display mine with so many of our Members awesome custom mandos. You guys have blown me away with your entries.

well guys I litterally just made it home from my summer away.... only to find that my parents have completely destroyed my customizing space in my room.
apparently they turned my basement room into a spare bedroom while I was away and decided that all my "junk" was too cluttered and threw everything into boxes and shoved it all into my closet...

keep in mind that I am 24... albeit I am living at home... and it was cluttered... but still, they new I was coming back!

long story short is that I have NO IDEA where all my customizing supplies have wound up and it'll take me a month to get things back together the way I had things before.  Not to mention I've got a ton of other more important things to do (like finding a job)...

so yeah...   I won't be able to participate in the contest, or do any customs for a while... but I will keep following the awesome work everyone is putting up!

This is my entry!!!

Presenting Scyrene (Cy-Reen), Mandalorian Battlemaster.

Scyrene is a female Chiss explorer who's vessel was damaged by Imperials while near Mandalore.  Crashing on that planet, she was soon surrounded and attacked by an entire Mandalorian clan.  Scyrene, however, was highly skilled in several forms of combat, from multiple forms of hand-to-hand combat, to mastery of blades and projectile weapons, she quickly massacred the entire clan.    Scyrene built a small settlement on that same ground, using the blood of her attackers to soften up the land to build the foundation to her home.  Several times, she was attacked by raiders, bandits, and as her legend grew, adventurers who sought to make a name for themselves as warriors.  Without equal, she felled them all, adorning her property with their blood soaked buckets on pikes as warning to others.  As she soon came to be known as a Battlemaster, Scyrene eventually adventured into one of the Mandalorian cities in search of their well crafted armor.  Having a suit built for her from scratch, to her specifications, Scyrene takes great pride in her new adornments, so much so that she keeps them as clean as they were when she purchased them.  The only markings on her armor come from her victims, as she uses their blood to keep her helmet stripe and jetpack markings fresh.

Thanks, Clint.  I was having trouble finding a head that worked well, and that Mystique head worked perfect!  I had to hollow out the hole in her head a bit, but it sat on her shoulders well, and the bucket fits over it decently as well.  It fit in with the Chiss species, and since Mandos aren't ONLY from Mandalore, it seemed to be a good idea!  Not 100% about the colors, but I wanted to do a pink one, partly because I had the paint, and partly for October's Breast Cancer Month.

Thanks guys!  Yeah, I'm really happy on how she turned out.  The more I look at her, the happier I am with her.  I think I would have like to create some bare arms for her, but we'll see what happens with that sometime down the road.

damn that figure looks good clint.  I realy wish I could add one of those to my collection.  i guess I need to get off my lazy butt and mail in my redemption forms...
I still haven't sent off one for the missile launching fett either!  do you know if they are still available?

I've been racking my braid for an idea for this project that I can whip up easilly and nothing that I've wanted to do will be possible in the short amount of time I've got left...

I had a permenant WIP mando that I thought might be nice to finish for this contest... but per the rules I didn't think that'd be allowed as an entry.  I've never finished the figure but he has been posted in the WIP stage for nearly 8 months!

Sorry, Devin, it's got to be a new custom as per the rules and can't have been posted anywhere prior to this contest.
The rocket firing Fett redemption ended this spring.

I am really stoked on this contest and all the great entries that are posted! I thought I wound never be able to enter this one as I have very little extra time right now. As luck would have it, it rained a good portion of the afternoon yesterday so I went into my bin of figures I parted out but never finished and grabbed a female Mando I was really stoked on but it involved too many mods and a major helmet mod to produce this character. I spent 2 hours yesterday cutting, dremeling and sanding by hand on this helmet. It looks pretty accurate to the character but is a tad bit too big still. Not much I can do about that at this point because if I trim it any more there won't be much thickness to it and could develope a hole. Today I will move on to painting it and creating the extra bit/gear from scratch. I really hope I can get this done by the deadline!

I don't know if that counts, but it is definitely a good model for a future custom Mando. However, if there were no scale limitations, I am guessing a life size custom is a valid entry.

Presenting one of my most intricate and detailed customs to date, Shae Vizla. Including parts from 4 figures, scratch built gun and many other bits, soft goods belt, I spent two and a half hours just on the helmet with mods and paint, repainted everything for her head sculpt and gave her rosey cheeks. With out further delay, THIS IS MY ENTRY!

Well I guess we need to touch base with the rules again.
Clonedenal, welcome to the shipyards! As per the rules on page 1 of this thread, you need to have 10 posts under your belt in the forums before you can post your entry.

Stenhunter, dude, I love your costume! But it's not a custom figure. Perhaps if you mounted it on a mannequin, it would work. You in a costume just doesn't seem like a scratch built or kit bashed figure as described in the rules.

Sorry folks

Having experienced the effect of the different timezones during my podcast  ;D, I was wondering when the deadline is exactly? I mean, which timezone will you apply for Oct.19th? If it's midnight EST, then that is Oct.20 6 a.m. for me, you see. But midnight Pacific time is something like 9 a.m. on the 20th. Just checking, because I'm cutting it real close here, not intentionally, though  ;D

Here's a final WIP shot of Novoc Vevut. Too clean for a Mando? You got that right, but rest assured, that'll go away!

THIS IS MY ENTRY!

This Mando is based on everyone's favorite Dinobot, Grimlock!

Grimlock, Mando Merc

This shot has no photo-manipulation, I just turned off my light and let the ambient room lighting filter thru the magnifier.

The body is a New Vintage Jango, random G.I. Joe gun, sword and backpack, with ARC Trooper pauldron.  The backpack was chosen because it simulates the "wings" seen in Grimlock's robot mode.

Remco, that is looking freaking sweet! I love that sculpt job on the dreads! I really like the green, olive green, yellow combo. Can't wait to see the final presentation!

Darth Optimus, wow! That is a fine entry! I love the Transformer cross over idea and great paint work on this guy! I really love that backpack, what is it from? That gun mod and cortosis sword is another excelent touch and reinforces the Transformer look very well. Finaly, I love the storage containers in the background! That's a great set of mandos, spuds and jm!
I'll bet that feels goo, devin, to complete a custom after so long.
I like that mixed helmet.

Am I too late?

Just got back from a months holiday in Australia! Over the last two days (with jet-lag  ;D ) I put this Mando together using a $3.00 Dragon Ball Z figure as a base (loved the head sculpt so much I bought two of her!!)

I give you the teenage Mando "Tunaka Shaal" a Journeyman Protector in-training.

Oops - Edited to remove pic of ship - sorry guys (!!)

It's my first ever attempt at a Mando (or a Yards competition.)  The amour is from Clint, softened and moulded for her smaller body using boiling water (I also repositioned her arms using the same method.)

All the best!

Ray

Just get close, Incom, and it will be fine. There is no way that I want to start the voting without this guy in there. Man, I love the colors! do you mind if I put this wip shot on the front page?

No problem Clonehead, go ahead :) I've applied most of the weathering now, just a few more touch ups tonight.

Great to see the final entries coming in! Congrats Spud, that is the first custom you have done in a long while. love the parts you used and that is one flamboyant mando!

Jedimindtrix, great Job on your entry and I agree, sometimes less is more. Nice parts mix and paint work!

Wookie balls, I replied in your customs thread but I think you have done an excelent job bringing that Dragonball Z chick into the star wars verse. I also love that vehicle but keep in mind folks we are only taking submissions for figures. When we do the round up and voting thread we will select a pic without your awesome vehicle.

Great job everyone! Looks like Incom will have completed pics by tonight, anyone else have a last day entry?

it does feel good to have another one finished...  I got lucky and had this one semi-started in my "wip" box and had forgotten about him... of course, when I say started I mean that it was a Destro figure with a boba fett helmet on him!  I didn't explain my parts or the construction earlier cuz it was so late but I'll do that now:

I wound up using two of the Destro figures to complete this custom, the original only comes with one of those shoulder pads.

I used pretty much the entire original destro figure, but replaced the fore-arms with ones from a jodo kast figure.  I removed jodo's original hands however and replaced them with the articulated hands from a clone trooper.

I wish I could say I re-painted the entire figure, but destro already had a red with black camo undersuit on the figure.  I added the yellow after using jodo's arms I realy liked the contrasting yellow armor bits against the red undersuit.  From there I just modified the already existing figure to match.

The removable armor vest did come with the destro figure but did not, of course, include the mando armor plating.  I used a cast resin duplicate of the removable jango armor and trimed up the vest's front to glue it into place.  I used a lighter to soften the cast resin so I could form it around the torso better.

I then took the extra shoulder pad and made attachment points for it on the left shoulder, installed everything and painted away.

The helmet is also a cast resin duplicate of mine.  the front piece (I believe) was trimmed off a failed cast resin arf trooper or scout trooper helmet and then glued onto the mando helmet.  the antenae on the side was a random bit of fodder...  I believe it was an anti-aircraft gun from a small model aircraft carrier I pulled bits and pieces off of before throwing out....

I'm realy happy with the way it turned out.  I wish the paint apps were a little crisper, but they aren't bad for being out of practice for almost 5 months...  It feels good to have a new custom under my belt...  it doesn't feel good to have stayed up till 2:00 in the morning to do it though....!

This is my entry!

Thorn Kord was one of the very few Mandalorian training sergeants, the famous Cuy'val Dar, who actually deployed with his Commandos on Geonosis and fought alongside them in that epic battle.
Called Ever Ready Kord or Old Beskar Breeches behind his back, Kord was both loved and feared by his troops. Being a tough, resourceful and experienced warrior, he shaped the men under his command in his own Supercommando image. All through the Clone Wars, his Rancor Squad set an impressive track record rivalled only by the equally famous Delta Squad.
Kord was mustered out of Republic service after Geonosis, but was called back to cross-train selected Clone troops when casualties among Commando squads became too high.
After the end of the war, Kord returned to Mandalore. His later fate has not been recorded.

This is one of the most awesome-est contests EVAR!  I'm totally diggin' all the entries!

Thanks to everyone for the compliments!  The backgrounds\flooring in my new pics are two old baking sheets.  It was an idea I had one day & just thought I'd try it.  I totally dig how it looks and will be using them in pics from now on...getting away from my plain, white backgrounds.

Man, you guys have really done us proud this time. I totally agree that to see them all together would be an inspiration. These last 3 or 4 entries have me juiced up to make another mando custom. I believe that I will do a female this time.
The clock is ticking, folks, If you are working on yours to get it posted in time, you had better hurry up.

Sorry about the 2am thing, Spud. I am, however, really digging what you put out.

The voting thread will be up tomorrow night, possibly in about 24 hours as I have to work tomorrow.

Once again, I am so proud of you all and am plenty proud of how this contest is literally bringing such killer mandos out of the woodwork!

Hey so on a cool note, I heard back from the costumer known as Babe-A Fett, after I had shared on her facebook page about my action figure version inspired by her idea. Here's what she wrote, "Wow! I just saw this post! For some reason, it was under "hidden posts". The figure is very cool and I feel honored to be the "inspiration"! Thanks so much for posting this!"

Going to see if I can get an interview with her! Will publish it here and on my blog. I know we're all dying to know what makes a real life Female Mando tick ;)

I was inspired by Jules SW:Apocalypse comic, along with KRI's story and Luke's customs. I contacted them to ask a couple questions as I wanted my Mando to fit in with their story... so, if it's not too late already:

This is my entry...

and a WIP pic to show what I started w/

Head- Yellow Royal guard(online exclusive multipack)
Torso, upper arms & lower legs- Prince of Persia bad guy
Lower arms- Iron Man 2 figure
Stomach/crotch- Wolverine
Upper Legs-Thor guy
Feet, cod piece, belt & holsters- comic pack Mando
Shoulder pads-Narnia figure
Helmet-Clone Wars Senate Commando

Okay, I think I got it all listed. Lil' things I did:

The "mando" armor is sculpted on over the Prince of Persia armor.

Custom blaster(from GI Joe rifle tip) and wires on gauntlet, custom sculpted control pad on other gauntlet.

Backpack is made from Thor weapon, GI Joe rifle scopes cut for thrusters, and screw drilled into center.

Axe has a magnet glued into it, so it sticks to the backpack.

Belts and cod piece cut and resculpted.

Holsters modified with side straps, instead of the cross ones.

Holes drilled through chest so shoulder pads could be connected and pinned, so they can still move.

I think that's it. I know I'm late, so if it's too late, I understand, no problemo, at least I finished, lol.. I think this breaks my record on the amount of figures used on one custom, lol.  I'll work on his bio when I put it in my custom thread. It was a blast seeing everyone's different take on Mandos... now I gotta make some more with all those figures I used for this guy... :D

Nice job to you as well, orange. Welcome to the mando club.
Alright folks, that's all the entries we will be accepting for this contest.
I will put up a voting thread when I get home from work tonight in about 12 hours.
